I love the Carle books, but for whatever reason, my 5 month old daughter hates this one. In general, I recommend his books, just maybe not this one. She sees it and screams! Maybe my daughter just doesn't want to learn colors. Anyway, I usually adore the author.

I came across this book at our local bookstore and fell in love with it. I started using it in my preschool class, and now it's the kids' most favorite book! We start with a color on the top and then go through the pictures down below to find the one that matches asking the same question for each picture, "Is the lemon red? Noooooooo!" We do this until we match the right picture with the right color, and the kids ages 18 months to 3 years eat it right up. They love it!! I was surprised by some of the not-so-favorable reviews of this book...it's a HUGE favorite around my house and in my class!

Eric Carle is known for bright pictures and simple text. Here is a book that will be good for children starting at under a year. Children can develop languages skills talking about the colors and the different items that go with them.
How Do Dinosaurs Count To Ten? :: No Biting! (Lift-The-Flap Book) :: The Secret History of the CIA - Afghanistan and Bin Laden :: I Love Everybody (and Other Atrocious Lies) - True Tales of a Loudmouth Girl :: ELMO'S BIG LIFT-AND-

Pictures are nicely illustrated. Simple and clean. The only complain I have is the letters/words are not big/bold enough. My 2 years old daughter has been learning colors for a few months and she looks at the book and points out the colors. She also enjoys to look at the pictures and asks questions. I like that a lot.

We checked this one out of the library after buying My Very First Book of Numbers. Unfortunately, it's not quite as good. First of all, although black, white, pink, and brown are represented, the color orange is missing - how can you skip one of the secondary colors?! Secondly, at least in the copy we saw, the fire engine is a muddy color somewhere in between red and brown (and definitely does not match the bright red color square). Finally, it would have been nice if the colors had been arranged in the order of the spectrum rather than randomly. This really had potential, but fell short.
