Brett Baier delivers a very reasoned and mature portrait of President Eisenhower. This and several other books read over the years make him in my mind one of the two greatest Predidents of my lifetime. Brett is an excellent writer and I await his next effort.

A book well worth reading. A look at history that was not taught in school but has a very important view of the presidency of Dwight D Eisenhower and the state of the country he was left to govern. He truly was a hero in more than one way. A very good read. Bret Baier did an excellent job of writing this book.

Mr. Bret Baier has written an outstanding book about this important leader (as well as many others) during this very critical time in our history (when isn't a critical time in our history?). While the current times are certainly different and everything does not apply, there are some important parallels to today. Now Mr. Baier, what is your next book going to be about? I can't wait for it!!!

I purchased this as a gift and my husband thought it was a well written, accurate, and interesting book. My husband graduated from West Point and while he was there had the honor to march in the Inaugural parade for Eisenhower so it had special meaning.

Well written and full of interesting details. Not just a look at the transition between Ike and Kennedy, but a good review of Eisenhower's experiences in war and peace that equipped him to become one of our wisest and most capable presidents.

While written from a clear, and acknowledged, pro-Eisenhower bias, this book reminds us that not only was a Dwight Eisenhower the right man for the times in which he served, but the principles that guided him would serve us well today. Well written and engaging, this is a good time to read Three Days in January.

Bret has written a very engaging, entertaining historical novel on one of our American heroes.
Besides the 3 days in January, he covers much of the Eisenhower years as president in a factual manner. I am sure it took an awful lot of research to write about how the President was thinking about different aspects of how the federal government should be handled, and his reasoning for his different actions. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Bret's book!

A good overview of Eisenhower's presidency and his personal style. You'll find this book informative but not bogged down by heavy-policy analysis. If you're going to dig into the era of Eisenhower, this is a good place to start.

THIS IS A GOOD BOOK. NORMALLY I READ DETECTIVE STORIES. THIS BOOK IS A GOOD BREAK. THE BOOK GIVES GREAT INSIGHTS INTO IKE AND A LOT ABOUT HIS SUCCESSOR JFK.
IT WAS ESPECIALLY INTERESTING TO READ IT AT THE TIME WHEN THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION WAS ENDING AND PRES. TRUMP WAS BEING INAUGURATED.
READING ABOUT THE TRANSFER OF POWER BETWEEN IKE AND JFK, AND THE TRANSFER BETWEEN OBAMA AND TRUMP AS IT WAS HAPPENING WAS VERY INTERESTING TO SEE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.
IKE WANTED JFK FULLY UP TO SPEED ON DAY ONE AND WAS VERY WORRIED ABOUT THE COUNTRY.
IT WAS VERY INFORMATIVE ABOUT HOW THE WHITE HOUSE WAS RUN BY BOTH PRESIDENTS.

Well researched look into President Eisenhower's path to the White House, how he ran the White House, and how he transitioned the highest office in the country to a young, inexperienced, idealistic successor. I highly recommend the book.

Fascinating look at our nation in transition. Well written and researched. The attributions alone are worth the price of the book. I have spent lots of time looking at the original documents discussed in the book. Many similarities to the transition going on now.

THREE DAYS IN JANUARY: Dwight Eisenhower’s Final Mission. Bret Baier’s wonderful historical narrative is not only about the inaugurals as the title suggests, but is a well researched history of Eisenhower’s life, his youth, his military career, his family, and yes, his very significant political career. The book also goes into some dept on other key world figures of the time: Kennedy, Khrushchev, Nixon and many others. Ike’s appointment to West Point was almost happenstance, and while there he didn’t exactly set records. Of 164 cadets, he ranked 61st academically and 125th in discipline. His military career was stagnant until WWII. He once told his wife that he would be lucky to make colonel, and of course never dreamed of becoming a 5-star general, leading the largest successful international military force ever assembled and winning two presidential elections by decisive majorities. One of Ike’s more substantive qualities was his ability to inspire and elevate those who worked under his leadership. He believed leadership was not only about inspiring people to do what was asked, but to let them inspire you, as well. Ike is given command of Operation Overlord by President Roosevelt, the plan to take back Europe from Hitler. The day of the invasion, 6 June 1944, 4,500 men would die, thousands more would be wounded. Ike was more than anything else a problem solver. He was the antithesis of the politician who finds glory in the eye of the camera. Ike’s major accomplishments as president were: He ended the Korean War, started the Interstate Highway System, pushed through Civil Rights legislation and produced several balanced budgets.
Bret Baier has made a major contribution to history in this narration of Dwight Eisenhower's life and the transition of power from one president to another. I give Three Days In January a strong 5-star rating. It was a joy to read.

Very complex and thoughtful man embodied with a disarming likeability. It was very clear why the cries were "I Like IKE" back in the day. Very well written about what was arguably one of our nations "Finest Hours" in terms of "oneness" and patriotism within and for our nation. Well Done !

As a lover of current affairs, Bret has written a captivating account of the transition of power to JFK, during a perilous time in our country. So glad to see an authoritative piece on the Eisenhower presidency. As a teacher, I am absorbed by the history that comes alive in this great book. Mr. Baier, if Ike were alive, I think Ike would LIKE. Well done!

Wonderful and skillful account of Pres. Eisenhower. A truly great man and president... he warned the people and we didn't take heed, the military industrial complex is part in parcel the "Shadow Government" Dr. Ron Paul talks about. Bret Baier did a terrific job with the facts.

I bought this for a friend, who remembers his administration very clearly. She said it's definitely worth reading. Goes into a lot of interesting detail and really presents a good picture of who he was.

Bret Baier brings to light the story of the transfer of power between Eisenhower and Kennedy at a time not unlike today. He expertly weaves Ike's farewell address through the story grounding it in the experiences Ike had throughout his life. Five Stars- not unlike Ike's 5 stars!

Love it. Great job Bret. Being quite young, I never realized how much Kennedy depended on Ike for advice. Or, the blunders Kennedy made creating the confirmation with USSR over Cuba.
Ike has never gotten the credit for what a great president he was.

I started this book and figured I would just read a few chapters a night. That wasn't the case. I kept saying, ok, just one more chapter until there were no more chapters left. Amazing written book. Best book I've read this year hands down. A book I could definitely see myself rereading again.

I was a young child when President Eisenhower left office in 1961. I remember him as a good man and respected President. This book details his leadership and wisdom. How I wish we had someone like him in office today.

Great book to lean about President 34. Thought he just presided over good times. Learned how knowledgeable, insightful and smart he was. Didn't know how much Kennedy used his counsel after Bay of Pigs.

An account of the Eisenhower Presidency and his efforts to craft effective transition to the Kennedy Administration. One comes away with a new regard for Ike's wisdom and his place as one of our greatest Americans.
