I absolutely loved this book. It had me cracking up the entire way through. Alex is a baroness in russia, who breeds and trains and sometimes even races her prized stock of horses, much to the dismay of her father. In an effort to control his daughter's wild ways, Constantin makes up a story about a long forgotten betrothal with count Vasilli Petroff, who Alex must wed, and neither parties like what they are being forced into. So they both hatch a plan to get rid of their unwanted betrothal, Alex acting very repulsive, And vasilli acting like a cad. The two become a little bit closer en route to his homeland to Cardinia when a band of thieves steal 3 of alex's most prized horses. Vasilli of course gets them back for her. and you see things kinda start changing for them, as they return to Cardinia. For a short while Alex goes to England to find the young man she fell for at her first season, because she thinks that vasilli didnt love her, and she is carrying his child. things didnt work out and alex finds herself going back to Cardinia with vasilli. both finally admit their love soon afterward

You Belong To Me by Johanna Lindsey was released in 1994. Alexandra and Vasili are betrothed to each other in this fine historical romance. Lots of description and plot. Fans of Johanna Lindsey will like this the most.

The only reason they ended up together was because they were beautiful. And so they lusted after each other. But apart from that - nothing! They pretended to be someone else in order to escape the marriage. When they kissed, they suddenly couldn't think at all. I could understand that an inexperienced woman would find a kiss exciting, but a man of his experience wouldn't even think about it twice. And the fact that they only made love once and she was pregnant is just unbelievable. And in the end she escaped to England and decided to marry someone - anyone - in order to have a father for her child. Stupid. And on the last page, they say 'I love you' to each other and are supposed to live happily ever after. Yeah, right.

Who wouldn't want their own personal Vasili Petroff? Incredibly handsome Vasili never met a woman who can resist him. No wonder he is so arrogant and desperately need to be taken down a peg or two. No better person to take on the job than his out of the blue betrothed Alexandra Rubliov, horse breeder extraordinaire.
At the age of 31, Count Vasili Petroff had no intention to get married anytime soon. Who could blame him when women threw themselves to him all the time? Imagine his shocked anger when he learned that he had been betrothed to his father's longtime friend Baron Rubliov's daughter. Certain that the girl will be glad to have him, Vasili intend to make sure the girl will call off the wedding by showing his contempt full blast to her. Unbeknownst to Vasili, the girl in question Alexandra Rubliov, or Alex as she usually called, had no intention of agreeing marrying him either. Alex had planned to parade her most unladylike behavior to make sure that "the popinjay" will call off their wedding.
It made one hell of an entertaining ride when they traveled from Russia to Cardinia, the country where Vasili lived, trying one after another outrageous deeds to get the other to cry off. Vasili's friend Count Lazar Dimitrieff certainly thought so!
So come, and join this full of laughter read from Lindsey.

One of Johanna Lindsay's finest works of romantic fiction. Alex, the whip-brandishing heroine is one of the most unusual, and delightful romantic leads I've ever had the pleasure to read. The book was certainly unique; featuring fresh ideas and characters not frequently found in historical romance. The setting was unique, too. Lindsay made a wonderful decision to revisit the eastern hemisphere to continue the saga she began with Stefan and Tanya in Once a Princess. You really get more for your $ with this book!

I loved this book! After a few chapters, I slowed my reading to savor the story. It was so good! The way both parties tried their best to get the other to call off their betrothal was priceless. In the end they have their HEA...but just reading all the schemes they pulled on each other had me laughing at times. The price was also a added plus.

Absolutely loved this story, first off I love Historical Romance l also like when it's not to mushy and predictable. Loved Alex and her fiery spirit and independence especially during a time when it wouldn't be appreciated by her peers. Visili was arrogant, but that was to be expected, although he really had a soft side once he fell in love with Alexandra!! All in all great read from Johanna Lindsey. Will definitely be reading more from this author in the future!!

Here is another good story by Johanna Lindsey. This is an amusing story and brightens a dull day. This story is about two people who want the same thing, not to marry each other. The only problem is that they don't know that and they both go out of their way to convince each other to break the betrothal. One cannot help but feel for these two and laugh at their antics. Pick this book up and you won't want to put it down.

I thought that the heroine Alexandra was horrible! She would walk around and WHIP (YES I MEAN W/ A HORSEWHIP)any woman who flirted with Vasili. She was pushy and unloving even at the end. Lindsey, who is usually an extremely good writer, really fumbled with her character... Alexandra is supposedly in love and pining away for some guy for the past 7 years... yea right, it doesnt fit her personality at all. The plot itself wasnt all that great either... i honestly do not think it is a good book and would not reccomend it to anyone. Oh yes, to correct another reviewr Vasili did know that Alexandra was faking the bad manners... Queen Tanya tells him so...but God knows how he could fall in love with her, all he seems to do up to the point in which he professes love is oggle at her [body]...there are very few love scenes and the book itself is not very sensual maybe about 4 out of 10. anyway this book is not horrible but to be blunt it is just really not worth your time.

If you are looking for a wonderfully relaxing escape from the world around you, this is the book for you! Johanna Lindsey has successfully combined witty humour, steamy sensuality, and delightful characters into a book that you will not be able to put down. The verbal battles of the strong willed, and naturally gorgious characters, have made this book a personal favorite. When Visili arrives to escort his betrothed to his homeland, his plan is to convince her to cry off by acting the perfect cad. Little does he know that Alexandra is thinking along the same lines....

The very basics of this book are: they met, they fought, and they fell in love......Ooohh, but the excitement and the adventure, not to mention the trek, in between are worth at least a second reading. I know I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a whipping threat of Alex's if she perceived that I was contemplating something more intimate with her magnificent, blindingly beautiful Petroff, who is steadily learning that his bachelor days are no more. I recommend reading ONCE A PRINCESS first as most of the characters in this book are also it. Enjoy!!!! :}

One of the best Lindseys although it cannot compare with ONCE A PRINCESS which is simply the best Lindsey. The heroine is a free-thinker and independent and she manages to drive the sometimes insufferable Vasili's (the hero) ego a notch or two.

I believe this was one of Lindsey's best... Alex and Vasili constantly fight and fight... But it could have been better... Towards the end it left some doubts about how Vasili felt about Alex, yes he said he loved her, and thathe no longer had any mistresses but for some reason it didn't reasure me. I mean it was great buthe wasn't really convincing when he finally admitted his love. Otherwise I LOVED this book!

I hated this book. I usually like Johanna Lindsey but this was torture. What an annoying, spoilt rotten H/h. How they fell in love is beyond me. The H & h fought the entire book and neither had any redeeming qualities. Both acted completely immature and idiotic to repel each other. The fact that the heroine was trying to go without bathing for half the book just turned me off. Yuck!

This is my favorite Johanna Lindsay book this far. I love that the heroine isn't some simpering little miss, but a strong woman of 25. I love that she doesn't whimper and blush at the hero, like some silly school girl. I've read this book over and over again and I never fail to love it.

Did not like anything about this book. Was thankful it finally ended 122 pages too late. Every great artist is entitled to a failure and this is Lindseys.
I did not like the name of Jesus being used in a profane manner. Out of the hundreds of options so why His name?
