Carolyn Brown does it again. Her dialog and humor are on the money. This story depicts life in a small town when oil was beginning to make history in Texas/Oklahoma. Things were not easy for most people, but they persevered and created a great country. I loved the story and laughed aloud many times. I am a great fan of Ms. Brown. To borrow a modern expression--You Go Girl!!!!

If you like Carolyn Brown you won't be disappointed. I have a soft spot for historical fiction (this one takes place in 1917) and has a good blend of mystery and romantic elements. I don't want to give anything away but it's worth a read.

Well, it is basically a story of romance, and, of course, it is somewhat predictable. That criticism just doesn't make sense. The value is in the journey, not the destination! The journey through the telling of the story was thought-provoking, humorous, and nostalgic. I really like this series set in 1917. Women were just beginning to open their eyes to possibilities. Although I believe their is no higher calling than being a dedicated wife and mother, the heart of the matter is about choices in marriage, motherhood, careers and how one is to choose one or combine them; what an individual woman can accomplish comfortably for herself, not allowing others to define her. Fifty years after this era, women were still dealing with much the same issues. The book touched on those issues with style and grace, not a soapbox. Another good book from Carolyn Brown.

I enjoyed the Morning Glory story very much. The characterizations were terrific. I bet many readers recognize people from their home towns in the characters of this story. It was funny and compelling and of course so nice that it's a story of long held friendships. Always enjoyable to read about friends sticking it out through thick and thin!

Really enjoyed this book. I knew people like this when I was a little girl. This book makes one feel like they just slipped into being in a new family. There is always the one that is offbeat, the one who skirts on the border of the law, and the confirmed bachelor. I loved the dinners at the boarding house. And then there was the romance. Ahhhhh. I am looking forward to the two next books.

Carolyn Brown can be predictable, but her stories are always interesting. Clara's story is fun to read on its own, and sets the stage very well for the stories of Clara's cousins Tilly and Tucker (Sweet Tilly and Evening Star). The time and place (pre-WWII Oklahoma) was very interesting, and matches stories that trickled down from my parents and grandparents, so I found it particularly interesting. I recommend the 3-book series.

Carolyn Brown's stories never disappoint. Her characters come alive on every page. The plot wraps itself around each one, directs them to a common goal, then guides them through the valley of circumstance toward a perfect but realistic conclusion.
Mave Blachly draws well rounded characters. Brown's characters get up on the stage and sing.
