This classic book is perfect for infants through preschool. From about six months old, babies enjoy the cause-and-effect experience of opening the flaps. The bold, simple pictures capture their attention. Toddlers love the repetition of the question and the feeling of success they get from discovering the answer. Preschoolers learn prepositions (in, under, etc.) and can add to the story by acting it out with you. They can also begin to read the simple words on each page, giving them a wonderful feeling of being "grown-up." This book's appeal has not dimmed in the 35 years since it was written.

"Where's Spot" has great, brightly-colored and simple pictures. You can help really young children learn animal sounds, name animals and label items, learn colors, all while help Spot's mommy to find spot.

You could tell that it had been used, but still ok!
I am a former " Reading Recovery " teacher and
we used " Where's Spot? " at the beginning of our
assessment. The kids love opening the doors to see
what is behind each door searching for Spot!

It's a cute book with good illustrations and a fun little story. Opening the little panels seems like it would be fun for a surprise for baby, but the two problems are first, the baby folds and pulls at the flaps so they get bent out of shape or even torn out pretty quick and second, the animals behind the flaps say no a lot, which is a word that upsets our baby because we use it when correcting his behavior, so when he hears it while reading a book, he thinks he's doing something wrong. Still, I like Spot, he's cute.

I purchased this as a gift for a new baby. It is sturdy enough that when the baby starts handling it herself she will not ruin it. The colors are bright and cheerful which will keep baby's attention. delightful.

I bought this 30 years later for my daughter to have as her sister has the family's original copy (with torn flaps from so much use). In my family,Try the basket!,is a mantra. A must have for young kids.

My girls love this book - it's so cute. (If you, as an adult, can get past the fact that there are a lot of scary, wild animals apparently living in this house, LOL.) They love to lift the flaps and see what's there. It's pretty sturdy but after #1 tore off a few of the flaps and I glued them back on I had to give up when #2 tore one off, too. I just bought a new one so we'd have the real flap (a couple I'd replaced with post-card because the flap was lost!) so we like it enough to buy another after our abuse! Great gift, too!

Great book for the young reader. It requires the reader to actively participate in the story. The pictures and the manipulation feature within the book kept the readers involved. The children's pre-reading skills are being enhanced through the use of this book.
