“Sometimes temptation was too great to ignore.”

Um…..

I think my addiction to Nicole Edwards’ books may have reached new heights.

I may need therapy.

Just saying.

Speechless is the third book in Nicole Edwards’ MM series entitled Pier 70. In this series we have been introduced to the men who own and operate Pier 70 Marina – Cam Strickland (featured in book one), Roan Gregory, Dare Davis (featured in book two), and Teague Carter. I always fall wholeheartedly in love with anything Ms. Edwards writes and if you know anything about her books you know that she tends to write about copious amounts of sexual variations (MF/MFM/MM, etc.) and you also know that her books are HOT AS F*** as we watch each of the characters Ms. Edwards creates succumb to passion and love. I am certainly a huge fan and love the fact that this is her first entirely MM series! I love getting wrapped up in a sexy romance with enough emotional turmoil to fulfill any angst lover. This book definitely fit the bill as we watch two antagonistic co-workers forge a path on the rocky road of lust and love.

Twenty-five year old Teague Carter is the youngest owner of Pier 70 Marina. He does not have an idyllic past and spent most of his young life in and out of foster care. He knows all too well how being rejected can lead to feelings of desperation and sadness. Teague began working at Pier 70 when Cam Strickland gave him a chance when he was sixteen years old. Teague proved himself and was then given the opportunity to own a stake in the business at the age of twenty-one. While Teague certainly has his act together professionally, he is a mess when it comes to his emotions and personal life. He’s tense and explosive at times and refuses to get close to anyone.

Thirty-five year old Hudson Ballard is the mechanic for Pier 70. He has also known his fair share of loss and rejection, especially given the fact that he is mute. Hudson and Teague have worked together for quite some time. Their relationship is hostile and tense, more so on Teague’s part. There is just something about Hudson that pushes all his buttons and that leaves Teague on edge. Hudson has always been attracted to the sexy younger man but has kept his distance. Until now. If Teague wants to use sex as a means of escape, Hudson is going to be the one to take him along on that lust-filled ride.

When Teague takes Hudson up on his offer of sex with no strings, neither one is prepare for what begins to develop between them. It does not take long for their relationship to envelope both men into this complex whirlwind of emotions. So begins a complicated game of push and pull as they spend time with each other in and out of bed. However, is Teague ready for someone like Hudson to take up so much room in his life and in his heart? Hudson blows into Teague’s world and wants nothing more than to be the calm, soothing balm that the Teague so desperately needs. When everything comes to a head, will both men come out on the other side unscathed or will the promise of forever be ripped away from them before they even have a chance to truly get started?

Teague and Hudson certainly have a few obstacles to overcome. Both are carrying some emotional baggage from their past and then there is the fact that Teague is hesitant to get in too deep with Hudson. Both men certainly realize there is a lot at risk. It takes more that lust and physical attraction to build a lasting relationship especially when there are so many issues that require attention. But, the heart wants what it wants and as our two protagonists get pulled in deeper and deeper, they discover that taking a risk may be the best thing they ever do.

This story is a sweet and emotional one. It is also a complex one as Ms. Edwards tackles some very real and harsh issues. It was not an easy road that Teague and Hudson eventually embark on when it comes to being; however, they both realize that the connection between them was something neither one of them could walk away from. And, really this should go without saying considering who the author is but there was no shortage of some down and dirty sexy times. Hudson’s dominant edge was extremely sexy. It made things interesting and HAWT, HAWT, HAWT!!!!! Seriously, read this one with caution. As a matter of fact, read any book by this author with caution. Or, at least have a fan handy. ;)

All in all, Speechless is a wonderful addition to this series that I am now absolutely hooked on. I loved getting a glimpse into the lives of the other characters featured in this series. We also get some other POVs in this one and I loved that! I can’t wait for more!

Some people get lost in the silence, succumbing to the darkness, unable to fight a past that has left them broken and scarred. Other people, though, thrive in the quiet; they see it as a way to truly listen to their heart and understand their own needs without the constant chatter.

Teague Carter definitely suffers in silence, not allowing anyone in to see how truly damaged he is by his mother’s death and his mistreatment in the foster care system. But even if no one can understand his suffering, the way that he handles things…the anger…the impulsivity…the defiant attitude speaks volumes about what Teague still experiences at the hands of his past and unless he can learn to not allow his emotions to get the better of him, he will never comes to terms with anything and be left deal with the pain alone.

Hudson Ballard is a dominant man who has also had a traumatic past. Because he does not have the ability to speak, he’s forced to let his actions speak for him, and even though he tries to fight his attraction and desire for Teague, Hudson offers Teague his body to use in order to quiet the voices in Teague’s head and channel his chaotic feelings in a way that allows him to release his fears, his frustrations, and his depressive thoughts in a constructive way.

Both men are stubborn and willful, so they refuse to fully give into one another, keeping it all about sex and release. But as their bodies communicate, it’s clear that Teague and Hudson are more than just sexual partners, but to get them to confront their unspoken feelings is impossible, especially for Teague because he doesn’t want to like, desire, or need Hudson, and it only ticks him off more when he realizes that his feelings run deep because Teague knows in his heart that Hudson will be just like everyone else and abandon him, leaving him once again alone and in unbearable silence.

There are a lot of heavy issues confronted in Speechless, so, at times, it’s an overwhelming read, but Nicole Edwards does a great job in illustrating the necessity for those concerns to be addressed, making the journey both painful and beautiful at the same time. Teague and Hudson are complex men who deal with their respective pasts in much different ways, but both men are fighters as well as survivors, which is a good thing because Hudson refuses to give up on Teague regardless of the walls Teague throws up. Teague needs someone to finally stand by him and help him to heal and grow, and Hudson is the man to do it because not only does he have similar experiences, but he’s willing to risk everything to show Teague how good they are together.

Speechless is a heartwarming as well as heartbreaking read that will likely put readers through the gamut of emotions. Because Teague and Hudson start out as sexual partners and nothing else, it’s interesting to witness how their no strings sex evolves and as their interactions become more intimate, it allows readers to recognize how much Teague and Hudson’s bond can heal them as long as Teague doesn’t destroy it by lashing out, refusing to admit how he truly feels for the dominant man who wants to own him in every sense of the word.

I absolutely adore Nicole Edwards’ Pier 70 series. Cam, Dare, Roan, and Teague have each other’s backs and face difficulties together. The easy banter and camaraderie that exists between this group of men is illustrated in each book, which makes each story line richer and more complex because readers get perspectives from all sides, allowing further insight when needed. At the end of Speechless, there’s two potential relationships to be explored, and I’m eager to see what Nicole Edwards is working on for Roan and Milly.

OMG, I love Hudson!
Both Hudson and Teague were characters that I needed to get a handle on. They had a fizzling passion that was ready to burst to life but I knew that taking the step from what they had lurking under the surface to a relationship was going to be an interesting read.
Teague was a livewire, although he was someone that has kept his past to himself. He had an amazing family that have always supported him but with Hudson on the scene he had a decision to make that was far from easy.
Hudson refused to allow his disability to define him, he might have been born mute but that didn’t mean that he would allow life to pass him by. In fact, he has kicked a** and continues to do so but other than his brother AJ, he has no-one to share what he has with, until the fabulous Teague piqued his interest. But will Teague be interested in what Hudson has to offer him?
I don’t believe that there is such a thing as no strings, logic goes right out the window when it is entwined with emotions, so I was intrigued to see where the two of them were headed.
The angst was well placed and beautifully conveyed in the story, the emotional conflict of opening your heart to the possibility of being hurt was hard for Teague to evaluate, he had been down that road before and despite the fact that Hudson had managed to get under his skin, he was in two minds as to what and how he was supposed to feel about it all.
I don’t want to dig too deep into the actual storyline because this pair are best experienced first-hand, the questions that surface for both of them because made me take a hard look at what they were going through and I thought it made their whole situation more poignant. They suffered for their love.
I liked the way the author played with the age difference between the two characters but I did think that had I been Teague, I might have had something to say about Hudson’s constant need to refer to him as a “kid”.
But I commend Ms Edwards again for a thoroughly entertaining and engaging read and as a predominantly MF reader, I hold my hands up and submit to the fact that this is a series that I cannot wait to get the next instalment of.

Hudson and Teague have had an unspoken attraction to one another for some time. Although they are extremely different, there is an undeniable attraction that neither of them can deny. Thinking it is purely physical, Hudson makes Teague an offer that he would be crazy to refuse. The sooner he works the kid out of his system, the sooner he can move on. Teague is all about having fun. Even though he cannot deny that he is physically attracted to the brooding and quiet boat engineer, that is all it is for him. As soon as he gets his fill of him, he can move on and go back to what he does best, having fun and living life. Or will it really be that simple?

My heart absolutely broke for Teague. He was so confused and damaged, but was determined that he was fine and refused to let anyone care for him. The dialect between he and Hudson, was almost like scolding a child in some scenes. I wanted to literally grab and coddle him in one scene, while wanting to bend him over my knee and spank the living daylights out of him in another (mind out of the gutter ladies). When I was reading about him, I kept thinking of how I would handle someone so fragile and delicate, yet so strong and determined. It was very endearing and pretty intense at times, especially in the second half of the book.

I have definitely missed the boys from Pier 70 and anticipated Teague and Hudson’s from the very first book. While this is certainly 100% hot as sin M/M, Teague and Hudson’s story had a lot of unexpected emotional profundity that I did not anticipate. The two men could not have been more opposite than they tried, but they were also unknowingly very similar and it was pretty intense seeing their relationship develop throughout the story. Hudson was certainly the more dominant of the two, almost too dominant at times, but the love and compassion that he felt for Teague was truly staggering and melted your heart. Speechless is a definite must read. Plenty of hotness, but you will definitely want to keep the tissues within reaching distance just in case.

An obvious attraction--a surprising turn

This story was steamy, sweet, and saddening; but it was an excellent combination of the three.

Fans of this series know Hudson and Teague have been skating around their attraction to each other for some time. We all knew it would come to a head at some point; we just weren't sure how (at least I wasn't). I thought the author did a great job in the way she sparked their "relationship" initially. Bringing two seemingly reluctant characters such as Hudson and Teague together in a believable way can be quite difficult, in my opinion. I was glad to see Ms. Edwards accomplish that without making me roll my eyes (which unfortunately does happen with some stories).

I was surprised by how alpha Hudson was. And by how submissive Teague was. I liked that these qualities in them weren't completely given away in the previous books. I also liked how these qualities surprised the characters themselves.

The sexy factor of this book was like WOAH, and the conflict factor was like OH, MY. It was a great combination that led to an intriguing, feels-igniting read. While this book has deeper, darker moments than some of this author's previous books, I think it fit the story well and held the diversity of the relationships within this series. No one wants to read the same story over and over within the same series. Ms. Edwards is doing a great job at accomplishing that.

If you follow my reviews, you will see I have a penchant for this author's books. I've been reading her stories for a while, and I've loved watching her grow as an author and story-builder. With this book, she continues to show her plotting abilities and story delivery skills.

Though M/M romances aren't my primary reads, this author has me hooked to this series. I cannot wait for more!

**I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.**

I've been excitedly waiting for Speechless as I really wanted to hear Hudson and Teague's story. I was already intrigued by their characters in the first two Pier 70 books, and I can happily say that Speechless was worth the wait!

One of the things I love most about this series is how fantastic the characters are. They have amazing depth, and as I keep reading I become more and more invested in each and every one of them. Oh, especially Hudson. He piqued my interest right away with his singularly distinguishing characteristic--Hudson is mute (though he can hear just fine), which gives a lot of room to work with his character. We get to hear a lot of his thoughts and how he works through them, and the more I read the more I cared for his character.

Now Teague is a bit of a wild one, and Hudson really is the perfect match to him to tame his wild ways. Teague really does have some growing up to do, and we get to see that here in Speechless. The heat between the two of them is enough to light the pages on fire, and those naughty scenes will have you cranking your a/c's on high.

There's plenty of seriousness in this story-and there are points that can be triggers for some readers regarding depression and suicide. I do have to say, I never saw these things coming-which I suppose might be a point being made here as well (either that or maybe I'm just that oblivious)-and as events unfolded I was almost blindsided and full of worry. Edwards adeptly handles these subjects with tact and care, and will have you embracing the characters even more by the time the story is done.

I loved this book, and it is another 5-star read for me. I can't recommend this series enough, and now three stories in I don't think I could pick a favorite. I highly recommend this for M/M romance fans 18+ for adult language and explicit M/M sexual content. And I need more--as in give me Roan, ASAP!

Speechless is the third book in the Pier 70 series by (my favorite author ever) Nicole Edwards) and is the one that I, my blog partner Amanda and im sure many, many others have been anticipating the most.
It is the story of Teague Carter, who is the youngest and perhaps – most fragile – of the Pier 70 owners. Teague grew up in the foster care system and has all kinds of issues related to that, including rejection and abandonment. Hudson works for Pier 70 as a mechanic. He is a few years older than Teague (14 years) and has had his eye on him for quite some time. They have one significant communication barrier throughout the story – Hudson is completely mute and Teague cannot sign. It is frustrating on one hand and makes for some interestingly sexy improv on the other. ;)
This story encountered and handled some pretty serious subject matters. Foster care, being mute, communication issues with a partner.. all with a lot of dignity. These are not light, easy things to cover. Throw them in to a book with this much steam and I would think that would be very difficult to make ‘sexy’. Ohhh… how wrong I would be.
Speechless was just about the pinnacle of sexy.
I swear to you Nicole Edwards could write a Thai restaurant menu and make it “change your panties” sexy. Speechless was no exception to that. What did it for me? Hudson. Never uttering a sound. I wont give up any spoilers, but I will say that he is one of the sexiest characters she has written to date, IMO. And I have read every one of her books. Yes, all of them.
Speechless was amazing. Truly 5***** WickedGoodStars amazing! Go one click it now and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed!

Fighting attraction, fighting instincts, fighting emotions that are out of control. Teague has an inner battle that is triggered most when one person is around, Hudson. Sexy, silent and brooding Hudson, Teague can't get the image of them together out of his mind. A dream he can't shake. A dream that makes him hate him even more. Wanting and begging to get a rise out of him and knowing that he can't makes it even more frustrating.
Knowing that his attraction to Teague is something he can't act on is weighing heavier on Hudson. Knowing that he is at the end of that tight control he has over his emotions when it comes to the man, has him seeing cross eyed.
Emotions run wild, pacts are made and complications arise, but what we get the most out of these two is a steamy and smoldering read that will have you begging for more.
I love how strong Hudson is, his inability to be heard doesn't stop him from expressing his feelings to Teague in other ways. The problem is in Teague hearing him or accepting what he has to say to him.
Learning to love and be loved is a lesson Hudson is teaching Teague, enjoying and praying the lessons are learned.
Nicole Edwards, the queen of heat, giving us the men at Pier 70 and their hearts to each other.
Hudson and Teague learn to love each other learning to overcome more than just speech making them stronger.

Hudson and Teague have been dancing around each other from the beginning of the series. And it’s more of an angry dance because neither wants to want the other, not at all. Though protesting too much speaks different, doesn’t it? Teague’s upbringing set him off on the wrong foot growing up, and it certainly doesn’t help that Hudson, mute and 10 years his senior, seems to push all of his buttons. The language barrier creates a huge hurdle between the two but it’s really Teague and his past sufferings that alter the dynamic of the relationship.

I wasn’t expecting the intense emotional aspect to their story. I wasn’t expecting for the pain and suffering to leap off of the pages. But it makes sense because both have suffered painful endeavors in life, that really limited the growth they were allowed. There aren’t a lot of novels that feature a mute hero and I found it to be incredibly trying because I wanted to fix it. I wanted to reach in and allow Hudson the opportunity to tell Teague what Teague needed to hear. It ratcheted up the other senses, even to me, being able to read how the two expressed things without words, and it made it more special. I enjoyed their journey and how it blossomed. Through the bumps and hurdles, I connected and traveled with them. It was beautiful.

I purchased this book through the authors website and, fyi, it comes personally signed''! This was an extremely riveting, emotional, sexually explicit & hit novel. The understanding between main characters is hard won due to difficulty in multiple forms of communication and fear of emotional & physical closeness. Through painful awareness & near fatal outcome their HEA is realized. Facts for support & knowledge of depression is dealt in an informative, sensitive, supportive manner albeit painful yet necessary awareness. Knowing 1 family member & my bff sister in high school who committed suicide & 1 family member who attempted, this insidious disease needs to be recognized & supported.

I absolutely loved this story. It touches on a very serious topic. Depression. I could relate because I too suffer from it.
Teague was left an orphan at the age of three because his mother committed suicide. He has ups and downs and violent outbursts. Hudson was born mute and lives across the hall from Teague. They both work at Pier 70 and have been circling each other for a while until they finally come to an agreement .. sex with no strings.
Smoking hot story. Will bring you to tears though.

I was capitivated from the very first time I was introduced to Teague and Hudson. They found their way towards each other and overcame Hudson's inability to speak. It was amazing how you can overcome any obstacle when you fall in love. Teague's life changed when he became part owner in Pier 70 but was unable to connect with those who love him the most. This story kept me on the edge of my seat as I was impatient to read what happened next. I laughed...cried...and cheered on Teague and Hudson every step of the way.

Loved Teague and Hudson's story. You definitely knew in the last book during the cruise that it was gonna get sexy with these two. They had been skirting around each other to long. Hudson was such a great guy he only wanted to help Teague. Teague just wanted to go through life with quick hook ups, no emotions involved at all. Hudson changed all that for him. Waiting for the next book Roan's should be just as hot as the others.

Amazing story. It was hard to understand Teague at first but as the sorry progresses, understanding that it's more than an immature kid who has anger issues. Hudson is the hero, we all need a Hudson in our lives. The story is full of ups and downs, and approaches the subject of depression as an illness. Hudson hangs in their with Teague, and almost loses him. Great story.

SPEECHLESS - HUDSON & TEAGUE
PIER 70 - BOOK 3
NICOLE EDWARDS

This review is a BLEND of the review for this book, (duh, of course) and Another Review that I’ve Already Posted for this story’s holiday follow-up “To Give and To Receive.”
“To Give and To Receive” is the Third Book down in the table of contents in Nicole Edwards’ Christmas Anthology, “Naughty Holidays 2016.”
That story is (obviously) a Christmas Story written for this SAME COUPLE — HUDSON and TEAGUE — and takes place immediately after this story “SPEECHLESS.”
Although these are two different books, to me they can basically be read as one story. You can go from the end of “Speechless,” where they first come together during the hot summer months, straight into “To Give and To Receive,” where they enjoy their first Christmas together, and not feel as if you missed anything in between because they blend so smoothly into each other.
However, if you do read this book, which first delves into their astonishing lives, and learn what makes each of them who and what they are, you’ll definitely want to complete their journey by reading the beautifully heartwarming, and touching, Christmas sequel. It’ll complete your heart, as well as their story!
I’m not a writer.
And, this is not necessarily a story synopsis.
It’s more about trying to explain how much this story affected me.
And why.
Plus, it’s also, about how much I appreciate the unique and unusual talent of the author Nicole Edwards.
I truly have no way of adequately conveying to you the ways in which this story — with the intensity of the emotions expressed in it — affected me.
Emotionally. Physically. Mentally.
It made me cry.
It made my heart go crazy.
It made me smile.
It made me truly Feel.
I felt it, very deeply, when Hudson first realized that he knew that it was he that was the one who needed to rescue Teague — from TEAGUE HIMSELF.
I cried all through the horribly real, and gut-wrenchingly physical, lake rescue.
I let loose a breath of relief, and rejoiced at their final acceptance of each other and thus, their way of blending of theirselves as one.
It’s probably safe to say I was one big ball of stirring emotions all through this story.
Not because it was sad. Or tragic. Or distressing. Or mournful.
NO.
It was because it was Beautiful.
Beautifully Written.
Beautifully Conveyed.
Beautifully Heartwarming.
Beautifully Soulful.
I think I would be correct in saying that this book, along with their follow-up Christmas story, are stories that truly came Straight From Nicole Edwards’ Heart.
And, as such, I would like to sincerely thank Nicole Edwards, for her spectacularly heartfelt insight.
Also, for showing me what the “Purity-of-the-Beauty-of-Life,” truly is.

This is, coincidentally, Also the Third Book (just as it was in “Naughty Holidays 2016”) of a five book series called “PIER 70.” Which is about a close group of men who own — and/or work at — a marina in Texas. Each of the individual books in this series focuses on a different one of these men and the person who holds their heart most dear. Out of the five books, each based on one couple, four are m/m and one is m/f.
This book is about the most intriguing and literally “tangible” book couple I’ve ever encountered — Hudson and Teague.

These two men are Absolutely Breathtaking.
Positively Phenomenal.
They’re completely open with their thoughts.
Their words.
Their emotions.
With their hearts.
With what’s Really Inside Them.
Their dynamic is unequaled in any story I’ve ever read.
Their Personalities are Bigger Than Life.
They’re Stunningly Genuine.

I have never met men that are more authentically real-to-life, straightforward and so uniquely unlike any other that I have ever encountered in a book, as I have in these two men. And not just in this story but also, in their follow-up Christmas story.
And, believe me, you do Meet these two and it is . . . HEAD.ON!
I reacted so viscerally to these two men! I absolutely just could not believe what I was reading! I was so happily amazed that I’d finally found genuine writing, authentic characters and bona fide, true-to-REAL-LIFE, LIVES that I felt compelled to immediately write a review for each of Hudson and Teague’s stories.
I loved how Nicole Edwards did not hold back, at all, in how they spoke and/or reacted to everyone and everything.
She portrayed honest to gawd, true-to-their-personalities, candid and frank speech, thoughts and reactions.
You can feel, every single bit of this story, deep in your gut, because you know that this is REALITY.
Plain and simple R.E.A.L.I.T.Y.
It was truly amazing to me, how well she was able infuse that “book” reality with such realism and, how she was able to put every yummy morsel of this story, into words that conveyed that genuineness so well - Without Resorting to “Book-Speak.”

The Dynamic Energy, that is Hudson and Teague, is laid bare for all us to deeply Breathe In, and Absorb.
Every single thing is Right-Up-Front. It’s very nearly an “in-your-face” type of right-up-front and it’s right there so you don’t miss being able to soak up every Word, Thought, Feeling, Need, Want, Action . . . everything.
There’s positively no other book couple (not that I’VE read anyway) to compare them to, because Nicole Edwards’ people are Genuinely Real!
You will find no “BOOK” people here.
They could just as easily have been . . .
Me.
You.

There is a BRUTAL HONESTY to HUDSON and TEAGUE.
What you will find is Pure, Unadulterated Life — and Love — in all it’s UNMASKED HONESTY.
If that’s what you’ve been looking for — even if you never realized it — that’s exactly what you’re going to get here . . .
UNMASKED HONESTY.

If the story itself doesn’t appeal to you, (unimaginable, but we are all entirely different people) you should, at the least, hopefully appreciate it’s unbridled honesty.
It’s no holds barred realistic speech.
The authenticity of their lives.
And their want (and need) to make sure their relationship progressed slowly, in small steps, and not to jump into sex just for the sake of sex.
Hopefully, you would appreciate it’s truthful correlation, and resemblance, to a life that is just as real as yours, or mine, can be.
And, for finding the best stories you can give to yourself in both “Speechless” and it’s follow-up “To Give and To Receive”— I say to you — MERRY CHRISTMAS!

MTULIPK

(PS— What would actually complete their story, even more so, would be a third, short story, for them. A little novella in which they finally realize a family of their very own. Something of which Teague — ESPECIALLY TEAGUE— Never, Absolutely Ever, thought HE WOULD HAVE.
Please, Ms Edwards? Could we please, have a baby, or two? {YES, TWINS?!?}
Oh, pretty please?
One from each of them would be such an enchanting and fascinating, wonderland for them to journey through.
Together.
Forever.
Don’t you think? — )
? OH, WOULDN’T IT BE LOVERLY? ?*
