My daughter likes these Little Kids First Big Books, including this one. I am giving it an extra star to account for her opinion. As the adult reading the book, I like the photos, but I don't like the disjointed text. It's hard to know what to read when.

We love all of our National Geographic Kids books. Rich, colorful pictures and age-appropriate language. These books, as well as the smaller Nat geo readers, are a must-have for curious kiddos craving to know more about our world and how it works!

Such a cute little, educational book. I bought this to help my daughter start learning the different countries and continents and it has extra little information in there as an added bonus. She loves looking at the pictures and going over the different countries and which continents they are on. I looked at a lot of different children's "Atlas's/ map" books and this was the best with exactly what I wanted.

We all love the National Geographic First Big Books in our house, but this one fell a little short. It presented a lot of concepts that were above the comprehension level these books are usually aimed for. It was also a lackluster read for the adults who usually enjoy learning the interesting facts right along with the kids. This one was a miss for us, but definitely check out the others!

Bought this book for a 6 year old. She absolutely loved it. It always shows two maps for each continent and then has stories about that continent. Gave her a great idea of what's on this planet of ours.

My five year old's other favorite book. The pictures are well placed throughout the entire book. There is so much to learn out there about different countries and cultures... I actually started reading this book on my own without my kid.

this was a gift for our grandson to complement the globe we gave him for christmas. he asks his parents to read through the whole book over and over as a bedtime story (strange kid, but we still love him). whenever he watches tv or hears of a country, he would look it up on the globe and goes thru the book and talk about the animals or whatever is interesting in that country. very inspirational book for the 6yr old.

My son who is currently in kintergarden. He is fascinated with this book and a few other "First" books from National Geographic. He can read everything in this book on his own and understand them. This has increased his curiosity with the world around us and expanded his knowledge.

I thought it choppy, leaping from one place to another. I had expected fewer facts all crammed onto one page and more of a narrative, focusing on typical children and their lives in their various native cultural milieu Most children relate better to other children than to isolated facts that are dissimilar and more isolated from their real lives to be easily remembered or, actually, of much interest. Of course, the "rule" about "most" children is. like any rule, presented with exceptions.
I think a "little kids' first book" about the world should be less of an encyclopedia and more of a group of tales that will leave children with impressions, a sense of places and cultures, stories to remember and relive. Hearing or reading the stories again will be like entering familiar places and relating to them.

As with all National Geographic books, the photos were excellent. Each chapter in the book covers one continent, covering topics about land, weather, people, animal and sights. The book is easy to navigate, and is great for independent reading. The information provided is basic, so it is great for young kids, since they would not be overloaded with too much details. My 5 year old son is fascinated by the book, and will ask further questions related to the countries.

A beginner's atlas and introduction to countries, cultures, and biomes of the world.

This does a fantastic job of introducing the main parts of atlases and providing curious kids a tour of the Earth. Love the photographs, and the information presented was just enough - not overwhelming but still a sufficient introduction to each of the continents and features found there. Definitely recommended to use when first introducing maps and atlases to kids and/or when studying different places.
