Those who are fans of Debbie Macomber know what to expect with these series - very light, sweet stories with memorable characters.
In Lonesome Cowboy, Savannah lives with her brother Grady on their ranch. Grady had to work extra hard to keep the ranch together after the death of their parents, as a result he is often short tempered an grouchy. Savannah is a wonderful person, sometimes a little too-good-to-be-true, especially when it comes to her brother Richard (the never-do-well of the family).
Savannah is in her thirties and has resigned herself to never getting married - she hasn't even had a date in years! When she meets a stranded cowboy on the road and offers to give him a lift, and then one thing leads to another - can true love be so quick, and so easy?
What Debbie Macomber does best is create realistic characters - some good, some not so good, and some - it's up to the reader to guess? In this book she is true to her craft, and the characters I met in this book are definitely ones I want to meet again - in the rest of the series.
Sweet, light reading.

Actually my wife made this purchase. She has read it and enjoyed it very much. I asked her if she would recomend it to others and her responce was positive. She has a varied interest in books and reads them based on critics reports. She also leans toward books written by Debbie Macomber. Macomber is a prefered author.

Debbie Macomber's done it again. She made summer a little more enjoyable with a series. The first is Lonesome Cowboy. She provides excellent tension between hero and heroine with a interesting complications from her two brothers. I had a difficult time trying to choose which one needed smacked on the head first. As another rose fanatic, I loved her correct details on historical roses. I can hardly wait to read the next one, TEXAS TWO STEP.

Ms Macomber weaves a wonderful tale of a family staying together after the death of their parents and a betrayal of their brother. Laredo wanders in causing Grady to be come over protective of his sister Savannah. As things are progressing their brother Richard comes wandering back. Will pride keep them apart? Will everyone see Richard for who he is?

Enjoyed reading about Savannah and her brothers. Her and Grady running the family ranch and her brother Richard leaving after their parents death along with the money from the bank. Then Savannah brings home a cowboy she picked up when his truck broke down. Great reading.

(This review contains spoilers.) I enjoyed the story of Savannah and Laredo falling in love. It was fairly realistic, even though the relationship developed much more quickly than it would have in real life. The time period seemed too compressed. For example, after Savannah and Laredo break up temporarily, Savannah starts winning awards for her roses, traveling and giving lectures -- but all this business success was supposed to happen over a six-week period. Not realistic. However, the story was very well-written.
What bothered me were the loose ends. The book started out with ominous hints about the ghost town, Bitter End, indicating that there was some terrible supernatural secret about the town. But this subplot fizzled out and left me disappointed. I never learned what was so threatening about the place that Savannah's brother Grady forbade her to go there, especially not alone. Near the end of the book, Savannah makes another solitary trip to Bitter End, walks around the deserted buildings and sees a rocking chair that hadn't been there before. Aha! I thought the mystery was about to be revealed, that some ghost or live person hiding in the town would make an appearance. Nope. All that happened was that Savannah sat there contemplating her life and gaining a feeling of peace.
There was no resolution to the subplot of the deadbeat brother, Richard, who had stolen the inheritance of Grady and Savannah and then disappeared for a few years. Richard turned up at the ranch and started borrowing money and sponging off his siblings again. He also kicked the elderly sick dog and made crude advances to a woman in town. This subplot sounded promising, as I anticipated that Richard would either get his comeuppance or straighten up and do right, but the subplot went nowhere. There was never even a resolution about the severance pay check Richard kept saying would arrive in the mail. So was he lying about that check, or not? Nothing happened. Grady and Savannah just let him stay at the ranch and they kept loaning him money. It left me wondering why the character of Richard was even used in the story.
