The Consequence Series by Rachel Van Dyken has been an interesting ride. The characters in each book are unique in their own way. I loved Milo and Colt's story in the first book and have read all the books in the series.

Jason is Milo's brother and Colt's best friend. He has honestly had the worst luck in this entire series. He seems to have a black cloud that follows him around and if something bad is going to happen, it will happen to him.

Maddy Summers is Jason's high school sweetheart that walked out the door on him the day after he asked her to marry him. He never knew why or what happened but when she shows up back in town after 10 years, you can bet it is going to get interesting really fast.

Throughout all of these books, there is a lot of comedy and while I enjoy it, at times it is a bit over the top for me. I love Max's character, but sometimes he exhausts me and I am just reading about his plots, plans and antics. As always, if you love Rom-Com and hilarity and chaos, this book is the ticket. I am super happy with how it all worked out for Jason and I really enjoyed the journey to get there.

This is the fourth book in the Consequence series. You can read this as a stand alone. But, you will be missing out on three other hilarious reads. Plus you would miss all the other “Maxisms” and all the shenanigans! Trust me, you don’t want to miss those.

This si a great second chance with the one that ran away.

I’ve loved Jason from the start. He wasn’t the brightest in the first book with the whole Jayne situation. I really felt for him because of the trickery that witch pulled. Plus all his injuries.

Thank God for Max! *looks around for lighting to strike* (It does, so be very careful). Okay, I’m good.

You gotta love Max’s meddling ways.

You will get a ton of laughs out of this series.

Maddy is great too. Even if she did run. I understand her reasons. They were young and didn’t have a plan.

Is it bad that I want a copy of “Max Emory’s Guide to Dating and Other Important Life Lessons”?

I want to see the chart! You’ll understand when you read this!

I love this series!

The Consequence of Rejection is a book that I would read again for the laughs alone. I absolutely loved the humor in this book! Even while I laughed, I wished for Jason and Maddy to get themselves together enough to mend their broken hearts.

Jason…he’s not my usual kind of guy. He’s not an alpha. However, he is that one sweet one that I wish I had. How many of us are lucky enough to find a guy in high school that wants us forever? Then for him to give us a second chance when we screw it all up? Wowza. I really liked Jason.

Maddy…suffice it to say that most of us have been in her shoes at one point in our lives when it comes to love. Admittedly, I didn’t really like her at first because of her actions, then I remembered how young she was. After getting to know her better, I liked her well enough.

The Consequence of Rejection is a book that will have you hoping for HEA, enjoying the hotness, and laughing until you need the restroom. Jason’s best friend, Max, is such a character! The whole gang is hilarious and I’m glad I read it.

Okay, this book needs to come with a warning. Stay away from all liquid beverages while reading, because they’re going to come out of your mouth, and possibly your nose at the same time. This book was hilarious! Have I been living under a rock?! This is a complete stand alone-and the first book I’ve read by this author, but I’m completely in love with her writing.
This is the hilarious story that belongs to Jason and Maddy, and is probably one of the best second chance love stories I’ve read in a while. We had a girl that wanted to get out of her small town, and a boy so in love, it was a mixture for disaster in the beginning. When Maddy is back in her old town, and reunited with Jason, memories and emotions come crashing together. I’m in love with all of the characters, even every supporting character. Jason and his group of friends are just so real, and hilarious that I want them to be on a constant TV show I can watch all the time. Loved loved loved this book and will be one clicking the rest of the authors books! - By Victoria

The Consequence of Rejection is a stand-alone romantic comedy involving characters that first appeared in the Consequence of Loving Colton
A second chance romance that will make you laugh, cry, throw things and laugh some more.
Jason Caro has had some bad luck lately. Ten years ago, his first love left him after proposing marriage. He was finally able to move on when he discovered his fiancé lied about being pregnant. Luckily, his friends saved him from walking down the aisle. The last single person in the group, Jason wants to find his happily ever after.
Maddy Summers left the only the only man she’s ever loved. Circumstances forced her back to the small town ran away from.
Will Jason and Maddy move past their anger to rekindle their love or will Max’s shenanigans prevent it?
Rachel Dyken‘s characters are both relatable and endearing. Yes, I wanted smack some sense into Jason and strangle Max for his antics in this book but I was laughing so much I just couldn’t do it.
What I like best about RVD’s writing style is that it’s not overly detailed and there is no internal character dialogue.

Poor Jason, I could have cried for Jason.
The woman he loved and wanted to start a family with rejected him after his proposal and left town with his best friend.

10 years later they meet up when she returns to town, I have to say I did not like her actions towards Jason. She acted like he did something wrong and not herself. You do find out why she did what she did and it’s understandable but still hurt him nonetheless.

His friends are a hilarious great bunch of guys, it did annoy me they try to get him back to Maddy because I felt with what she did to him she didn’t deserve him but I felt it was done out of love. They wanted to help him find closure and move on.

I now have to go and read the other boy's stories especially Max because it was adorable.

Jason's story is finally here in The Consequence of Rejection! I still think Colton and Milo's story is one of my all time favorites, so this series has a special place in my heart. You finally get Jason's story in all its messed up, bad luck, old lady kissing drama.

Max is still Max and generally out to continue to ruin Jason's life. But, his first love, Maddy, has returned to town to make him miserable as well. She left Jason with hardly a goodbye and he has been a hot mess of bad luck ever since. So, if you like second chance romance, over the top best friends, and some seriously zany hijinks, Rejection might be the perfect book for a weekend rom-com binge! These characters are hilarious! While sometimes it felt like "Max part 2" because he is such a dominate force, I enjoyed the story and loved finally getting to see Jason get an HEA!

This is one of my favorite romcom series out there. I adore these characters and I have never laughed so hard as I do at these stories. So as you have probably guessed, I have been dying for this book!

Rachel definitely did not disappoint. Poor Jason. That seems to be the running theme most of the time and what I find myself saying about his character. I liked getting a book for him and getting to see his story play out. There were definitely some major hijinks and laughs and you get to see your favorite characters cause problems all back together again which I loved. There were also some sweet and some emotional parts that were just as well done as the laughs.

I love this series and I don't want to see it end. I absolutely hope we get to read more from these characters and I can't wait to see what Rachel brings us next.

Rachel Van Dyken's Consequence series makes me pee myself. I can't even deal. Along with the other books, TCoR is over-the-top dramatic, hilariously awesome, and she nails rom-com every time!
But second chance romance stories often come with past hurt, and boy was there a lot of it in this one. And I'm siding with Jason and wholeheartedly validate his anger, and I get that he's a grown man now and it's been ten years, but when I first dove in to this book I just wanted to yell at everyone to LEAVE THE DAMN MAN ALONE!!! Ok, rant over. I'm good. *exhales*
There's always a journey to recovery with broken hearts, and Jason and Maddy's, with the help and crazy antics of the crew, was hard and heavy, fun (so much fun!), and riddled me with anxiety at times.
I worry about RVD's brain sometimes, but I love her for it so much!

Consequence of Rejection (Consequence #4) by Rachel Van Dyken.

4.5 Stars

I really wished I had read the previous books in this series. Starting with the latest release left me feeling I was missing out. Please don’t misunderstand me because I enjoyed this book very much. In fact, I plan to go back and read the books I missed out on. While this can be read as a standalone, I personally felt that I would have loved this book instead of just liking it had I read the others first. The secondary characters, who all had their stories told in the previous titles, were so much fun. I couldn’t stop laughing. There was a strong camaraderie and dynamic between them which is why I felt a little like the third wheel.

Ok, so in typical RVD style, her romantic comedies are some of my favorites. I have read many of her books; needless to say I am a huge fan. I will always come back for more and I am always excited to see what Rachel releases next. If you haven’t read anything by her yet, start with her romcoms.

Jason and Maddy…….
To say that Jason has had some bad luck in his life is the understatement of a lifetime. This man has been through heartbreak, is highly accident prone and an all around magnet for the worst case scenarios. I cringed at the thought of what could possibly happen next; it seemed like nothing was off limits. That said, he was a very strong and very likable character. Sure, it took him some time to get past his hurts, and there were many, but he tried. Actually, Jason just resolved himself to the belief that good things did not happen to him.

Maddy was his high school girlfriend and the love of his life. He loved her so much that he proposed to her at their HS graduation.

Maddy said, “yes.”

Unfortunately, she didn’t mean it. Maddy did love Jason but she felt they were too young to get married. Instead of talking with him, trusting in him, she left. I thought I would hate Maddy for that. And I admit, I was not her biggest fan, but over the course of the book, she grew on me. Did I approve of her choices? That would be a huge “no.” But I did understand them.

Ten years later, Maddy is back in town. Jason doesn’t trust her, doesn’t want to have anything to do with her. Maddy understands that she probably has no chance of winning Jason back. It takes the crazy antics of some of Jason's best friends to help Maddy and Jason find their way back to each other. Manipulation at its funniest! I am not going to spoil any of this for you by giving you details. But if you’ve read the previous books, you know you’re in for a fun ride. I enjoyed this book very much and as I said earlier, I plan to back-read this series. I am looking forward to that!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)

The Consequence of Rejection for Jason was the ten years he lost simply being able to love Maddy. They both were so young and the decisions that they made have held their hearts in limbo for such a long time. This is a sweet, funny story about love and friendships. With so much history between the characters you could feel the bond they all shared. The guys always had each other’s backs and wanted to ensure that they all found their happiness. Max was the crazy ringleader keeping the humor going throughout the story. His ‘Guide to Dating and Other Important Life Lessons’ are perfect, funny and a bit crazy! They knew Jason’s happiness was only going to be found when he a Maddy found their way back to each other. No one ever said love would be easy, but it would be worth it!

A beautiful, heartwarming, and endearing second chance romance of life, love, and happiness. Rachel Van Dyken is back at it again in this fourth installment of The Consequence Series with her heartfelt and smart writing. In this book, we are introduced to Jason Caro who was rejected by the one girl he loved, Maddy Summers leaving him heartbroken and bitter. Fast forward ten years later, they are reunited once again. The feelings they have for each other haven’t dissipated and so what happens when they get their second chance at love? Can these two make it work without making the same mistakes again?

So if you are looking for a sweet, romantic comedy intertwined with the themes of second chance and life’s choices then this book is for you.

I have been waiting for this one forever...at least it seems...Jason...oh poor unlucky Jason is here!

Mayhem, laughs and Max...is well...he’s Max. I adore these characters! I adore the angst and the hilarious laughs I was so happy to be back with them.

These are some of my favorite RVD people! I swear Max drives me batcrap crazy but I love him!

Jason’s story will have you laughing till your side hurts and cringing from his mishaps! But your going to love his story!

Colt, Milo, Max, Reid and Jason are my kind of people! I’m going to miss them and the laughs they gave me! If this is the ending to them I sad to see them go but it’s a perfect conclusion!

Plus if you don’t know them, you can start with this and not be lost but it’s best to read each and every book cause they are all FABULOUS!

Absolutely wonderful! I laughed, I cried... did I say I laughed? These characters are nuts! I love them all and so glad everyone made it into Jason and Maddy’s book.
Maddy left and now ten years later she’s back. She ran, went to college, got on with her life but she never forgot. Never forgot her best friend, her first love and the man she still loved to this day.
She’s back. The girl who left him. He’s never gotten over her and now she’s back.
Okay, so we finally get Jason’s story and it’s fantastic. Of course, Max had me rolling with laughter throughout the whole book, I just couldn’t get enough. I sat down to read a couple of chapters and next thing I know I’m at the end. I just couldn’t put it down. Loved it!

*4.5* LOL funny Max is freaking hilarious - he likes to egg everyone on - loved seeing all of the couples together.

When Jason's ex comes back to town he wants answers on why she did what she did. When they decide to follow Max's idea and go through the memories so they can have closure and move on, they thought that was a good idea. Except that's not exactly what happens.

This book is so funny, I mean laugh out loud, shaking your head kind of funny. Poor Jason has some crazy things happen to him and you can't help but giggle at his predicaments.

There was times I wanted to have a little chat with Maddy and tell her get your head out of your butt but I controlled myself.

I loved Jason's story nothing like saving the best for last!!!!

I felt bad forJason as he tries to find himself and his way back to Gabby. My heart hurt for Gabby as she dealt with her fears and demons all the while trying to not relive her past.

And who can forget about Max he had me laughing so hard I couldn't breath! Max is another Grandma Nadine always medling in others businesses. When the 4 of them are all together you never know what trouble there going to get themselves into.

Another wonderful book about second chance love with some serious shanagins. I loved it and can't wait to see who's story is next and how Max is going to meddle.

Jason Caro....

Be still my beating heart! Finally his story!
And what a story it is!!! I just loved it! His heart, the way accidents seem to follow him.
Max Emory, good god that man is annoying as all get out, talk about popping up at very unfortunate moments, but the whole thing made me laugh out loud alot! He was kind of ridiculous to be quite honest!! But funny all the same!
I just love all the characters in this book, can you swoon when all the men are in one room, then shirtless....sigh and roll my eyes, yep that would be me!
I love how the author wrote this with such humor and outrageous-ness!!!

I love RVD books and enjoyed reading the Consequence of Rejection and meet Jason. I have not read the previous books, and was able to read this story without doing so. But....with the history these characters have, I am more intrigued and need to start back to book one. I feel that it would make the story come together so much more!

Jason and Maddy had a long road to recover from being each other's first love. I did not expect to laugh so much with this book and cry all at once! The broken heart had me tied to the characters. And Max!!! Oh how I love Max and quotes <3. Another great read written by RVD that I had to finish in one reading!

The Consequences of Rejection. This story is the story of Jason Caro, the next chapter of the Consequences Series. Jason is a high school football player. Maddie Summers a cheerleader. They grew up living across the street from each other and became great friends which eventually grew into young love. Jason was so much in love with Maddie that he proposed to her on graduation day in front of the entire school. The story deepens as Maddie does not know what to do so she fled town with Jason's best friend. This story continues 10 years in the future. Jason is now a respectable police officer in town. He had moved on from his one true love. Things get complicated when Maddie returns home and moves in with her parents who still live across the street from Jason. Jason still has anger from what happened in the past, will he overcome this feeling once he sees Maddie again? I love the story of Jason and Maddie. How they meet up and try to rekindle their love, each thinking the other not to be interested as so much time has past. The story includes Max, Reid and Colt and their wives. They all get involved in trying to help Jason get the girl but with Max involved you know there is going to be trouble. The book was an easy read. A little too much of Max for me but it was funny at some points but a little silly in others. I would recommend this book if you like Max and his antics. Well done Rachel.

I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

The fourth book in this series deals with Jason and his longtime crush Maddy. Truthfully I dove in this book, without having the slightest idea what to expect. Angst? Maybe? Instead, I found a hilarious plot, almost crazy side characters and lots of humorous moments. To be honest Jason was a little too slow-minded and silly for my taste, while Max was the craziest character I've ever encountered!

This book is light and a fast read and while it can be read as a stand-alone I do recommend reading the other books too. At least that's what I did.

This is probably one of my favorites rom com series. I’ve been waiting to Jason to have his own HEA since the end of book one.

Let’s start with what I loved about it. Jason and his accident prone ways. Odd maybe, but I love it. He’s a little clumsy, has a little bad luck. Of course Max may have a hand in one or two disastrous things that happen to Jason. Which brings me to another love. Max. I freaking love him and his crazy antics.

I’ve loved Jason since the beginning. At the end of Reid’s story we got a little glimpse at Jason’s past.

What I didn’t love. I felt this story was a little rushed. When Maddy came back and ran in to Jason maybe I was expecting more tears, apologies, maybe a little more conflict. I wanted more of an explanation from Maddy.

This felt like it could have been a novella to get to Jason’s story, if that makes sense. Although it wrapped the series up in a nice little bow. So I love the story but just wanted a little more from it.

Jason doesn't like to share, and sometimes gets violent when others ogle what's his, “that…” he put the shirt over my head, “… and if I see one more married man check you out, I’m grabbing my gun.” Jason really has crap luck, "I’d lost track of a lot of things in the past week. My truck door for one — my fault. My heart — her fault. My balls — the universe’s fault, not to mention an unfortunate run-in with lightning." I enjoyed this book, Max was still freakin' crazy the man it seemed still drove everyone bonkers. I liked Jason, his luck is just extremely crappy.

Is it even possible for Rachel Van Dyken to write a bad book???? Well, I haven't found one that I didn't absolutely love. The Consequences of Rejection is no exception. This is the fourth book in the Consequence series, and they really should be read in order.... You will get so much more out of them. This is Jason and Maddy's story, and of course Max throws himself into the mix. I don't think I stopped smiling the whole time I was reading, well, maybe I did when I was fanning myself during the steamy parts. so, what are you waiting for, get reading.

The little tidbits of advice at the beginning of each chapter, courtesy of Max Emory, were hysterical, and actually somewhat helpful!

When I wasn’t laughing, I was feeling really sorry for both Jason and Maddy and wanting to help them fix things. Even though Maddy was at the root of their pain, they were both hurting and I just wanted them to kiss and make up! Maddy is full of regret, but is it enough to get Jason to forgive her? Along with being hilarious, this second chance romance is raw, emotional, hot and sexy.

Laugh out loud funny! I haven’t read the others in the series yet, and I had NO problem keeping up with all of the characters. I will certainly be going back to read them ALL now. This is the classic RVD writing, funny, captivating and just GREAT!

I love all things Rachel writes, and I cannot believe that I hadn’t touched this series. This is a total one sitter, so make sure you have a few hours, or you will be disappointed when you have to close the book to do other things. Totally 5 star worthy if not more!!

5 Cranky Stars

Rachel VanDyken you've done it again. I laughed so hard I snorted and at one point I cried for Jason and Maddy. This story is one that I've been waiting for since the beginning of the series.

Jason is the most unlucky person especially when Max is around. I swear Max should be banned in all 50 states or maybe it would be safer to quarantine Jason. Put him in a bubble when Max is around.

Maddy left Jason after graduation breaking both their hearts in the process. In this 4th installment of the Consequence series Max is at it again doing what he does best and save the day one disaster at a time.

If I could give ever reader out there some advice it's to read this series. Rachel VanDyken has a way with words and is totally worth reading

This is the fourth book from the Consequence series, although this book can be read on a stand alone basis. Once again RVD has delivered a witty, slapstick romantic comedy. Add in the fact that this is a second chance romance so there is that element of hurt and a subtle dose of angst that gives the book an emotional edge and what we get is a thoroughly enjoyable read and a great escape from reality for a couple of hours. This is definitely worth a read.

These books are hilarious. That being said this is like the third book that I have read by this author where the timeline of the ages of the character does not line up. In the consequences of Loving Colten, Milo is 21 and Colten and Jason are 2 years older. That would make them 23 ish. This book takes place around a year later. That would make him 24-25, not 28. I guess that isn’t the end of the work here but in another book it was the difference between a 27 year old (falling for a 17 year old) and a 22 year old. At that age those few years are huge in maturity, which helps the reader really understand the type of H we are reading about. Just sayin’.

This second chance romance will have readers rolling with laughter at the same time sniffling, trying to hold back the tears because these two lovers journey will definitely hit you right at your hippocampus! I haven't read any book from the Consequence series but you don't really need to since the plot, despite the very memorable secondary characters, will definitely reel you right in. Jason and Maddy's romance hits all the right notes for a first love-second chance-forever kind of love romance PLUS a Max! (Really it was an effort for Max to not steal the scenes from these two lovebirds!)
Sexy, heartbreaking, funny and of course a great HEA makes The Consequence of Rejection worthwhile reading.

I started reading this book not knowing there were others. So I was wondering how the characters were all connected. However, I won't be reading the others because I couldn't finish this one. Are they 27 or 17. I felt like I was reading about teenagers. Max was annoying, Maddy was ridiculous, and no one has as much bad luck as Jason.

Great second chance love story. I especially loved the quotes from Max is book and all the rubs he threw at jason. Loved that we got to see all the other couples in the consequences series. This book had me wanting to go back and read the others from this series again. I loved the humor from all the guys Max especially and would love an outtake of there next vegas adventure or perhaps him becoming a father cause I think either event will conjure up hilarious moments.

5 Crazy Ass Must Read Stars!!!!!

Yay! The Consequence gang is back with Jason's story! OMG, Max! I'd love to be a fly on the wall in RVD's head while he is "talking" to her. The crap that spews forth is quite mind boggling. Max is one of my all-time favorite characters. You know what this series needs? It needs to be made into a movie just like Wingman Inc. series. I know I'm getting off course here but couldn't you just picture someone like Ryan Reynolds playing Max. Chris Pratt as Jason. Colt would be played by James Franco. And Nick Bateman as Reid. I can see it now. Box office smash!
Okay, okay. Snapping out of my movie daydream. Back on track. I just love this series so much. It is my favorite and one that I always recommend to those who want to laugh so hard they cry down their leg. Yup, this series is sure to have you laughing so hard that you'll end up like Max with some abs from doing nothing but laughing at all the hilarious moments that all these characters go through.
This book was no different. I laughed so much throughout. I had a perpetual smile on my face the whole time while reading. Even through the few sad parts because I was just knew that Max would say or do something to lighten up those moments. I liked that each chapter began with "Maxisms".
Poor Jason, though. He just can't escape all the injuries. Some I should have seen coming but there were a couple that just snuck up on me that had me gasping out loud. Holy cow, that dude has some bad luck and a huge case of wrong place/right time (or vice versa).
I can't wait to get this book on Audible. That's how I was first turned onto this series. It was available through Kindle Unlimited with voice narration. I ended up grabbing all the audiobooks and have been in love with all these characters since. If you haven't listened to any of the audiobooks from this series, I highly recommend doing so. Start with The Consequence of Loving Colton. Nick Podehl and Amy McFadden are amazing.
If you haven't figured it out already, this is my favorite rom-com series of all-time. I know I always say that it's so hard to pick a favorite book/series when there are just too many out there that I have loved. This is not hard choice for me though. Every single book in this series has been great and had me "laughing so hard that I cried down my leg". This book was no different. I absolutely adore the Consequence gang and highly recommend it to any one who loves a great rom-com.

This book was barely ok in comparison to the rest of the Consequences series. A bit too short a story and very contrived. You never really empathize with either Maddy or Jason and I was almost rooting for them to go their separate ways towards the end. Jason’s character throughout the series was that of a “super hot mess” so for him to go to the other spectrum of just being “super hot” was again just, contrived. Maddy’s character and the reasons for her actions were also not interesting nor really engaging. If you read the rest of the series, this book is worth reading to just finish the series out- but just be warned that it is not on the same level as the other books.

Oh Jason, you should have known better with a friend like Max your life will never be the same. With Max’s help and a lot of freak accidents Jason find his love again. She left once but will she again? Maddy and Jason’s story is one for the books, Max’s antics will crack you up, Jason will have you shaking your head, and Maddy you’ll fall in love with. So glad I get to see this series continue! Thanks Rachel for your amazingness!

Jason, poor Jason.

He's been burned.

His best fried/girlfriend/love of his life left at 18. No reason, no word, just left. Things transgressed/changed. And 10 years later she shows up. He wants to hate her. Wants to be mad. But he still loves her.

But his friends decide they only way to get over her is a trip down memory lane... How it all started.

But Maddy has her reasons for why she left.

As they embark on this journey, can they leave the past in the past or is it meant to be?

The give and take between these two is great. You definitely keep the pages turning. One click now.

I started this series first and I totally fell in love with this book. It did leave me with questions about grandma an other's, but I read the other books and now they make sense. Also, Jason is a big walking curse cloud, but I love that he gets his HEA. Yay for this SH!T HAPPENS WHEN MAX IS AROUND group for their HEA. If you like the other books this one is just as good. It'll knock you out of your boots, haha, get it!

OMG!!! I have laughed so hard through this whole series but this one and with Jason's luck had to be the funniest yet. I mean the poor man was hit on by an old lady and ran over plus so much more that I wonder how he is still walking and talking. But I loved how he went for Maddy but somehow always screwed it up..maybe with a little help from Max. LOL This series is a favorite of mine, and this one just hit the top spot.

Hilarious! Love dual POV chapters, and the excerpts from Max's 'book' were great too. Love the interlocking characters in the series. HEA, no cliffhanger, but read them in order for most enjoyment. Adult sex scenes. Hilarious interactions between characters, really makes u wish they were real and you were part of their group. Incredibly funny! And sarcastic! Love it!

Poor Jason. Anything bad can and possibly will happen to him. I'm so glad that he finally got his story and a chance at a happily ever after. The poor guy goes through hell in this book, but there's also the classic comedy twist that makes this series.

Note to self. When the guys start agreeing with Max, the world gets a little scarier. ?
