I never read (actually I listened) Van Dyken before and have no idea how I even chose this book, but now I'm a huge fan. The story is just different from all the usual romance formats which is really refreshing. Moreover, I have never before had to make sure I wasn't in public when I listened to it because I couldn't stop laughing out loud. A real special surprise.

Good read but after watching so many bachelorette and bachelor shows on ABC, I felt it to be a little unrealistic that he was so mean to all of the other girls, and that the other girls had no personality. Would've liked a little more character development.

Loved this story. I laughed, cried and smiled the whole time I was reading this lovable, romantic, funny and hilarious story. Some of the things they do in this story will make you shake your head. Max is a lovable sort of fellow and at times seems like he is only thinking of himself but its all an act he would do anything for his friends and family. Becca, when she first meets Max doesn't much care for his attitude. Friends from other Rachel Van Dyken books are here to add to the story with Max and Becca.
A must read as is all of Rachel's books in this series. Can't wait till the next one comes out. Great Job Rachel.

The tempo and nature of this book is very similar in feel to The consequence of loving Colton. This is a solid romantic comedy, with fast-paced dialogue and a fun setting.

The main character Max is Milo's best friend from book one and the crew from that book feature strongly in parts. Max is drifting after graduation from college without any direction. Jason puts Max forward as the bachelor on 'Love Island' reality TV programme. Max knows nothing about this until he is chosen. Amongst the women sent to the island with him is Becca, the barista who's been resisting his cocky charms.

This was a great, fun read.

A copy was provided by the publisher in return for an honest review.

The humor, friendships and hi-jinx that happen with in the pages of this book are in my top favorites. The quick witted dialog and comebacks, perfection. Almost like watching a tennis match..back and forth...never faltering with the perfect blend of sarcasm and wit. If you have read the first in the series you know what to expect with Max, or what not to expect! He is feeling abandoned and unloved and that makes him even more unhinged so to speak. He tries to humor, deflection and comebacks to keep people at arms length when stuff becomes too real. Until Becca digs a little deeper, stares a little longer and scratches the sarcastic surface of a man ready for love.

Loved it!!

We met Max in The Consequence of Loving Colton as he is Milo's best friend. In an attempt to get Max off his ass, find a purpose, and to get a little peace for themselves, his dear friends have gone behind his back and signed him up to be the next Bachelor on Love Island. So he is thrust on board a plane and then on an island with twenty five girls vying for his attention. And of course, the one that does catch his eye is Becca, a barista at the Starbucks near his home that has already shot him down once.

Becca is sassy, independent, smart and does not take crap from people. But she has a big heart and a bit of a savior complex. And soon she sees that Max could use a little saving. He and Becca have a rocky start, but soon find a common goal. and then develop a little bit of like and appreciation.

I love Max, but I swear he exhausts me with his fast-paced, frantic flights of thought, and crazy comments and ideas. But at the the same time his sarcasm, silly humor, and over the top reactions make me smile and laugh. He is crazy, unfiltered, and cocky, but is also endearing, vulnerable, sexy, charming, and energetic. Max also has a lot of mixed feelings about his life since his best friend found true love: anger, feeling worthless, lost, fearful, and lonely. So he is all over the place. But underneath it all is a man looking for a purpose and something to latch onto.

Becca is a good straight woman. She can keep him in line, but also can appreciate his goofiness and quirks. She was only on Love Island for the money. They never expected to fall in like and certainly not love. They both have their fears and insecurities that hold them back and cause some doubts.

It was a wild and crazy ride with shenanigans, competitions, tricks, games, mean cray cray girls, brotherly revenge and other trials and tribulations. There were twists, conflicts, erratic behavior, and surprise guests of both the human and animal kind. It is like the Bachelor meets Survivor with a comedic twist.

Can these two navigate the pitfalls of Love Island and end up together or will they end up back home as singles?

This was a total slapstick romantic comedy and you have to just go with it and enjoy the ride. This one might have been crazier than the first book. It was completely tongue in cheek, over the top, frantically paced. Oh Max--he is just something else....and Milo, Colt, Jason, and Reid just love to stir the pot. I love this tight knit group of eccentrics that taunt and torture each other. Add some loony ladies, an oompa loompa show host, some animal friends, prize money, a little alcohol and deydration, and let the insanity take over. I cannot wait for Reid and Jason's books. They have really doled out some challenges to their friends and it is certainly time for pay back.

The Consequence Of Revenge was a slightly insane but quirky and hilarious read.

Max has been tricked shall we say with going on an dating show similar to The Bachelor. He’s a bit reluctant of course and let me tell you some of the women are in dire need of some psychiatric help.

Becca however is the one sane girl yet her motives for going on the show may not be in Max’s interests.

What ensues is some insane and crazy moments involving a goat a gecko and a bit of crazy revenge here and there.

There are some sweet moments mixed in with the crazy. And as the show goes on feelings start to get blurry, love starts to blossom and I found myself excited to see how this ends.

Will Max get the girl?
Will he get burnt?
Or maybe he will walk away?

So many potential endings in this story that could have played out. One things for sure this was another crazy funny rom com.

I can only imagine what is in store in the next books in this series.

This is the second book in the Consequence series. If you want something that will have you laughing out loud, you need to one-click this series. I have loved every book that I've read by Rachel. I'm catching up on older books that I haven't read yet. I'm kicking myself for not reading them sooner. I do suggest you read them in order, you don't have to, but if you read book 1 first, you'll get a lot more interaction between Milo and Max and you'll see their friendship.

Jason is so going to get it from Max. I can't wait to see the revenge. I'm excited about it.

This book takes place on an island, it's a reality dating show. Yup, there are crazy women, lots of them. There's also an oompa loompa, an underwear eating goat, a crazy brother and cameras!

I really liked Becca. She was in it for the money. She had to pay for college somehow. But things changed.

Her and Max fit though. She gets him.

This is a must read!

Oh how I LOVE Max ... and Reid ... and Jason ... and Colton ... and Milo ... and Rachel Van Dyken!!! I really don't know how she does it but everything she writes is gold ... I keep telling myself with each book that it doesn't get any better than this but then the next book is ... EVEN BETTER!!!

First let me say that if you haven't read "The Consequences of Loving Colton" you should and you should do it right now because its amazing and you will understand this book so much better after reading the one first! That book made me fall in love with each and every one of the characters especially Max, I mean the things that come out of his mouth will have you in stitches laughing!

So in The Consequences of Revenge we start of with Max, kind of drifting through life feeling lost, he has graduated college, Milo has found Colton and gotten married and he doesn't really know what to do with himself anymore.
He doesn't have to work, his family is loaded. He is supposed to replace his father as a big wig in the hotel industry, but Max doesn't really know what he wants to do with his life. Since losing his best friend Milo, to her husband Colton, Max and Jason have become close friends spending time together. Jason decides that Max needs a nudge, push, shove, in the right direction to find his way.

So ... Jason signs Max up for a reality TV show, he is going to be the bachelor on the show "Love Island" where he will meet 25 eligible women and spend 3 weeks on an island getting to know them. In the end the woman he picks will get to either choose him or the prize money which is $250,000.00. Max is less than thrilled at Jason and his antics.

"Holy sh*t. I saw this movie! They almost died!" I pointed at the TV and cringed. Island, Island - why did that sound like a trap? Did I have a way to escape? What if I got an allergic reaction and needed a hospital? I was allergic to bees! Did they realize that if I got stung I could die? And what about island fever? It's a real thing! And rashes, and spiders and ho-oly sh*t on a stick.
Goats. What the farming h*ll?
Did islands have goats?"

The night before he leaves for the island the whole gang spends some time together. Now when this group gets together ... danger is near, every single time, someone will get hurt, and someone will probably end up in the hospital. This time was no exception. Sugar-free gummy bears ... sugar-free allergy ... poor Reid!!

"Why me?" he asked aloud.
"Why is it always me?"
"Um." Jason raised his hand.
"To be fair, its like we row the same boat, Reid. You deal with emotional attacks from elderly old ladies and I get straight up attacked, only I'm pretty sure I'd rather be physically injured than deal with lusty grandmothers and intestinal gas brought on by sugar-free gummy bears."

Reid of course ends up in the hospital but recovers. Max heads off to the island to meet the 25 women his friends have selected. Max soon discovers that he already knows one of the contestants, he actually hit on her recently and it did not go well ... at all!! Becca, is a barista at a Starbucks he frequents and his recent attempt to "pick her up" was shot down, but now Max is hoping for a second chance. Becca is there for the money and only the money, she is a college student who is paying her own way and she "needs" this money. Becca is headstrong, smart, witty, and her and Max are a perfect match, but she is stubborn and refuses to be swayed in anyway by Max's good looks and charming personality.

"Mighty Max gave a show last night."
"The mouse?"
"No, not the-"
"Reid, focus!"
"I swam naked, I was like a freaking mermaid and Becca- she saw it all."
"She saw me. Once a girl goes Max she never goes back. We know this. We both know this."

While Becca fights her attraction to Max, and Max fights his way into Becca's heart ... who shows up on the island, none other than Reid. Once Reid arrives things get even crazier.

"I'd spent the better part of my day getting chased by a goat, choked by seaweed, and attacked by a killer garter snake named Edward, and I'd finally ended said day of hell upside down while that same snake nearly nicked me in the balls, missing by what i can only assume was the grace of God, and biting my thigh."

Max and Becca end up of course hitting it off and becoming super close during the show. Becca deals with Max's craziness and at times participates in his insanity. But when it all comes to an end will Becca listen to her head or her heart, will she choose to be with Max or will she take the money ??

"Becca’s eyes filled with tears as she looked my way. My gut twisted, and I reached for her, one final pitiful plea for her to choose me. It was getting hard to breathe."

Another phenomenal book from Rachel .... KEEP. THEM. COMING!!!

The Consequence of Revenge by Rachel Van Dyken is the second book in her Consequence series. It can totally be read as a stand-alone but I feel the appreciation for the camaraderie between the characters would be higher if you read the series in order. Book one, The Consequence of Loving Colton is about the love story between Milo and Colton. Milo is best friends with Max. Max is the main male character in this second story.

This is one of the funnier books I have read in a while. The first couple of chapters had me snorting with laughter. The sheer quirkiness of the characters, especially Max, makes them ones I want to be friends with myself.

When Max "graciously" accepts that his friends have signed him up to be the next "bachelor" things just go haywire from there. Behind the scenes of a show like this is absolutely nothing like the edited version that gets aired. Max is quite frankly afraid of most of the contestants (no matter how gorgeous they are) and is happy to find himself with Becca the Barista as his own personal favorite of the contestants.

Becca (the barista) can't believe how outrageous Max is. when she blatantly turned down his lame pick-up lines at the coffee shop she had no idea he was going to be the man which she and 23 other women were competing for. When she actually begins to have a conversation with him, however, she begins to understand his sense of humor and approach to life and is now left to decide whether if she wins she will take the prize money or the prize male specimen that is Max.

I love this author's books and I really loved Max and becca (and Jason, and reid, and Milo, and Colton... and Hades). Can't wait to read more...

Another Hilarious and Brilliant addition to the Consequence Series from Rachel.
Featuring Max we all got to know and loved from The Consequence of Colton, he definitely needed his own story. And Rachel certainly delivered with such humor and romance between two characters that were opposite but were so right together.

With revenge from the gang and his best friend, Milo signed up Max to be the next The Bachelor on the reality TV Show without his consent. Max was not impressed until he saw the real of 24 ladies he had available that will be on the show. One girl in particular caught his eye, but after being rejected by her that embarrassed him he saw this as a second chance to win her over again.....

Becca was given the opportunity to of a lifetime that presented itself with a chance to win a cash load of money to help pay for college, little did she know The Bachelor was the guy that gave her the lame pick up line at Starbucks line she works at. With her stubbornness, she soon realised that this guy is might be a chance but is in the way of the reason she came on the show in the first place.

Max and Becca's story was one of those stories that you can see play out on TV and are just hooked from the moment it all falls apart! Their feelings for one another was hindered by one choice that ruins everything. However when trust grows in the heart for the one person that you didn't think you could, regret takes a hold of bad choices.

It's official. I'm obsessed with Rachel Van Dyken's Consequences Series. The Consequence of Loving Colton is one of my all time favorite books, so I had unattainable expectations for The Consequence of Revenge. Well, never doubt the magic of Van Dyken's words. Max's story was every bit as hilarious and I may even love it more than Colton and Milo's story. This book can be read as a stand alone but there are plenty of inside jokes readers will only understand if they read both novels.

The gang signs Max up to be the next bachelor on Love Island. Shenanigans ensue. That's it. That's all I can reveal without giving away plot spoilers. I absolutely laughed hysterically throughout this entire story. My body shook as I tried to keep in the laughter to not make fool of myself in public. Getting inside of Max's mind was fun and at times slightly disturbing. He's a hero that I will never get enough of. If you have a friend who loves to laugh, this is the perfect book for her. If your friend hates humor...yikes...recommend this book anyway. Maybe it'll soften her frigid heart.

The Consequence of Revenge is bursting with hilarity but also has tender romance and a few moments that keep you in suspense. I cannot wait to see whose story comes next, but for now I'll admit Max is my favorite. Once you go Max you don't go back. Rachel Van Dyken has definitely delivered with this book and it's a MUST READ NOW! for me.

Max Emory’s best friend married another guy and now he is lost. His friends decide he needs to get off his butt and do something with his life so they sign up him to be the next bachelor for the reality TV show Love Island. With his forged signature, how can he not do it? He is stranded on an island with 25 women, a goat, and a little gecko. One of the contestants is Becca, the Starbucks barista who did not fall for his lines back home. She is sassy, smart, a match for Max’s goofiness and quirks, and has a big heart and thinks Max needs some saving. Becca is on the show to win the money not the bachelor. Max is cocky, sexy, and a one high energy person with frantic flights of thought, crazy comments and ideas, sarcasm, and has silly humor.
On the other hand, Max is smitten by Becca and wants to get to know her better. The more time they spend together the heat gets turned up. They make a pact to win the show together. Max’s friends taunt and torture him but he sets out for revenge. In the end, will Becca’s heart win her over in the few weeks on the island or will she still take the money for school if she is the chosen contestant.
I thought this book was crazier than the first book in the series. There is unfiltered talk but it is a hilarious book that will make you laugh. This is a light-hearted romance that will make you shake your head with the craziness.

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I went into this one expecting to read a funny book. The first book that I read was hilarious but a pretty average read.

That was my expectation for this book as well and that's exactly what I got.

The book was funny and I think fans of The Bachelor would really like it. I have never watched The Bachelor, but it was pretty hilarious.

I thought the writing was fairly good. The characters were as quirky as ever. That was something I really enjoyed. I loved watching the characters interact.

Major Strengths: Funny plot and quirky characters.

Major Weaknesses: Just a pretty average read.

So why 3 stars?

Can I read the series out of order? Yes, this can be read as a standalone.

Warnings/Side-notes: 17+ for sexual references and instances of strong language.

The Wrap-up: It was enjoyable and a pretty average read, but I did enjoy it.

Love,

"Friends go with friends to get prostate exams."
I'm at 9% into the book and I know for sure I would give this book the 5 stars it deserves. I don't even care what the plot is and whatever this book is about after going into that far - I know I'm giving this book 5 stars. Why? Because it's freaking hilarious! I have never laughed so hard reading a book.

"You look like a Smurf. A hot Smurf. All tiny and you're making my balls -"
From the cheesy pick up lines to the prostate exam and the banter between very childish friends, this book is GOLD! I had tears in my eyes from the first few chapters to the last and it's not the ugly tears. They were rolling-on-the-floor-hard-to-breathe-laughing tears.

How many books are in the Twilight series?"

"Two!" the store shouted.

"WHAT?" I roared. "EVERYONE KNOWS IT'S FOUR!" Damn it. "EDWARD, BITE ME! I JUST WANT TO DIE."

Remember what I said about trigger words? I was wrong about Chris Brown and the snake. His trigger word was Edward.

I felt fangs. And heat. And then I screamed.
The crazy gang in this series will surely make you ask for more. I started with this book in the series, I would definitely try and look into the others' stories after this one. And the hilarity in this book is not its only attribute, of course. It is also romantic, and interesting.

"If I win, does that mean I go on a date with myself?"
I definitely had a LOT of favorite moments in this book - hell, this is probably one of my favorite books of all time. The best ones for me was the gummy bears, Reid's trip to the hospital, and when they tries to explain what a "fluffer" is. And those stuff about the goat and the gecko. Oh god, where do you get this stuff Ms. Rachel?

"Midnight's the only time where you can be both in the past, present, and future."
If they turn this book into a movie, I would probably watch it a hundred times over. If they made reality TV shows as good as what was in this book, I'd probably binge watch too.

In short, I really really loved this book! I would gift it to my friends just knowing they would have a good time with it. I would also look for those gummy bears just to give to the people I hate and have a blast. LOL

5 hysterical stars

random creativity
‘Max was ridiculous. Everything that came out of his mouth was random. He made no sense, but was so entertaining. I was never bored. One could never be bored around Max. I never knew what he was thinking, which was both a good and a bad thing.’

I’d say that is a perfect description of our dear Max! If you read The Consequence of Loving Colton you know Max and you probably love Max, the completely over the top, probably insane, definitely hilarious best friend who helped Milo carry out her plan to win over Colton. Max has spent the last 4 years of his life being Milo’s best friend and now that she has other things to occupy a lot of her time, Max isn’t so sure what to do with himself anymore. Tired of his moping around, the gang signs him up (behind his back) the be the next bachelor on a reality dating TV show. Knowing the types of shenanigans that happen involving anything with this group, what could possibly go wrong?

Being stuck on an island for 21 days with 25 women may seem like any man’s dream come true, but as Max points out during his hilarious ramblings, it’s actually pretty much a nightmare. Surrounded by loads of insane women, Becca is the one slice of normal he’s found. Having been rejected by her already at home (turns out they are from the same town) Max figures he has nothing to lose by proposing an alliance, she protects him from the crazies and he’ll help her win the money. Of course as the two spend time together feelings develop and it seems as though they may have found the real thing with each other even on this ridiculous dating show. However, once the final decision comes down, will Becca choose love or money?

In keeping with the spirit of the first book, this book was chock full of slap stick comedy and over the top characters. For some it may seem too much, while I agree it can get overwhelming at times, this book had me laughing out loud more often than not and ultimately it’s a light, enjoyable read. As silly as it is, I find the characters endearing and I love seeing what they’ll get up to next. I also really enjoyed that while Max was definitely his crazy, random self we also go to see some depth to his character which was a nice touch. There’s actually some substance beneath that pretty face and outlandish sense of humor, who knew!? I enjoyed the development of his relationship with Becca, sure it happened while on a reality dating show but it worked and it was very sweet. I also enjoyed that the whole gang was a part of this book and that Becca fit in so well. This crew is definitely crazy (or cray cray as Max would say) but it’s hard not to love them! I look forward to seeing what type of revenge Max will cook up for Reid and Jason in the next two books!

“I’m sure, no, I’m positive, that up until this moment I have been doing life wrong.” My hands gripped her hips harder. “Because I haven’t been with you. It hasn’t been with you.”
