Started this after reading the reviews on both books. Struggled through the beginning (15% on the Kindle) and decided to skip to the middle. Took about 2 sec to figure out what I didn't read and catch up. There are only so many mysteries in the world of writing. Plodding prose and flat characterization just kills any desire I might have to read a novel. I'm really disappointed in this one.

I kept reading for the suspense involved, but I was disappointed just a little that the solid footing in Gone Girl contrasted a little with the weaker foundation in this story. I like twists that are harder to figure out but that make sense once they are revealed. This story had some of that, which kept.me reading, but some were predictable.

As many mysteries are with few characters, it was a bit predictable, but I still could not put the book down. I would highly recommend this book.It was a break from other authors and she writes well. I have pre-ordered her next book.
The Sunday Times bestseller everyone is talking about :: Retreat And Adapt (A Galaxy Unknown Book 9) :: Cursed Command (Angel in the Whirlwind Book 3) :: Castle Vroman (A Galaxy Unknown) (Volume 6) :: Babylon Rising: The Edge of Darkness

I was hoping for a more gripping domestic type mystery and more overall character development and analysis. The book unwinded in an uneventful anti-climatic way; especially in the middle part and the characters were annoyingly bland and fell flat with the realtionships “ no spice”. I was especially taken at how little passion the married couple demobstrated towards eachother despite how much they said they loved each other and would stand by each other.

Quick read with lots of plot twists. However, another Shari Lapena book where I was unable to connect or empathize with any of the characters... except Brigid's husband (whom I wish had more of a storyline).
Overall, good book!

I have just finished my third Shari Lapena book! Fantastic! I particularly like the fact that there are not too many characters to follow. The twists and turns are deliciously revealed at a great pace! Write me another one please!

Lapena's 2 books that I have read are incredible. They capture your interest from page 1 and keep it till the very last word on the last page of the book. Very suspenseful. I can't wait to pick up another one from her. Hope she keeps writing.

I would not recommend this book. It is very poorly written. The characters and plot are never fully developed, so you never buy in to them. You never become involved or invested in the story. You just want it to end!

Dragged too much. Too many repetitions. Didn't enjoy this one as much as i did The Couple Next Door, now THAT was enjoyable. Straight to the point, suspenseful and filled with drama. A stranger in the house, not so much.
