I got the Kindle version in late October, 2012. It's a fine book, and DePrima is a fine writer. However, starting at location 2948, about 51% into the book, the italics start. That is -everything- is in italics. This goes on past the end of the book and into the appendix. It severely interfered with my enjoyment.

I strongly suggest you read the previous book in the series (A Galaxy Unknown, Valor At Vauzlee and Clones of Mawcett) prior to reading this book.

I really enjoyed this installment. It was literally full of excitement. The author's creativity and world building were flawless.

What the last installment lacked in high voltage action, this installment makes up for in spades! However, it's about time Jen's sisters started to see some ready action.

To fellow dark urban fantasy readers who are looking for an SF but are unsure of what to take a chance on; I highly recommend this book and series. The writing style is similar to DUF. I am also impatiently looking forward to the next book Milor! due out 12/15/2010.

I also recommend:
Song of Scarabaeus
Space Trippers Book 1: Trippin'
Black Magic Sanction (Hollows)
Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between
Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, Book 1)
Naero's Run (A Spacer Clans Adventure Book 1) :: Against All Odds (A Galaxy Unknown Book 7) :: Lily of the Nile (Novel of Cleopatra's Daughter Book 1) :: Lily and the Duke (Sex and the Season: One) :: Return to Dakistee (A Galaxy Unknown Book 8)

The first book was pretty good because J. Carver was coming from nothing to something. Yes she ended up being almost freakishly good at leading and decision making but you could chalk that up to luck and some sharp thinking. But over the course of the series, its obvious that the author's goal is to ensure that you love her completely. She never makes a mistake, everyone always ends up respecting her, she always gets promoted, never ages or gets ugly......where is the struggle? Half the fun is following a person that is unlikely to overcome evil and does anyway by taking alot of risk and getting lucky along the way. All the battles are practically pre-won because Carver is there. There is no explanation for why she is so good at making decisions and leading. By book 3 the Clones of Mawcett, I began to loose my enthusiam for this character and I don't think I ever got it back......

DePrima is a great storyteller. His plots and the universe in which they take place are believable, the characters consistantly interesting. I'm really looking forward to the next in the series. I recommend this book... you'll enjoy it.

Excellent Military SciFi series! I have 60 yrs of SciFi reading under my belt and loved this = action; excellent science conjecture; female lead well developed as a military officer ... never boring.
On par with series like: Gordon R. Dickson's "Dorsai"; Harrison's "Deathworld" trilogy; and Weber's "Honor Harrington". Decent Kindle pricing. Excellent editing compared to some of the ePub's out there. 8 in the series, and more coming ... growing fan base clamoring for continuing and expand the series, and side stories ["Border.." series coming in mid-2012]. ½ way thru Book 1, I had to buy 2-8!
