The book has so much less than meaningful detail that it is difficult to see the story and its salient facts. I doubt very much if the preponderance of the detail was based on recorded events. Whether it was or was not, its inclusion was beyond unnecessary It was superfluous and distracting.

I have sadly refrained from reading Ms. Weird works as I was afraid they would be dreadfully dry (being non-fiction), but please do not make my mistake and add this amazingly talented story teller to your list. She brought history to life and did not need the freedom of friction to make this an unresistible read!

Was a interesting look into the lives of Henry the VIII and the back ground of his wife's. It was an enjoyable read for the most part. Some historical can get boring and bogged down in a lot of details of historical events. This was just the right mix to keep you interested without boring you to death.
Henry V (Dover Thrift Editions) :: The Reader (The Immortal Series Book 1) :: Drown by Junot Diaz (6-Nov-2008) Paperback :: A powerful tale of a dark and dystopian future - Parable of the Sower :: The gripping Sunday Times bestseller now with an explosive new ending!

This book is incredible, I couldn't stop reading it. It follows the six marriages in great detail and it gives you the sociopolitical and international backdrop that you need in order to understand all the intrigues. Highly recommended if you like History from this place and period.

For anyone who is interested in history, and especially that of King Henry VIII, I highly recommend this book. The detail of each of the wives is greater than any I have previously read. Each of the women was given a considerable amount of coverage. It told of the deaths of each of them, including the widow Katherine Parr, the three children of the king and others. It is a long book but held my interest to the very end.

This book made history very interesting. The author's information came from archived letters, so it is not just the opinion of the author. The book follows Henry VIII childhood and covers all six marriages. The book describes each of the wives history and what happens after the marriages. The book is better than a modern day TV Soap, arranged marriages, affairs, executions, power struggles, religious conflicts and politics from the time period. The book also showed different sides of the characters, for example Henry VIII seems at times like a tyrant, and then a pawn in a political game, with his court trying to deceive him for their own benefits(a deadly game). I also enjoyed the when the author included the cultural and geographical history as well as information on the residences of the King, Queen and Court.

History brought to life... A fascinating and really well researched account of a period in history we may feel we know a lot about - but do we? This book weaves all the historical strands together to provide an excellent wholistic account of the period. I really feel I learned a lot and put some myths to rest at the same time.

Was interesting to read about all his wives and facts I didn't know before, especially about Anne Boleyn and Ann of Cleves. Boy was she lucky she wasn't good looking! Also all the facts about Henry himself that I didn't know before. Good read.

Anyone who likes history should read this book.
I was unaware that out of the six wives not all of them were beheaded. It also helps to see the PBS special Wolf Hall and the special before it because it explains a lot of the background history of Henry's court.
The background history is done very well, and it gives the reader a lot of the background history of the time. It is well written.

After watching Showtime's "The Tudors", I was curious about how much of it was fact and how much fiction. This book was very informative as well as a very good read. It also served to introduce more topics I would like to read more about. Let the learning begin!

A little slow at parts, and I definitely would recommend it to someone who is familiar with Tudor history. But it does delve into fascinating insights of each wife and it's interesting to see Henry's slow descent into madness

Love this account of Henry VIII and the period around these events. Read this when I was an undergrad at uni and still one of my favourites. Probably the starting point for someone wanting to get into the literature of his wives. Gives a digestible but detailed account of each woman.

This is well researched and well written. Like most chronicles of the time, it goes easy on Henry VIII. But his villainy makes the stories of his queens all the better. Her writing transported me back to that time. Great read.

This is an outstanding book. I've been fascinated with Henry all my life, but now feel I have a more intimate understanding of the personalities of these women. It is very well written and I have now purchased another book by Alison Weir and will likely continue to do so.

EXTREEMLY detailed, almost to the point of tedium but still a most interesting look into H VIII, his wives, his thinking, the court and politics surrounding it, and how all this fit into the national and world affairs of the time.

Extremely well-researched and written. Much in-depth information, including the author's own observations after the who/what/where are stated as "unknown": When/where was this queen born? What were the thoughts of yet another queen? The author used brilliant logic to answer these 500-year-old mysteries. The result is a fascinating novel that is hard to put down.

An interesting, easy to read history of the wives of Henry the VII. I'm a history nut and I love the Tudor period - so this has been one of my favorites of that genre by far. Alison Weir is a great writer and thorough historian, I would absolutely reccomend this to a friend!

After reading tons of historical fiction from this time period, I felt the desire to be clear on the true known facts about these women. Happy to say that this was MORE enjoyable and more of a page-turner than most of the fiction books I've read. Highly recommended.

An amazing book, so well-researched and well-written! BUT THE KINDLE EDITION HAS NO CHAPTER BREAKS, and you must go through the entire book one page at a time. This is a problem for those of us who like to skip around in a familiar story.

An extraordinary amount of historical information is presented in a fascinating, engrossing manner. At times I wondered how the author could profess to know what the characters were thinking, but well worth the time and money.

Loved this book - Alison Weir writes interesting and clearly researched information! Her style of writing is informative yet relaxed enough to make it a great "reading" book, not just another text-book.

I really liked the book, a little jumping around and wish the pictures would have been added in the appropriate chapters not all in one jumble. Other than that would recommend to anyone who likes learning about Tudor history

Alison Weir makes the reader forget how long ago the Tudor era was and helps that reader to understand just how things really were in those days. I've read many of her books and continue to do so. I learn something new, including some new vocabulary words with each book.If you enjoy reading English history books that are entertaining as well as edifying, this is a book not to be missed.

This book had a lot of very interesting facts that I had not heard before. Though it is nonfiction the author writes so well I felt I was reading a novel. This is the best book I have read by Alison Weir.

You would hard-pressed to find a character as interesting as King Henry, VIII. He broke rules, made people bend to his will, argued with the Pope and formed the Church of England with himself in charge of it, of course. Sounds very modern day.

Very interesting. Explained a lot. Did not bog down with crap just trying to fill pages. I would definitely recommend. Am going to purchase the book so I can move it around. Might even hold the interest of our younger folk, meaning ages 20 to 30 years old. If you think they would be interested in history.

Excellent written book! It reads quite quickly despite being a thicker book. One of my friends saw the book on my shelf as she was staying at my home, and started reading it. Needless to say, she bought her own copy!

Excellent Book. This book not only chronicles the wives of Henry VIII but also discuses in great detail the intrigue and events surrounding the court during the reign of the king. As a history buff this book was a boon to my knowledge of this particular era.
