This started really slowly for me. I couldn't seem to connect with Ella through the first half of the story. She was prudish on the outside, but sexual in her own mind. Her family was kooky but I couldn't see why she would have so many issues based on them.
Jake, he was fun from the start. He says he loves women but you are never presented with a man ho lifestyle which I kind of liked. He is quickly enamored with Ella despite her Wednesday Adams attire and frosty attitude.
They go from frustrated neighbors to lovers without much segway. The road bump in their relationship comes from a misplaced sense of betrayal on both their parts. I can't help but wonder about their relationship future when he was the only one to fight for it.
A warning to all, this ends at 88%. The rest are snippets from other books. One of them a favorite of mine, Game On.

Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

When a man knows his way around not only a kitchen but a woman's body, he is every woman's dream man! As I read this steamy read by the talented Katie McCoy, I had to ask myself why this was my first time reading her work! Play Me is fun, beautifully sweet, intensely sexy and filled with dialogue that will grab your attention. I loved the way the two main characters are so diverse and yet so alike. Ella and Jake's love story will take you on a classical, culinary ride that is unforgettable while heartwarming. This is a great addition to my Contemporary Romance library and it will not be the last by this amazing author.

When you get in bed at two or three in the morning, you really need your sleep! Working as the head chef of one of San Francisco's most touted restaurant, Jake Matson has almost reached his life goal. He is one step closer to owning and running his own restaurant, where he can showcase his menu, filled with dishes that he has created. So, why is his new neighbor playing the piano? It doesn't matter that she is seriously hot and affects him like no one ever has before! What could a classically trained pianist and a chef possibly have in common?

No one has ever really believed in her ability as a musician. Her love of Classical Music is a driving force behind the pursuit of her dream. Her ex only wants to change her, make her into some one cold, stiff and without heart. But Ella Thomas wants to show others the beauty of her music. When she meets her tall, ripped, tattooed neighbor she finds out that first impressions are not always the way things really are. Jake Matson makes her feel alive, like she had been living in a dream world. Is it possible to combine their two very different lives into one reality?

I Was Provided A ARC By The Author
(Possible Spoilers)

Ella Thomas has just moved into her very own place, its just her and her beloved piano in her little studio apartment. She's looking forward to spending all her time perfecting her craft, in order to win a very big competition and make a name for herself. She doesn't have time for much, she prefers things simple and plain. That is, until she has a encounter with the tall, scruffy, ripped t-shirt, sexy chef in the upstairs apartment. Jake Matson, with his charming smile, cocky attitude, and brownies, interrupts Ella's carefully laid plans and starts to liven up her life.

Jake Matson, the new head chef at Grassfed, is ready to show, with the help of his best friend Dakota, his boss and all of San Francisco what a damn good chef he is. He has a dream of owning his own restaurant some day soon, and running the kitchen at Grassfed is a step in the right direction. With long days at work, having time for romance isn't very realistic. But when he lays eyes on his gorgeous downstairs neighbor, with her dark clothes & a secret love for beautiful lingerie. This pianist that disturbers his sleep with her playing, suddenly having time for romance doesn't seem all that hard.

Play Me was a sweet, sexy, and fun book to dive into. Jake & Ella are both great characters. Total opposites in most ways, Ella who prefers plain foods and no color, routine and simplicity. Jake, with his ripped shirts, bed head, and love for food. But both share a huge passion for what they do and their dreams.

I liked seeing Ella's character grow in this story. She starts to appreciation things in life, like food, added color to her wardrobe and fun. She opens herself up a lot with the help of Jake. And comes to understand that her dreams and happiness are for her. She's a sweet and charming character. Ella helps Jake see he has more potential than he ever thought and that sometimes, simple is good. Jake is a wonderful book boyfriend for everyone to swoon over. A sexy tattooed chef, with a love for brownies. Yes please. ;)

All together this was a fantastic, fast read. Katie McCoy is definitely a author to watch.

Overall Opinion: This was a really cute and light read. It has very little angst, and is a perfect one to lighten you up if you have just read a particularly angsty book. It was SO refreshing to have a h and H that both recognized their mistakes and worked to fix them! I had some issues with the pacing and ending, and I wouldn't say that we get in really deep with the characterizations -- but it was enjoyable.

**See goodreads.com/NMmomof4 for my full review with spoilers**

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Ella and Jake's story. Ella finally has moved out of her parents house and into an apartment of her own. She is trying to win a big pianist competition, and has to practice like crazy. Jake has recently been awarded head chef at the restaurant he works at and has to put in odd hours, so when he is awoken in the morning by incessant piano playing he is upset. They don't get off on the right foot right away, but their mutual attraction takes over and they eventually start a relationship. They have some sexy times, some sweet moments, some big changes in both of their lives, and they eventually get their HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Ella and Jake's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Ok. My biggest complaint is the abrupt ending (@ 88% on my kindle app). Otherwise I thought it flowed well, and I didn't skim at any point.

Instalove: No. I wouldn't say it was instalove -- instalust for sure, but feelings of love took longer to develop.

H rating: 4 stars. Jake. He was tired of ONS, knew what he wanted, and went after Ella. I liked how he tried to actually woo her (which is a nice change from most of our current H's) and owned/made up for his mistakes when he made them.

h rating: 4 stars. Ella. I liked her transformation into a confident woman, and her inner dialogue was funny at times.

Sadness level: Really Low. No tissues needed, and even their big conflict was minimal.

Heat level: Moderate. They have some good sexy times.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes, mentions of condoms being used.

OW/OM drama: Minimal

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Closure: This was my big complaint about the book. My kindle app said it was at only 88% too! I really wanted more time with them as an official couple, and a jump ahead epilogue would've done wonders IMO. I would call it a HFN ending.

How I got it: I got it with my kindle unlimited subscription

I thoroughly enjoyed Katie's first book Game On, so I jumped at the chance to read her new book. And when I saw that cover....WOW.

Ella is a professional pianist. She has just moved out of her teacher/ex boyfriend's apartment and is living on her own for for the first time in her life. She is preparing for a very important competition and needs to focus. She feels that living on her own will help with that. Jake is the head chef at a successful local restaurant. He lives upstairs from Ella and tries to play the role of disgruntled neighbor when her piano playing wakes him up. But one look at Ella and Jake is quite taken with her.

The two of them get off to a rough start, but a batch of brownies changes everything! After Ella tells him that she doesn't really like food and he tastes are very plain and ordinary, Jake pretty much makes it his mission to change that. Jake is able to convince Ella to go on "one date" with him and it's a great date. Of course one date turns into two and then three and before they know it, they are dating.

I just loved Ella. As someone who loves classical music and sings in an amateur choir that often sings Mozart, Haydn, or Schubert I appreciated Ella's commitment to a genre that most people easily dismiss. ESPECIALLY since her family were all jazz musicians. There is a moment in the beginning of the book where Ella is explaining to Jake why she loves to play classical music and I think fell a little in love with her just like Jake did. Jake is good people. He became Ella's support system when she felt that no one in her life was there for her. He never once doubted her skills as a pianist and came through for her in the most adorable way when she thought things were over between them.

I really liked this book. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down and I finished it in record time. There were plenty of lighthearted moment that made me laugh and it made me crave brownies, which I have year to make. (Trust me, it will make sense once you read it.) Katie has become one of those must read authors for me and I look forward to reading her future books.

I absolutely loved this sweet tale of love and romance. This story had no major roller coasters or cliffhangers, but Katie McCoy writes this sweet tale in a way that keeps you turning the page before you realize you are 80% in the book and it's almost over.

We have Jake, a tatted up chef who sounds like sex on legs, but he is so sweet and playful I want to spend time with him. Then we have Ella, a concert pianists training for a major competition. Living in the same apartment building they meet and have a rocky start to the point Ella is shutting the door in his face. Our book boyfriend Jake decides to apologize and before we know it they are on their first date. Ella is trying to find her true self. She has spent so many years listening to others, she made it true. Jake sees differently. He sees something inside her, he just has to pull it out. He does, but by not even knowing it. All he did was be supportive and treat her well. Ella is the one who opened her eyes and realized she is more. Jake, well she helps him too. She gives him his family back. This story is told in alternating POV between Jake and Ella. Ella's family is hilarious, truly loving, even if it is in a hippie pot brownie way. Katie plays them up well as great secondary characters who bring humor to the story, but also helps explain way Ella sees herself the way she does.

The chemistry between Ella and Jake is great. They teach each other so much, but by just being themselves. Of course we have a HEA. You won’t be disappointed in this read, now I want to find more books by Katie McCoy, this girl knows how to draw you in, what I love best in a book!! I read this book as an ARC for an honest review for Alpha Book Club.

Title: Play Me
Author: Katie McCoy
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: January 27, 2016

Play me had me transfixed from start to finish. It was everything I thought it was going to be: a sweet romance, funny, strong characters and lots of sexual tension. This was a first time read for me by this author. Author Katie McCoy did an awesome job writing this book. The POV between the characters was very enjoyable, and the book had a great and understanding plot. What I liked about the plot is that it has equal parts romance and character development. It really is about Jake and Ella falling in love but I liked how their romance didn’t take away from their individual character growth. A little about the main characters in this book.

Ella Thomas is a very serious musician and all she wants is to make it through the competition of a lifetime. So of course practicing at all hours of the night is just what she needs. What she doesn’t expect is her sexy neighbor, Jake Matson, to come banging on her door one night.

Jake is finally doing the job he has always dreamed of, as head chef at one of the top restaurants in the city. He worked super hard to get where he is and has crazy hours in order to maintain his success. So, when non-stop classical music interrupts his much needed sleep he intends to put a stop to it. What he doesn’t expect is to find a sexy woman, hidden behind the normal buttoned-up appearance he is use to seeing from her.

This book had a good combination of sexual tension and also had a strong emotional development. I would defiantly recommend this book to all my friends who read the same types of books I do. It deliver a very real, very heart-warming story that could easily be about real people.

As a classical pianist trying to compete in a competition and catch a break, Elle Thomas, 25, is focused on her music…or at least she’s supposed to be; it’s what her music teacher slash ex tells her. And not only does he remind her, he’s kind of tried to brainwash it into her, bringing her confidence down a few notes.

Anyways, since music is key, Elle isn’t too worried about having bare kitchen cupboards in her new apartment. Having hot tattooed 27 year old neighbor, chef Jake Matson, bare….well that might be a problem. A problem of distraction.

While initially irritated with her, Jake who sports ratty tees that show off his abs is attracted and intrigued. And lucky for Elle, Jake is a total good guy. A real sweetie, he’s adorable. (If only you could go to a restaurant and order up him!) And helpful…

It seems Elle is in a bit of a slump, having difficulty taping into her inner passion, both at the piano and in the bedroom. But Jake might just be her new muse for reaching a crescendo, and the piano bench a place for making more than one kind of music. If only both of their fledgling but demanding careers don’t get in the way.

Told via Jake and Elle’s alternating first person POV, this is a sweet and sexy, delightfully low angst, romance. Play Me is like chicken soup for the romantic soul! It’s lighthearted and fun and will definitely keep you smiling….and salivating, both over that V on the cover as well as the images of Jake’s gooey chocolate brownies.

While Play Me is a standalone, the supporting character of Nina (loved her advice and encouragement) and Dakota definitely have potential as heroines of their own stories.

After reading Katie McCoy's debut novel, Game On, I was really excited to get more from her and she did not disappoint! The cover and the blurb will draw you in and once you start reading you won't want to stop. She excels at twisting a whole lot of sexy and sweet into a story that will pull you in and make you fall in love with each and every person you encounter! Play Me was completely different from her first novel but still oh so good!

Ella and Jake are both driven to succeed, but take different paths to doing that. We have Ella Thomas who is a serious classical musician who has hidden her whole life. She is shy and lacks confidence. She absolutely hates the spotlight being on her. On the other hand, we have Jake Matson who is living his dream of becoming a head chef in the restaurant world. He has worked his butt off to get to where he is today and even works the crazy hours to maintain his success. These two complement each other and make the other a better person. The chemistry is just off the charts explosive between them! I loved watching both characters grow throughout their story.

Play Me was a great combination of humor, passion, and drama. I loved all the side characters, like Dakota (Jake's best friend) and Ella's whole family was just hysterical. This was overall a good book. The only thing I didn't like was that the ending was a little bit too abrupt for my liking, with not even an epilogue as a conclusion. I definitely can't wait to see what else Katie McCoy has in store for us next!

Sexy lingerie hidden under a cloak of pulled back hair and black nun-like clothes, classical pianist Ella thinks she has ‘made it’. She has her own apartment, she’s ditched her controlling ex and she’s practising for the music competition that will change her life, until she meets her neighbour Jake. A chef who has just taken over as Head Chef at a busy restaurant. He thinks he can seduce Ella with his cheeky grin, his charm and his delicious cuisine.
Boy does he have another think coming!
What happens when opposites attract? Will they create beautiful music together or will they be just another flash in the pan?

5 out of 5 deliciously mouth-watering Stars!

“Who was this woman who wore black shapeless dresses, blushed at each sexual insinuation, and wore red lace and garters? She was a mess of contradictions…”

Katie McCoy sure does know the right ingredients needed to create an atmosphere of sexual tension and anticipation. The characters and plot are honest and believable - the perfect combination of flirting, heat, passion, glorious music and delicious food.
I loved reading Play Me, it was a very easy read. It was funny, seductive and scorching hot!!

“None of my past boyfriends had ever used words like “sexy” or “hot” to describe me. If anything, I was “nice” or “pretty.” I certainly wasn’t someone who was lusted after. And what if, when it came down to it, I was just as boring in bed as I had found my exes?”

5 playful stars!! Sexy, quirky and fun!

Ella is a pianist and she’s practicing for her next competition. She’s finally on her own in her own fabulous apartment and she can practice as much or as little as she wants. She’s loving her little place so much. Until she realizes her neighbor is keeping her up all night. Realizing she’s had enough she confronts her sexy neighbor Jake and explosions happen, not to mention hot steamy sex. Jake is a smoking hot chef at one of the most popular San Francisco restaurants. He’s a busy man, always on the go, not looking for love…...that is until he and Ella meet.

This book is electric and explosively hot!! Ella and Jake have so much sexual tension it’s insane….you want to yell at them, “just do it already!” The storyline is well developed and totally believable…..I never questioned anything that happened as I read. I loved the chemistry and witty banter between Ella and Jake, I chuckled to myself a few times. Definitely worth the read!

Classical music is all Ella has ever known, to her very core it is everything that she has ever wanted but she can’t shake the demons that plague her mind and leave her feeling that she is chasing a dream that will never be within her reach.
Setting out with one goal in mind, Ella find her own place and makes the decision that she is going big, she is all in so to speak, her target is the most high profile competition out there, and what will she achieve, well she can silence her doubting family and finally be able to rid the doubts that her ass of an ex planted in her brain…not good enough – she’ll show them!
But living on her own wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, she had a fly in her plans…a neighbour that really took exception to her playing her piano while he was trying to get some sleep. So what could have become a war of attrition quickly became so much more as they both began to battle more than their individual desires.
Jake is the distraction that Ella doesn’t need but he is one that she cannot keep at arm’s length and I don’t blame her! I would have closed the lid on that piano in a heartbeat if he was my distraction.
The book was a sweet read, it was romantic when it needed to be but it had more going for it than just that neighbours to lover’s vibe. It had drama that I didn’t expect and boy was it funny.
I really enjoyed this

Katie has the recipe for success with Play Me—a dash of humor, a cup full of drama and a whole lotta delicious romance with one tattooed, mouthwatering chef who loves to make brownies. Yes, please!

Ella lacks color in her world. She is focused on being a professional pianist and has followed her jerk ex-boyfriend/teacher’s instructions on how to live for far too long when the scrumptious chef/neighbor, Jake Matson shows up and brings color to her world.

I laughed, I drooled, I wanted to punch a certain character, I laughed some more, and at the end I had a huge smile plastered to my face.

Disclaimer: Be sure to have a plate of gooey brownies on hand while reading. You will need it!

5 Perfectly Plated Stars for Play Me.

With this being my first read from Katie McCoy, I wasn't sure what to expect. I LOVE the cover and the blurb had me craving more. It started off at a great pace with lovely banter that had me grinning from ear to ear. It kind of took off from there at an extremely fast pace and things seemed to hit fast forward, which was okay with me for the most part. It seemed like the parts that I needed to savor went by way to fast and the parts that needed to hit fast forward dragged on a bit. Either way it still goes down as a delightful, short, sexy read for me. Funny and sexy, yet a little predictable still made this a quick romance read that I would recommend. It was lacking a little meat in the story, but still ended up satisfying my craving for a quick and sassy read.

ELLA is a classical pianist having just moved out of her ex-boyfriend/teacher's apartment and into her own while preparing for a very important competition. Almost immediately after moving into her new apartment she meets her neighbor, Jake, who she gets off on the wrong foot with. While the sexual chemistry is there, they act very adversarial to one another which doesn't make for the greatest first meeting.

JAKE is a sexy, tattooed head chef who quickly becomes a distraction for Ella when he becomes intrigued by the girl who dresses like she's seventy and is the most uptight woman he has met.

While Ella is struggling with her music, Jake may just be what Ella needs to hit a crescendo all of her own.

PLAY ME is a fun book full of romance while at the same time being oh so sexy. I adored Jake so much. Not only was her this sexy beast of a man, he's a total sweetheart. I just wanted to wrap him up and keep him for myself. The perfect blend of comedy and romance, PLAY ME is a short but delightful read sure to get your heart accelerating and leave you craving more.

McCoy's writing is delightful and spunky and I look forward to more of her work.

My love for sexy, tattooed men is still going strong. And this one can cook, which isn't the draw you'd think it would be for Ella, who is kinda repressed in the food department. That sounds weird, but she's not really big on trying new things and hooking up with a chef isn't high on her list of things she cares about.

Good thing Jake doesn't let a little thing like apathy over a good meal stop him from worming his way into her life. And her bed.

Hunky, tattooed men who can cook. *slow thumbs up*

Ella definitely has some issues she needs to work through. Besides the upcoming competition, her ex is more than half a douchecanoe and she's branching out into her own place for the first time. Oh, and she gets terrible stage fright when it comes to performing in front of an audience. Which isn't the easiest thing to work with when she has to perform.

Good thing she has Jake to distract her.

Sexy, steamy, and with a good girl who likes expensive lingerie. What's not to like?

Amazing Stars! James is here in America for an exhibition soccer game, he does not believe in girlfriends, just one night stands. Nicole doesn't do relationships because she has had her share of bad relationships and she takes care of her brother with Down Syndrome. Until she meets James one night while she was working in the hotel bar. What will happen to them since he is a one night stand man and she usually does do relationships? Can they be happy together? The author writes a story that blends romance and comedy that will keep you turning the pages. I thoroughly loved this story and the characters had great chemistry. This book is one you do not want to miss out on! Highly recommend!

This is about finding love in unexpected places and fighting to keep that love. I really enjoyed the characters and i loved them as a couple. the story is about a surprising love between a piano and a chef. I love this book because both of the characters are trying to accomplish their life goals and when they come together, they achieve those goals. The story flowed really well and the author's writing was awesome. This book kept me interested and i was rooting for them to find their way back to each other.

I love Jake. He is exceptional at everything!!!! Ella
Is exquisite. I enjoyed the opposites attract vibe of this book. I liked the quirks of everyone in this book, even the support characters. Ella's family was so different, but in a good way. I wish we would have seen Mark get what was coming to him but he lost Ella so... I would've really enjoyed an Epilogue. Nonetheless it was written well.

What a quirky story... sweet and adorable and oh so sexy too!
Ella and Jake are neighbours and well at first they can't really stand each other but you know how it is.. the attraction is there!
I love the way they are so different yet have the same values at heart, how they are exactly who each other needs even when they don't want to see it.

Ella with her less than exciting ways and Jake with his more than sexual appeal end up pulling off a story with steam, heat, and music to my ears. A book full of sexual satisfaction and enough discussions about chocolate to make you wonder if you have enough eggs in your fridge. It doesn't last long though because you end up drooling some more over Jake's tattoos. I would totally consider reading this again!

This is a sweet, kind of predictable romance with the sexy chef and the demur classical pianist who may have never connected if not for the fact that they are each to there annoying neighbor. Minimal angst, tastefully done heat (and that's out of the kitchen), and a sweet HEA in the end. A quick and fun read.

Overall, sweet book. Felt like some parts just lacked a full description or were rushed through. I don't feel like either character reached their full potential. I felt like it was hard to finish, just fizzled out about midway, sort of picked back up and then just fell short in the end. I am not left wondering "where are those characters are now". It was just okay.

This book was great from start to finish. I loved everything about it. I loved how Jake and Ella met, I loved how he wooed her, and I loved their first date, particularly. This was a really fun read. Everything about Jake was beyond sexy, and so was the story. Great work!
