I enjoyed the first book, Rise of the Dragons well enough. This second book went downhill. The formula got REALLY annoying. ('watch out! this strange creature is attacking. watch out this other strange creature is attacking. watch out, another strange creature is attacking) Annoying details like conveniently not mentioning someone gathering and carrying their weapon when their hands were full and then suddenly having it with them 2 chapters later. When we got to the sharknado I decided not to get the third book. The ending line of the book made sure I am done with this series.

I really enjoyed the story-line and the character story arcs. I am able to look past the editing mistakes - but many readers cannot. A quality editor would lift this series way up in popularity and readability.

Nonetheless I will be reading the next one as well.

The second read and enjoy during breaks in your weekend books. Well written. Its plot, characters, thoughtful scenes of war room planning lead the reader onward in her march to a triumph of the good, but then pushed back by the evil in their world which watches it crawl and walk from an underground tunnel in overwhelming numbers of various trolls and their mindlessly fighting brethren.
Rice' s books continue drawing me in, wanting to read more. That's something a good writer does.

Book two again left us with a cliff hanger wanting you to get book three. The story continues. Different that there are several characters in the same time frame, but they are not together. There are about 9 main story lines, which i suspect will become intertwined as the books continue on. Light reading. At times the jumping from one characters story line can be a bit disruptive but all in all a good story. There are life lessons that I would not we worried about sharing with teens.
