I am not positive that you would absolutely need this book to complement the corresponding lesson book. However, every single one of my students absolutely LOVES this book. It makes it easier on the teacher too, because it spells out the curriculum and you won't accidentally forget to cover something.

The piano teacher who is working with our twin four year old sons use the lessons from this series. The lessons are fun and easy for children to understand. The pictures are vivid and they use the same characters throughout the book so the children have something familiar to see in each new lesson.

I really enjoy teaching with the Faber books in addition to other methods I use. No matter what the level, this series focuses on getting my students to read their music more quickly. There's a strong base in music theory and I find my students play from the grand staff a bit more quickly. The pieces tend to have a bit more challenge to them, depending on level, and I've seen very good results using these books. From lesson books to theory and technique and great solo pieces, I recommend these as a piano teacher. My First Piano Adventure, Writing Book A

The best part about these books are that they come with CDs. I have been teaching piano for more years than I care to count right now, and starting a beginner in these books is SOOO much easier than in 'Bastien' (which is also a great method, don't get me wrong, its just that (as far as I know) they do not have the added tool of the CD. ) Kids have such amazing memories that tapping in on this resource is extremely helpful.
The books say they are for 5-6 year olds but my daughter started in them at age four (only b/c she was begging me.)
At this point the purple Level C book does not have a CD, so just be warned. I will likely skip book C with my daughter and just go to Primer Level Performance book which does have a CD. (Plus the lesson book). Also, I plan to take my students through Royal Conservatory (they have CDs also!) and I think that this series plus 1-3 years in the Piano Adventures series will be a fabulous prep course for RC.
