The Food RX approach to healing your body and creating inner balance makes so much sense. The earth is beyond abundant in wholesome, smart foods that know exactly how to nourish our bodies back to health. Why are we not utilizing these amazing tools? The book contains 7 food prescriptions that profess to nurse you back to health. I really loved the GI prescription, I encountered some pretty heavy GI issues this past year and I was eager to find a holistic approach to healing my gut. Prior to reading Haylie’s book I was spending thousands of dollars on medical bills and dangerous prescriptions; you know the types that suppress one symptom while wreaking havoc on the rest of your body. As a single mom I can’t afford to be sick all the time or foggy from prescription pills, I needed to find a solution that was in harmony with my body. With the Food RX I learned to incorporate yummy, gut healthy ingredients into my day to day, and I found myself having less and less symptoms. I love all of Haylie’s books and would buy them just for the delicious recipes, the new, included recipes did not disappoint. The Food RX Energy prescription was right up my alley as well. The hustle and bustle of city living often takes its toll, and I usually find myself bogged down by pollution, stress, and a myriad of other energy thieves. I decided to remove caffeine from my diet (because it too will slyly steal away your energy) and incorporate some of the recommended foods and sure enough within a few days I felt less fatigued. I love that the book includes a whole body diagnosis quiz which helps you figure out where you should begin. I would highly recommend the Food RX to all my friends and family.

After reading Haylie's book the first time, I immediately bought 5 more for friends. She's extremely knowledgeable and makes seemingly complicated biochemical science easy to understand. Write your own food prescription. It will have a greater, longer lasting and more restorative effect on your life than anything ever will.

Very interesting. I appreciate the prescriptions and will definately be trying a couple of them out...but was definitely expecting more recipes. Only a few included. With more recipes I would have given at least one more star.

I discovered Haylie Pomroy on Dr. Oz when she launched her NY Best Selling book The Fast Metabolism Diet April, 2013. I followed that book and lost 25 pounds that hadn't budged for over 2 years with other diet plans. I loved her use of normal regular food to heal your metabolism!! This past Black Friday I saw on the store you could pre-order her new book Fast Metabolism Food Rx so knowing her use of natural foods to heal I pre-ordered. I was lucky to receive an advance copy and after I began to read it I was like no way was I going to cancel my the store pre-order, this book is too important to not get another copy and give to a family member suffering from several of the health problems listed in the book!!!
Haylie has a wonderful way with her reading audience of making you feel like you are her client in her clinic discussing your own health issues. she makes you feel like she is your nutritionist guiding you down the road to a healthier you, not by medicating you but using every day natural foods as your pharmacy......she helps you to make your kitchen your pharmacy!!

I took the quizz and began the GI plan two weeks ago and am loving the recipes and all the wonderful foods I get to eat!! This book can easily change people's lives. I did the FMD in Novemebr and lost 12lbs. After years of eating disorders, I just assumed my metabolism was so screwed up that I couldn't lose weight. I not only lost weight with this, but felt 100% better. I started the RX for Focus and Energy and noticed a difference in 4 days of how I felt. Things were clearer, I didn't feel like I was in a fog anymore. This plan is amazing, you are never hungry and you feel great! Much love for Haylie!

Great Book that explains how you can choose the food you eat to help with so many of the health issues that most people take medication for. Haylie has a test to help you figure out which of the eating plans she provides is best for you to follow. With the power foods list and great meal plans, she describes how your body uses the food we eat to help heal itself and to stay healthy. With her clinical studies and her own health issues, Haylie really has easy to understand guidelines to follow in order to avoid sickly doctors visits. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

I went through the Fast Metabolism Diet last fall and dropped 26 pounds, hitting my ideal weight. I am not on the program now, but because my metabolism was repaired, I now have maintained my ideal weight and sleep better and feel great... and I am still eating! Now her new book, Fast Metabolism Food Rx, brings a new dimension to metabolic repair, and addresses chronic health issues that face many people today. This is an interesting read, and certainly one of the better books available for addressing the connection between food and health. The content might be somewhat technical for some readers, particularly if this topic is new to you. That being said, the author does an excellent job of clarifying and breaking down information into the simplest terms.
The layout is simple to navigate, with much of the book divided into diet plans for specific health issues. This allows readers to easily find the plan best suited to their needs. We're given lists of the best foods to eat and, in some cases, foods to avoid. The author also includes a sample meal plan in each section.
While I do think this book is well worth reading, there are some things to be aware of before delving in. First, the diet plans are all quite strict. I've been following a fairly strict diet on my own for years, partly out of necessity and partly out of preference. But this is even strict for me. You need to really want to heal, and you need to have a lot of willpower in sticking with this. These diet plans will be especially difficult for people who work full-time. Along with the strictness of what you eat and don't eat, you're required to eat a small meal or healthy snack five to six times every day. So you'll need a flexible job and/or an understanding boss.
The most challenging aspect for me personally is the meal preparation. Even many of the snacks require some measure of cooking. If you're like me and have severe chronic health issues, you might also find this aspect of the healing diet exasperating.

I liked this book because Haylie Pomroy has an unusual ability to clearly explain reasons for specific foods & their interactions with chemicals & processes in the body. She uses easy to understand vocabulary as well as listing all scientific research sources. Knowing what is happening in our body when we eat certain foods together is important for a healthy functioning metabolism. All my life I ve had thyroid issues - thyroid cancer - & finally a thyroid storm. Her information gives me much confidence in maintaining a healthy & higher functioning metabolism. Thank you. "The Fast Metabolism Food Rx" describes how you can use healthy foods to help your body to heal itself. The author's own health problems motivated her to study nutrition and come up with these plans, and now she does this professionally. The foundation of her program is a list of foods that will help your body to heal. You can buy almost all of these foods at a local grocery store. You'll need to make your own meals, but she suggests making extra and freezing it for when you don't have time to cook.
She recommends 3 meals and 2-3 snacks each day, eating every 3-4 hours, plus at least 8 hours of sleep. You eat from certain categories of food (complex carbs, vegetable, fruit, protein, etc.) at different times to help heal certain problems. You choose the foods that you like from the foundational food list under each of these categories. She included some recipes as examples, and she talked about appropriate exercise and relaxation options to compliment the food prescriptions.
I have no concerns about her food selection or overall eating plan. However, her every-three-hour prescriptions don't allow much wiggle room, and not everyone is going to have a work schedule that will allow it. Yet I still recommend this book, as I'm pretty confident that you'll improve if you just increase the amounts of these foundational foods in your meals. About 90% of my meals are already made up of these foods, and I've healed from a number of health problems.
NOTE: I saw some people saying that this book was too technical, but I was left wishing that she'd given more information about why she selected the foods and eating patterns that she did. She gave enough information to describe the overall goal that she's trying to achieve with her advice, but she didn't give details about how it did this. The only "highly technical" sections I can think of are the tests that she recommends you ask your doctor to run to help monitor your progress. These tests are described in highly technical language, though it's your doctor that actually needs to understand them.

When I heard about Haylie Pomroy's new book Fast Metabolism Food RX was coming out I knew I had to get it. You see when I followed her first book, Fast Metabolism Diet, I lost 70 pounds in 5 months. I first heard about Haylie Pomroy on Dr. Oz, in 2013. She has been the miracle that I knew was out there. As someone who has been dieting her whole life, this plan was so easy and amazing. Haylie's newest book Food RX goes over the most common ailments most people suffer today. They are GI stress, fatigue, hormones, mood cholestrol, diabetes, autoimmunity, mood and cognition difficulties. Haylie shows us how are bodies are talking to us, and what to do about through food. Food is medicine. She has prescription, for each one of these aliments. She gives you specific food lists to follow, and she has recipes also that are so delcious. I was most touched by Haylie's honest, emotional, describition she faced herself early on in her career and how food help her to overcome those challenges.

I've been following Haylie Pomroy for almost 3 years, learning how to eat properly to lose weight through her "Fast Metabolism Diet". It was with huge excitement that I received this book, as I've struggled with fatigue for many years. Haylie takes you through the science behind what is happening with your body and, more importantly, how to correct the problems that many of us have - GI stress, fatigue, hormonal issues, mood swings, cholesterol issues, diabetes, and autoimmunity problems. As our bodies become more and more stressed by eating pre-packaged foods with tons of "ingredients" that many of us can't even pronounce, it makes sense to eat whole foods to combat those problems.
I haven't started the fatigue program yet, but plan on starting this coming Monday. I can't wait to feel better! Haylie hasn't steered me wrong yet, so I trust these food "prescriptions" wholeheartedly!

She is really down to earth and comes across as a person who genuinely wants you to heal your body through food, rather than be dependent on prescription drugs that have horrible side effects, some we don't even know are happening to our body. And she knows you can do it because she has and she has helped so many others.

Very, very basic, I would say the targeted audience are people who do not eat healthy, and don't know much about what is happening in their bodies. If you have no idea what metabolic process is or how hormones work, etc, this is a decent, easily understandable primer. If one, however, knows all that already, the only point of interest in the book is the list of foods one should eat. But if you eat healthy and clean, then you are left wondering whether you are already healing/repairing your body and most of all, HOW exactly these foods help.
For example, in the section for hormone repair, chapter 7, the author talks about stimulating the pathways that metabolize fat -- except that the paragraph doesn't even go into HOW to do that. It is just general description of what extra fat does in your body and how it interferes with the hormones. The next # is "support pregnenolone", and it is a very broad, general description of cholesterol. I, personally, already know what pregnenolone and cholesterol do, what I need to understand is HOW the foods she recommends support and influence this hormone. And it gets even more frustrating. The vit. D section talks about "wash receptor sites and clean out all the gunk" without even mentioning the HOW. I am extremely interested in finding how to detox from the gunk, whatever that may be, except...she doesn't say. I think you get the gist. The author recommends folks to check their vit. D levels, but doesn't mention any specific tests (25(OH)D vs 1,25(OH)₂D) she recommends or levels.
Going on to the Rx portion, it became even more frustrating to read, as apparently one has to adhere to the "style and food categories" in the Rx. What does that even mean?
It is pretty much the same for the rest of the "illnesses" addressed in the book. A lot of the same, repeated over and over again. The last annoying thing was on the final page of the book -- an offer for a "free 7 day trial" of her members only site, except that there is nowhere on her site to activate the offer.

FANTASTIC book! Health and eating simplified down to a science. I love how Haylie explains what is going on in the body and then shares seven different eating plans to help heal different conditions that so many of us suffer from (i.e., GI problems, fatigue). She provides a questionnaire to help you determine which of the seven conditions you are affected by the most, to help you chose which eating plan to follow. And each plan has 20 power foods . . . when I eat these, I feel like I am doing something good for myself, for my body . . . for my health!!!

Haylie Pomroy is a wealth of life changing information. I truly believe that she cares about everyone and wants us to being living in our healthiest state. Her first book changed my life in so many ways. I then began sharing what I learned from it and she then changed the lives of my family and friends. I just finished reading her Fast Metabolism Food Rx book and will incorporate more foods into my already amazing eating lifestyle.
I've been dealing with hot flashes and refuse to do HRT. I will however, incorporate the foods she's prescribed and I'm certain they will resolve my issues just as she's helped me in the past. I can't wait to share the knowledge I gained from reading this book with my son-in-law who's just been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I'm certain one month on Haylie's diabetes food Rx, and he'll turn his condition around.
If you are living with any of the 7 conditions outlined in this book (issues with GI, Stress, Fatigue, Hormones, Mood Disorders, Cholesterol, Diabetes and Autoimmune), I urge you to read this book. What do you have to lose? You have everything to gain. Buy the book and give Haylie a chance to reverse your health condition. She states for every year you've lived with your condition, it will take that many month's to turn it around. That's AWESOME! Interesting read but it was quite scientific and I tended to just skip to the sections that applied to me. There is a list of foods to use in my eating plan and a few recipes and I tried to stick to the plan for a few weeks, but found that I got bored eating nuts, beans and vegetables and salad as I am vegetarian. I work full time and have not got the time to be stood in the kitchen preparing recipes with loads of ingredients. I wasn't allowed to eat tomatoes on 5 days of my plan (balancing out hormones) so making quick stews and curries without them is pretty difficult. I very much advocate eating non processed foods but to be honest I found the plans too restrictive for me personally. No dairy, no wheat, no fruit on most days, no complex carbs on most days. If you are looking to lose weight and stick to the plan, it would work because of the low calorie count by cutting out the aforementioned foods. I found I was eating eggs and mushrooms for breakfast, cucumber sticks, avocado or nuts as a snack and then plain veggies/salad with beans for main meals - I simply got bored and realised that it was not sustainable.

I discovered Haylie Pomroy almost a year ago through her Fast Metabolism Diet, where I lost 30 lbs and have kept it off. I was excited to read this new book because I love Haylie's approach to food. Her idea of DIET (Did I Eat Today?) is so radical! She WANTS you to eat good food. She wants you to fall in love with food, to embrace it, to use it to fuel your body to do what it needs. And then she gives you 'prescriptions' - plans to follow to help your body heal itself from low energy, high lipid profiles, even autoimmune disease. Her answer is never to eat less, but to eat more of the things that will allow your body to use nutrients to be the best it can be. Thanks to Haylie, I am approaching food not as the enemy, but as a friend who can help me with what I need to achieve.

Excellent Book! I discovered Haylie Pomroy last year and read her book Fast Metabolism from cover to cover. WOW. I lost 14lbs!! Never before had a diet worked so efficiently. I began reading everything I could that she wrote and read Fast Metabolism RX the minute I could get my hands on it. I took the quiz and I'm currently following the Diabetes plan. I love the power food lists, great food plans and the recipes. I love healing my body with food! This book is easy to read, informative and you feel as though she is speaking directly to you. I can't say enough good things about the book. If you are curious about this book there is a reason, listen to your body. Especially your gut. Heal yourself today!

Fast Metabolism Food Rx by Haylie Pomroy grabs your attention right away! Just look at the cover (here it is again). Bold letters. The title speaks for itself, but it's the subscript of "7 Powerful prescriptions to feed your body back to health", and then underneath lists a few health issues that it targets. The more I read about food and diet, the more I'm convinced how food is one of the major culprits to declining health or any health issues. And this book, speaks towards that belief.
I'm not familiar with Haylie, but after reading her introduction, I am fairly certain she knows what she's talking about. Having had multiple genetic and environmental health issues, she understands what it means when your body is not what it's meant to be - healthy and vibrant. This book is about your body and what it craves, what it desires and what will make it happy - the right food. In Fast Metabolism Food Rx, she provides strategies to help your body achieve the goal of happiness - health. Her strategies are backed with lots of notes and references from medical professionals and published research. It includes charts and lists to help you understand and plan a "repair attack". For example, there's a meal plan for blood sugar repair for 7 days on page 211. I personally love the appendix list that combines a lot of the lists throughout the book, and I go back to it constantly to check on that food group.
In all, a great resource for anyone, healthy or with some health issues.

Excellent book that provides not only insight from Haylie's own life in regards to overcoming illness & health issues, but also provides detailed information on helping you discover and target your own personal health area that needs healing! I really appreciate the attention to the individual plans. By taking Haylie's quiz (provided within the book), I know that energy is the area of my life that needs a Rx for healing....and that healing and restoration can take place through the foods I eat. Personally, I like this book better than Fast Metabolism Diet, because it's easier for me to see this as a lifestyle change and Food Rx doesn't have as rigid of requirements that Fast Metabolism Diet has.

Hayley Pomroy believes all conditions begin in the gut. If your body is unable to extract nutrients as in leaky gut/malabsorption, the resulting imbalance may lead to disease. In this book, there are questionnaires designed to isolate various conditions and there are food combinations plus meal maps designed to return your body to an optimum state. For me, it means I can make peace with my food and work with my body to heal. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL GET THIS BOOK ASAP!!!!

I have been following Haylie since 2014 when I first found the Fast Metabolism Diet. I lost all my baby weight in 3 months on her plan so naturally when she provides more information I want to read all about it! I love seeing a book that is not about a "diet" but about using food as medicine. These plans have changed my health for the better. I went from having Metabolic Syndrome and high cholesterol to bring perfectly healthy. I just read this book and have not tried the plans yet but Haylie is my nutritionist now and I trust in her knowledge. I can't wait to put this into action!

Fast Metabolism Food Rx is the the 4th book written by Haylie Pomroy. This book focuses on health challenges that are so common today: fatigue, auto immune disorders, High cholesterol, mood swings, diabetes, GI issues, and hormone issues. Most doctors want to treat these health issues with drugs. Haylie shows us how to treat health challenges with food. She provides a health assessment in the book that will tell you which issue is affecting you the most and provides a meal plan, top 20 foods to incorporate in your diet along with recipes. Almost all of us have one or more of these health challenges. I bought the audio version as Haylie reads the book herself. It's like having her as your personal coach. I can't say enough about this book. I haven't been this excited about a book in ages. Get your copy today and buy one for a friend or family member you love.

Haylie's book The Fast Metabolism Diet book literally changed my life and way of eating so I couldn't wait to read this new release! As a nurse, I love find healthy, solid information about how to improve our health and this book did not disappoint. We have relied for too long on big drug companies to improve our health, when in truth, they are only masking symptoms. Haylie shows us how to address the root causes of our health problems through healthy nutrition. Even if you don't have health problems, this book gives step by step eating plans for better health and quality of life. You must read this book!

Haylie Pomroy does it again! This book is well written and easy to follow. Many times throughout the book it felt like she was talking directly to me. In her first book, The Fast Metabolism Diet, she shared her knowledge of how to use food to heal the metabolism. In this book, Fast Metabolism Food RX, she shares her knowledge of how food can help to heal the body and which foods are best for each area of the body that needs healing - not just the metabolism. I can't wait to start implementing RX's from this book into my FMD!!!!

This book goes into detail on many issues, a few that I was interested in personally, were the chapters on autoimmune problems and the gut issues. These were discussed thoroughly.
I really liked that the author gives you the types of foods you need to eat and even lists a few recipes. The author also gives you great examples for snacks.
I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this book. I plan on implementing several things I learned from this book.

Haylie Pomroy (New York Times Best Selling Author) grew up with a number of physical ailments which became a real challenge to her. Not wanting to live her entire life on prescription drugs she took a nose dive into researching and learning. What she found out could put a damper on many doctor's businesses. It is not by chance that she is a well known nutritionist today. She has discovered the remedy to most illnesses is what we eat. She even prescribes food to her clients.

Fast Metabolism Food Rx is all about repairing your metabolic pathways, using food as medicine and listening to your own body. As the author says (paraphrased), what good is eating certain foods if you can’t metabolize them properly or absorb the nutrients from them?
She first goes into what is real health and what is metabolism.
The real key to health is to be able to empower the body and purposefully manipulate what your unique body does with the particular foods you eat. (page 17)
Ms. Pomroy does include ideas for exercise and environment but believes that we are “most powerfully controlled by your food choices”, (page 17) and that, “to effect any kind of metabolic change…you have to change what you are doing.” (page 17)
Metabolism is the big-picture process of how your body takes things in and transforms them for energy, rebuilding, and repairing. (page 22)
When you change your metabolism, you can potentially change almost anything about how your body works. (page 22)
You essentially have to buy-in to this author’s theory of how illness and disease happen and to how to reverse it.
An imbalance in metabolic pathways is at the crux of all chronic disease. (page 29)
In most cases, outside of surgery: Food is the only way to repair chronic disease. (page 30)
The author then goes on to give you an introductory symptom quiz to see what your body is telling you. (pages 44-45) And there is a much more detailed quiz in the back of the book to help you determine which chapter’s “prescription” you should do first. (pages 245-248)

Ms. Pomroy came to my attention when she appeared on Dr. Oz. When I saw her book I remembered her and decided it would be interesting to see what she thought about food and losing weight. She discusses how some foods lead to health issues and how to avoid this. She lists easy to follow diet plans and provides great easy recipes to help people lose weight. I have been on a "kick" and have been reading different health books. Well some of the information is the same, but I did learn more from Ms. Pomroy on how what we eat can lead to chronic health issues. I recommend this book to anyone is struggling to lose weight or to live the healthiest life possible.

This book was filled with so much information and the content was so thorough, I read it in slabs of time. Usually, I would read a chapter in the early mornings after my quiet time routine. I felt I was learning from start to finish and it was almost like having a course in health without the classes!
There are lots of questions in the first several pages to help the reader learn where he/she is health wise. From there, Haylie Pomroy gives great insight on metabolism from the simplicity of it being what your body does with the food you eat to and through metabolic pathways. Don't worry - if some of that sounds as big to you as it did to me... explanations are rich and resplendent for each and every topic shared.
Fast Metabolism Food RX takes you through a checklist to see what your body is telling you. This helps one figure out the best healing path to take.
Along with an amazing amount of sound teaching are recipes I am really looking forward to trying. I think my firsts will be: Green Smoothie, Slow Turkey Chili (for my husband and son and I will substitute turkey with mushrooms!) and Vegetarian Bean Soup.
This book really supercharged me and I was ready to dive back into healthy eating before I finished reading!

Fast Metabolism RX was an interesting read. Pomroy approaches food choices from a prescription point of view in order to address a variety of chronic health concerns. She strongly advocates the importance of cooking your meals at home and staying away from processed foods. This book will definitely make you think more critically about your own daily food choices.
