This precious book is both illustrated beautifully and attractively. My 18 month old loves to look at the pictures of the "baby" on each page. She picks out the eyes, nose, mouth and the various objects from nature (flowers, etc.). The message this book tells about God is realistic and very loving. I wish I had this book for my older child!

My son and I enjoy the illustrations in this book but the sentence structure is weird. It doesn't flow well and is sort of tongue twisting when reading in the dim lights of our evening story time ritual. My son loves the first illustration and always says, "God is Great" when I open the book.

The very best Golden Book ever published. It can be valued, enjoyed, and shared with children and adults of all faiths and religions! The simplicity is it's strength. It gives the Essence of spirituality through the eyes of a child. The art is beautiful. A reminder to adults of the simplicity of Truth.
I buy this book as a gift for all the baby showers I attend. It's a memorable keepsake!

I remember loving this book as a child. I recently gave it to my neice's new baby on her baptism day. It now pictures a few pages with more ethnically diverse children than the original version. The sweet and simple message of God in nature and all around us is the basic message. Still love it.

My children are drawn to the illustrations and love the story. The illustrated children's eyes are hauntingly beautiful as they explore God's world created for them. It is a sweet, soft story that introduces children to God's creation and His love for them for all eternity. Rather large, complex theological points are made simple for children.

I only didn't give it five stars because when reading out loud I tend to fumble a bit. The prose appears to want to be rhyming, but the layout doesn't allow for it, so when you read it out loud you just can't get a rhythm going, and so you end up stumbling a bit. The edition I have is from 2002 with a copyright of 1984, so perhaps the graphic layout was changed from the original.

I remember loving this book as a child despite not being very "churchy." It was such a pretty little book and the message was very simple and sweet, I think it is a nice book even for non-christians as it really has a very humanist message about respect and love and nature and everything being connected and such. Could really be explained to fit any religion/world-view. Love the diversity in the newer edition and despite what some have said about the children looking "creepy" and too fakey/wide-eyed/etc I think it is beautifully illustrated.

"My Little Golden Book About God" was a little above my preschooler's head. Many pages were written in words my child could understand (i.e "God Is Great" and "God gives us everything we need"). The vast majority of the book, though, is written in such a way that I had a difficult time reading it to my daughter in a way she could comprehend. Long (almost run-on) sentences frequented the writing style of the author. I, as an adult, enjoyed this book, but would not recommend it for a child younger than about 8. Search a little more. There are some wonderful "Books about God" out there for young children.

Truth in advertising, what more could you ask for? My Little Book About God is indeed little, and avoids taking any particular dogmatic approach. God is not described as an old man in the sky, nor are any particular religions held to be true to the detriment of others. Simply put, God is presented as great and loving, no more. Comparisons between the child's world and God's make these points explicit. Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, Zoraster, Joseph Smith and the like never make so much as a cameo, and on this basis perhaps some will find the book too bland. But after all, it isn't My Little Book About How My Religion Is Right and Yours Isn't And You Are Going To Burn For All Eternity Because You Are An Infidel. Certainly devout atheists will find the book objectionable, but there is even room for secular humanists (God might literally be Love, and not a separate, intelligent presence at all) in in this approach. Hopefully most will find it a message of tolerance and love from which their children will benefit--two qualities that are far too rare in today's troubled times.

I enjoyed the Golden Books as child, 66 years ago and am happy they're still around for my great-grandchildren. They are just right for little hands. I remember some of the pictures to this day. I'm looking for a Nursery Rhyme Songbook. I can't recall the cover of the book but I remember many of the pages. The first page was "Lavender's Blue Dilly-Dilly" and the top of the next page was "London Bridge" I think the next page was "Where Have You been Billy Boy?" I thought the children in the pictures wore such pretty clothes. My mother, who is now deceased, sang these songs to my sister and me and I've sung them to my 10 grandchildren. Would like to have the book. My 9 month old great-granddaughter's favorite is "Are You Sleeping?" It was on a left hand page and "Row, Row,Row Your Boat" was right above it. Thank you if you can direct me to that speial beloved book.

This book was first published in 1956. I was born in 1956 and I had this book as a child. I spent endless hours looking at the pictures before I could read. When I did learn to read, I enjoyed the book very much. I did not grow up in a religious family, and the concept of god that was presented in this book was gentle and, as I look back on it, profound. In particular, I loved how god was presented as being present in every aspect of our lives, from rain, to insects, to our parents' love.

I recently ordered a used copy of the book for research I am doing. The used copy is dated 1984. I was disappointed to see that some of my fond pictures were replaced in this edition with what I can only assume are "politically correct" pictures of African American children.

These new pictures are jarring because they don't fit stylistically with the earlier drawings. And, of course, I was disappointed that some of my favorite illustrations were missing. If you are buying the book based on your early memories of it, do the research and make sure you are getting the original illustrations.

I like Little Golden Books. Their books are made well and are very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, I have some issues with this book which will probably be an issue for some people. If you are a deist, you will probably like the God described in this book. The God found here created the universe over the course of millions or billions of years and is seen by observing the natural world alone. There is no mention of Jesus, the Bible or any supernatural event in this book. Yes, in this book you will find that God is described as great, good, love and providing all that we need, but He is not just there when we think of Him. He is everywhere. We are unable to truly love others apart from Christ. The author of this book, Jane Werner Watson, believes otherwise. What we have in My Little Golden Book About God is a safe god that is created to appeal to the masses. The book ends with God telling a child that tomorrow will be bright. Although we hope that all of our days will be bright, we know that is not always the case. James 4:14 tells us that we do not know what tomorrow will bring. I do not want to read stories to my girls that scare them and cause them to worry, but I do want to teach them the Truth.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction." Proverbs 1:7

Vague genuflections to things in nature like inertia, plate tectonics, species diversity, internal morality and crediting these to God does not make a book about God anymore than saying these are caused by fairies would make a book about fairies.

At times they seem to try to be too scientific when the purpose of the book is to indoctrinate kids into this myth. They need to keep it simpler.

Some of the pictures are downright creepy. The little girl being given tea looks like a zombie, and the lack of pupils in some pictures are offputting. Some of the messages are a little odd like those stars are millions of miles away when the closest of them is, I suppose, 25,000 million miles away, and the suggestion of mountains decaying strongly suggests that all mountains just decay and glosses over most plate tectonics when it shouldn't even bring it up.
