plenty of well thought excercises, but for those with less than perfect eyesight, reading them can be a strain. producing the
book in music size would be an advantage, but not with the 'dummies' format of compact reading. one could enlarge on the
office copier if that is a problem. otherwise excellent .

Another great book from the '..For Dummies' series. "Bass Guitar for Dummies" is a great book for beginning bassists to advanced bassists. I could see Victor Wooten himself reading this book! It is very easy to understand and the writer explains everything in a simple and fun way, often using funny puns and corny jokes (but I like that sort of thing). The best thing for me is that he explained just about every scale and style of music for the bass. He even included how to write your own bass fills! Another good aspect is the cheat sheet at the beginning of this book. It is a preferated page that you can easily tear out that includes: scale triads, all main scales (major, minor, pent, dim, etc) the order of notes, solo scales (blues, pent, etc) and some easy hand workouts. He even included Gospel Bass into this wonderful book, something I've been Googling to learn how to play and nothing ever came up! If you are a bassist, you NEED to get this book!

The book itself is great but with the kindle version you only get the text, there are no music tracks embedded in the kindle file and you can't access the songs any other way. This makes the kindle version a massive fail IMHO.

REVISED: For some reason the store and Wiley make finding the supplemental music files really difficult to find. The link is hidden away in the copyright information in location 19 of the kindle file. Basically you go to booksupport . wiley . com (remove spaces) and from there, you enter the name of the book to find the downloadable music files.
Ideally the music files should just be embedded in the Kindle file itself. That's how it's done with some other e-books I have and it makes it MUCH easier.
I've revised my rating up to 3 stars as the music files should be located within the e-book, so you can just click on the examples to play, rather than forcing us to go find the mp3 file.

I like this author and was looking forward to this book, however, the examples are written as to be almost unreadable (tiny, tiny, tiny), definately a book that cannot be placed on a music stand and read with ease. I showed this to my girlfriend, (who is an editor) she could not believe this made it past the editor. What a shame.

Great book. It is something that most anybody can read and learn from. It has helped me learn an instrument that I was interested in learning and can now play. The bass is a great instrument and this this book can help you enjoy it too.

I really enjoyed the amount of information for a beginning bass guitar player like myself. I think the scales and different licks for the varied styles is a great starting point to build on for the future. Enjoyed it (and will continue to enjoy)!

This book lays everything out in a very friendly, well paced, easily digestible way. It cleared away all my fears about learning how to play the bass, read music, etc. I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't know how to take the plunge.

Unfortunately returned it as the music notation (tabs included) are formated as small images that don't zoom out enough.
Also- the kindle version doesn't include the accompanying audio tracks (not even mp3s). The missing audio tracks are referenced extensively in the book.
Note to music publishers: don't leave the audio content out of ebook formats!
I plan on buying the paper version of this to get the audio, and for readable musical notation.
Content: I look forward to digging into the exercises once I have a readable version.
Seems like a great focus on fundamentals (learning different modes and interval patterns) and then linking them into different rhythms and on to song styles.
Looking forward to using this book to set up a smarter regular practice habit.
