Time travel, as a plot device, can either be
charming or contrived....
This series integrates it flawlessly.
And melds it in with teen anxiety amidst
the social pressures of an otherwise routine
modern day high school existence.
Inquiring and delightful reading !

This is such a sweet story. I started reading this as a review for my 11 year old and quickly fell into a book lust with it :-) It is neatly written, creative, thorough in world building and character development, and does not leave you wondering "but how or why" etc. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and was so pleased that while it is written for a much younger audience, it was not so much so that an older audience would feel silly for reading it.

Clockwise is a perfect read for all ages! The perfect mix of adventure and romance with a little drama in the mix. Lots of twists and turns will keep you on your toes! I can't wait to read where this story will go!

Casey Donovan has issues: hair, height and uncontrollable trips to the 19th century! And now this --she's accidentally taken Nate Mackenzie, the cutest boy in the school, back in time. Awkward.
Protocol pressures her to tell their 1860 hosts that he is her brother and when Casey finds she has a handsome, wealthy (and unwanted) suitor, something changes in Nate. Are those romantic sparks or is it just "brotherly" protectiveness?
I TRULY ENJOYED READING THIS BOOK AND IMMEDIATELY DOWNLOADED THE OTHERS IN THE SERIES. I am letting my daughter read it next. It is entertaining and not too "grown up" for her. This story was relatable for the YA reader, but I'm 41 and loved it too!
I LOVED THIS BOOK,,,,and will continue to follow this author.

Casey seems like us. One best friend, a major out of her league crush and a minor social status. Oh, and she can time travel, yet not so normal anymore. She can back to the eighteen hundreds. Yea problem is this time she took her out of league crush, Nate. Yikes! How can she keep her secret, a secret, when she's also falling for him. Wow and we thought our lives were hard. She needs to keep her secret but what if she falls for him. This will entertain anyone who loves syfy romance. Don't miss this series.

An adventure of time travel with a strong heroine is the best description for this novel. With a well woven/layered plot and lovable characters Elle Strauss's Clockwise is a MUST read. Well thought out and well written especially for being a free kindle book. Inventive and surprising plot twists will have you asking what happens in the second book. Recommended for 11-16 year olds. 4 stars.

it was okay (light years better than a time travel book by someone else i recently tried to read)
i think i'll try to read the next one. i should know pretty quickly whether this is as good as it gets or if some of my issues with the first one will start being dealt with (the characters aren't fully fleshed out yet and the "why" is still a huge mystery. )

A fresh time travel story that leaves you thinking that could happen. I enjoyed all three but made a mistake buying the novella which is just a repeat of the books. I was surprised by the third book and who the main character is. Since I love historical fiction a little fantasy and some romance these books were a good read for me.

At first I just groaned at the sickly sweet teenage crush stuff, not another one....but there was actually a great plot in this story as well as some historical trivia. I ended up liking this book as well as the plucky heroine....at least when she was anywhere but the present. The Gorgeous
Nate was too much but over all it was a fun book.

I really liked this first story... Managed to read it twice separated by quite some time, yet it still held my interest! Now onto the second! I do appreciate Ms Strauss' clean literary style... No foul language or unnecessary immorality. Thank you for that. I also liked her view of time travel... Similar to my way of thinking in my the store Kindle book, Time Trippers.

This was well written with believable characters, teen romance, and a few surprising turns. As crazy as Casey's life was I love how she took it all in stride and just accepted her situation, doing her best to lead a "normal" double-life. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun and addicting read. I can't wait to read "Clocked" to see the story from Nate's point of view.

Time travel and love? What else could you want to read about on a lazy afternoon. I really liked this book, it was a fun quick read.I liked all the characters ( except Jessica) and felt I got to know them, which is hard when they all aren't from the same time period, so not always "around". Buy the book if you want something light and a non thinker. No stress reading here and totally enjoyable. Also, for .99 you cant go wrong.

I like time travel. I like thinking about the paradoxes. This book seems to deal with them in a manner I would find logical (if you can say that about time travel!). We still don't know WHY some people Travel, but the book doesn't deal with that, nor does it need to resolve that particular issue. It's a nice, clean, teen love-story.

Casey Donovan is a time traveler. She doesn't skip a second in the present, but she spends days in the past. Only her best friend, Lucinda, knows that when Casey returns to the present with raccoon-like circles under her eyes she's been "tripping". Casey's time loop always brings her to the same place: a forest in the Boston area in the 1800's. Casey masquerades as a boy, since it wasn't common for women to travel alone at the time. This isn't hard to do when she's tall and gangly. Nearby is a family that Casey stays with, and in return she helps them around their farm. When someone, another young lady, voices her suspicions Casey begins dressing like a girl, which attracts the wrong kind of attention.
Casey's secret is fascinating, but she might as well be invisible at school, where she's a nobody. She has frizzy hair, knobby knees, and no social status. She's admired popular jock Nate from afar, but it's doubtful that he'll ever notice her. He has a beautiful, mean girl girlfriend. But then, on a dare from his friends, he asks Casey to dance. The skin on skin contact and Casey's escalating emotions transports both of them to the 19th century. She's just tripped with her crush! This is the first time she's taken someone with her to the past.
The setup in the beginning with Casey tripping to the 19th century was interesting, but then things became even more riveting when Nate tripped with her. They witness the beginning of the Civil War, help a runaway slave, and explore newfound feelings for each other. The historical time era was written realistically. Serious moments were balanced with romance and humor. The voice in this suspenseful novel was great. Engaged from the start, by the time I hit the last half of the book I couldn't put it down. I look forward to the sequel that came out this year, CLOCKWISER.

Loved the premise ~ and the proofreading was mostly good [although I cannot fathom how 'cacoon' made it past the proofreaders *and* the spell-check software ~~~ ????] so I'm giving it all 5 stars. I love YA fiction ~ it's not just for kids!!! I will read another!

I am very fascinated with time travel. This author gave one of the most interesting plots on time travelling. Great story line with sweet love and believable characters! I gave it a 5 Star because it is acceptable reading material for any age group plus it is well written. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Lots of excitement with a young girl who is forced to live her life in two time periods while trying to get through all the angst normally brought along with teens. Wonderful character building. Readers will totally identify with this young lady who seems to have it together better than she thinks she loved the read. Will definitely recommend to the upper level readers at our elementary school.

This was a cute and enjoyable story. While it was a little predictable, that didn't hinder my enjoyment much at all. I'm curious to see what future books in this series bring. I'd recommend this to fans of time-travel.

I give this book, Clockwise by Elle Strauss 5 stars. This is one great story. I love the time travel into the past, the characters, and the romantic love story between Casey and Nate. TTathe time period when the Cival War begins and the Watson family are so interesting.
Casey's knowledge of Americann History is definetly helpful to her in
her travels and I've even learned things I wasn't aware of. I love the
author's style of writing. Would recommend this book to anyone who
enjoys romance and time travel.

I really, really, really enjoyed these books - got all 3 via Kindle - If you find timeline stories interesting, and enjoy reading a book that requires a storyline (rather than sex and violence) - I can highly recommend these books.

I found Clockwise very much a mixed bag. I thought that the story started off quite slow, and even though within minutes of reading you are traveling back in time, it just seemed forced. I also had some issues with the tone of the writing at the beginning. I know this is a YA book, but at the beginning it felt young written, and cheesy. To be honest I nearly gave up, thinking "I'm too old for this book".
However, somewhere around the point where Casey returns from the past with Nate (around a third of the way through) I suddenly found myself enjoying the story, liking the writing, and being intrigued with what will happen next. Casey was a very likable girl (maybe a little too likable?), who had such an interesting life jumping between times, and it was impossible not to like her. Nate is an interesting character, who takes a while to come around to the bizarre, which is a nice change from characters just embracing it. The two settings were great, and you did get a feel for the 1860's. The author did a good job of setting the scene for all the time periods, and making it clear which one you were in. I also thought it was great the issues that the author wanted to explore with these two time periods.
This is a very clean book, no swearing, no sex, no vulgarity, and there are clear messages about how people should be treated. I did like this, it's a nice change. However, I have to say it times the messages about racism felt a little forced, and as much as I would like to say that Casey's view on racism in our time is true, it is not (if only). For this reason it again made me feel like I was reading a younger persons book, rather than challenging our own times and how people are still being treated.
I deliberated about what I would rate Clockwise because, if I was rating this book on the last two thirds it would be 4 stars, but rating on the first third I would only give it 2. Therefore I settled on 3. Do I recommend that you read it? If you are actually a teenager, I think you would love this book, as an adult who loves YA, you would probably enjoy it still, I did, but just take into consideration, I felt the writing was young.
Will I read again? Probably not (maybe the second half)
Would I recommend? Sure

This story by Elle Strauss was amazing. I find she is a great author and I can't wait to read the rest of her books. I definitely encourage people to read them.
You see Casey is just an average girl, one that is super tall and very shy when it comes to boys...especially her very hot crush Nate. That is what I like about it, she is not super hot babe always getting her way, no, she is someone real, and Nate falls for her because of that. I guess you could say I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff though! Ha, anyway I LOVED THIS SERIES AND I STRONGLY RECOMMEND IT!! It is a great read.

Please RateVolume 1, Clockwise: The Clockwise Collection
I did like the author researched the past (some reviewers have already pointed out how life was for a teen in the Civil War.) I also liked how the span of time in book one was a school year and it was realistic for relationships to form.
I would be interested to see if Elle Strauss addresses in the rest of the series why Casey is taken back to the same period of time. I already have the next one on my wish list for when I have extra money.
Notes:
I did download Clockwise when it was offered by the store for free. Great deal, thanks the store! Also, I did have issues with format but it is the way Kindle formatted - not the author. I know because I have had the same issue with other books.
