Very readable, revealing, and applicable to the times we live in. I loved "What's So Amazing About Grace?", and thought "Vanishing Grace" was just as valuable. Yancey writes in a style that flows as it reveals.

'Vanishing Grace' is another engaging, insightful work of Philip Yancey and critically needed in our post-Christian world, especially in the midst of the sad perception of "evangelicals" in the west. Yancey does it like a true subversive artist that he speaks of, using stories and ideas to draw us through the "dark tunnel" to see the greater picture. A picture of Christians as "good news" - simple, different, love in filling, transforming good news.

I liked this book. Yancey challenges me to put my faith into action, to not try to play it safe. But he also encourages the reader with stories of believers who acted with Christ-like compassion and made a difference. I would like to read this book again.

There are few people who have written about Gods Grace in the measure that Philip Yancy does...and communicates in his books. He has a wonderfully infectious way of grabbing the readers attention from the minute he (she) opens it. Vanishing Grace picks up the theme from How Amazing is Grace, in which Philip introduced many readers to this topic many years ago, and is one of Philips best books to date. Thoroughly recommended.

As a Presbyterian pastor I have been enriched by the books and articles of Philip Yancey. He is a prolific Christian author whose audience is mainly made up of evangelical Christian believers. In this new work the author exhorts us to:
a. Many of us may become active in helping the poor, hungry and sick on our city streets or third world nations. We show the gospel through our
humble love for others who are thirsty for God's love.
b. We reject gloom and doom making people feel guilty and discarded by the faith community found in the church. All are welcome at the table of Jesus Christ.
c. Through painting, sculpture, music and literature many artists have opened the eyes of their audience to the amazing grace of Christ.
Even in a secular age such as ours the author states that the grace of Jesus is available to all people. Our job as Christians is to share the gospel in a loving, nonthreatening way. Our task is to provide water for the thirsty who are seeking the streams of God or just lost on the highway of life.
This book has made me think about the gospel and grow in my own faith.Excellent!

Another great book by Philip Yancy. He has such a way of articulating truths that I think the church needs to hear. We are using the workbook in our small group at church but think the book is very helpful to read as well.

Honest straight forward look why the United States has evolved into a "post-Christian" era and how Christians can change it. Not by enforcing political might but by following the teachings and examples of Christ serving the needs of those around us. Methodical analysis of historical and current events worldwide and the effect Christianity has had on them. The reader’s outlook on the forces that shape our lives will be positively changed.

Excellent book. Philip takes a realistic view of what he refers to as post-Christian society, how we got there, what doesn't work in reaching out, and what may be a better approach. Pretty heavy at times, but nevertheless optimistic in the end.

This was a very interesting read. Philip Yancy writes in a manner that lets the reader into his thinking space and articulates thoughts and questions that I pondered but could not have put into words! If you are a person who wonders, Philip Yancy books are for you!

Pro found insight into the psyche we are all born with but more often than not, choose to ignore. As with all his other writings, I was deeply moved by his ability to get to the very "heart" of the matter. Highly recommended to all who are looking for "something" beyond narrow minded thinking. I revisit Philip Yancey's books regularly.

This is a beautiful book... reminding us that the Christian way of influencing our world is as lovers not as moral enforcers. This book could change the whole clash of cultures conversation if we're still capable of listening.

I certainly appreciated the challenge Yancey gave me to be a respectful, grace filled Christian before those whose lifestyle one knows is not Godly. How else will those folks see compassion and care from those of us to who followers of Christ?

Yancey always makes me think about my walk with God. How I am not the only person that struggles with my faith.
The good news is that I always feel like it's ok & God understands my struggles.

I found the book very interesting and Yancey writes extremely well. However, it was not as good as some of his other books. The arguments were slightly less convincing and less inspiring. He was trying too hard to drive a point home.
