Another great tale from Ms Jance about her original detective, J P Beaumont. He is retired now and his wife has a more than full-time job, so he's feeling a little at loose ends. Never fear, that doesn't last long and he is soon looking into the death of his one-time nemesis. Definitely recommended.

I enjoyed this book for the most part, especially the interaction between Beaumont and Lucy (I prefer Rambo). Wolfhounds are huge, beautiful dogs, and their size and personalities are well-described. I also enjoyed the murder mystery; while not necessarily heart-pounding, it was creative and kept my interest throughout. I dropped a star because either the author or her publishing house decided to be PC, and throw in several gay characters. In Seattle, the current population is ~715K. With the LGBT-et al community equaling a max of 7% country-wide, they should have ~50K gays. That does NOT warrant 3 gays out of a dozen characters, especially when it has ZERO relevance to the story. While I don't care a whit about whether or not someone's gay, I really HATE having it shoved down my throat solely because it's "in". Shame on Jance for capitulating.
