If you want to read this person books I suggest you wait till they are free. Her first book that I read was great and I thought I was being a good fan by supporting her work even after I realize she has no good plot line to any of her stories or characters worth reading. Her Characters are life less and the women in the books seem to have no life to them or ideas of what they are doing. You literally drag through every chapter of her books. The books tend to jump all over, they don't seem to stay focus almost as if this author has no real idea of what her plot line is about. Its like this story was written by a high schooler and not someone who was a professional. I notice and i stop supporting her work. I wish you good luck reading her work, but I now regret buying these books and wasting my money, hope you don't make the same mistake. But its up to you, if you want to buy her work but I wish you luck reading it. Also to any of her fans, that is going to Harass me, this is the store, and on here price does have something to do with a review. Many people want to know if buying something is worth it. These books are not worth it

Loved the spinoff to The big bad wolf series. I didn't want that series to end as I loved those books as well. Heather is such a wonderful storyteller and comes up with unbelievable characters. This book did not disappoint! Keep them coming Heather!

I love the way this author writes. This was the first book of hers I have ever read. I now plan to read everything she has written while I anxiously await the Vampire King, book 2. I literally could not put my Kindle down.

A very easy and exciting read. Since I tend to do a lot of technical reading, it's great to every once in a while pick up a book where you can simply get lost in the story and this is one of those. Very enjoyable.

I gave this book 3 stars because:The story make you fell like you should have read other books. To me this is not a new series but a continuation of her other books just focusing on king of each kind.Like other have stated the story repeats a lot and the same thing is retold by other in the story. The hero and heroine never fall in love there is no time. The timeline takes place in 4 days I mean 4 days for Roman and 1 1/2 days for Evie. Roman the hero had been dreaming about Evie the heroine for months but he only saw her eyes. From the time he first saves her until he make her his queen and says she is the love of his life it was less than 48 hours. The author had to many thing going on in the story. To many people she was trying to add or talk about that didn't involve to roman and Evie and that could have been a epilogue.Because of this find out how their love would have grow and how the fell in got put to the back.
I personally could not get in this story.Roman was suppose to be the king of vampires the baddest of the bad. He was 3000 yrs old and he nearly get beat by one of his men.To me roman was not that powerful. I did like that he though about how his action would effect Evie and he didn't take a way her choose. Evie was OK heroine. I like that she was attracted to him but not like her body ran the show. What I didn't like was how she keep over and over describing how sex and good looking he was and how much it hurts to look at him. One thing that bug me was that we had to read over and over how Evie was not human but she never say what she was all that is said the she is becoming a powerful seer. This book could have been really good if the author had really focused on the main characters. The author do have an interesting series if she develops the story.I will try another book from this series.

I love the Big Bad Wolf series and hoped this wasn't a "bridge" book to a new series. It is not. I love the vampires. I love that they are not evil and that they are vulnerable. This has alot of suspense and a seemingly impossible mission. Lots of fun. Can't wait to read the other 11 books (there are 12 Kings so I am assuming each will get his own book). All in all a good suspense, romance, torture, sex, magic and loyalty with a little mystery thrown in.
Just enough mention of the werewolves to remind you of the time frame so, while not necessary, I would recommend reading Big Bad Wolf series first (same author, just checked and the 4 books in that series are currently $3.99 and well worth it). Hope you enjoy it too.The Big Bad Wolf Romance Compilation (Bundle: Books 1-4)

This is my first time writing a review but I just had to. I am very excited about this new series and hope I do not have to wait to long to read the next. I loved the new approach she took to writing this book about vampire romances. It was a change from all the others I have read and I have read alot of these type of series. It was great and I highly recommend reading this one.

I really wanted to love this book... It had all the elements: vampires, werewolfs, ect., but lacked in delivery. I'm not a fan when books switch between characters especially when it's more then two. There were just too many side stories going on that didn't pertain directly to the main one. The entire time I was reading the book I felt like I was missing something... too many characters with too much information was thrown at you in a short amount of time. Plus the way they interacted and talked about each other was like you should have detailed knowledge of them. You were given minimal information, which normally is fine but in this case it was like being dumped into the middle of a series. I think the problem is K-W has spent too much time with the characters of this world and although this is the first book in this new series she has lost her perspective. The best way I can describe it, is like when you meet a new group of friends and they have been friends for years with their own jokes and long history. Even though they make an effort to include you and share jokes/stories of the past but when the stories are retold the jokes aren't funny and you only get a partial view of the obvious deep history. If your heart is set on this book I would recommend reading her other books first (hopefully) it might help. As for me I think I'll pass... I loved her ideas but don't like being the third wheel.

Very well written. I can't wait to read the next book! The characters were well developed with the author leading you in several different story directions at once. I would recommend this book for anyone who is interested in supernatural. Awesome!

Loving the first book am on the 2nd one now. I compare it to Diane Duvall or Rebecca Zanetti's books. I am losing sleep over them, because of staying awake a little bit longer than I am used to. I can't wait till I find out what comes next. Especially in The Phantom King

Not very excited to read next book. I am going to think on that. Hopefully the problem with this book is that it's the first in the series. There was hardly any story, just back story and character introductions. I thought it would never end!

"The Vampire King" tells the story of Roman D'Angelo, Vampire King, who has ruled for 3,000 years and is known for his awesome powers, his fairness, compassion and the sense of order he maintains in paranormal chaos. He has also ruled the whole time without a queen, although he has certainly had his share of lovers. Roman is 6' 5", with dark hair and eyes, and the sort of handsome that stops women mid-sentence when he walks into a room. But although he almost married once, Roman has never found the woman that he sensed was meant to be his queen. But then dreams begin and he seeks counsel of his dear friend Lalura Chantelle, a wise witch in her nineties, who has her own considerable gifts and is a powerful seer. Roman trusts her implicitly, and she encourages him to seek out the woman in his dreams, who she has sensed needs him and needs him quickly.
It doesn't take long before Roman finds the subject of his dreams, a woman readers have already met as the Indie author Evelynne Farrow. Evie is beautiful, strong-willed and has many serious responsibilities in her life. I found her instantly likable. But she is also secretly being pursued by a handsome but very evil warlock, Charles Ward. Ward has a grudge against D'Angelo and has decided Evie is the best way to seek revenge. He knows who she is even before Roman does. The circumstances under which Evie meets Roman are chaotic the first time, and then the second time, when he attempts the normalcy of joining her for coffee, they are disrupted by violence again. I felt great compassion early on for both Evie and Roman. Evie for all she goes through, and Roman because he has waited so long and is desperately in love with Evie, a love that he believes has been thousands of years in the making, yet his attempts at winning her over keep blowing up in his face and she becomes angrier and angrier with him. Although trust seems to evolve.
There is a great deal going on in this book, but the primary story is about Roman and Evie. Read carefully and focus on them as their relationship evolves, as well as the characters who assist them during some tricky times. There are many paranormal moments throughout that influence the outcome and mind-blowing fantastical characters that assist Roman and Evie. It is a great story indeed, with such introspection into Evie and Roman's characters, separately as well as together, as they travel through this story, that I suggest slowing down a little as you read and experiencing it. The story is great, and the storytelling is brilliant.

Let me preface this by saying I have read almost all of Ms. K-W's other books and loved them. This one is no exception. I would HIGHLY recommend that you read her other 4 books in the Big Bad Wolf series before reading this one. They will give you back-story and insight that you need to really understand the players on the field in this book (though we are introduced to some yummy new characters)
The book starts out by taking numerous points of view. I was a bit concerned at first at how much we jump around, but I now realize that this was done to set things up not only for this book but also for the others in this series to come.
The author shows the reader some of our favorite characters from the BBW series and also introduces us to Evie, our not quite human female lead who is an indie author and animal lover. The Vamp King, Roman D'Angelo, is ancient. Try 3,000 years ancient and falls for our 30 year old Evie at first sight. He is of course tall, gorgeous, and everything Evie ever imagined as a writer of paranormal literature.
I don't want to give anything away, but let's just say that things seriously heat up after the main characters have to battle a seriously evil vamp named Charles, and several enslaved Akyri. I'm really looking forward to and hoping to hear more about Thanatos, the Phantom King and also Ramses, a "God of Gods."
I was not disappointed with this book or its ending! It left me wanting to know more about what will happen in this world of the Kings.

I purchased this book a couple of weeks ago due to it's low price on the Kindle and the reviews of others because I LOVE paranormal romances: Charlaine Harris, J.R. Rain, Patricia Briggs, Jeaniene Frost, and Ilona Andrews. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the single dimension characters or the "overwhelming, instant love" that The Vampire King had for the "heroine" of the story (an author of paranormal romance novels? Seriously?). Worst of all, before I even attempted to write this review, I had to reread the description of the story just to be reminded of what it was about and on top of that, I'm not entirely sure if I even bothered to read the book to its ending! My recommendation? Stick with Ilona Andrews, Jeaniene Frost and company and skip this book (unless it's free and you're REALLY bored).

I love Heather's previous books but found this book to be all over the place. It was written from many views including characters for future and past books which normally tie the books together as well as sets up future books but seeing as this was a new series I personally don't believe characters from a different series should be included unless they are going to become a part of the plot. I also found that many phrases and ideas where repeated often and then in multitude in someone else's view. I will still look forward to the next book in the series but believe this book could have had a bit more work done on it.

This is an amazing read that you will not be disappointed with. You will however need to read the BBW books beforehand though or you will be lost with some of the character references. From the very beginning there was never a dull moment in this book! Roman who has been around for thousands of years has recently started dreaming of Evie and knows he has to protect her and that she is the one for him.He finally finds her only to have the bad guy Charles decide that he is going to take her away and keep her for himself instead. The story is told in several points of view so you get to see different sides of the story, which I always enjoy in the books I read. You also get to hear from old characters and new ones are introduced so I am excited to see who the next king up will be.

I bought this kindle book because of the high star ratings. I love supernatural books, however, I felt this book went too fast. I felt like it was trying to get information about the plot that it skipped over a lot of the details. There wasn't enough substance. I think this book could have been better if only the author would have slowed down and used more descriptions.

I have to admit I am so disappointed in this book. Just having read the big bad wolf series I was very excited to start this book. However it took me several attempts to sit and read it. There are way to many characters and story lines that it is confusing. I felt disconnected with Evie and Roman and their love story. When i thought that the last few chapters should have been the middle of the book. I guess this is why the epilogue really didn't surprise me. I figured we hadn't seen the last of Romans long lost love. I can only hope the next book will not be as rushed. As much as I loved the big bad wolf series I felt extremely fusterated at the thought of more turmoil for the main characters. They had already been thru enough. If the author was going to have them present in this story it would have nice to see happily ever after. I wish there was more of Evie and Roman. Only read this book if you want to be disappointed and fusterated.

I have to say I was pretty sad when I found out that there would not be any more books in the Big Bad Wolf series. Until I read the first book in the spin off series, Vampire King. I love it! Roman is so powerful and it's every girls( well this girls) dream to have a gorgeous vampire fall in love with her. Evie is a wonderful heroine. She writes books, IndienAuthor, about Vampires and other beings and always has a larger than life male lead. When faced with an actual Vampire, Evie reacts differently than you would of thought.
I absolutely adored this book and cannot wait for the next installment in the Kings Series.

but everything was a little too 'pat', and if you had to explain every detail of the magic, it ceases to be magical. There were parts of the book that were ok, but they quickly fizzled. All in all, it was just disappointing.

What a piece of dreck. Convoluted, over-wordy, and far too improbable to imagine yourself in the book. There's an astral plane, a shallow story, and everyone has fangs, not just the vampires. I'd like my $2 back, as well as the hour I spent skimming this book.

I read a lot of vampire and paranormal romance, but I seriously am on Chapter 8 and bored out of my mind with this story. I honestly don't know if I can keep reading it. Now that I see such good reviews, I'm thinking I'll give it a few more chapters. But right now, nothing much has really happened up to Chapter 8.

This book was good, but not great. You really get what you pay for here, and for 2.99$ you get vague charectors, vague bad guys, and too many charectors to even get attached to the main charectors. Roman is a big, bad, dark, handsome, all powerful vampire king. Evie is that every day 30 something human woman who ends up being something more and for some reason Roman, at 3000 years old, falls in love with. Yawn. It's been done to death, and it's boring. It's the same thing everyone else is doing.
There are no hugely new and exciting ideas about vampires to be found here. Vampires with magic has been done. Vampire royalty has been done. Again, yawn. Not to say that I don't enjoy repeat ideas, I enjoy both of these aspects of vampire literature, but only when they are done well.
Unfortunately the author felt the need to introduce a variety of charectors unescential to the story line. You don't need to tell me about some healer and all her buddies and describe all of them and go into detail about what happens to them when they aren't essential to the plot. I get the point, but it could have been mentioned briefly by one of the essential charectors instead of introducing a whole bunch of people that I don't actually need to know about.
On the same token - introducing one of the new kings and having an entire scene with him wanting to follow some unknown woman is completely pointless and only serves to confuse the reader. The time wasted on this sort of drivel could have been used developing what are otherwise pretty basic charectors. Yes I know they are strong and brave and kind and blah blah blah, but I really didn't get attached to either one of them by the end of the book. The surprise ending did not make me think "oh god, I want to read the next book" it made me think "trying to set us up for the next book, but I don't really care about these vague shells of people".
Something SHOULD have been done with the hunters, but they just served as vague plot devices. Ramses was too vague for me to even care about, the hunters too vague even for a plot device. I'm not afraid for either of the charectors when it comes to these would-be bad guys. They're like the Eagles in L.O.T.R.; vague plot devices that get used entirely too much. God forbid the author use their imagination and come up with bad guys that you can actually feel angry at.
The way the Author describes her charectors career as an Author seems like the Author describing herself: "Evie would give just about anything to be as good as he was. As successful as he was." It just sounds like the Author whining about her own inability to grasp good descriptives. "You're perfect" is described by the author as being the best compliment that a 3000 year old vampire can come up with. Really? 3000 years and "You're perfect" is it? Vague, vague, vague.
I will not return for seconds.

the characters are completely Unconvincing.
they fell in love after 2 seconds? the motives, the development of the plot...it felt entirely improvised and poorly at that.
Avoid this one, completely disappointing.

No spoilers, because everything is revealed within 15 pages or so, then repeated over and over and over.
The Vampire King takes the same premise as Twilight, but with adults. Don't trip over that pathetically low bar. The Vampire King finds himself drawn to Evy, a gorgeous author with, get this, confidence issues, who doesn't realize she's really incredibly beautiful. Upon their first meeting, they fall immediately and madly in love.
Lets set aside that that is the DSM-IV definition of psychotic obsession and the fact that there is no romance beyond "destiny" and "magic" and "meant to be" and all the other nonsense that stalkers use to justify their actions. Set aside the fact that everyone has magic and is supernaturally beautiful, and everyone is a King or a Queen or a Knight. Once that My Little Pony universe mentality is set aside, nothing really happens. Theres no build up. Theres no real conflict that develops. Theres no love that blooms, only forced attraction and vapid passion. You know the ending of the book at the beginning, literally. And the rest after a brief intro is just fill about how gorgeous everyone is and how attracted everyone is to each other. There's no romance because a romance never develops.
The only reason that this isn't one star is at least the character has a fleeting moment of self restraint before throwing herself entirely into the arms of her destined, magical, lover vampire king. She recognizes this isn't normal and puts up at least a token resistance before the book effectively ends and she finally accepts that despite just meeting a 3000 year old man she has no connection with, no relationship to, and no understanding of, they're obviously destined to be together.

Meet Evie, a paranormal romance author who writes about vampires, weres and other supes. All without knowing they are very very real and closer by than she thinks. As she gets targeted by a malicious fiend as the means to hurt and destroy the vampire king, Roman D'Angelo, Evie will be thrown into a world she had no idea actually existed.
Will she be able to trust and open up to Roman? Or will she pay the ultimate price and be the downfall of a king?
My take on the book:
Errmmm... so yeah... why haven't I read this series (and well... the former series) before???
I liked it a lot! Even though it wasn't a lengthy book, we had everything a good story needs.
I haven't read the previous series and while of course there is mention of events and characters that I don't know, I didn't find this very problematic, the story was good by itself.
Character building was good, don't go expecting to know the ins and outs of the character, you wont. But again, for this story we got more than enough. We had a good amount of conversations and inner musings.
The flash-forward at the start gave the book a great start and set the ambience.
Pacing and flow were excellent, not once during the book did I think we had too much conversation or too little. As this wasn't a lengthy book you would think it might have been rushed, but nope, it really wasn't. I had the feeling the author took the time to let the characters tell the whole story without standing next to them with a timer :)
As I read this book for a challenge, I was really pleasantly surprised and will continue (or rather... start) with the original series. I'm looking forward to it!

This author was recommended to me by my book club so, I bit the big one and purchased it.....I usually don't spend this much for so few pages....Basically, you and I pay 2 dollars for every 105 pages this author writes....a true professional author doesn't cost that much!!!! Go to Barnes and Noble or Walmart and do the math.....Anyway, I bought the book. Now, the girls in my book club raved about this book so, I was excited to get down to reading it.....Yet, when I did, I found this book to be just like every other book out there....average and not worth the cost. I'm a member of Kindle Unlimited....there are literally thousands of books out there that give us the same story and quality for free, or .99 cents. I was disappointed! I expected this book to be great. But, the Hero was lacking......How are we to relate to him so quickly? And where is more of his history so, that we might feel his pain or happiness? I found it hard to know his feelings on a deeper level. The book rushed me thru their love story. And the heroine....Mmmmm, not there. I found her flat and unbelievable. Yes, she writes vampire novels but, let's face it, that's not enough for her to except him right away. Would you not "freak out" if a vampire walked up to you and said, "Let's be lovers for eternity?" Uhhhh, I'd be looking for the exit!!!! He didn't say that to her but, you get the idea. I expected more fear or drama from her in the beginning of their relationship. When she found out he was a vampire. Yes, we read books like this but, we all know vampires don't exist, right? It would take me a bit of an adjustment when faced with a real vampire! After all I've mentioned, you can imagine that the rest of the "action" in the story left me confused and unable to relate to any of it. More history was needed between the enemy and the hero.......I was expected to see the enemy as the bad guy but, again....no complete history as to why he was so evil. All in all, the book felt rushed. It needed more fluff, more detail, more something to make it worth the money. I won't be buying any more of these books due to the cost and quality not being equal to each other. Hope this helps you my fellow readers!

***Review Contains Minor Spoilers***
I really liked the idea of this series. It sounded fun. Unfortunately, the execution was lacking. The writing in the book really jumped around - the prologue was set toward the end of the story, chapter one returned to the beginning, chapter two followed chapter one just fine, but I think chapter three happened between chapters one and two. In the first three chapters we meet three POV characters - the bad guy, and our leading man and woman. Chapter four steps away from the main story to introduce a fourth POV character and a glimpse of the woman would will no doubt be his love interest when he gets his own book. Chapter five returns to the two main characters of this book, but I wasn't able to figure out where it placed in the time line - after chapter two or chapter three.
In addition to the storyline being hard to follow chronologically, I thought the powers held by pretty much everyone were a little ridiculous. It seems that beyond the traditional vampire talents, the vampire king has pretty much every magical talent available, as do several of the other characters seen during the opening chapter. And pretty much every vampire is a magical practitioner from what the world building said. That just didn't work for me.
Finally, I didn't feel any connection with the main characters. The vampire king might have been all right, if the story was shown in a more easily followed fashion, but his love interested was alternately boring and annoying.
I managed to make it 25% of the way in, but I couldn't keep going after that.

I just finished The Vampire King by Heather Killough-Walden and the first word out of my mouth was "WOW!" This author has laid out a fast paced, exciting storyline that makes it almost impossible for the reader to put this book/ebook reader down.
The story of self-published author Evelynne Farrow, who has always believed in vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures, is that of a hard-working young woman who spends most of her time writing stories and taking care of her infirmed parents. She really doesn't have much of a life, but that soon changes when she unexpectedly meets Roman D'Angelo aka The Vampire King. Roman, who is said to be over three thousand years old, has never met a woman like Evie and that's where their relationship begins.
As their story continues, you will meet several fascinating characters who work with/are friends of Roman and those who also want to destroy him by any means possible including killing Evie. I love the way this talented author weaves the histories of the secondary characters into the main story which makes the reader want to see these characters reappear in sequels. Some of these characters are the Thirteen aka the Thirteen Kings and each has a special power or ability that is necessary for protecting the Offspring.
This story is rich with details and readers will lose themselves in the progression of Evie and Roman's relationship and the mysterious twists and turns that this story takes. Be ready for a thrilling and bumpy ride, but promise it will be worth the chills with an ending that leaves you breathless! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

From my 1st reading: This was very good. It was not the fluffy vampire smut I was thinking it might be. There was intrigue, and the building of a world of vampires, and werewolves. It's really a taste, but the story is also a foundation for the books to come. I really hope all four books that have been written are as wonderful as this one.
From my 2nd reading: Stunning! I should say that one ought to read this while listening to some dramatic Mozart and Beethoven. The culmination of the story when Evie is taken by the Vampire King is explosively cinematic. And, yes, I'm fairly sure my music enhanced this.
Evie is a very likable young woman. Like many of us she works hard, she has elderly parents to take care of, she writes and she drinks far too much coffee. The stories that she writes are about vampires and when she meets Roman D'Angelo she is not really afraid or shocked but her nerves do have to panic for a bit. From the moment Roman finally kisses Evie the story escalates in speed, and in depth.
There is a lot to this first story but it is not overwhelming.
It really was a joy to read the 2nd time around.

Roman DeAngelo has been in existence for three millennia. Never in all that time has he ever lost control, that is until he meets Evie Farrow, she is not like Roman who is King of the vampires. Evie is human. Roman is attracted to her, but more than that he is inexplicably drawn to her, he plans to get to know her gradually. But those plans go awry when other forces come into play. Forcing Roman to take Evie under his protection. Evie is a writer she has written many books about vampires, but now she is faced with the reality that they are not figments of writers imaginations. Their king Roman scares and fascinates her. Drawn into his world Evie is in danger, but can Roman protect her?
This is the first bookin the Kings series, although it is really a spin off from the The Big Bad Wolf Romance Compilation (Bundle: Books 1-4), it would be best to read this series first, as people from that series are also featured in this book. Having said that this story is far better IMO. I loved the characters here they were well described, all of the vampire males are gorgeous, Roman most of all his power and appeal are addictive. Evie is a woman who doesn't have many personal relationships, she looks after her parents who are in bad health. She has always dreamed of meeting a man like the characters she writes about. Someone more than just human. In that she gets her wish. This is a fast moving well paced story the chemistry between Roman and Evie is electric. There are also teasers in this as to what might be in the upcoming book. A very enjoyable read.

LITERAL ADDICTION's Review of The Vampire King, by Michelle L. Olson:
The author graciously gifted me a copy of The Vampire King to read. While I was concerned I wouldn't get to it in a timely manner to read and review, I somehow found an opening in my schedule and settled in for the read. Boy am I glad I did!
The Vampire King is a great 1st book in The Kings series, a spin-off of The Big Bad Wolf, but more than able to stand on its own.
I love the underlying chess concept. Original, smart, and a great foundation for a new series. 13 Kings, each of a different preternatural race, each with a Queen out there somewhere... and of course, each with their own thirst for something - power, love, knowledge, etc.
Roman is the Vampire King and has been for millenia. He's sexy, powerful, & structured. He's a fair king, but he's not foolish to think that there isn't anyone out there who may want his head. When he discovers Evie and feels the attraction, he struggles with using his powers on her and I found that refreshing. I also loved how Heather detailed Roman's shock when all of sudden said powers no longer work and the meaning behind 'why'....
Evie is an everyday woman. She's a Kindle published author taking care of her aging parents and volunteering at an animal shelter. She immerses herself in her work though because she's always felt like there's more out there and has felt more 'at home' when living in her fantasy worlds with the supernatural. She's never really left herself time for a love life, so when Roman enters who world and kicks her hormones into hyperdrive she's not entirely sure what to do with herself.
Then there's our villain. Charles. Also a vampire, but one of the OTHER 12 Kings as well. He's got it out for Roman and will do just about anything to exact the revenge he feels is deserved, including taking away the one woman meant exclusively for Roman in all of the world.
The Vampire King is an action packed story with a diverse plot and engaging story. The characters are relatable, and the world is fabulous. I can't wait to meet the other 11 Kings and journey through their quest to find their Queens.
LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Vampire King 4 Stars and would recommend it to anyone looking for a sexy, thrilling Vampire Romance.
I can't wait to see what's in store for the phantom king in book #2. :)

I was so excited to read this book, but its was a great disappointment. Vampire kings was awful, I did not enjoy one thing about the story, am sorry to give such a bad review but I have read many vampire books and The vampire king is not a king. First off he used magic to pouf in and out, actually he used magic for everything, what vampire uses magic like a witch aren't you a great Vampire, thousand of years old and you have your own abilities (nop). oh and hear this he's a half vampire/ he's half warlock. You find that out in the end. The king has no charisma, he does not even sound sexy at all. There is no sexual tension at all not even a sexy look. There is no sex at all only until the very end and its bland. There were so many gaps in the story, one minute your are in the part with the king Roman and Evelyn and the next the story stops in the middle of something dramatic seriously!! and then your in another story with another king, like the phantom king, or the warlock king. I know there are thirteen kings, but this book should have been dedicated only to Roman and Evelyn not chapters about every king. Now the heroin what's her name. She's a writer of supernatural stuff and she lives a very boring shelter life and loves boots, like all color boot the rocker boots, that's fine by me have some style, but that's it she sit in a coffee shop and that it, BORING. At some point am excited because she's putting her big girl panties on and being sarcastic and funny, but that falls flat. Then she is targeted and the story starts she gets powers because she's half human, but they don't mention WTH she is and how did that come about its very frustrating. I am sorry to say that I did not enjoy the book one bit

Horrible. I couldn't get last the first few chapters. Basically the main vampire had all these super powers and so do a bunch of other characters in the book. It's like the hero doesn't have any flaws or weaknesses. I understand it's fiction but the whole point of reading fiction is to lose ones self in the story. That wasn't happening with this book. It was just so horribly unbelievable. For goodness sakes your vampire hero doesn't need mind control, time control, telekinesis, popping things out of nowhere, etc. This booked seemed like such a promising storyline but I just couldn't read it anymore after a few chapters. I'm definitely asking for a refund on this.

It was so easy to get lost in the story of Evie and Roman, especially if you're like me and secretly harbor the fantasy that there really are "supernatural" beings out there. Evie is the same way, only she doesn't really know it yet. And then she meets one, and the whole world she's only dreamed about comes to life. I loved this book! Actually, I love all of the books in the Big Bad World collection. You don't really need to have read any of the other books to fully understand what is going on, however, if you read them first, it helps to make more sense of the "extra" characters. A lot of the bad reviews for this book are complaining about these "extra" characters that they think don't have any relevance to the story, from the Hunters to Ramses, to the healer and the other kings. Having read the other books (The Big Bad Wolf series and The Phantom King) I can see their complete relevance. I don't think we've seen the last of any of them.

The premise seems solid, but I got bored very quickly with all of the backstory. I think this writer would benefit from an editor. All of the imaginative elements are in place, but the way the author unfolds the story was not very gripping. A better writer would be able to drive the story forward without all of the clunky digressions. Instead of large chunks of explanatory narration about the author's imaginative universe, the necessary information could have been inserted in much more clever ways that would not interrupt the flow of action. The author spent a lot of time setting up ancillary plot lines and characters she is going to develop in future books in the series. It almost read in places like a collection of notes. Would have given it a 2, but the sex scene was pretty hot.

Once again Heather Killough-Walden has out done herself!! The Vampire King is wonderfully written and a great start to the new series. Vampire King Roman D'Angelo has finally found his true love after 3,000 years. Roman is sexy, powerful, and and everything a woman like Evie could want and more. Evelynne Farrow known as Evie to her friends, is a beautiful, smart, creative woman with a talent for writing stories that bring the supernatural to life. She is human but finds human men lacking in something she desires preferring a man more like the hunks from her books. Evie has a very caring heart, donating half her time to an animal shelter and taking care of her parents. Just when she thinks she just might be destined to be alone forever she is thrown into Roman's world. A world where vampires, werewolves and other magical creatures exist and not only in her imagination. Roman isn't the only one that knows about Evie and what she means to The King, there is another Charles Ward. Charles is an evil warlock vampire hell bent on revenge and sees Evie as the perfect way to hurt his King. What will Roman do to save his queen and how far will he go for love. Will Charles manage to take from The King the first woman to touch his heart in 3000 years. Is Evie only human as everyone thinks or is there more to her then meets the eye. Get this book and find out you wont be disappointed. This book might be a spun off from...The Big Bad Wolf Series but it certainly stands all on its own. Once I picked it up I hated putting it down and it left me wanting more. This is another must read from a very talented author Heather Killough-Walden.

I love all of Heather Killough-Walden's work and have read everything that I can get my hands/Kindle on. I like reading books that absorb me from the get go, so I'm not sure if I can be unbiased in reviews for her work, since every book I've read takes me into Heather's worlds from the first sentence. I loved The Vampire King, couldn't put it down, and was excited that Heather brought Roman back because I was curious about him from The Hunt. I also like that there are cross over characters from the BBW series. This was a great book and an exciting start to The Kings series and I can't wait to read/know what happens next. Please write faster Mrs. Killough-Walden!!!

I almost quit reading this book but kept on and the story got intense and kept my nose in it. This is going to be an awesome series. The beginning of the book starts off with back stories before it sucks you in and throws you into the lives of Roman, Evie and Charles it also introduces you to other Kings that I can't wait to read their stories. This is also a spin off from "The Big Bad Wolf" series and continues with some of the characters from that series.

I loved the way the book moved along at a fast pace and kept me wondering what would happen next. And the ending was perfection. For an excellent read, you can't go wrong with The Vampire King; it's one of the best books I've read in the genre.

This book was great, full of action, great story, romance, what else could you ask for. I really couldn't put this book down once I picked it up, and i'm sure that everyone who bought this book would say the same. It is just a wonderful story with so many fantastic moments. The author always has something new to surprise you with. This is a must read, a must buy or die book like another amazing read I highly recommend THE FOREVER GIRL (an Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Romance Novel of the Occult) (Forever Girl Series #1)

Roman is HOT! I LOVED this book! I really loved the fact that Evie was a romance writer! Just little touches like that make this book awesome. Heather really knows how to write a sexy leading man and a vibrant leading lady!

I've read all of her books and they are great but this one is absolutely my favorite and, I think, her best. I love the development of the relationship between Roman and Evie. Evie really rings true. Never once was I pulled out of the story by poor character development or unlikely plot twists. This is a cut above other vampire books and I can't wait for the next one.

This is an amazing book! I love this series. Heather Killough-Walden is one hell of a story teller!! I lose sleep when her books come out. I can't put them down and then usually end up going back and rereading the series. If your looking for adventure, paranormal, romance, and a reason to escape into a great story, buy this book! You will love it.

I did not expect to enjoy this book so much. From the first page, I was absolutely pulled into the story, and did not want to put it down. I will definitely read the next book in the series. The characters were memorable and I find myself really anticipating some of the secondary character's stories. I have been reading this author's previous work, and I will say that she has really hit her stride in this book. I have almost finished the second werewolf book and I see a huge improvement in this book's plotting, characterization, etc.

The Vampire King is another of Heather Killough-Walden's unique takes on supernatural romance. In this book she gives us an intelligent, relatable heroine in Evelynne Grace Farrow, an indie writer not unlike the author herself. What I love about this and all of Heather Killough-Walden's other books is that the heroine is never a shrinking violet and always has a mind of her own. Evelynne (Evie) takes a very active role in the storyline and in this case possesses some pretty amazing powers as well. The male lead is the sizzling Vampire King, Roman D'Angelo who has lived alone for three thousand years until he met his match and mate in Evie. This is a real page turner with all the suspense and breathtaking action you could ever want in a thriller coupled with what is actually a very tender romance between Evie and Roman. This is one story that could be enjoyed by someone who just loves Romances, Harlequin novels, etc.

Wow! Even though this was a spin off from another series, I read this one stand-alone. I enjoyed it so very much. It has a very detailed technique of writing that puts you deeply into the story and inside the character's heads. The depth of emotions that I felt for these characters was thrilling. I can't wait for the next book. HKW is a wonderful author, and I will continue to read her wonderful stories!! Definitely a recommend! Great job!!

This is a great start for a spin off series. I wish there was a little more of the characters from the Big Bad Wolf series, but that is my only complaint about the book. I loved the characters. I read the book in two days because I couldn't wait to see what happens next.

I am a huge fan of HK Waldens writing. I was first introduced to her via FaceBook. I have read everything she has written and have not once been disappointed as of yet!
The Vampire King grabs you right from the start and never lets go. Roman feels so incredibly real. You get a full picture of each character and she gives us a treat by bringing in a few favorite characters from her best completed series. I believe I read this book in a matter of 2 days. You will not want to put this one down. I cannot wait for the next book. Thank you Heather!

I read the reviews for this book and bought it on thinking it would be a great read. I was sadly mistaken. It just wasn't a very good read. I thought it was going to have more of a plot, definition of characters and action. I just couldn't get into it. I thought it would be J.R. Ward type but it fell really flat.

The book is a spin off from the big bad wold series so if you enjoyed reading about hunky men you won't be dissapointed. Heather is an amazing writer,A definite must read and just like a crack addict you'll want more.

This seemed like it would be a fun read. Unfortunately I ended up blowing through pages like a breeze through a tree. Too many other characters from other books mentioned which were nonessential to this story and made it a bore to read. Not to mention a convoluted plot and no chemistry between the main characters. Guess I should've the others first...

I really enjoyed this book. The author really brought the characters to life. I only wish more scenes were dedicated to the main character and his protagonist. The heroine went from fighting her fate to accepting a bond with the King without establishing how she got to that place. Aside from this complaint, I'm ready to read the next book.

Typical, magnificent Heather. You fall in love with all of her characters. No doubt you will have a hard time putting this book down. There is plenty of intrigue, suspence, action and oh yes, romance; very hot romance.

Definatley one of the best vampire romance books I have read. Great characters, continuous flow of action and drama I could just hear a soundtrack, in my head it all came alive for me. Did a good job of incorporating characters from the authors Big Bad Wolf series without leaning on them and leads us on to look for the next book in the Kings cycle. I desperately want more!

This was a great beginning in a new series. The characters were well defined and I enjoyed the new twist. The ending was a surprise, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series as soon as they are published.

This book sat on my shelf for a couple weeks. I keep going back looking for something new to read but wasn't drawn in enough to get past the synopsis. I finally wanted to get my money's worth and sat down to read it. The author throws you into the middle of the plot. She gives you just enough you have a hard time putting the book down. It was great quick read.

A meandering story line with too much back story and too many players. It seemed like every chapter introduced a new "main" character and I found my attention so divided that I couldn't develop empathy for any of them. I will not be reading any more of this series.

like most of this authors books i find this boring, not suspenseful and alot less than exciting. Her books promise, but never deliver. they would be better as young adult reading not for mature audiences

An event happens, and for some mind numbing reason, it's repeated by every person who was in the room. Most of the book is just repetition. There's no distinct narrator because everyone repeats what happens. I honestly couldn't read it halfway. I'm starting to wonder who exactly are giving all these five star reviews. So many of these Kindle books are so poorly written, yet have stellar reviews. Friends of the authors I guess.
