I bought this book for my 10 year old nephew (4th grade). He loves to read now but has been through vision therapy for dyslexia. Now that he likes reading, I really wanted to get him some fun books that would just encourage a love of reading a good book. He has been reading this to me out loud and we have both really enjoyed it. I personally like it as much as he does and I'm 44. He has been laughing out loud and we have had some fun discussions about ridiculous premises in the book, like would we want to be trapped in a game ourselves and so on. It seems hard to find great books for boys at this age and this book doesn't disappoint. I will be looking for more books in this series to buy us.

My grandson really enjoyed this book. My grandson is nine years old and loves playing video games. So, he was very excited about reading this book. He said it made him feel as though he was playing right along with the characters. I highly recommend this book for a young boy to read.

I was skeptical since I'm not a video gamer. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Dustin did a great job capturing the mindset of junior high boys, uncertainty, enthusiasm, boogers and all. This book draws you into the action with every page turn and leaves you wanting more. Looking forward to the sequel!!!

My son who had been a struggling reader loves this book! The last two nights he has read it at bedtime and we had had to make him set it down which has rarely happened. He is excited to read the next two.

After my 10-year-old son read this book he announced "this book would have been a 10 out of 10 but it had a major cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers! It's like a cheat to make you have to buy the next book."

My 7 year old son likes the book but we've noticed a few typoS in the book itself. Some of the analogies/concepts are a little over his head but overall I'm satisfied with this purchase & may get the rest of the collection.

My 11 year old son didn't enjoy this book. He said it was very confusing for him and didn't want to really finish it. He reads at a high level, so I was surprised he found it confusing, but either way it just wasn't his thing. And this is a kid who loves video games.

This has to be the most video game driven book that I have ever read that makes reading fun for kids who love video games! When you have two boys (named Jesse & Eric) get sucked into a video game that leaves them wondering what will happen next, anything and everything starts going wrong. It's when they realize that a game glitch is going into self protection mode and will kill anything that wasn't in the game to begin with, it will leave them both fighting for their lives.

I found this first book in this series to be filled with laugh out moments and moments that will have you wondering what is going to happen next. It's the perfect book for kids who need something that will get them to read a book when they are just too connected to video games. I will say this as a adult reading it, it made me want to read the other books in this series just to see what will happen next for Jesse & Eric!

Thank You to Dustin Brady for writing a good start to this series that will hopefully get kids to drop the controllers to pick up a book!!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley!

This book is fantastic! I use it as our read aloud for my three boys ages 6, 8, and 10. All three stay engaged and ask to read the next chapter (and the next)! For me, that's major since books aren't exactly a favorite of theirs. My 8-year-old even picked up his Kindle to get a head start on the next chapter because he couldn't wait to find out what happens next! Amazing story, amazing writing, and just a whole lot of fun to read. I definitely recommend the Trapped in a Video Game series as a way to get apprehensive readers reading!

Read this with my grandson over Easter weekend and we both LOVED it! It was different, exciting and so much fun!

It tells the story of 6th grader Jesse who finds himself and his best friend Eric trapped in a video game. They have to save the earth from aliens that has invaded the Earth. What should have been a simple video game mission turned really dangerous when a game glitch causes a self protection program to try killing Jesse and Eric.

We had a wonderful time reading this book. I highly recommend if you have a 7 year old boy who is always begging to play video games in your life. It's an excellent distraction from the actual games!

I am the mother of two adult sons. When they were young, I scoured bookstores, libraries, thrift stores, and anywhere books were sold to find stories that would interest them and entice them to read more often and find pleasure in doing so. I succeeded occasionally, but often only found books geared for girls. Though I think girls will enjoy the adventure found in Dustin's well-written book, I believe this is a book that any red-blooded boy will find hard to put down. It is full of action, adventure, and characters that resonate with boys. A video game that comes to life and contains the Statue of Liberty which turns into a rocket, a giant preying mantis that can be ridden, an army sergeant, a western television set, jetpacks, and giant boogers to name only a few of the exciting elements -- what is there for a boy not to like? Dustin, why couldn't you have written this book when my boys were young? Thanks for giving the next generation of boys a wholesome read that will grab their attention and imaginations. Well done, young man!

My third grade daughter loved this book! She reads for about 20 minutes every evening before bed, and she doesn't usually mention the books that she reads (and I make a point of finding fun/interesting reading material for her). This book was different. When I would go into her room to tuck her in, she would get really excited and start telling me what just happened in the last chapter. Sometimes she would even pick the book up, flip to a particular page and begin reading me a paragraph that she found funny or cool.

My daughter is a typical girl, not a tom-boy, however like all third graders she likes video games. Video games are a universal interest at her age, so don't think that this is a "boy's" book.

I work with an 8th grader who has a low reading level. He LOVED this book. At one point he told me it was the highlight of his school day and that he was so into the plot that he started dreaming about it at night. The chapters are short with multiple chapters ending with a cliffhanger. There is a great deal of humors exchanges between the characters. I highly recommend this book. We are moving forward with the series and the student can’t wait!

This is a really fun, well-written book that will appeal to both kids who love video games and those who don't -- like Jesse, who can barely operate a joystick when he unwittingly becomes trapped inside his friend's video game. Jesse's observations as he reluctantly maneuvers through the game are hilarious, and you can't help but get caught up in the adventure. My son would have LOVED this book a few years ago. Even as an adult reader, there were some plot twists I didn't see coming. I highly recommend this book for kids and teens.

My 8 year old son LOVES this book series! It's a great page-turner, lots of action, humor and excitement. And a level that he can read it on his own. He loves the references to real video games too. We highly recommend all four books in this series, and can't wait for the next one!

A great and fun read for 3rd-6th graders.

Dustin does a great job of weaving a story that will keep the interest of its readers. From the adventurers of traveling through a video game to the lessons of friendship and teamwork, Trapped In A Video Game will keep the interest of its intended audience and leave them asking "What's next for Jesse and Erik?" Looking forward to Book 2.

This book is laugh out loud funny. I truly enjoyed this read with my boys aged 9 and 7 . We are looking forward to the next book. This book is well written. My 9 yr old read this with little help which is a plus. Both of my boys were completely engulfed as we read trying to figure out what was coming next and how they were going to solve their dilemma. I would definitely recommend this book for middle school and junior high boys.

To quote William Faulkner, "Read, read, read." That is simply what you must do with this well written, compelling, and action-packed fantastical book. Stephen King once said, "Books are uniquely portable magic". That's what this book is. Pure magic!

Great book by a great author!

I always enjoyed the writings of Dustin Brady but didn't think he'd ever dive into children's literature...well, I'm glad he did!
It took a few days to read this story to my two little girls, but they absolutely loved it, and I loved reading it to them!

I highly recommend this book for kids age 8-11 (3rd-6th grade). But if you're like me, and enjoy reading along with the kids, I promise you will also find much enjoyment in this book.

I thought the author really did a great job in painting one scene after and after another quite vividly too! So, I want to recommend this for those ages 4-12 and or In grades 3-7 who loves to play video games like this of playing war type of games with different levels. I received this book for free, in return, here is my honest review. Super work Dustin B.! By Sunny.

I've been an avid reader since in was a young kid. I loved Hank The Cow Dog, Captain Underpants, and serial similar and similar level series. This is EXACTLY the kind of thingid have loved to have read when in was a kid - that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it as a 28 year old, because I did. The characters were fun, and acted and talked like kids do. Brady did a great job of getting wrapped up in the story and ready for the follow ups!

What a fun read! Brady offers young readers an intriguing premise, suspenseful story, and relatable characters. (If you liked "Wreck-it Ralph," you'll enjoy this book.)
Though the story is relatable to young readers (especially pre-teen boys) with plenty of mischief and booger talk, I appreciated the lack of potty humor, negative attitudes, and detrimental themes.
Brady's writing is loaded with voice. Definitely a book I would recommend for my nephew to read. :)

My two children (boy and girl) ages 13 and 11 loved this book. Let's be realistic, it's summer, so I expected them to push their new book aside and play outside. Nope! Instead, I found them huddled together reading their book and neglecting the pool! I would call that a win! Great read, looking forward to the next!

Too short (5th grader)
I think that the book trapped in a video game no.1 is to short. I read this on my new kindle that I got over Christmas(love it)
And I was reading and I looked at how far I am in the book and said this is such short book. I understand that it is a serious but I'm spending sooo much birthday money on books that are too short
