I gave the first book in the series, Crimes Against Magic, 5 stars 'cause it was great. I'm giving Born of Hatred 5 stars 'cause it's great as well. Great characters, strong plot and just damn good writing. I can hardly wait for the next one. In the meantime, I'll reread Iron Druid.

I am loving this series. The story and series are interesting enough, and the more he figures out about himself the more interesting and intriguing the story becomes. He is one dude people are leaning not to mess with. IT was hard for me to put down

I've read both of these Hellequin Chronicles books and have enjoyed them very much! The author's writing style really drew me in and had me wondering about the characters when I was doing other things and unable to stop & read for a bit. Can't wait for the next one!

Looking for the next series to burn through and low I came upon this series... Well written and well told, I had a hard time putting the book down and when I finished I had to start the next one. Fans of Urban Fantasy will enjoy.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes the fact that wizards can be the most deadly of opponents. The story fills in many of the gaps in what formed Nate into the Hellequin and makes his name feared.

Nate, the protagonist of the series, is one of the more appealing characters I've encountered for a long time. Following him on his journey is fun. This may not be the world's greatest literature, but I'm eagerly looking forward to the next one.

Just finished 3rd book of this series before reviewing. Pretty good read. Not up there with Sanderson, Abercrombie, Brent, etc. but also less serious/time consuming per-book. Good for travel reading.

Finished it in one sitting and I am looking forward to the next adventure. The premise is different and I cared about the characters enough to read both of Steve McHugh's books in two days. Thank you Steve, looking forward to your next book.

Straight ahead story, told creatively and entertainingly. Definitely elements of fantasy fulfillment appear here for the characters that are often kept out of reach in other titles, this delivers. I finished the book and felt happy I did.

Born of Hatred is the second book of the Hellequin chronicles and, as much as I liked the first book, the second book is even better. I was so absorbed in the characters and the world that I almost missed my train stop. I felt like Nathan was sitting next to me telling me his story while I read. He's the kind of character I really identify with, trying to bury his past but having to rely on the spectre of his reputation to keep his loved ones safe. I can't wait to learn more about Avalon and what they want to do about Nate in the future. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to dive into the next one.

Loved the character development in this book. It's been interesting to see the direction he's taken this story so far and I'm looking forward to see where it's going. I will definitely buy the next book in this series

Born of Hatred builds nicely on the characters and themes introduced in Crimes Against Magic. The writing is more consistent, the protagonist a bit less inexplicably smooth, and the plot at least as compelling. Although it's not yet as good as my favorite series in the urban fantasy genre, it definitely has potential.

I really enjoyed the story, and the way you wrote it! Review: "The Book's Awesome"! I really just wanted to say thank you for an awesome story! Not a critic, nor educated on gramatical and/or literary doctrine. You've told a unique story that has me expectant for the next addition. Thanks again!

Steve's writing style and characters are reminiscent of Roger Zelazny; witty, strong lead characters with little patience for rules but a strong moral compass. I have enjoyed every thing of his that I have read.

First off, really a fun read and great story. Story wise on par with Sandman Slim. The writing was a bit of a mess in places, but it flowed well and did nothing to prevent me from enjoying the story.

Steve McHugh knocks it out of the park again with his second novel in this series. Action to burn and a great plot keep the reader wanting more all the way to the end and beyond. I can hardly wait for his next book to come out!

This is a great sequel with some interesting mythology. Does a gerat job giving you some more background into the main character and the world he is part of. Lots of werewolves and ghouls in this one. Great book.

If you like Dresden, Atticus, or any of the urban fantasy...this is a good read. The story telling was not overly fast paced, but real slow either, it worked itself up to right where it had you rooting for the good guys, denouncing the bad guys....and not putting it down until it was done.

These books just get better and better. The relationship between Nate and Tommy is awesome and I can't wait to see where this series goes. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good urban fantasy.
