The Coldest Winter Ever

Sistah Soulja is a talented author who brings it all in the form of this must read book! I literally could not put the book down once I started reading it. Her skill of writing so that you are right there feeling and seeing the characters every move, thought and feeling is prevalent throughout the book. She has an uncanny ability to make you become a part of the book as you perhaps think about that cousin, aunt or friend who acts or behaves just like Winter or her friends. Or maybe the uncle that is reserved and has that quiet strength that Midnight exudes throughout the book! After the first few pages, you feel as if you know someone or perhaps have come a part of Midnight or Winter; two of her main characters in the book. Her ability to make you identify with the characters and there every day struggles is addicting and makes you addicted to wanting to know more and more about the the characters as you read throughout the book. I simply could not get enough of reading about him or Winter!

I can honestly say that her book is rather long, it's almost like a mini encyclopedia, but the good part is that the book holds your attention from the very first page until the end. At least for me. I was dying to get the second part of the book, the third and then hopefully a fourth part, then perhaps a movie or miniseries. I would love to see this become a movie or a play! That is the only real complaint I had this whole experience.

This books takes you on a journey of drugs, money, sex, and greed. But it also gives you a sense of "the grass is not always greener on the other side". I enjoyed how the characters were centered around crime but sister souljah show a good side to them. Never judge a book by its cover!! If you haven't read it, you're missing out!

I just finishing reading "The Coldest Winter Ever" and all I have to say is, WOW! Excellent. (Took me 2 days to read it!) It made me change my mind about how I view life. By far one of the best books ever! You def. have to read. It made me cry, smile, laugh, gasp, "ooohs" and everything else you can imagine. There were even times when i had to hold my breath because I did not want to shed a tear but I could not help it. I love that it focused on the African American culture and the struggles that they face - which affect us all. I love love love it!! I fell in love with Midnight - I loved that he was such a humble African American man who was very educated and throughout his struggles in life, he remained focused. I would def. recommend everyone and anyone this book. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT ONE BIT - I PROMISE.

I absolutely loved this book. I could not understand why Winter never thought of getting a real job after all she went through until I read Sister Souljah's analysis of her at the end of the book. Mrs Lady you have a special gift that God has given you and I feel so blessed to have read just a piece of your knowledge. I thank you for this educational outlook about the misgivings of our culture.

This book continues to be the best Urban tales for decades! It was the 1st book to grab my attention right away and throughtout! I read it over 15 years ago and although I read more personal development books; I bought it for my 16 year old cousin to get her more engaged in reading. You have start them where they are. She loves it and is so engaged with updating me on the storyline and she and I related to most of the lead characters life drama....lol

I have this book in hardback paperback and now on my kindle! I wrote a review about Deeper Love I side being my new favorite story however Winter's story is close to claiming it's position the only reason why Porsche's story surpasses Winter's is because of the compassion that she genuinely has fir her family members not just her father! The coldest Winter Ever is a lyrical imaginative stroke of genius! Sister Souljah has a tremendous skill, and uses it well.

I'd heard nothing but gr8 things about this book & I must say it certainly lived up 2 its reputation! Took me minute 2 get all the way n2 the story, but once Winter's life took a turn 4 the worse, I was hooked with anticipation of what wud happen next. @ times the chapters seemed really long but n hindsight it was worth each page turning moment. I gr8ly appreciate the author's ability 2 develop the characters & events without heavy loads of unnecessary drawn-out details. It seemed as if right when I wud begin 2 wonder this or that, about a character or sumthn that had previously occurred, the Author was right on time with the answer! Very well put 2gether and very original n its storyline. Mos def a read that I will easily recommend!

A definite page turner. I was hooked from the beginning. I recommend it to anyone that likes to read about real life on the streets. Shows that what you do to others comes back around. You are never to smart of lucky.

Second time I've read this book. Well written, and action packed. Makes one think before acting, and is a great lesson on why you should never judge anyone. You could very well end up in a situation similar to her family. Honest living is always the best living.

THIS BOOK WAS A GREAT READ STARTING FROM THE FIRST LINE, I MUST ADMIT MAYBE HAS TO DO WITH I CAN RELATE TO THE CHARACTER IN THIS STORY. I HAVE READ THIS BOOK I BELIEVE AT 3-4 TIMES AND I HAVE ENJOYED IT EQUALLY ALL TIMES. THE FIRST THING I RECOGNIZED IS IT IS EASY READING YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE AUTHOR IS TRYING TO COMMUNICATE YOU CAN EASILY STAY WITH THE STORY. IN MY OPINION WHEN YOU READ A NOVEL YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO GO ON AN IMMAGINARY TRIP AND THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH THIS NOVEL MUST READ ESPECIALLY TO OUR YOUNG WOMEN...
