The story begins with a prophecy, one that involves the two kingdoms of this story: one of light and one of darkness. One of the things I liked the most about this book was the setting. The construction of the kingdoms was so interesting, even the people from each of them have features according to their own places. Sol and Stella, both opposed but equally interesting.

Zwaantie is the protagonist and this book is narrated in third person, mainly from her point of view. She is the princess of Sol, who will have to become queen soon. But she prefers a simple life and doesn't want all the responsibilities that comes with the crown. Even less when she begins to have feelings for Phoenix, a slave.

The romance is built slowly and I liked that. Phoenix is a character that I loved, he is nice and friendly, they share really sweet moments and as their relationship is forbidden, that made it exciting.

The book has very complex characters. One of the most mysterious and interesting was The Voice, a being that controlls the law and morale of Sol, who punishes those who do something wrong. From the beginning, it caught my attention and became more and more interesting as the story progressed, as it was turning into a villain. I am completely intrigued by this character and want to know more about it, about its true identity.

Then a prince of Stella shows up, who wins everyone with his charm, including me, although Zwaantie doesn't trust him at all. He really was an interesting character, maybe the one I liked the most and I really want to know him better in the second book.

The plot becomes more and more interesting and complex. The author introduce new elements and characters that I really liked. It made the reading entertaining and provided action and very good twists and turns, which were totally unexpected.

It also had fun parts and other ones really sweet. It was an addictive read, it had me hooked from the first to the last page. I loved how the author writes, with a fast pace and a delicate narrative.

It was a really special book and I loved it. It left me wanting to continue the story because I really liked this book, it is my favorite so far by the author.

This is a thoroughly engaging new series from Kimberly Loth! She has a way of creating these worlds that just suck you in and this one plays on the theme of light and dark. Welcome to Sol where Crown Princess Zwaantie is destined to become the future queen. The problem is she does not want it and just wants to live a normal life. That is not possible due to “The Voice” that is in her head that inserts itself when she steps out of line and breaks a rule. One of the demands of her station is that she marries one of the lower princes but none strike her fancy. There is one male that draws her attention, her childhood friend Phoenix, but he is a slave and any chance of marriage between them is forbidden. High Prince Leo is from Stella and he comes to Sol to seek marriage to Zwaantie. This marriage would create an alliance between the two worlds. Will Zwaantie give up on her love for Phoenix and go to live in Stella never seeing the sun again?
This book ends in a cliffhanger and I cannot wait until the next part is released to see how this story continues. You definitely want to read this book!
I volunteered to read an arc for a review.
