It was the virus in the tomatoes that decimated much of the human race, which led in turn to the Inlanders (the supernatural races) being outed. Now they co-exist with humans and like the mortals, some are good and others are very bad. Rachel, a witch, is one of the supernatural entities that try to do what is right even if she has demons marks from working with them and her souls is black scum. If she dies before it is removed, she will go straight to the place where the demons live.

One morning the powerful demon Newt tries to possess her because he wants something she has. His keeper Minias comes to take him home but he needs Rachel's help. She gives it in return for him wearing her mark which means he has to do a favor for her when she asks for it. The FIB needs her help with the death of three werewolf women. Vampires and weres want the focus, a statue that changes humans into weres. Rachel has it but has no intention of giving it to either side because it would change the balance of power and alter civilization. The master vampire of the city is gunning for her as it was her testimony that put him in jail. When the demon Al flees to earth, he has a score to settle with Rachel and makes a deal with the elf Trent, a criminal mastermind. If she isn't careful, Rachel could be killed by any one of these beings or the two wolf packs who want the statue.

Kim Harrison is one of the best writers of supernatural fantasy with great action-scenes and a fascinating heroine that has a heart of gold an even if her soul is a little dirty because she was forced to deal with demons. The support cast especially Ivy the living vampire, Junx the pixy, and Ceri the elf, add an extra dimension to the storyline as they watch Rachel's back and love her in spite of her stubborn nature.

I will not do a sysnopsis of the book. Everyone can scan the back cover of this fabulous read. I do praise the author taking risks with her characters. I liked the dark thread and tone. Rachel's work takes her down dark paths and there are consequences. That is not to say it does not have its chuckle moments. I never tire of hearing Jenks blaspheme Tinkerbell.

I send many kudos to the author for her plot twists and possibly moving characters in directions others may not see them going in. Doesn't that make a story delicious? When you go "OMG I can't believe that character did that!" I give this book a two thumbs up...one of her best.

It's hard to believe that I've spent this long on a series where I don't even like the main character (Rachel), but for some reason I just keep going back. I think it has something to do with such an indepth and extraordinary world Harrison created. Not to mention the bad guys aren't always the bad guys and sometimes we even forget they are the bad guys! I know, that's crazy talk, but true. Even stranger, is the fact that I've come to like Rachel in this novel. She's much more vunerable and life-like in this installment.

This is where I normally sum up what this novel is about, but to be perfectly honest with you, I would perfer not to. I would hate to give anything away. Suffice it to say this book seems to be the turning point in the story-the penticle of what will change Rachel for all times.

Happy reading!

By far the best in a great series. I couldn't put this book down! Loads of action of course but I think what made this book different was the level of emotion carried through the book. Piscary coming back onto the scene really sets things up for a tragic outcome, but also, strangely settles a few things too. I happen to like Ivy and I'm waiting to see what balance is established between her and Rachel. They clearly love each other, and I don't think it matters what label you want to slap on it. Both of them need each other and I think they both see that in this book. Ivy has a real chance to become the person she wants to be, and I can't wait to see what happens and the changes that this brings about between her and Rachel. Maybe Ivy will see that she's stronger then she thinks that she is. Ivy and Rachel end up sharing the loss of someone very important to both of them in an absolutely horrific fashion and that alone brings a new level of understanding and caring with it. I was stunned.

All of the characters come off as even more interesting then usual and I can't wait for the next installment.

This series just keeps getting better and better. Adrenalin junkie Rachel Morgan does it again with kick-a attitude on the surface, and a vulnerable girlie side beneath. She can wipe the floor with an inderlander on one page, then wonder what to wear to a wedding on the next. She can combine a feminine lace dress with knee--high combat boots because her foot hurts and the shoes are comfy. She can date a vampire, face down a demon . . . and still lose her driver's license. Cast spells and make brownies in the same kitchen. And she seems to be getting stronger in her magical abilites, though no one knows exactly why . . . YET.

I didn't want this book to end, and have become a real fan.

I recommend that new readers start with the first book in this series and work your way though Rachel's life. You'll like her more and more with each new cover.

I sure do !!!

This is the first book of this author that I have read. Normally I try to avoid reading one book in a series if I have not read the preceeding books in the series, but happened to get it and thought I would read it to see if the series would attract me.

I do not normally read this type of book and this book did nothing to change my mind. It seemed to be pretty complex with a lot of plots and themes going on. Probably missed some of the plot and ideas because of picking a book in the middle of a series.

Think that those who like the sort of thing as vampires etc... will have read and enjoyed this book.

I picked up the first Harrison book purely by chance. I had read all the other books in a different series and was too impatient to wait for a next and remembered seeing Kim Harrison's name under the "Those who bought this, also bought these" section when looking at other books. So I picked up the first book and was instantaneoulsy HOOKED. I bought this book the day it came out. I was on my way for vacation and made the driver stop at the book store so I could pick it up I was that impatient.

I LOVE this book. I have read it so many times and have never been able to put it down. The writing is just fantastic and the characters are so likeable that you really get to know them all and start to think like you know them.

For anyone that has not read this book yet however... I seriously cried during this one.

Normally once you get past a certain point in a plot, the story line starts to fizzle out, but this isn't one of them!! For A Few Demons More was my favorite book in this series, it had moments that had me chuckling, moments where I was writing down Jenks cuss words for future usage around small ears, and a tear jerker moment. If you had any doubts about buying this book, drop them, go buy the book and the grande vanille latte and enjoy!!!

For A Few Demons More by Kim Harrison is the fifth novel in her Rachel Morgan supernatural fantasy/horror series. Rachel Morgan is a witch who lives in the Kentucky suburbs of Cincinnati in a post-apolcalyptic world. In this novel, Rachel tries to find a serial killer, tries to prevent a war between werewolves and vampires, and tries to stay a few steps ahead of drug dealing elves and very dangerous demons.

Well, that is the really short summation of the plot anyway. ;-)

What do I like about this series?

The world building is first rate - the alternate Earth where Rachel lives is a fascinating place, with its various intelligent races such as witches, vampires, werewolves, elves, and pixies living and/or working alongside regular humans.

Harrison is great at making vivid and interesting characters. You deeply care about what happens to Rachel, Ivy, Jenks, and the supporting cast.

Harrison is also willing to do what she must in service of her plot and story. In this novel she kills off a very likable character - and she does not shy away from showing the pain and fallout of that death in the lives of the other characters.

I think that her writing has become better and richer with each novel in this series.

I virtually had to catch my breath with the book.

Rachel Morgan is up to vampire made thigh high boots in this installation, from unrequited love, to her boyfriend, to her pack, and back again.

Kim Harrison, pressed the go button and drops you right back into The Hallows of Cincy, and keeps you there for the entirety of the book.

A tighter plot couldn't have been woven on a loom.

The characters, Rachel, Kisten, Ivy, Skimmer, Jenks (My Favorite), David and a new addition to my fav list;(Minias) make you love or hate, but it doesn't matter because either way, it's not wasted emotions.

The book is filled with everything one could want, witches, elves, pixies, demons, vampires, murder, mystery, sex, elation, anger, some butt kicking and grief.

This book was worth the price, twice over.

Thank you, Kim Harrison.

This was a very good follow up to Kim Harrison's last book. I had to work on reading it extra slow so I didn't finish it. The ending was definitely a surprise. I didn't see that coming AT ALL. Newt is a riot and so is Al. I definitely enjoy Jenks. When he is in the storyline, I'm thoroughly entertained.

The character of Rachel is at times quite aggravating but that just encourages me to believe that Kim Harrison knows how to pull that emotion and feeling out of you because she is an excellent writer.

Keep up the good work, kharrison! I look forward to your next book!

I warn anyone who is thinking about picking up this series. Simply, don't do it! Honestly, how can any editor publish this? I was looking for a new series to put into my collection and saw all the average 4 star ratings so I picked the series up. I was hoping for a good story plot that could stand on its own without sex. What I found was book after book of the same thing. Rachel Morgan getting in WAY over her head, ticking everyone off, someone coming into rescue her, and then after making a fool of herself everything goes back to the way it was. All that's diffrent is Rachel has one more thing to complain about and is sporting a few bruises. If this was the real world I would NEVER become Rachel's friend, she only gets them emotionally tortured or killed! It's ridiculous! And what does Kim Harrison chalk it up to? Rachel needing danger to get her blood pumping!?! Then to make matters worse Harrison tries to throw relationships into the mix and surprise, suprise those turn out disasterous too. I was hoping that Harrison was going to end up pairing Rachel and Trent together, but that hope was killed when Harrison turned Trent into a character that readers can no longer like! And besides that for 5 books running Harrison still doesn't seem to be able to make up her mind if Rachel is bi-sexual or not. The only realistic ending to this series is Rachel finally getting killed. Try another series and don't waste your time on this one.

When I started this series, I loved it however, with each book it has just gotten progressively worse. It is time to call it quits.

I was hoping that after A Fist Full of Charms, the main character, Rachel, would be better written but I actually think she's worse. The woman is stupid!

The author makes lots of mistakes that a first time writer does, like continually using the same descriptive phrases. After reading about her tucking a red curl behind her ear for the umpteenth time, I said that's it, no more. The author is so fixated on everyone's hair, there is hair mentioned on every 2 or 3 pages....seriously!! Then...there are the typos and glaring mistakes (like eye color) that it is apparant, the editor was having a really bad day when they read this.

It's really sad though, because this series has the potential to be so good. Ms Harrison would be a good writer if she can work past using the same phrases and words over and over again and learn how to develop her characters. I really don't understand how so many people can give it 5 stars. If you ever read a really well written book, (Try the Black Dagger Brotherhood for one), you will never read anything written like this again.

Rachel Morgan is a red-haired witch, bounty hunter, and talented street-fighter. Rachel owes favors to several demons--the resulting demon marker she wears on her wrist make other witches flinch. Fortunately she has earned the respect of the FIB, the local police force, which assists her to earn some money as a preternatural consultant.

This installment starts in the middle of the action when Rachel is dealing with an unexpected visit from Newt, one of the demons to whom she owes a favor. Rachel's unwilling dealings with demons and her employment as sometime body guard for local business man/drug lord Trent Kalamack, cause her to spend more time with Ceri, an elf who used to be the slave of a demon and therefore has the inside scoop. We see more sides of Ceri in this book which enhances the story. Rachel's business partner Jenks continues to harass Rachel about her slutty clothes but always has her back in a pinch. Her other business partner, Ivy, has earned Rachel's friendship and perhaps bi-curious love. The sexy vampire boyfriend, Kisten, plays a small but hot part in this installment.

Ultimately this book is a continuation of the former book, as the plot revolves around how to dispose of the Focus, a magical artifact that could cause warfare between vampires and demons. Reading the previous books is a must due to the complexity of the characters and the world they inhabit. Harrison remains true to form, with a believable fun hero and sidekicks, a fascinating mystery to solve, plenty of romantic angst and risky negotiations with demons to avoid being dragged off into demon slavery. Keep them coming Kim!

I enjoyed reading this edition of the Rachel Morgan series. Some old questions were answered and new ones raised. Rachel is still sorting out her relationship with Ivy, loses a love, and gains some insight into her own heart.

More insight into the world of demons and some reflections on who are truly the most demonic. The demons who are true to their nature or the ones who hide their evil under another guise.

Jenks and his family have new adventures and Jenks is facing his own mortality. Ceri shows some new talents. And there is even a brief glimpse into Kelsey's past.

Harrison gives answers and raises new questions for all the characters. Have we really seen the last of Nick? Will Ivy take over for Piscary? And what about Matalina?

I am look forward to the next in the series. I don't think all the demons are in the everafter and elves are not always what they seem. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Til the next book... L.W.

I have loved the first four books of this series, but this one...I just struggled to finish. I even ended up skimming the last 100 pages.

First off I am SICK of the Ivy/Rachel in love subplot. I never really cared much for Ivy from the start but was willing to put up with a very boring character because I liked all the other characters. But with each passing book this romantic subplot gets more page time. And it's BORING. Ivy's in love with Rachel, Rachel may be in love with Ivy and therefore has to discuss her confused feelings with every other character in the book. I was so tired of the storyline that I just lost interest in the book. I didn't even care when there was a character death.

I hope this boring subplot fades from existance (wishful thinking) but it's ruining this fun series for me. I'm starting to find Rachel irritating and it's never a good sign when I start disliking the main character. The actual mystery of the book and the new storylines that are being picked up are interesting and intriguing. It's just too bad it got bogged down by a boring subplot.

This book is not the best in the series, but is still better than most paranormal/romance/mystery novels. It is right up there with the Sookie Stackhouse series. I admire Kim Harrison's courage in this book, to shake up the plot line; I won't say more so that I do not spoil the ending.

I love this series and even bought the hardcover book with a "to heck with the expense" attitude. I always torn for us thrifty ones, when a good author moves into the hardcover status. I liked the book and even the plot up until about the last 100 pages. After that I when huh??

A person Rachel loves/ed is dead. She was involved with him, plus she was there when it happened, but she is just going to let it go because she can't remember and that's that? What about the 'bloody hand-print' clue left behind? It is just vampire politics and who cares who killed him? Can one say 'set-up to take the fall for his death?'.

Jinks does something very much against her, ethics wise, if nothing else, at the end and she is upset for maybe a min. and then o.k. with it. I can understand her cutting Jinks some slack but Trent got a person she knew and liked to commit suicide. She can't have Trent really mad at her for something he actually got caught doing even after he attempted to steal from her and was going to erase her memory of it? Is she is trying to control her inner demon and be more mature and maybe even think things out, or is she just beaten and giving-up? Hopefully next year she will have gotten her spine back and address the obvious upcoming issues before they kick her butt... looking forward to the next one but will probably wait until it comes out in paperback.

Ms. Harrison has created a complex and believable world in her Hollows series with a large cast of complex characters. As this is the first in the series to be published in hardcover, readers unfamiliar with this wonderful series should be aware that no effort is made to recap previous books or to introduce characters and their relationships to each other. So, fine as this book is, it's not the place to start your exploration. Having said that, I highly recommend this series. Ms. Harrison's Hollows easily matches the worlds created by Laurell Hamilton and Charlaine Harris and stands firmly between them stylistically; so, if your looking for something without explicit sex ala Ms. Hamilton (although this is hardly a sex free zone...) and scarier and more action filled then Ms. Harris, you've found what you're looking for.

I really do hate it when books make me cry. I've never before wanted an author to use a stupid literary device like magically turning back time, but I desperately wanted it here. But I think this must be what makes this series so devastatingly brilliant-- unlike the banally adolescent drivel we see in the most recent Anita Blake books, Harrison manages to write fantasy that is real and gut-wrenching. No one is safe in this world, not even Rachel. Harrison handles Rachel's self-conscious slide into moral murkiness with precision and poignancy. It's never been easy to tell the good guys from the bad in this series, and it only gets more difficult with this book. I don't know where to even begin imagining how Harrison will resolve the biggest questions that this book leaves us with--there's just too many options available. Me, I guess I'm still hoping for that time thing...

I read the first book and thought it was good enough to order the whole series and I am so glad I did! The second was better than the first, then the third was tied. The fourth was great, and I was wondering how the fifth would go. Oh my god, the last 150 pages are so intense that I read them in one sitting. I finished the book thinking, "I have to wait till March to get the next book..."

This series keeps getting better, and with the realizations that Rachel has come to at the end of the book hint that she will become a dynamic character in the next few. I am happy to say that Rachel will evolve as a character that is strong and interesting.... plus, she's cute and quirky.

Ends with things wrapped up, but enough untied to leave some more stories to come.

I was a big fan of this series for the first three books. The characters were complex, the plot was interesting, and the romance was enough to be fun, but it wasn't the focus of the book. The last two books, including this one, however, have not been as good.

In this book, the plot was disjointed and not terribly interesting, although there were a lot of good elements. The werewolf deaths could have been a good mystery for Rachel to explore, but she didn't seem too interested in them. David was going through incredibly changes because of the were curse, but Rachel barely seemed to notice. The murder of her lover happened off camera and thus lost a lot of emotional impact. And there's way too much angst about Rachel refusing to admit her romantic love for Ivy. And why does she need to slobber over every man she meets? That gets a little old.

There's also a definite lack of charms and cool magic. The previous books were full of these, but in this story, Rachel mostly sticks to demons and her stained soul. I really miss her cooking stuff up in her kitchen and making cool devices that are later used in the plot.

The author is very talented and clearly capable of good plots and character developments. I just think she can do better!

After being a little disappointed with book 4 (A Fistful of Charms (Rachel Morgan, Book 4)), this book was a nice surprise. Kim Harrison takes us back to the Hollows, and give us the fast paced, action packed book we all hoped for.

For a Few Demons More starts where books 3 and 4 stopped. We get both the Elven/Demons storyline and the werewolf focus artifact. Mixing with all this, we get Ivy, Kristen and Rachel relationship, Piscardi, 2 werewolf packs, Trent and his not-so-lovely fiance, FIB, a bit of the I.S., and an occult demon cult that marks its presence very briefly by the sideline (maybe a small hanger for book 6 ???).

On this book you will, of course, see a lot more about demons. Newt will pay Rachel a visit, with very interesting results (and maybe another cliff hanger). Al will show up under the sun (literally) along with Lee. Even tho they are not necessarily the focus of the story, the demons are definitely what will get the ball rolling, and you will see then all over the book.

Some people might think this book is too short to encompass all Harrison put into it. I, for one, enjoyed it very much, and definitively recommend it. I can't say this is the best book of the series, since I save that distinction for Dead Witch Walking (Rachel Morgan, Book 1), but this is a serious runner for the second place.

From all the cliff hangers we can see in this book, we can expect a sixth book.

I have been reading and keeping this dearly loved series since the beginning and anxiously awaited the arrival of this hardback I had on pre-order. Very disappointed with two elements: One was the theme of dual-sexuality, no problem with that; but get on with it. It's just like an embarassing moment that is never smoothed over. Second was with the the ending. He was one of my favorite characters and I was stunned when he was killed off. Sorry I gotta sign off these series for the future. I like a little romance to go with my paranormal. Kim Harrison is a very talented author and has created a magical universe but this is taking on the tone of the MJL / Anita series.

When I first started reading these books, Rachel was a heroine to get behind and hope that nothing bad happens to her. Five books later, I'm enjoying all the crazy moves she makes to bring on the fantastic trouble she continually stumbles into. If it weren't for her partners, Ivy and Jenks, she would have died more than a dozen times. Rachel has developed quite nicely throughout the series and the stories are creatively original. The only thing that would make this supernatural series better is if Ms. Harrison would give us a book from the viewpoint of Ivy, her most complex and mysterious character.

This entire series rocks!!! Pick them up and you can't put them down. The cast of characters are memorable and believable. I had given up on urban fantasy, Laurel K Hamilton will do that to you. (that's called fair warning folks)

However Kim Harrison saved the day. I have all the Rachel Morgan books and have my calender marked as to when I can get the next one coming out. The plots MOVE.. and in unexpected ways at times. While relationships are there, Ms. Harrison doesn't let it become the whole story (thank the goddess for that!)

This books are a must read for all urban fantasy fans!!

I only discovered this series a month ago, and at first I was very impressed. The first three books were excellent, well plotted, descriptive, an imaginative new universe, I was pleased to find a new series that I liked (after the Anita Blake series went completely down the toilet). I have been reading them back to back. I was surprised to find book four moving out of the Cincinnati environment, and I began to feel that Ms Harrison was losing control of her plot (why was Ivy waiting on the dock? why did Rachel insist on being in the truck with Peter when we never hear from him again?), but still, there was some good character development (I love Jenks). Book 5 started well, but then went completely down hill. The plot almost doesn't make sense, several characters are reduced to cardboard walk-ons, and there are several jarring editing errors. Rachel is not even behaving consistently any more, and by the end of the book I was really starting to lose interest in this series. I will try book 6, but if it is the same then I think that's it for me.

I really regret buying this, but my library didn't have it. I just felt sick of the whole world that was created. Ivy and Rachel can be frustrating at times. Some readers love them and I just think why are the even working/living together still. The whole Kisten storyline I felt was dragged on and on through this book and then it just concludes. Eh The hollows was great books 1 through 3 but this just had me skimming pages to get through it.

I like the world, I even like the lead Rachel, and I'm interested in how the various intertwined love lives will resolve - but this book needed a tough editor to do the following: rip out 200 pages of pap, get the tension back into Rachel's decisions between her male lover, and wannabe female lover, remove the obvious plot devices that were something of an insult to the reader, and get the fear factor back into things. Rachel deals so casually with demons that will take her soul, yet is more concerned about a glance at a taunt set of buttocks that when it happens, it grates, then irritates, then finally insults the reader. It could and should have been better than this!

I could not wait for this book to get released in Australia so I had to buy from the USA via the store. I checked the mail twice a day till it landed. Well worth the wait as we see the resolution of several hanging aspects that have been begging to be expanded or put to rest. Kim's (pardon my familiarity, but I feel we can be on first name basis now by her 5th book) writing puts me right into the charactors and I can see them all in my mind's eye. I like the way this book also links to the next book with more adventure and new, unknown players entering and yet this also leaves me content with Rachel's life by the last page. A brilliant writer with an unique style.

I have followed Rachel Morgan's adventures from the beginning and I have definitely enjoyed the journey. I also liked her latest tale For A Few Demons More. The story started off rather slow as Rachel was once again in emotional turmoil over her feelings for Ivy. Get over it! Accept that you're bi-sexual and move on. That being said, however, since Ms. Harrison is starting to kill off her supporting characters I wish she would kill off Ivy. I haven't liked this character from book 1 and 4 books later my opinion hasn't changed. She's just too emotionally needy and weak and thankfully she was missing from most of FAFDM. Jenks is my favorite character and if something ever happened to him, I'll quit reading the series. This was a much darker, more convoluted book and I felt Rachel made even more stupid choices than normal, but overall, it was a good addition to the series. If you haven't read the previous books however, you will be lost.

All the charaters that once-were interesting, are boring/anoying here. In the first few books I liked Ivy, and in the last book I liked her a little more, but here she blew. Her "girlfriend" is a bitch to Rachel, and they all know she's jealous of Rachel (erhm, why???) yet Ivy still lets her stay at their house (church, really). Jenks is just boring here, where he was absolutely FABULOUS in the previous book. Rachel is unbelievably self-pitying. I only got a little over half way through the book until i just had to STOP. the only thing that had kept me reading it was the hopes of reading some good Trent Kallamack scenes. After over half the book, we'd still only seen him, what, twice? for a very short time. I don't know why this book got so many good reviews. The writing is poor and it apears that no one bothered to edit it. example: "His eyes were blue - no brown" or something like that. Things like that appear ALL OVER THE PLACE. Also, Rachel acts like a whore by having to tell us how sexy EVERY guy is. really. yuck. Sorry to write such a negative review, but after seeing that its overall rating is 5 and a half stars (come on people, its not THAT good!!) I felt i had to share my opinion on how BAD this book is. I'm not going to bother with the next in the series, or anything else from this author, in the future. You want some truly GOOD WRITING? Go read Kelley Armstrong. She's earned her fame.

Usually by the time a series reaches this point, the author seems to have a formula that they follow. X happens, followed eventually by Y, and then a twisty Z at the end. Not so with Kim Harrison.

In this book she reminds the reader exactly how dangerous the strange new world she created can be. It was especially satisfying to see the somewhat self centered and a bit immature main character finally start to grow up and realise exactly what her actions mean to others and that she is not alone in the maelstrom.

The worst thing about this story is that there are some rather interesting loose ends still out there and that it is going to be some time before we see the next book.

I've followed this series for awhile now and was really excited to learn a new book was coming out. When I got For A Few Demons More, I had high expectations for it. I am thrilled to say, I was not disappointed... In fact, all my expectation were very much surpassed. Once I began reading I simply could not put the damn book down. I won't give anything away, but if you're a fan of Harrison's Rachel Morgan series, you'd better get this book. So far I think it's her best work. Many past issues are resolved and the storyline develops extremely well. There is a great sense of closure to this story while leaving more than enough room for future endeavors in this series.

My only complaint is now I have to wait around for the next book... There's gonna be another... Right?

Let me just tell you, that I stumbled upon Kim Harrison's books about adventuresome and loveable Rachel Morgan and her life in the Hollows by complete accident.....and I am SO glad I did! This last book opens up doors for some very interesting future plot-lines that I just can't wait to read. Really, if you like Kim Harrison (or people of the like: Charlaine Harris, L.K. Hamilton BEFORE she became obsessed with freaky, promiscuous sex) you will LOVE this series. I actually felt that this installment was the most amusing and at the same time heart-wrenching of them all so far...great job Kim!

While the main characters and the world of this series are still very attractive, the increasingly dark tone of this series make it less satisfying. Rachel is a good character, who is both capable and vulnerable, and her supporting cast is appealing and colorful. The world, with its demons, witches, vampires and werewolves remains a dangerous place with occasional and pleasing glints of humor; but the outcome of various plots is getting more and more noir-ish.

Kim Harrison's latest book is an excellent addition to her already impressive collection. It's complex enough to be interesting, but not enough to be confusing. It has THE perfect balance of plot, action and drama. There's very little information written into her books that has no meaning or bearing on the plot, so multiple re-reads is a must! For a Few Demons More is obviously Kim's best work yet, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Kim Harrison has been delivering some really excellent stories in her alternate reality fantasy series about Rachel Morgan, a witch in a modern world of recently revealed magic and still raw political upheaval. I've enjoyed every book so far, and look forward eagerly to the next volume. As every dedicated reader knows, one of the most important elements of any story or series is the hero or heroine, and Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan is an example of how to craft one that will keep readers coming back for more time after time. She's canny, strong, impulsive, stubborn, and has a strong moral compass, and has such a good heart that you can't help but follow her adventures and cheering her on. Ms. Harrison has also crafted an alternate modern world that is intriguing and detailed to the point that you feel you've been visiting a foreign country with eerie resemblances to our own. I rate this series very highly, and this most recent volume does not disappoint. Great reading!

I've really been enjoying this series by Kim Harrison. She has a gift for characterization unlike most authors I've read, her voice is strong and edgy, and her stories resonate for me. I love all the characters she's created, and though sorry to see one of them go (and not sorry to see the demise of another), I totally get it for the purpose of the series. It makes sense to me. It made me cry, but it still made sense.

It's just too bad that the hardback version happens to be the weakest book from an editorial standpoint. It appears Kim's editor abandoned her and didn't catch the redundancies, inconsistencies, and contradictions. While reading, it was a challenge to overlook some obvious goofs, but I got past it. I just hope Kim's editor chooses not to ignore the importance of good editing in the next book. Best selling authors shouldn't have to suffer from editorial neglect.

I won't recap the plot because that's already been done quite enough. Some spoilers have even been given away. I will only say that I enjoyed this latest installment very much and ate up every page as fast as I could turn them. Rachel manages to get herself into a worse situation with every book and I can't wait to see how it all turns out.

My only two issues were the way the ending was handled and the situation between Rachel and Ivy. The former I thought would have been more impactful if seen as-it-happened, though I understand why the author didn't handle it that way. The latter...well, some kind of action on someone's part would be nice.

A final note, even though hardbacks are more expensive and they're much harder to manage when you read in bed like I do, I'm still all about the Hollows and will buy every one.

I've been reading this series since the beginning. Love the story line, love the heroine's attitude. Rachel's a tough, smart & savvy witch that's not afraid to get her hands a little dirty. And who knew pixies could be so dangerous? I can't wait to see where the series goes.

Right?

These books outline a universe/society that could not exist.

Not, you understand, that i'm referring to the fantasy elements - those are a given.

No, i mean that the history Harrison has outlined for her world is impossible.

She doesn't mention it much, but this is a world where,

(A) the great Powers went in more for biological sciences than physical sciences, which means the space program didn't happen. Which means that the integrated circuits and other technology necessary to build PCs and cell phones and a lot of other stuff quite probably never came into existence - or certainly not nearly so fast as it did in our world. But Harrison shows us a world identical to ours in technology.

(B) the plague that struck thirty or forty years ago wiped out forty percent of the world's human population - but the development of popular culture (allowing for added elements introduced by open participation of inderlanders) is the same as ours. If 40% of the world's populace was wiped out within the lifespans of people like Sting, Paul McCartney,Bono, Ray Davies and Pete Townshend - just to name five that come to mind who were all Very Influential in shaping modern popcult as they come to mind at random - the odds say that at least two of those wouldn't be around or have been around to influence popcult.

and

(C) Tomatoes. (As i sit here eating a spicy rice recipe of my own invention, made with salsa.) Tomatoes are too firmly embedded in the world cuisine to be shunned that widely, that quickly. No matter what. Consider Mad Cow disease - have the Brits stopped eating beef?

However, because these are such fun books, i've willingly drunk the koolaid and gone along since the first, ignoring that part of my mind that reflexively twitches whenever the tomato thing comes up...

An interesting historical point: The Hollows is right across the river from Cincinatti Ohio. How many are aware of the history of Covington Kentucky, which is what's actually there?

Covington, historically, was where Organised Crime set up shop to supply the Good Citizens of Cincy with vice, gambling and bootleg booze, in accord with a deal with the "reform" politicians and "honest" cops who ran Cincy, so that the Cincinatti powers-that-be could point out how clean Cincinatti was, but the Good Folk who didn't want Organised Crime in their city could still get what it offered. (Rather like Tijuana and Phenix City Alabama, atually.)

Back in its heyday, Covington, rather like the Hollows, was a place where straights from across the river could find what they wanted, and were relatively safe as long as they stayed "on the reservation", so to speak, but were liable to meet a mischief if they wandered into other parts of town...

I'll keep this short and sweet. One of the best Hallows books yet, at times both laugh out loud funny and so gripping you can't put it down. Harrison's talent of meshing wit and suspense while continuing to develope and improve her characters really shines in this book. If you like the Hallows series, you won't be disappointed with this book at all. :)

I've been a fan of Kim Harrison since I read "Dead Witch Walking" and I could hardly wait for this one to come out.

And Dear Gods! it was well worth the wait!

The plotline takes some unexpected (ok, for me) turns.

We get to see more of Ceri, and to all who have just started to like Trent - don't be so quick on your judgement...:)

Like demons? Well, this is the book for you then:)Anybody ever thought what Newt's familiar would have to be like?

The storyline itself is getting more and more complex. Rachel's relationships with both Ivy and Kisten are evolving, too. Rache'll have to make some hard choices and others will be made for her.

Also, I haven't had a book make me cry in years. I'm not saying more, 'cause I wouldn't want to spoil anybody's fun.

In conclusion, I'd say this IS PROBABLY THE BEST book in the series. If you haven't bought it yet, DO SO. Then read it in a night or two and start waiting impatiently for the next installment in the series.

Wow, the way Kim Harrison writes in this book is amazing not only do you have a really strong ending it leaves you hooked for the next book. I read it in about a week and at the end of that week I was pulling my hair out 'cause I wanted to read the next one to see what happens to the main characters relating to the ending of this book. A lot happens good and bad, but it always caries on the relationship between good and evil, even though it is starting to turn into shades of gray for Rachel.

This has to be the best Hallows novel yet! Things pick up a few months after the last book. Things are not looking too good for Birthday Girl Rachel Morgan. Not only is she assigned to do a body guard job for Trent's wedding, but there is more mayhem then ever when Newt gets loose as well as Al. Than everything goes to hell for poor Rachel when word gets out that Piscary was set free. Some birthday! With her relationship with Kisten growing more and more and her friendships start to go at risk of ending will Rachel be able to survive all the heartache and the death threats from her numerous "friends"? You'll have to read this book to find out those answers. The ending will leave you will breathless!

Kim Harrison and her Hollows series is a wonderful addition to the modern urban fantasy genre. I've liked her books from the beginning, and this her newest is no exception.

'For a Few Demons More' is a very good book, well written, with a good, well developed plot. Harrison tells a good story, with a believable heroine. The supporting cast, and the villains are also well developed, interesting, and intelligent. The book surprises you, and keeps you wondering how things are going to turn out.

Many similar books by other authors of this genre are rather sadly lacking. Many have weak plots, poorly developed characters, and/or unimginative stories. None of this is the case with this author or this book. More authors should take a lesson from Harrison on how to balance story, plot, romance, sex, and action. Because, Kim Harrison does a wonderful job at this. Her books, including this one, contain so much. There is much more substance and entertainment value available from this book than many others.

Well, first I'll let you know that the "worst" part relates to loss of admired character. No, I will not give it away. Best one of the series, even considering I've read the next one. Rach lets go and accepts some of her personal quirks. I cannot wait for the next book! I'd give it 5 stars, but it's not up to the standard of one of my favorites in the fantasy arena (Laurell Hamilton).

An action movie could not have had more fights or suspense than this novel. Though a relative new-comer to Kim Harrison's work, I noticed that the violence was larger and closer to home than in her last novel. That, combined with a shift in the main character's psyche, makes this a must-read for new-comers and longtime fans.

This is not the best one that she has wrote. The ending was hurried and forced.

I always enjoy Jenks and Ceri is fun but moody.

But the ending really was not put together well and was left with a bunch of odd holes and questions. I was even wondering if some of the pages were missing cause i felt I did not have some information i should have gotten.

Will buy more just for Jenks..... but if he dies ... that is it.

I got turned onto Kim Harrison about two and a half years ago while walking aimlessly around the bookstore to kill time. That fateful visit has given me love and addiction for her, JR Ward, LA Banks, and Laurell K. Hamilton. I swear, I go into a panic if I can't get their paperbacks on the first day they're released in that format!

That being said, I have to say that this is, to me, by far the best in the whole series so far. The depth and range of the emotions that I felt reading it were so much more than in the other books. I really felt like I was going through everything that Rachel was going through. The worst part, though, was the death of Kisten. Even though I was knew it was coming (though I was trying not to admit it to myself and I was holding out hope that it wasn't true), it still seemed to blindside me and hit me in the gut. I very rarely cry at books, but this had be bawling. It was almost as if I was experiencing the death of my boyfriend. What made things worse for me was the extra short story at the end where he was alive and with Rachel...it seemed almost unintentionally cruel to publish that after you had just "witnessed" his death. I would have thought it more appropriate for perhaps the ending of the last book.

Anyway, just my two cents on the subject! Superb book and I wish it were next year so I can have another one to tear through! :)

For a Few Demons More (Rachel Morgan, Book 5)

for those of us looking for some one to replace the old Anita Blake-- she has arrived. Rachel Morgan is the bomb she has it all the magic the baddies and the we can't forget the awsome pixie Jenks he and his 54 kids can add some comic relief. these books have it all. The Hallows is a well thought out setting for all of these well written action packed adventures to happen.

This book is fantastic! Kim Harrison writes fast paced stories with plenty of plot twists. I own every book in The Rachel Morgan series and I would certainly recommend the series to everyone. I eagerly await each new book in the series. You can't help but find the characters fascinating. I tend to get so caught up in the story that I can't put the book down even though it is past time for bed. I'd rather drag all day at work then stop in the middle of one of Kim Harrison's stories! I guess as an author, you can't please everyone. As a reader though, it always makes me sad and disappointed when a series I like leaves me unsure whether I care to even continue with the series should more books come out. This was not my favoite series, but I liked it, and right up til the end I was thinking this was probably the best of its books yet. I read another review that mentioned people applauding the author for having the guts to kill off a main character, and I would have thought I would be one to do that too, but apparently not. I suspect the reason the main characters, at least the good ones, don't get killed off, is because it generally makes the readers mad to become invested in the life of this character only to have it abruptly end. If she wanted to be really daring, why not kill off Ivy? Then we wouldn't have to endure all the characters worrying about what poor Ivy thinks, and shaping their lives over what Ivy wants. There are only 5 books and Rachel has already lost two boyfriends, I guess we know what is bound to happend next.

To spend this much on a book thats only bonus is that it is signed, is not a great idea. If you go to her web site you can order a book directly from her thats already signed or you can send her one that you have bought to be signed. This is the 5th book in the Hollows series and I think the best so far. There was plenty of action. The storyline was moved forward nicely. Kim Harrison blends action, romance and drama together in a way that makes you feel totally engaged.

I really enjoy the world Ms. Harrison has created, although I must admit Rachel makes me exhausted sometimes just reading about her crazed life. The beginning and middle of this book were once again enjoyable, I mean no matter how bad life gets who can be too upset when a pixy puts your life into perspective for you.

I like the dynamic between Rachel and Ivy, but to me sometimes Ceri's mood swings get annoying. The book was moving along well until, as a few other reviewers have mentioned, I got to the last few chapters. The ending was completely uncalled for. Although I really have enjoyed the series up until this point due to the ending I don't want to continue it anymore.

For sure, Ms Harrison's strengths are in world building and character development. But the continuation of Ivy/Rachel living together situation story arc is not going well. The tension has reached its peak. I am not sure there is a satisfying way out of this mess. They need to be getting on with it or break it off in the next book. I sure hope this series doesn't jump the shark over this relationship.
