I gave this book 5 stars because I got so sucked into the story that I read it straight thru, had to know how it all turned out, who needs sleep anyway? Highly recommend it you love strong women and warm hearted cowboys!

Strange book for starters. I may write another review later when I finish the book. But I felt the author was straddling the fence between the 19th and 21st century. Dani, not normally a 19-century name. A marshall? Hmmmmm! Of course possible. Probable, maybe not. Rescuing this guy by the sheer momentum of her horse? I am a horseback rider, improbable. Strange.

"Marrying Miss Marshal" is a tight romantic suspense historical Western, with the stereotypical "when a stranger rode into town"... well, not quite! And yes, the town has a lady marshall!

Danna Carpenter is the town marshal after her husband, the original Marshall, died on duty, after being ambushed. She is perfectly capable of breaking up drunken fights as well as chasing down criminals such as cattle rustlers. But when her deputies quit, she's all alone... Until a stranger rode into town. Chas O'Grady wandered into town looking for cattle rustlers. Being rescued by the marshall from a stampede is just his luck... But he's a city slicker, Danna figured he wouldn't stay around. When criminals robbed the bank, he signed on as deputy to help out. When a snowstorm stranded them outside of town, the town council forced them to marry "for propriety", even though both seem to have their hearts set elsewhere... But there's a conspiracy in town... Why is the sheriff from out of town so eager to take over? Why did the town council fire her after giving her only three days to track down the criminals? What secrets was Chas hiding?

As you can guess, what happened to Danna's first husband was related to the whole thing. And that's all I am going to say about it. It's a fun adventure and while I think the "marriage" was a bit forced, and the plot did take a bit long, it was a fun tale nonetheless.

I really really wanted to like this story because it had common charecters of a previous book by the same auther. I loved said book & was dissapointed when I read the last page. When I found this book I excitedly started reading but quickly found that it was NOT the same caliber book at all. It just did not hold my attention. I tried, I really tried to like it, but truly, I just got bored. I'm sorry

4 1/2 stars. The characters were complex and interesting. The relationship between Danna and Chas was very nice. Their friendship and trust developed gradually but the attraction was always there. Both of them had difficult things to overcome. The criminal case they had to solve was interesting and provided an excellent framework for the romance. The story was a very well done 'PG', but I wished for a little '13' added to it.

I like cowboy stories and if you throw romantic scenes in, it's a winner!

The story is light to read, but I struggled to put the book down.

I just had to know what happened in the end.

A good book for anyone who only started to read romantic fiction.

This may be an excellent book, but I'll never know. I tried really hard to read this, but I finally gave up. The bottom of one page had parts of the same sentences at the top of the next page, so I found myself constantly going back a page in confusion. When I reached the end of the chapter, it cut off right in the middle of a sentence. That would be when I opted to give up.

Enjoyed this book from the beginning. Constant flow of events kept me reading. A difficult book to put down.
Will look forward to reading more from this author. Even then, women were independent, paving the way for us.

It's hard for me to think that there was not one femine bone in her body. Sorry, but even a tomboy has something girlie about them. It may be a secret, but there's something. I'm also annoyed because to my knowledge the ONLY dress she puts on is BLUE. Why does the color have a tan dress? I hate inaccuracy. It also needed more fire in it. Really they get married and it was no more than luke warn. You can write plenty of sparks without offending anyone and this author didn't do it. Her style of writing just isn't for me.

"Wonder Woman" seems to me a better title for the book. It's highly unlikely that the heroine (Danna) would come out alive from all the extremely dangerous circumstances in which she found herself. Maybe a "2" rating, sorry!

Danna Carpenter is trying to fill the shoes of her late husband as town marshal. A super woman, she fights criminals, and is even earning the grudging respect of the town. So when she sees a tenderfoot about to get trampled by a cattle stampede, she thinks nothing about riding her horse into the fray, scooping the man up with one hand and tossing him behind her on the horse.

Chas O'Grady is supposed to be hunting for cattle rustlers, but not being the brightest crayon in the box, Chas is unable to obey even the simplest of instructions. "Stay here." means to step off into the pitch black darkness and fall off the cliff causing him to dislocate his shoulder. And forcing Danna into another rescue.

When the town realizes the pair has been in a "compromising position," they force them to wed. But will they survive long enough to find love?

MARRYING MISS MARSHAL is Lacy William's debut book. A super-strong heroine, a hero who is definitely the polar opposite, and a rugged Wyoming landscape come together to make this a western straight from the movies. And not a block-buster one.

Okay--I admit to some questions. There are men in town. Why didn't one of them step forward as Marshal since they didn't respect her? I won't go into the other things that crossed my mind, except to say "It's in the script" or "It's fiction..." But to me, it was unbelievable.

If you like western historical romances, then you might be interested in MARRYING MISS MARSHAL. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book.

This was a story about a female Marshal in a small western town. She had been married to the previous marshal until he was murdered then the town council offered her the position since she had been his deputy. She’s a private sort of person who didn’t let people get close to her and she was pretty good at handling the problems that a marshal runs into. The book starts out with her out riding trying to track someone when she hears a couple of gunshots then hears a herd of stampeding steers. As she looks up she sees a man on foot directly in their path and races her horse to try and save him. She manages to get to him and swing him up behind her on her horse then fights her way out of the herd. Thus starts a very different kind of romance. The behind the scenes maneuvering is a bit complicated but adds to the interest of the story.

Marrying Miss Marshall has a great combination of action, danger, and romance. I listened to this book through Audible and I had a great time following what was going on in the lives of Danna and Chas. I have enjoyed listening to this narrator before and I enjoyed most of her telling of the story. A couple of scenes where she had to read in a voice where a man was yelling were not really to my liking, but those were only a couple of times and otherwise I very much liked the narration.

This was a fun and enjoyable book. There are many misunderstandings between these two main characters. The guilt that Chas carries impacts many of his decisions. And the lack of self-confidence that Danna sometimes deals with in regards to how she feels as a woman keep her from understanding how others view her.

I thought the author did a good job of creating many twists and turns in the story and the way she tied everything up at the end was very nice. A sweet, western romance.

(4.5 stars)

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. These opinions are my own.

This was a clean historical romance that featured a very headstrong and brave heroine, Danna. She is forced into marriage to Chas after they were stranded in a snowstorm together. Both Danna and Chas grew so much individually and as a couple throughout the story!

I just finished reading this book, and I wish all writers were this talented. In Marrying Miss Marshall, the reader gets a very well written, tightly plotted book with all the things that keeps them coming back for more historical romantic fiction. Engaging, memorable characters pop off the page with action, suspense, chemistry, yearning, heartache, and that happily ever after that's better than you predicted.

Danna Carpenter is a widow, and the town Marshall for a little Wyoming town that is about to explode with crime. Chas O'Grady is a hired investigator new to town, looking into cattle rustling allegations in the area. Their paths are not only about to intersect, but their worlds are about to collide in a star-spinning, thunderstruck attraction that leaves them locked together to solve crime, and protect both the town and their reputations.

This one had me from page one. If you love strong characters, well-written prose, and a plot that keeps you guessing, this is a story you will want to savor and a wonderful new author you will want to follow.

This is Lacy's debut novel. I really enjoyed this story. Danna is a sheriff and is also a women, Chas is a detective who thinks his job is to save Danna. What I love about the story is that it is different. Danna fell into the job of sheriff after the death of her husband the previous sheriff but she is good at her job she isn't a girly girl. She enjoys her job but the some of the towns people are not so sure. Chas is a city boy but also has demons he is dealing with which makes him want to protect Danna even if she doesn't need it. I love how Lacy writes both points of view so you can see why Chas thinks like he does. Add a large dog that tends to cause alot of trouble with some of the locals, seems it has a thing for digging up rose bushes much to the owners annoyance. The book deals with subjects such as fear from past incidents, insecurities and misunderstandings. This was a wonderful book.

What happens when you cross a town marshal with a private investigator? Mystery, adventure, intrigue, and foul play--as you might have imagined. But when the town marshal is a woman, things get a lot more interesting. . .

Following her husband's suspicious death, Danna Carpenter is appointed town marshal. The problem? No man in town thinks she's capable of doing the job, nor is any man willing to work as her deputy--until Chas O'Grady wanders into town. Chas is a city slicker struggling with his past and unfamiliar with the ruggedness of the west. When Chas sees Danna's need for a deputy, he takes the job . . . and ends up acquiring much more than he bargained for.

As Danna and Chas work to solve the problem surrounding the town's missing cattle, the two confront not only their pasts, but the evil conspiracy destroying the income of the local ranchers and surrounding Danna's late husband's death.

This debut novel by Lacy Williams is a sweet romance wrapped around a mysterious conspiracy. Readers won't be disappointed. I'm looking forward to Williams' next release.

Marrying Miss Marshal is such a delight. I loved it. Fast-paced but one of the sweetest love stories I've ever read. Which is surprising when the heroine is a tall, strong, willowy girl who is tough enough to stomp out a bar brawl, ride straight into a cattle stampede to save the male hero, and then go after cattle rustlers and murderers.

Author Lacy Williams is brilliant in the way she fills out the characters, Danna Carpenter and Chas O'Grady, the tenderfoot detective that comes into town. Nothing stereotypical about these characters, but fully complex human beings with all the longings of any man and woman.

It's not just that Danna wants to fill the shoes of her late husband, the Marshall, she wants all that entails the life of a woman--love, children, learning how to be feminine.

This debut author is one that has a great career before her. Her writing is wonderful, a voice that is soft at times, but packs such an emotional punch.

I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars.

Danna, a female marshal in Wyoming Territory in 1889 struggles to earn the respect of the townspeople while she fights crime--usually singlehandedly, no thanks to the aloof folks willing to stand by and spectate. When Chas, a handsome, tenderfoot detective hunting cattle rustlers comes along, he complicates her job and awakens romantic feelings they'd both rather keep under wraps.

With a well-woven feel of the historic setting, this book was not only an entertaining and well-paced romance, but the back drop of danger, even mystery, as Danna and Chas hunt the escalating count of criminals adds an enjoyable sense of adventure. And there's plenty of plot twists along the way.

Fans of exciting historical romances will likely find this more than meets their expectations.

This is a wonderful first novel by Lacy Williams. She has a flow to her writing that keeps the reader involved in the story. I loved Danna. She is a strong and independent woman who shows no fear when it comes to the job she is commited to doing. But she hides away the softer side of herself and the fears that lie within her heart. Chas is a man who holds himself responsible for something beyond his control and carries that with him along with the hatred towards the one who really is responsible. Can he allow the Lord to be the judge and jury or will he take justice into his own hands? Will Danna find her true worth hidden behind a "mans" job and clothing? You will have to read Marrying Miss Marshal to find out. I look forward to more books by this wonderful writer.

As marshal of a rugged Wyoming town, Danna Carpenter had her hands full, especially since no one will serve as her deputy. Then citified detective Chas O'Grady comes to town and offers to team up with her if she'll help him tack down a gang of cattle rustlers. But Danna and Chas rustle up more than cattle thieves, and two loners discover that being alone isn't so inviting any more.

Lacy William's fabulous debut novel is a perfect rollicking romance set in the Old West. From the heart-pounding beginning to a heart-tugging ending, Marrying Miss Marshal will have you crying and cheering, all in a span of a few chapters. An unconventional, independent heroine clashes with an overprotective, hurting hero, and in the process, saves a town. Lawmen, rustlers, stampedes, an ugly old dog, and a romance that brings tears to your eyes, Marrying Miss Marshal has it all.

Action-packed with a courageous and unusual heroine and a chivalrous-in-spite-of-himself hero, readers will enjoy Lacy Williams's debut novel, Marrying Miss Marshal. Missing cattle, a bank robbery, a murdered husband, a runaway teen, a forced marriage, the obstacles keep piling up for Marshal Danna Carpenter, and to top it off the charming and accident-prone Chas O'Grady keeps getting in the way of her investigations. Danna and Chas are on a collision course with the bad guys and with each other. A satisfying ending awaits these two, but not until they survive a wagon-load of trouble.

This is one of those books that you will not want to put down. It is full of excitement from start to finish and you can't help but be a fan of the female Marshall Dana Carpenter as she handles her business, making a mans world her own. Though the story line is not overly focused on the romance like most, it is a perfect balance of romance and excitement from start to finish. There is no lagging whatsoever in this book. Worth the time.

I loved this book and highly recommend it to everyone who loves historical fiction. The book was so well written and told such a great story that I couldn't put it down and I didn't want it to end. There was a good balance between story and action. I enjoyed the backstories about Danna and Chas, because they really filled out the characters and made their struggles more personal. The whole concept of a woman marshal was so unique and Danna was a great character that I really admired. I also don't believe I ever read a story where the main character couldn't read, but when you think about the time period, it was probably more common than historical fiction would lead you to believe. Lacy, please tell me that you have another book in the works. I can't wait to read it!

I loved this book. The heroine is so unexpected and unusual for the old west, but Williams did an excellent job of making her real. She's tough on the outside, but deep inside she years for all the "feminine" things other women want. I highly recommend this book.
