The key to life long learning is reading. Parents and teachers must stress the importance of reading and provide engaging and fun books to read. Judy Blum's books are entertaining and captures the reader's attention. One cannot go wrong with this set!

I ordered it for my God-daughter and she loves it!!! She has already read two of her books and is so excited for her summer reading.
It came to her in new condition and arrived in plenty of time for her birthday.
I highly recommend this set and the sellers.

This seems to be an updated version of the Fudge series I read as a child. They mention CD players and all sorts of modern items we didn't have in the 80's. I thought it was neat that it was updated, but at the same time I was bummed out that my son didn't get an idea of all the cool things we had as kids.
My 7 year old related well to Fudge and his antics, which made me a little worried. This also opened up the idea of divorce to him as Jimmy's parents are divorced. My son knows about divorce but really didn't know it other then a word, so we had some conversations about what it really meant after reading these.
Be prepared to answer some normal questions about life, friendship and parenting.

I loved these books and was happy when the 8 yr. old got interested in them. He likes to read, but favors books with pictures (graphic novels). He has been reading these for over a year. He started bringing them home from the school library and then he requested more. I give the set 4 stars instead of 5 because he seemed to lose interest quicker than usual. He has gone back to these books here and there, but not as often as he rereads other series with graphics, like the Bone books or Captain Underpants books. Maybe the books are all pretty similar? I'm guessing this series is just not especially captivating for him as he prefers more action in addition to pictures.

I purchased this set for my 4th grade niece who is a great reader and getting into chapter books. I wanted to share these stories with her that I truly loved as a child. I am very happy that they are offered packaged as a set now. The price seemed reasonable to me as well. These are classics from the 1980s and I am thrilled to see the covers get fresh updates to appeal to today's generation of kids, who I hope will love these books as much as we Gen X'ers did.

Even though I'm 36, I still read this series every year for nostalgia! The only complaint I have is the covers seem a bit too thin, but thankfully the box keeps them protected. The pages are nice quality, and the print is really consistent with no fading.

I read these books as a child and my nephew has found my love of reading!! They arrived on his bday as scheduled and I've never seen a little boy more excited to be able to read to his little brothers from his fudgy books. I can't say thank you enough for making his bday do happy

Just Blumes Fudge Box Set is a treasure! My 6 and 7 year old have both started reading them and are thoroughly entertained. It's so nice to see my children enjoy the same literature that I did at their age!

Love Blume and love this set. I have 3 boys 4, 7, and 8 years old. Very applicable situations for this age group and raises questions and concerns for these ages. One negative tho....she talks about Santa and at this point my boys still believe. I caught it before reading aloud to them but would have been devastated if this is where they found out. Otherwise I highly recommend this book set.

Got this box set for my 9 year old daughter, she is in 4th grade with a reading leave of 6th grade. She needs to be able to read books fast to take AR test, she has finished 3 books in a month! She will be able to meet her AR goal and loves the books. I also like that I read all of these books at her age, so we can talk about them over dinner.

These books are as funny and engaging as I remember. My daughters and I are enjoying reading them together. My only disappointment is that they have been updated from the original to make certain tech related elements more current. Tapes have been updated to cds, camp newspapers are done on computers - that kind of thing. These changes don't alter the story in any significant way, but seem unnecessary to me. I wish they had left it alone and let the characters exist in era they were intended.

Remembering my own enjoyment of this series, I purchased the Fudge set for my daughter. She loved them. Judy Blume perfectly captures everyday kids' lives. She realistically portrays their thought processes, fears, motivations, and conflicts while always making the reader smile. Her endings are satisfying to kids because there is resolution to life's little problems. This set of books is suitable for the younger child, since the issues that the characters confront are all G-rated.

Great value, great set. My 8 year olds only complaint are the books don't have any pictures. It wouldn't hurt to just have a few pictures in the book to give young readers a visual of the characters. The same books I read as a kid did so not sure why these set didn't include them..

I read the first three of these as a kid and I bought this for my 7 year old son for Christmas this year. He loves it. I also have a 4 year old so I've been reading them aloud to them so my little one can enjoy them as well. Money well spent :-)

In 3rd grade my daughter had to have this series and read everyone quickly and loved them. She loved the characters and the names of characters and could relate what happen in the books to everyday life at school and after school activities! Easy to read and easy to understand!

When our daughter said her daughter would like a Judy Blume book for her 9th birthday, we went to the store to see what was available. We found this box set with 5 of the Fudge books for a very good price, and decided to try this online book-ordering thing. The box set arrived 2 days later, with free shipping. We really enjoy being able to get books quickly and easily.

Judy Blume is an award winning children's author and this is a quality set of her books. I purchased the set as a gift for my eight year old grandson, but have had experience in teaching these novels to eight and nine year old children in the public school system for over 20 years. They are fun books for the children to read independently, to read in groups, to to have read to them as Fudge is quite a little character! These books are also in the Accelerated Reader program.

Many people have called attention to certain changed aspects of the book to reflect a modern audience. I don't find this detracts at all. We are buying these books for our children, not for ourselves. Frankly, the children do not notice anything. I bought this for my brother who is in 3rd grade, and he absolutely loved it, next to Diary of the Wimpy Kid. He did not complain about the contemporary references. If he enjoyed it, then Judy Blume still has the power to entrance children, whatever CD, cassette or whatever it references. Fudge is a great, down-to-earth series, like Diary, that pulls kids away from television and the computer: this is an incentive to buy this for any child, in itself.

These books are a blast from *my* past. I purchased them for my 4th grade son, and he loves them! His teacher started reading a Judy Blume book to his class, and all he did was talk about 'Fudgie' - and now he has caught the bug! I purchased this box set - which comes in a little cardboard box - and he has read them all. Now my 8 year old son is reading them. Well worth the investment!

wish i had read these reviews before, I bought the box set for my 9 yr old son. what a bummer to hear they have been updated to modern times, why do they have to mess with everything good? first where the wild things are was made into a really depressing film and now this?

I have been reading Fudge since I was a pre-teen, so I thought I was getting the classics when I purchased this. Was I wrong!! Many of the original words have been changed. For instance: The original book had Peter asking for an airplane and records for Christmas, but the new version has him asking for CD's and an MP3 player. How silly! I wanted the classic and I didn't get it. I am truly upset that these books have been changed to impress the younger crowd. Records and airplanes aren't that foreign of an idea for kids to read about. It's like changing the words to "To Kill a Mockingbird!"

Although I have older siblings, I've grown up as an only child, since they're both much older than me. Even now, my older brother's an engineer and has two daughters, the eldest being seven, my sister's a psychologist and teaches a mindfulness class on top of all her clients, and I'm still at university, training to be a teacher. This may be why I love Fudge so much. But in general, these books are hilariously funny, and despite the 80s references, these books feel as if they could have been written today. That's what's special about these books. Some things never change, like the strange ideas of little kids, and the way siblings interact.
When I first read these books, it was because my parents found me "Superfudge" in a bookshop and insisted I give it a try. I liked it a lot and started reading all the other Judy Blume books I could find. Later on, about a year later, my teacher suggested I read it, and when I told her I'd already read it, she took it out of the school library and read us pieces during class. We were doing news articles as a writing assignment, and at one point, we were told to write on Fudge's first day of kindergarten. Much more interesting than her husband's stolen bike to a nine-year-old!
These books are some of the most funny and least serious of Judy Blume's books, yet still true-to-life. It's perfect for pretty much any child from the age of 7+. Next time I see my nieces, I should try reading the first chapter of "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" and see what they think.

These five books by Judy Blume are so awesome. Now that I have an 11-year-old it's high time that I revisited these books that I loved reading as a kid, and both of us dearly loved the experience. The books are:
Tales Of A Fourth Frade Nothing
Otherwise Known As Sheila The Great
Superfudge
Fudge-a-mania
Double Fudge
Each book is a precious artifact, a treasure of written perfection, and each character lives on and on, always larger than life (it's hardly ever like this - how many books do you read where not even one single character is interesting?); this applies not just to the main protagonists Peter and Farley Drexel "Fudge" Hatcher either, as you really find yourself caring about long-lost cousin Howie (or "the Howies" as his whole family is called - this includes another Farley Drexel Hatcher, in this case nicknamed "Mini", and the twin girls Flora and Fauna), about newborn Tootsie, even about the hapless mynah bird Uncle Feather (great name). Oh Lord yeah!!
The first two books are not really about Fudge at all, and are the more serious ones. The first one focuses on Peter Hatcher, about his problems dealing with his little three-year-old brother and eventually the fate of his pet turtle (an infamous episode in children's literature if there ever was one), while the second book opens the lid on the complex life of Sheila The Great, who's not as confident as her blustery character would lead you to believe. The later three books are mainly about Fudge and are highly episodic, lacking Blume's characteristic take on the hard issues of childhood that can be found in her other books (and which appear in mild forms in the first two in this series); these books show Fudge between the ages of five and six. Throughout the books Peter maintains the tone of a long-suffering whiny kid without much of a sense of humor, while Fudge is just plain crazy.
Blume keeps things interesting across all five books by varying the locale of each book, which helps her introduce new situations and characters. In the first book Peter and Fudge (and occasionally Sheila) are in New York City, in the second book Sheila's family take her off to the country for the summer (and, to balance the first book, we see very little of Peter or Fudge). In the third book the family moves off to Princeton for a year; in the fourth book they are back in New York, but then baby Tootsie comes along (and so do The Howies); then, in the last book, the characters are off to Maine for the summer as Blume ingenously finds a way to unite the Hatchers and Sheila Tubman's family in a single tale (and in more ways than one too we find out!!).
There are so many favorite episodes that I can't really pick just one, but my son and I never get tired of shouting "bonjour stupid" at each other in honour of Uncle Feather.
Fudge rules. Riot... riot!!!!

This entire series is a must read for every child.
Funny, poignant, many tricky situations are brought up and handled with panache. I really appreciate Judy Blume's attention to small details, like a kid not wanting to take swim classes because they don't want to get their head wet.
There are very many laugh out loud moments, and whenever there's a problem, it gets solved in a nice tidy package by the end of the chapter or book. It's kind of like the predecessor to "Modern Family," where it's okay for people to be divorced or poor or not like dogs.

When my daughter (now 41) was a child she loved Judy Blume. She read all of Blume's books written for children. My granddaughter doesn't seem to like reading very much so I was looking for a modern day Judy Blume. I want my granddaughter to see how much fun reading can be. When I read in the reviews that these books have been updated, I was thrilled. The emotions and humor in Judy Blume's books are timeless but the world has changed a lot. When my daughter read these books there were no CDs, no cell phones, no MP3 players and no digital cameras. My granddaughter and I will be reading these together. I'll be updating this review when I see how my granddaughter likes the books.

My daughter loved this set. She tore through it. I would say to be careful if you give it to younger kids as it broaches the subject of Santa, and if you aren't ready for your kids to question that then hold off.

I'm glad the books were updated for a new generation. I read & enjoyed these books when I was a kid, now my daughter is enjoying them too. She has read other books from my generation that haven't been updated & although she enjoyed them, she couldn't relate to the characters as well because they were in a different time.

I read these books as a kid, too, and loved them. So, my 3rd grade daughter and I were reading them at night. We are reading "Superfudge" and it has several topics you may not be ready for. While most of the book is very funny and we had a lot of laughs, I was not laughing at the part about how babies are made. I also didn't enjoy the chapter, "Santa, who?" Just a warning to parents, they talk about not believing in Santa Claus. I know not everyone does, but we still do. So, I would wait to read these books until your child is a little older.

It's true these books have been modified from the originals... but who cares?
My son just finished the entire set, and he loved them. The many adventures of Fudge set him laughing, and he related to the tales of being a big brother. I had no idea he would enjoy these so much, but he did, and it was really fun reading them together. Oddly enough, he never once commented about any changes from the original versions.
There are a few things in the books that might be issues for some, like a chapter that gives away that Santa Claus isn't real, and a fair bit of name-calling ("stupid"). However, these are easy to skip over, unless you feel doing so would ruin the story.

I was almost going to purchase these sets since I loved these classics and wanted to share them with my kids, but I think I will just stop by the used book store and get the originals... I want the "real deal" when it comes to MY Judy Blume books... Very disappointed to hear that these classics have been "sold out" to modern times.... :(

I couldn't believe it when another reviewer/reader said that these were changed from the original. I got my hands on copies, and sure enough, these have been changed! Pick a literary classic. Some are a positive chore to read because English has changed, and continues to do so. But I love the books because they are the books I read growing up. These books are NOT. Will a new generation enjoy them? Certainly. But can a previous one? Of all the things to sell out, why cheapen the childhood of a generation and pander this way? Boo to Judy Blume. This is unforgivable.
