After No Limits, I was really looking forward to the next installment. However, I was kind of disappointed in Holding Strong. While I enjoyed once again meeting all of the characters that I grew to love in the first book, the story itself I found to be quite dull. The characters seemed to have the same discussions over and over again that at times it felt a little tedious. The suspense of the novel felt more like a mere annoyance that was given little page time. And, towards the end of the book when the action finally occurs, it was wrapped up quite neatly in a handful of pages. All of these things made me think, "Really? I bought this book?"

In the first sentence, the male lead described watching the female flirt lead as "burned his ass big-time." In the third paragraph on the first page, he refers to the female lead as "all tits and ass." At that point, I closed the book and put it in the recycling box. I thought it would be interesting to learn about the MMA world with a little romance thrown in. But the writer's language is low-rent. I can't speak to the plot as I couldn't get past the tawdry writing language. I'm pretty tolerant, but not that tolerant.

We all remember Denver & Cherry from the first books in the series.
Denver is one of the fighters in Cannon Colter's gym in Warfield, Ohio. Denver recently signed with SBC, the big fighting association, but is still living and training in Warfield. Cherry is the roommate of Colton's sister Merissa.
Both Denver & Cherry have been totally attracted to each other ever since they first met....but Denver never tried anything because he thought Cherry was too much of a partygirl and a flirt... she talked and flirted to all the guys at the gym.
But she's not interested in any of the guys - she's totally in love with Denver.
And when they both meet at a bar in a town two hours from home, after one of Armie's fights, they finally both give in to the attraction.
They spend an amazing night together....and it could've been an amazing morning too, but two things happen....
First, Cherry must've caught the bug that's been going around lately; fever and all....but Denver, and Armie too, take care of her and bring her medicine etc.
And then there's the problem with her 'Family'. Three dangerous looking guys have been asking about her. But she's scared and doesn't want anything to do with them. But there's still more that she's not telling Denver...
And of course we also hear a lot about Armie and how ex-fighter Havoc tries to get him to sign with the SBC....but for whatever reason, Armie doesn't want to.... plus he's still totally in love with Cannon's sister and then there's the other fighter Stack, who's had a crush on Vanity ever since she came to town - we'll get to hear their story soon!!!!!!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO DENVER & CHERRY???
WILL THE TWO OF THEM GET THEIR HEA???
WILL THERE BE A CLIFFHANGER??
I'm not telling you that of course ☺

SUCH A GREAT BOOK!!!!!
When you've read the prequel to this new series: HARD KNOCKS, and then Cannon's story NO LIMITS, you already know all about the fighters and their possible future girls.
Now we finally get to hear Denver & Cherry's story.
And what a HOT story it was.
Unlike many romance novels this one already starts really sexy.
They meet at the bar and end up in bed...phew!!!!!
And Denver is such a hot guy - and a nice guy - and a smart guy ..... grrrrrr
I really loved the story. There was so much sexiness in it and the suspensy parts with those three bad guys and all the funny moments with Armie and the guys. ...
I loved how it wasn't this horribly long story before they finally get together - this is a book where they almost get together in the first chapters....Yeah, there are lots of problems to overcome with both their families, but I really enjoyed reading that all.
Something I especially enjoy about this series...this FIGHTER series...is, that it's not really about the fighting - we barely see any professional fighting or any kind of fights, other than with the bad guys in the suspensy parts of the books ☺ I'm not such a huge fan of the whole MMA or boxing or wrestling thing ☺
PLUS - we get a tiny little Cannon Bonus Scene at the end ☺☺☺
HOLDING STRONG - was an amazingly beautiful & verrrry sexy & suspensy Romance!
You'll love it!!!!!
I WOULD SOOO LOVE IT if someone would make a TV-series out of the Ultimate Series - just so we could stare and fangirl at Cannon & Denver & Stack & Armie etc. all day long!!!! Oooh and don't forget Rowdy and his buddies from the previous series and Havoc and colleagues from Lori's older fighter series - they're around in Holding Strong too ☺☺
Now I can't wait for the other books in this series!!!
TOUGH LOVE will be book #3 - coming soon.
STACK & VANITY'S BOOK!!!!! ☺
....and after that - whoooooopeeeee: FINALLY ARMIE'S & MERISSA'S BOOK!!!!! ♥

BOOK SYNOPSIS
An up-and-coming MMA fighter wants more than just one night from a woman fleeing her past in Lori’s irresistible new novel.
Heavyweight fighter Denver Lewis plays real nice, but he doesn’t share. That’s why he’s been avoiding top-notch flirt Cherry Peyton. But a man can only resist those lush curves for so long. Their encounter surpasses all his fantasies, bringing out protective urges that Cherry’s about to need more than she knows…
Denver’s combination of pure muscle and unexpected tenderness has been driving Cherry wild. Yet no sooner does she get what she’s been craving than old troubles show up on her doorstep. And this time, Cherry can’t hide behind a carefree façade. Because the man by her side is one who’ll fight like hell to keep her safe…if only she’ll trust him enough to let him…
My Thoughts
We RETURN TO THE world of the Ultimate series , a world that is both intense and also low key as the fighters must be aware at all times that their training makes them both a weapon as well as a target for ego driven muscle heads so keeping their cool makes all the difference in certain situations.
Denver Lewis has recently joined the SBC, the organization that has the potential to take him all the way to the top spot in the MMA if he can keep on target with his training and his anger in CHECK when it comes to Cherry Peyton.
Cherry is in her early twenties, she is a bubbly curvy and all around gorgeous young woman who caught Denver’s attention upon their very first meeting. Too bad for him that she does not seem to be able to curb her flirtatious manner as Denver is not willing to get involved with someone who revels in the attention of MULTIPLE admirers as he wants to be the only one his woman needs on her mind.
Once again we find two people whose mixed signals have kept them apart when they could have found happiness together sooner, also the second that Cherry finds herself threatened is a major stumbling block because she prefers to work out her problems alone rather than involving Denver and his friends.
The way in which this story unfolds is one that will have it’s readers totally on Denver’s side for the most part, he is very sweet, very gentle, very caring, very protective and even when overbearing in his take charge attitude never comes across as a bully so naturally you want Cherry to listen to him.
Cherry has had a childhood that would never wish on anyone, the past experiences that she lived through were a nightmare and the situation that she finds herself in now is one that is both scary as well as very seriously dangerous if not handled correctly.
As we learn more about both Cherry and Denver it becomes very apparent that this couple has issues to work through both together and alone but the hope is that in doing so they will form a lasting strong relationship that will last. Whether that happens or not one must give them both CREDIT for being as open to trying as well as strong enough to take a chance given their past histories.
Reading this was like being part of a reunion with ALL THE CHARACTERS, loved seeing how everyone rallied as needed and the off-the-charts heat between Cherry and Denver was scrumptious.
Looks like ONE BY ONE our MMA fighters are finding that special someone as well as their careers are revving up and life is on track.

This isn’t a bad story overall, but it just didn’t do it for me. There was nothing in it that was a deal-breaker, it was more that there were a dozen little niggling things that kept popping up throughout the book to irritate me.
One of the biggest issues is that the story feels like it’s happening at a snail’s pace. Every single scene is mercilessly dragged out until it takes 10x longer than it needs to. And a lot of the long passages of expositional introspection given by our hero and heroine are repetitive. It gave the story this odd feeling of being both too long and too short. Each scene dragged on forever, so it felt too long, but in terms of days, hardly any time was passing, so it seemed too soon for Denver and Cherry to expect the level of trust and commitment they both apparently expected from each other. It was weird. And on top of that, there were multiple breaks where we followed either Stack or Armie for long passages so that their books could be set up. I liked those characters and their respective women well enough, but it really dragged the Cherry/Denver story down to have so much other crap interrupting their narrative.
<Spoiler Alert>
Okay, so the story opens at a bar after an MMA fight. The whole gang from the “Ultimate” series is there. We’re in Denver’s perspective as he tries not to watch Cherry dancing with other members of the fight club. In short order we learn that Denver has it bad for Cherry, and she’s made it very clear that she’s interested in him, but after initially being inviting, he suddenly iced her out with no explanation. And we as the reader soon learn that the reason he refuses to be with her is because he’s labeled her a “world-class flirt.” He reached this conclusion because she had the audacity to speak with other men and laugh at their jokes. Seriously.
Now, to be clear, Denver has indulged in more one-night stands and casual flings than he can even remember. And even in the time since he met Cherry he’s had his fair share of hookups and he never misses an opportunity to flirt with random girls. But he’s completely condemned Cherry as being the worst sort of c*ck-teasing slut out there because she has dared to make conversation with the other guys in their fighting circle. Conversation. That’s IT. She hasn’t slept with anyone, been on any dates or even KISSED another man since meeting Denver, but he dares to judge her as not being worthy of a relationship with him. It’s beyond hypocritical and infuriating.
And he never, EVER, acknowledges his own hypocrisy on this point. Even after he finally “gives in” and deigns to have sex with her, he’s still 100% convinced that she’s a terrible flirt and that he’ll have to correct that behavior in her if they’re going to have a relationship. Cherry doesn’t do a very good job of standing up for herself on this point, but when they do talk about it, it seems that Denver bases his judgement on the fact that Cherry is hot and, by definition, any time she talks with a guy, the guy will necessarily be thinking about having sex with her. And that Cherry must of course know that she has this effect on men, so therefore she’s encouraging them to undress her with their eyes when she speaks to them. It’s truly mind-boggling how insane and abusively stalkerish his thought process is. Especially the double-standard he applies, not just between Cherry and himself, but between Cherry and the other fighters she’s talking to as well. Denver thinks in his inner monologue about how he trusts these other guys implicitly and they all know that he has his eye on Cherry and so therefore none of them would ever make a move on her. You’d think that would mean that he was totally okay with Cherry talking to these guys. That they were “safe” guys that he didn’t have to worry about undressing her with their eyes. But that’s not how he feels. He still somehow thinks Cherry is a harlot for speaking with them and that if any eye-undressing is happening, it’s her fault, not the fault of the men doing it.
Eventually, about 2/3 of the way through the book, Denver sort of realizes that he’s the one with the problem here, not her. That all she’s doing is talking to his friends, all of whom he knows would never touch her, and that he’s acting like an abusive lunatic by being so insanely jealous all the time. He gets better after that, which is good. It still bugs me that he never acknowledged his hypocritical double-standard though. And that Cherry did such a poor job of calling him on his BS.
Getting back to the story, that first night at the bar, Cherry makes what seems to be one last attempt to get Denver to acknowledge her interest and he gives her the cold shoulder. She seems to give up but at the last possible second he decides to give in and have sex with the insanely hot woman who has been panting after him for months. I had trouble getting on board with this immediate jump into bed. I haven’t read the previous book in the series so this step didn’t feel justified to me. Cherry seemed pathetic for so obviously throwing herself at this guy over and over and being all too eager to lap up whatever crumbs of affection he deigned to give her. Especially when we were experiencing it all from Denver’s perspective and could hear how poorly he thought of her all along.
The actual act itself was one of the places where it felt like the scene took 10x longer than it needed to. We get very long second-by-second explanations of what’s happening and what Denver and Cherry are thinking and feeling. There’s way too much talking and repetitive navel-gazing. Denver thinks over and over about how he’ll have to break her of that flirting problem and Cherry thinks over and over about how amazing it is that she’s finally going to sleep with Denver. Then things come to a screeching halt while they discuss the apparently world-class size of Denver’s package and how Cherry came to know about it before this moment.
By the time they got to the main event, I really didn’t care all that much. I wasn’t invested in the relationship yet since we’d gotten no romantic build-up. I didn’t really like either character for the aforementioned reasons, and the excruciatingly long, drawn out lead in left me yawning rather than hot and bothered. Cherry literally passes out the second Denver is done rocking her world and he immediately leaves to go get his things from his hotel room so he can spend the night with her. Armie comes knocking on the door looking for Denver and Cherry can barely stand because she’s come up sick. Denver comes back in time to see the naked-except-for-a-sheet Cherry on the bed with Armie feeling her forehead and his insane jealousy circuits are tripped. After some Neanderthal-level grunting, Armie eventually tells Denver that 3 thugs are looking for Cherry and one even pulled a knife when Armie told them to get lost.
What follows this revelation is a very, very long and slow-moving nothing. Cherry is too sick to bother her with the knowledge that she’s being stalked so Denver puts off asking her about it. He even has a confrontation with the guys, who claim to be her brothers, and doesn’t tell her. Then they pull the fire alarm at the hotel to try to flush Cherry out and Denver bundles her into the car to keep her safe. The thugs see them at the last minute and hop in their car to give chase. Denver speeds down the highway and gets off at an exit to lose them…all without telling Cherry what’s up. Then when they’re finally alone, instead of cluing her in and asking her what’s going on, he instead interrogates her about why she has in her purse the phone numbers for all the guys in their fight club. Seriously? Seriously? That takes precedent over three shady characters pulling knives and committing felonies in order to get their hands on her?
Eventually they get around to talking about it and Cherry’s initial reaction is to accuse Denver of being in cahoots with her (foster) brothers because they used to torment her by convincing guys to ask her out so then everyone would laugh at her. She also reveals that the ringleader, Carver, eventually developed a thing for her and had every intention of forcing himself on her - with her foster father’s blessing - as soon as she turned 18 (and was therefore no longer a ward of the state) so she ran away from home. We also learn that her biological parents were drug dealers who were ultimately murdered. So poor Cherry has had a lot of awful things to deal with in her short life and yet is sweet, open and loving.
There’s even more to the story of Cherry’s awful childhood but they take so long talking about all this other stuff that they don’t really get around to the last bit until much later in the story. Cherry doesn’t want Denver to have anything to do with her brothers because she’s afraid he’ll get hurt. Denver, of course, gets his fragile male feathers ruffled over this because he feels she’s saying that he’s not capable of taking care of himself when he’s a big tough manly man fighter guy who’s never been beaten in the ring. I found this to be really irritating and egotistical of Denver. A smart guy would recognize that you can be the most skilled fighter in the entire world and that won’t stop a bullet in the back. So the fact that he wouldn’t even conceive of the fact that these guys might possibly pose a threat to him was the height of arrogance. And dangerous arrogance at that. Maybe if he’d kept his head and explained to Cherry that he understood what they were up against but that he wouldn’t let her go through this alone she’d have been more forthcoming with information.
I also thought it was really insensitive for Denver to get so butt hurt about Cherry “not fully trusting him” because she didn’t immediately want to open up to him about the horrific mental, physical, emotional and sexual abuse she suffered in her childhood. He acted like her not wanting to relive her most awful experiences was a full-on insult to both him and their relationship. Him, you know, the guy who just yesterday was icing her out for being a “flirt” unworthy of a relationship with him? Right, sure, what’s her problem? He’s got no self-awareness on this issue at all. He totally thinks that now that they’re doing the horizontal mambo she’s just supposed to 100% drop all her emotional barriers and reveal her most private traumas to him. And all while he hasn’t even said anything to make her think he’s in this relationship for more than just a short-term thing. Yeah, I call BS on his viewpoint here.
Not that Cherry gets a pass on this one either though. It WAS ridiculous for her to expect a stand-up guy like Denver to just say “Yep, that’s your problem. Give me a call when you’ve sorted it out and have time for another trip to bone-town.” Even a guy who was only interested in a fling would help her out in that situation if he had ANY morals at all. So it was insane for Cherry to think he would just let her deal with this on her own. And while I like a strong heroine who takes care of her own problems rather than playing the damsel in distress, in Cherry’s case it just made her seem stupid. She didn’t have any kind of a plan for how she was going to deal with her brothers. She was still petrified of them and just talking to them on the phone sent her spiraling back to her childhood traumas. She hasn’t become some Kung Fu martial arts wizard or @ss-kicking cop or whatever in the years since she last saw them. She doesn’t even own a gun or Taser or anything with which she could hope to defend herself. So she had absolutely ZERO chance of handling them on her own, and yet kept trying to turn away the help of all her friends. It was just plain stupid.
Also on my list of stupid is when Denver’s step mother, (who is only a few years older than him and caused a now 5-year rift between Denver and his father by first attempting to seduce Denver and then convincing his father that Denver was lying about the incident when he tried clue the man in that his wife was a lying tramp) was seen talking to Cherry’s brothers outside the Rec center. Denver knows this happened, but never follows up. He has to know that only bad things could come from that encounter and yet he doesn’t pursue it. Too stupid to be believed of a guy who is allegedly so desperate to protect Cherry.
The last 1/4 of the book is pretty good. Denver has gotten over his insane jealousy and “you’re a flirt” accusations and has become a pretty solid partner. Cherry eventually reveals the rest of her childhood trauma and Denver is supportive. (Although this final story kind of contradicts what she’d said earlier about what was the inciting incident that made her finally run away.) So by the end I believed in their love and thought they were a good, strong couple who were right for each other.
The final climax was a little lifeless, imo. It was set up well and I was biting my nails waiting for the big bad thing to happen, but when it did, it all just felt passionless. When Carver finally got his hands on Cherry, his behavior was unbelievably tame. After spending a whole book - including several scenes from Carver’s perspective - telling us how desperate he was to rape Cherry, he didn’t even cop a feel when he finally had her in his grasp. I just didn’t believe it. And Denver’s beat-down of the three brothers was equally passionless. He was supposedly seething with rage but the description sounded very calm and calculating. He just worked his way through the brothers one by one while Stack and Armie held down whoever wasn’t currently being beaten. It just didn’t feel like the reaction of a guy who was out of control with rage. It seemed more like Denver was just in the ring fighting an inferior opponent. I would have preferred to see him abandon all his MMA training and just be brawling with Carver and beating his head into the sidewalk and so forth. That would have shown us that he was out of his mind with hate and rage at the guy for torturing Cherry and also with the fear he’d felt at seeing her held at gunpoint.
Other things that bugged me:
1) Cherry spent waaaaaay too much time complaining about how she didn’t look her best in the beginning. As sick as she was, she shouldn’t have cared if anyone saw her with her hair messed up. It made her seem shallow.
2) It was very obviously plot contrivance that the brother’s had tons of opportunities to get to Cherry and even had legitimate reasons to get her as soon as possible, but didn’t because Carver “wanted to torment her for a few more days.” I call BS on every part of this. First, Carver has been fantasizing about raping Cherry for years now. Why the H*LL would he delay the moment when he can finally fulfill that fantasy? There’s no logic to it. Second, the brothers somehow figure out where Cherry lives and they use that information to disable her car so that she leaves it behind, giving them an opportunity to put bugs and snakes in it. I get that this is a continuation of the way they used to torment her as a kid but it just doesn’t make sense. Why would they do something that is guaranteed to ensure Cherry is never left alone again and that she’ll no longer be staying at that house? They go from knowing where she is and therefore being able to get to her, to not know where she is anymore because of this stunt. And they didn’t even get to watch her reaction when she found their present. So how did this serve their purpose? Why wouldn’t they just leave her car alone, wait for her to leave for work in the morning, and then run her off the road and kidnap her? They could drop all the bugs and snakes on her that they wanted once they had their hands on her! Like I said, it was very obvious that this was just plot contrivance to drag the story out.
3) I disliked the way Cherry kept getting star-struck while looking at other men. Armie, Rowdy, the cops from the other series, etc.. If she’s really been in love with Denver from the moment she laid eyes on him then she shouldn’t be so affected by these other guys, even if they’re buff and cute. In her eyes, no one should be buffer or cuter than Denver. I’d have felt the same way if Denver had stared goggle-eyed and tongue-tied at Vanity or Merissa. But he didn’t. He had eyes only for Cherry. Considering the whole “she’s a massive flirt” business at the beginning that I so passionately defended Cherry for, the fact that she basically needed to wipe the drool off her chin after looking at these guys really pissed me off.
4) I’m with everyone else about how irritating it was that Denver kept calling Cherry “girl” all the time. Especially at the beginning it felt very disrespectful and paternal. Not a good combination. And it wasn’t helped by the fact that Cherry came right out and said that Denver only called her that when he was turned on, and he verified that was the case…..and then proceeded to call her “girl” while they were having some very un-sexy conversations. I know he said that he was pretty much always turned on when she was around, but he even said it while she was describing the horrific abuse she suffered as a kid. If he was truly turned on during that conversation then there’s something seriously wrong with him.
5) Why did Armie have a black eye and Denver have his arm in a sling at Cannon’s wedding at the end? There was no explanation given for Armie’s eye and a brief throwaway about Denver tweaking a muscle during training to explain his shoulder. How did either of these things add to the story? Why introduce these factors for no reason?
<End Spoiler>
So all in all, I had a lot of issues with this book, particularly in the beginning. The hypocritical double-standard being applied throughout the story was really irritating. The pacing was far too slow and the storyline too weak to support it so things were done very obviously for plot contrivance alone. But by the end I really liked Denver and Cherry as a couple. They had both convinced me that they were head-over-heels in love with each other and had proven their unwavering commitment. They were both supportive and basically brought out the best in each other. I feel like they were both better people because of their love, and that’s really what every relationship should be about. I can’t go higher than three stars though, because of all the issues mentioned above.
<Spoiler Alert>

I had a fab time with Holding Strong. Definitely reminded me of why I love Foster's books.
The Gist: Cherry has been wanting Denver for long as she can remember but the man is damn stubborn and resists all her ample charms. Until she flirts with another man one time too many and... he snaps. And, Cherry gets hers. Mmhm. Seems Denver's wanted her all this time, too, and there's only so much resisting a man can do. Woo! But a bit of drama from her childhood is about to put a damper on all their nekkid frolicking.
There's really nothing to not love about Denver and Cherry. They're a fun couple and individually just nice people. He's all alpha protective with a killer body--I mean, hello! he's an MMA fighter-- and Cherry's just a sweetheart and life of the party. I enjoyed them both.
Their romance was actually really easy even with all their resisting since most of that happened pre-book. So things kick off with a naughty bang and them pretty much jumping in feet first and going at a romance full force. I kind of liked that. They already knew each other so well and it just suited them. It was nice having an easy romance. And gah hotness. Yeah, they were steamy for sure.
There's some danger and turmoil as Cherry's past comes back to give her hell. Kept things on their toes and gave a good reason for them to stick even closer. Woo! The only thing I didn't totally love was some drama from Denver's family. I just didn't think it was handled quite right. But that was a small thing overall.
There's a good bit of humor with the other fighters in his club which I loved. It's a good group and definitely made me want to dive in to the rest of the series. They tease, give each other hell but always have each other's backs.
In the end. Foster's always a good time and just has the yummiest heroes.

So is it just me, or does it feel like this new series is lacking on the suspense front? I feel like the "bad guys" in these books are contrived and it all seems rather forced to me. Sadly, Holding Strong was a glaring example of this issue. Cherry and Denver have been circling one another since they first met, but Denver finally grudgingly gives into the demands of his body despite his head saying otherwise. I wanted to like Denver. He's an all around good guy who just wants to protect his girl and keep her all to himself. His negative attributes within the book did tend to overshadow this though, because he can be kind of a jealous prick as well. Cherry, on the other hand, is the typical type of heroine that I always love when I read Foster's books. She is headstrong and wants to be independent, but eventually she gives in just a little to compromise with Denver. Now this book wasn't a very steamy, but the romantic elements were exactly what I'd expected for these characters.
My biggest issue with this book, and the reason behind the 3 stars, is that the rest of this book I could have done entirely without. The conflict was entirely too stupid in my honest opinion. It felt like a forced after thought of Foster's where she just didn't know what to do with the rest of the story. I've always loved her complicated plots, it's why I read every single one of her books, but this series is seriously lacking for me right now. I do have high hopes for Armie's story though, so I sincerely wish that she would get back to what she is good at again that always leaves me craving more. :)

-- MY THOUGHTS --
What's better than being roommates with Cannon Colter's sister, Merissa? Maybe being friends with all the hot, uber alpha males at the rec center because of it. Wait... no, it's those protective males banding together when trouble comes looking for Cherry - and Denver is leading the pack! Denver is, without a doubt, a total Alpha male. There's kind of a role-reversal here at the beginning... Cherry's the life of the party and Denver does not want a casual one-nighter with her, he wants her for the long-term. That's incredible hot.
He growled, "Don't fool yourself, girl. I could never ignore you, no matter how hard I tried." He lightly bit her shoulder, then smoothed the spot with his hot tongue. "Anytime you were around, I knew it. I *felt* it. Clear down to my bones."
I love Denver and Cherry's characters, individually and as a couple. The standard fair of secondary characters (all the rec fighters, plus a few cameo cross-overs from Love Undercover and SBC) made an appearance. Dialogue and interaction was natural, realistic and believable. The plot is full and dynamic. My only complaint is that it was a little TOO full. Pamela... ugh! There were undercurrents for Armie and Rissy, leading me to believe they'll be getting their book sooner than expected. Stack and Vanity obviously are next in the line up. There were a few spots that I worried that they were trying to take over the book. Ms. Foster managed to rein them in, but just barely. The flow of the book is exactly what you'd expect of Ms. Foster. This one did, however, feel more emotionally focused than suspense and action seeded. I'm okay with that, but there may be some out there that anticipated more action than was given. There are plenty of conflicts, but calm and controlled Denver always manages to resolve them in a quick and efficient manner (while apologizing profusely when he's being a bonehead). Predictability was very low. The climax of the story is fast-paced and exciting, leading into a conclusion which is solid. There's even a Cannon Colter Bonus scene further hinting at what's to come. This was a truly enjoyable read and I look forward to TOUGH LOVE, due out August 2015.

Cherry fell in love with Denver the moment she met him, but he's been steadily avoiding her forever, and a girl can only take so much apathy and rejection. Denver wants Cherry more than he's ever wanted anyone, but the girl's a flirt, and he can't stand watching her smile and laugh and charm other men. When Cherry's last shot finally hooks him, they fall into sync almost effortlessly, but when trouble from Cherry's past comes back to haunt her, she'll have to trust Denver with more than her heart in order to survive.
The Verdict: Wow. I might love Denver more than Cannon now. When I saw this latest book in the series pop up on NetGalley, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it, and I'm not disappointed.
Cherry's been pining for Denver since she first came to town, but he seems more interested in pretty much anything else but her. Not entirely willing to give up, she gives it one last shot, and it looks like they might finally be together. But after one amazing night together, she's sick as a dog, and even though she doesn't want Denver to see her like that, she can't seem to get rid of him. To make matters worse, three creepy thugs have shown up in town and been asking people about her, and as much as she doesn't want anyone to know about her past, she doesn't seem to have much choice.
Cherry was an incredibly interesting character, both because of her past and because of her present. On the outside, she seems to have it all together; she's fun and flirty and catches plenty of guys' eyes. But her life hasn't always been something to smile about. Orphaned and sent off to foster care, she endured a horrific childhood at the hands of her three foster “brothers,” and since getting away, she never looked back. And now they're looking for her.
She's also not nearly as confident as one might expect, but instead of waiting around and wondering, she's quick to ask Denver where they stand whenever she's unsure about things. She doesn't push too hard, and she doesn't declare her heart, but she's careful to make sure she has some clue where they're headed before she gets in over her head. That insecurity coupled with a strong sense of self-preservation made her much different than the typical romance novel heroine. Her falling in love just added an extra spark to her character.
Denver is just… Well, he's damned near perfect. He's been practically obsessed with Cherry for so long, but he didn't think he could handle her flirtatious ways, and he also didn't want to rock the friendship boat with her or any of their other mutual friends. When he finally can't stand it anymore, he goes ahead and takes a chance, still not sure if he can really handle her. But through it all, he's quick to reassure her even when he's not sure what he's doing, and he does his best to take care of her when she's sick and when she's threatened. And there are no words for how hot the man is.
As much as I loved the first book, I've gotta say this one has knocked it off its pedestal and become my new favorite. The banter among all the friends is just as brilliant and fun, and just like last time, I absolutely loved Armie. The romance between Denver and Cherry is sizzling hot and amazingly sweet all at once, which is pretty much the perfect combination. They've both got their reservations and are trying to protect their hearts, but it's so much fun watching them lose that internal battle and give into each other. Of course, there's also the matter of the threats against Cherry, and while plot twists like that often annoy me, this one fit so perfectly into the story and with the characters that I was reading as fast as I could, just trying to get a piece of whatever would happen next.
Holding Strong is ridiculously entertaining, with hot romance, tense suspense, witty dialogue, and an incredible cast of characters who add to every moment. I have no idea how I'm going to be able to stand waiting for the next book!

This is the second book in the ultimate series by Lori Foster
The story of Denver Lewis and Cherry Peyton the book and series revolves around a group of fighters. Cherry and Denvers book was great. Though with this whole series I had to stop giggling at the names of many of the characters.
Denver and Cherry have many demons they must face from their pasts. Together they learn to be strong and depend on each other and their friends help them along the way. There are many hilarious moments in the book that had me cracking up.
There were also plenty of hot and heavy scenes that will make you want to fan yourself. The plot of the book held my attention fairly well but honestly it was the background characters especially Armie and Marissa that made me read. (they have their own book called dirty fighting)
Over all this is a book I would read again and give a high 4.5 rating.

My Thoughts:
I always enjoy Lori Foster's stories immensely. They are fast-paced, action-packed, chock full of suspense, and gripping romance! Her secondary characters are just as amazing as her main characters, and we get to revisit them in all of the books of a series.
I've noticed that MMA romances have become quite popular lately. Who doesn't love a story about a sexy alpha-male athlete?!!! When I heard that Cannon Colter (one of my favorite secondary character's from the Love Undercover Series,) would be a huge part of this series, and that it was focused on a group of up and coming MMA fighters, I had to read it! Every book in this series has been addictive, and an amazing read!
In Holding Strong, we get Denver Lewis and Cherry Peyton's story. These two have been dancing around each other for a long time, so I was really excited to see them finally get together! Cherry has actively been pursuing Denver. However, he has been avoiding her, because he doesn't like that she is a huge flirt, and how she has the ability to drive him crazy. This is something that no other woman before her has been able to accomplish.
Finally, Denver gives in to temptation with Cherry, and they have a night to remember! Once he's had a taste, he wants her more than ever. Simultaneously, Cherry's in danger because her sick and twisted ex-foster brother's are after her. She is going to have to open up to Denver and trust him, if she wants a meaningful and lasting relationship with the man of her dreams.
Holding Strong was full of action, suspense, twists, and turns! The passion between Cherry and Denver was sizzling and well-worth all of the anticipation from these two finally getting together. Cherry was a fun, flirty and independent woman! I admired her resiliency, and would have never guessed how much she had gone through. Denver was so sweet, tender, attentive, and adoring! I loved how he treated Cherry.
We also get more of a taste of what's to come in the series with Vanity and Stack, as well as Armie and Merissa! I can't wait to read about both of these couples. We of course get Cannon and Yvette, and even Rowdy, Reese, and Logan from the Love Undercover Series! I love all of these characters, and how they are like one huge surrogate family! They tease each other, have a good time together, and train with one another. Yet, they aren't just there for each other during the fun times. They show their love loyalty, caring, and support for one another during the toughest of times!
My Rating:
I give, Holding Strong, by Lori Foster, 4 Riveting, Crazy Twists and Turns, and Sexy Times Filled Stars! Holding Strong was another great addition to the Ultimate Series!

Lori Foster hooked me in years ago with her first fighter series and I remain hooked with the Ultimate series. What I love most about these books is that the MMA fighting is the backdrop for these stories and the relationships are front and center; these are men who train to be the best in their sport learning to love and figuring out a way to balance their career and the person that means the most to them in their lives. Sometimes they know right away what they want and sometimes it takes months of denying the attraction before finally coming to terms with it and that’s exactly the story behind Holding Strong. A fighter determined to stay away from the “life of the party” even though he wants her like no other and a woman willing to risk her heart even if only for a little while find in each other what they always wanted.
Denver “Predator” Lewis is committed to his sport and to staying away from Cherry Peyton, the woman who everyone in their circle knows has it bad for him. He thinks he’s done a good job of playing it cool. To be honest, I went over and over in my head as to why Denver kept denying his attraction for Cherry and I finally figured out that he was scared of her. I think Denver knew she would change his life and he wasn’t sure he was ready for it. Denver is one of those gentle giant heroes; the kind that I gravitate to. The ones who aren’t afraid to step in when a woman isn’t feeling well or in this case really sick and wants to help no matter what. The ones who will tell a woman she’s beautiful even when her hair is a wreck and her make-up is running. The ones who don’t judge you for your past or your fear and the ones who will have your back even when you think you don’t want them to. Denver is a fighter of that there is no question, but in all honesty he’s a good man and like it or not he’s destined to be a good boyfriend/lover/husband.
I really wasn’t sure what to make of Cherry Peyton. I remembered her from the last book and knew she was friends with the fighters and lived with Cannon’s sister and that she was an expert at flirting. It was obvious she had a thing for Denver and that while she did flirt, it never went any further. On one hand I was high fiving her for forcing the issue with Denver and going after exactly what she wanted from him and on the other I was like “oh honey, make him work for it a little harder.” There’s no doubt Cherry was completely infatuated with Denver and lusted after his hot body but as the story played out it was obvious that she has watched him and had seen all the good in him and given her background the fact she could see good in any man was huge. I was a little disappointed at her constantly talking about his “equipment” to her friends and the fact that she kept saying she’d been “in love” with him forever when she didn’t really know him but then I had to remind myself that she is young and without many good life experiences. I do admire her for picking herself up and making something of herself despite her childhood and teen years being so awful and for wanting to take care of her problems on her own would it would have been so easy for her to rely on her new friends but I also hated that she was so stubborn especially knowing that she would be putting herself in danger.
While some people might love knock down dragged out drama that leads to some huge break-up only for a couple to magically figure it all out and reunite I personally find it refreshing when a couple learns to communicate along the way eliminating a lot of the angst in their relationship. While at times Denver got upset with Cherry’s lack of information and what he thought was a lack of trust they managed to work through things without huge arguments and I appreciated that so much. I will say that the secondary characters really enhanced this story often being a great sounding board, offering much needed advice, or just some really funny and colorful commentary. It makes me excited for what it to come in this already awesome series.
With a swoon worthy hero; one of Lori Foster’s best, a strong heroine, supporting characters that leave me excited about what is to come, revisiting previously adored characters, and an intriguing plot with just enough tension to make it interesting but not enough to overshadow the love story… Holding Strong is another fantastic addition to the Ultimate Series!

Denver has had his eye on Cherry for awhile but since it seems like Cherry has her eye on everyone he has held himself back. When it becomes clear that they only want each other, it's on. With family drama and trust issues plaguing our couple, they both must fight for what they truly want.
The hot sexy times come up a lot faster in this book but since the previous two books in the series (Hard Knocks and No Limits) featured Denver and Cherry's sexual tension and itch for one another, it didn't necessarily feel rushed. This could definitely be read as a standalone, the beginning might just feel a bit rushed if you have no context for how Denver and Cherry have been dancing around each other. As always, Foster's dialogue, chemistry between leads, writing, and characters make this an entertainingly fun read. The book did seem to run a tad long however, too much repetitiveness with Cherry not wanting Denver to get hurt and claiming it wasn't his problem when dealing with her foster family.
Cherry was a fun character to read, she was open and fun loving while Denver hit all the points of the trifecta hero, protecting, sexy, and strong; I do wish a couple out of the hundred times he used "girl" could have been cut, though. It was a little drawn out how Denver kept himself away from Cherry because of what he deemed her excessive flirting and side eye inducing when it was linked to issues pertaining to his stepmother. Cherry's issues with her foster brothers leaned toward the melodramatic but where would the romance world be without some angst to keep our couples on their toes? Cherry and Denver never quite swim in the deep end of the pool but they work well together and were amusing to read about.
Past and future characters make appearances in this, setting it nicely in the MMA world Foster has created. I know what you all want me to say and yes, Armie makes appearances here, with one particular scene that will have your toes curling in anticipation for what is to come. There is also a bonus chapter from Cannon's pov during his wedding reception that I shamelessly read three times over. All in all, Holding Strong isn't the strongest addition to this series but I still liked it. It's a fun read that could be cut down but has some fabulous scenes involving the MMA men and world Foster has created that we all love to read about. I'll definitely be on the lookout for the next in the series.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I have loved Lori Foster’s Ultimate series so far and Holding Strong didn’t let me down either!! These fighters are under my skin! The guys are tough, hot and dominant and they chase after the girls that steal their hearts. They are a close knit group and they will do anything for those they consider family. And it was no different for Denver and Cherry.
I could see that Denver and Cherry had chemistry in the previous book, so it was no surprise that they would get together so quickly in Holding Strong. They have both tiptoed around their feelings and each other for so long and it was great that they finally got together.
Denver has a gentle side that would have any girl swoon, and boy, did I swoon!! He took control early in the book and made sure Cherry was cared for. He wanted to be there at all times, but his hackles soon rose when Cherry’s past came knocking and his protective side came out.
Cherry has lived a difficult life and slowly allowed Denver to see her past. She tried to be all independent, which did irk me a little, but in the end she knew what she had to do to get through her situation. I liked seeing her relationship build with Denver, as it was intense but scorching as well.
I love how all the guys are so protective of all the girls even though they are not all in relationships. I love seeing each of the guys and the extra depth that the POV’s from Stack and Armie gave to not only this book, but the whole series too.
Holding Strong was another fabulous instalment in the series. I was on edge constantly, as the danger was on my mind, because the guys from Cherry’s past made me shiver… they were creepy and nasty, and I couldn’t wait for them to get what they deserved. Lori Foster creates these amazing characters that you become attached to, and you feel like you know them personally. The world is exciting, but dangerous as well, and you feel like you are right there with all the characters. I cannot wait to see how the next couple (Stack’s book) finally get together!

If you have read the first two books in this series, you will already know a bit about our man Denver and his lust for Cherry.
Well, fasten your seat belts and keep arms and legs inside the carriage, as you are about to get taken on one heck of a ride!
Denver Lewis has been pining/lusting/drooling/panting over Cherry Peyton since the first time he saw her, and finally, FINALLY a move is made... by Cherry!!
You know what I really liked about this installment of the Ultimate series? Our main characters got together early on in the pieces. None of this will they or won't they bizzo - since it has kinda sorta played out in the previous book. Nope, they get things sorted pretty early in the piece - thank you Ms Foster!
But while they do get it on early in the book, there is so much going on around Denver and Cherry that will keep you intrigued. Lots of suspensey kinds of things that are going on, things from Cherry's past that are coming back to haunt her.
I love that this series is not all about the MMA fighting. Yes, all our hotties are MMA fighter, but they are so much more, and so are their stories. Don't get my wrong, I love watching MMA! But these guys are sexy, smart, funny... did I mention sexy? And what I think is one of the sexiest things about them all is the care for each other and they way they all look out for each other.
You can't help but fall in love with all the guys and gals. Especially Armie. What are we going to do about Armie? He is just the best. He is rude and crude.. and we love him for it. I wish it was his book next.
Not that I am complaining though as we get Stack and Vanity next, and man oh man the build up to their story. You just know it is going to be steamy.
Now, off to Youtube some MMA to get my perv on!

Cherry has had her eye on Denver pretty much from the first moment she met him, but he has been deliberately keeping her at arms length. Finally caving, they decide to hook-up only for Cherry to fall ill and Denver ends up looking after her. They quickly become involved in each other's lives and discover that both of them are harboring secrets.
Cherry has had an awful childhood and her past is threatening to catch up with her. She wants Denver nowhere near that, but he is in protector mode and he's having none of it. He's got his own family issues to deal with too.
Cherry and Denver were really good together though his bullying behaviour at the start was a major turn-off however he eventually won me over. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the world Lori has created and all the other guys are amazing. Armie is such a walking contradiction, but it's hard not to fall for him. I can't wait to read his book and I hope it's coming soon.
This book lost a half star because I felt the pacing slowed during the period where Cherry was sick, and I was annoyed that Denver didn't call Pamela out after she was spotted with Carver - it was out of character for him and not believable.
However, all in all this was a fantastic read and I'm totally hooked on this series now.

I am in love with this series and the related series so you can bet I jumped on it as soon as I saw Holding Strong available on NetGalley. I do have to admit to some trepidation when Denver and Cherry do hop into bed almost as soon as the story kicks off. I reserved judgment since we already got glimpses of who each of Cannon’s fighters were falling for in earlier books and I should have know better than to doubt Lori Foster. She nailed this entire story on the head and I am in love with not only Denver but Armie and Stack as well. I am itching to get my hands on their books as well.
But back to Denver and Cherry. Yes, they rushed into bed and initially the reasons they felt the need to avoid each other seemed kind of random and superficial but we eventually learn the reasons behind both of their misgivings. And both of them are a doozy. I get creeped out just thinking about Cherry’s foster brothers right now. What I loved about Cherry is that while she is determined not to be the pathetic, I can’t protect myself heroine, she doesn’t become the I’m so determined to do this on my own I’ll make stupid decisions just to assert my independence. I can’t tell you how much those types of heroine’s bother me. Cherry knows when to stand up for herself and when to listen to reason for the sake of safety. At the same time Denver is the perfect match because while he’s obviously very alpha male he doesn’t shelter Cherry unnecessarily thus forcing her to make dumb choices.
In the end another fabulous read from Lori Foster that romance lovers should definitely pick up!

As always, Foster’s writing is intensely addictive. I couldn’t put this one down and ended up reading through it in a single sitting. She writes unerringly hot scenes that will leave you breathless, followed by emotional moments that tug at your heart. Foster brings the world of MMA to life in a real & understandable manner while highlighting the humanity in her characters. Combine this with a suspenseful and realistic plot and you have a winning combination. Foster draws readers into her world, developing everything down to the smallest detail while keeping up with the fast paced and powerful punch of this complexly crafted tale.
It’s so easy to feel connected to these fantastic characters. Denver is the perfect balance of strong, Alpha fighter and soft-hearted, caring gentleman. This absolutely unforgettable hero is someone I’ll never forget. Cherry’s troubled yet emotional past, combined with her personal strength and buoyancy today to create the perfect counterpoint for Denver’s machismo. This couple was fantastic separately but explosively unforgettable together. The chemistry and real emotions between them were fantastic. Foster didn’t stop with these two when it comes to powerful characters. Some of the secondary characters really drew me in as well. I can’t wait until some get their own books, nor could I help reminiscing on past encounters with others.
This novel kept me gripped throughout. I still can’t stop thinking about the unending chemistry between the characters or the unforgettable plot of the story.

It is refreshing to start off with the handsome Denver, who is a up-and-coming MMA fighter that is truly interested in more than a one night stand. Denver knows exactly who he wants but watching her interact with the others makes him feel she won't want the same things in the long run. When he finally give in to the feelings that he has been fighting, he soon realized that he might have not been such a good judge. Denver instantly has this want to be there for Cherry to help and support her in any way he can. He does though have some if his own issues to deal with.
Cherry has come so far in life. Working hard, doing everything she could do to forget that horrible place of her past. She is a very independent, strong woman who does not want to take a hand from anyone. When she finally gets her night with Denver and she is extatic. The last thing she ever expected was her past finding her once again. Can she deal with her problems on her own? Will she be able to keep her new friends out of harms way?
Surprised and hesitant when Denver shows interest in helping her with her issues. A woman could get used to have a strong MMA fighter around.
Lori does a great job of keeping the story interesting and moving along. You will find yourself flipping page one after the other just to see what is going to happen next. Looking forward to see what she has in store next for Stack.

This is the second novel in the Ultimate series. This time it is the romance between Denver Lewis and Cherry Payton. Though they are part of the same circle of friends, Denver has been successful at avoiding Cherry. He thinks she is just a flirt and he wants a woman who wants only him. But when danger comes after Cherry in the person of the three foster brothers she ran from when she was seventeen, all of Denver's protective instincts rise up and he is determined to protect her.
Cherry has rebuilt her life since running away and now is a cheerful and confident woman who is really in love with Denver. When trouble comes, she is just as eager to protect Denver as he is to protect her.
The love scenes are spicy and the tension palpable in this fast-paced romantic suspense title. I liked Cherry very much. Denver was less likeable for me. He read as much older than he was with his chauvinism. I was surprised when I did the math to find out that he was only 26. I would have thought he was in his mid-forties. His penchant for calling Cherry "Girl" seemed odd for someone who was only three years older.
Once I got over Denver's quirks, I really enjoyed the story. I also liked seeing characters I knew from earlier books by the author. I look forward to reading more about this group of friends and watching these tough, masculine fighters find their loves.

What's better than an MMA Fighter romance? I will tell you what is better....when Lori Foster adds her magic touch! The results is one swoon worthy hot Alpha fighter that will take you down in flames.
Put one Alpha fighter, one party girl, and pack of other fighters willing to protect said party girl. Add a whole lot of trouble, a whole lot of chemistry, and one bone tingling romance and you get the perfect book, Holding Strong by Lori Foster.
I absolutely loved Denver and Cherry. Both were strong, yet vulnerable characters, that had depth. As a couple and as individuals, they pulled at the readers heartstrings. Their story is packed full of emotion.
I could not put this book down. It had every element I look for in a book. The characters came to life, the romance curled my toes, and the overall story kept me entertained to the very last word.
Lori Foster has another winner by unanimous decision in Holding Strong!

"I need to know, Denver. Are you dropping me off at my door..." Her gaze searched his "Or sticking around for a while?"
Meet Denver Lewis a tough, sexy hero and an up an coming MMA fighter looking for more than just a one-night stand and he has his eye on Cherry Peyton. But Denver is not sure he wants to be involved with a party girl and flirt. One thing Cherry will learn is that Denver doesn't “share” and he is getting to the end of his restraint of “look” but “don't touch”. Cherry knows that one time with Denver will not be enough, but when she gets what she has been “wanting” for so long, trouble from her past rears it's ugly head. Can Denver and Cherry learn to trust each other enough to fight and win the trouble coming their way?
Denver and Cherry both have tremendous trust issues. Denver's issues come in the form a “stepmother” that is a little too young and a bit pushy. Cherry's issues come from being terrorized by her “foster” brothers. The build up in the story is awesome with twists and turns leading to an explosive ending. I love the secondary characters that are showcased. We even get a “Conner” bonus at the end hinting at things to come. I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. Looking forward to the next in the series, Tough Love.

I am addicted to the characters of this series! Miss Lori has successfully kept my interest up and alive with how she delivers each of the guys’ stories. Holding Strong unleashed the same amount of heat, action, suspense, and romance as the first book, No Limits.
Denver was all kinds of hot. Singling out his obvious hot bod, he unleashed all kinds of steam through his passion for fighting, his loyalty to the ones he loved, and his capability to love fiercely. His strength and his alpha-maleness oozed out of the pages and I couldn't help but love him. Especially when he unleashes caveman Denver!
Cherry Peyton was a strong, beautiful, and sweet woman. In No Limits , she unleashed her sweet charms and her darling smiles like it’s what she was made to do. Never did I even imagine that she had so many secrets and a very dark past. I admired her more when I learned about how she fought away from that nightmare and stood tall on her own. I loved the perfect mix of sexy, sass, strength and vulnerability in her character.
The book was hard to put down! It was steamy, romantic, sweet, fun, action-filled, and entertaining! Lori Foster continues to enchant with her exhilarating writing prose and addictive and fun characters! She definitely knows how to make readers clamor for more. I can’t wait for the next books in this series!

Lori Foster's new book is a fantastic novel that is impossible to put down. In fact, I found that that the book got better and better with each page. .
This is the second book in Ms. Foster's new Ultimate series about mixed martial arts fighters. These are all very tough men who also happen to be gentle, kind and protective of women especially their loves.
This is Denver and Cherry’s story. Denver is so loving and tender to Cherry. I could feel his love even though he never expressed it.
However, this is not just a beautiful love story between Denver and Cherry. There is lots of conflict between this couple and Cherry’s “brothers.” There is lots of suspense and intrigue because it takes a while before Cherry tells us the back story of these men.
Another thing I loved about this book that we not only learn about the other fighters, but we also get a glimpse into the women they are interested in. Each fighter so obviously will have their own story with their own problems.
Although, this is the second book in Ms. Foster's new books, it can easily be a stand-alone. Ms. Foster gives enough information so you can understand this book without having read the first one. However, the story has more meaning if you do.

Whenever I picked up a Lori Foster book, I know I’m in for a great story and HOLDING STRONG is no exception. Briefly introduced to Denver and Cherry in book 1 of the series, this story is all about them and their love and what a great guy Denver is.
What starts as a spicy beginning turns into something a little gross when post-coital Cherry gets a massive case of the flu. I absolutely loved this beginning because Denver was such a stand-up guy and took care of her. It really showed that their relationship went beyond the sheets and there was mutual caring going on there.
Cherry has a bit of a twisted, sordid past that come back to bite her in the butt, but Denver (and all her friends) are right there to rally around her. While I love the romance between Denver and Cherry (Foster’s descriptions burn up the pages), I love the all-around cast of this series and how much they genuinely care for one another. This series is as much about friendship as it is romance.
While the MMA scenes may be a little light (sorry for those of you looking for something more graphic with the fight scenes), Lori Foster more than makes up for it with a great hero and a stubborn heroine that I loved watching fall in love.
Is it time for book 3 yet?!

Thanks Netgalley for a copy to read and review.
This author needs no help with reviews, but it's always a treat to get a book from her. I have never had a bad time while sitting down reading one of her lovely alpha male books. I love this series! This MMA series are standalone books but every book has pretty much everyone in the MMA family so you get snippets and sneak peeks of your favorite couples long after their book is done. This one includes a bonus scene of Cannon and Yvette's steering Merissa toward Armie. Thats going to be an excellent book since the author has been teasing us with their story for awhile.
Denver and Cherrys story started out hot and heavy. Denver finally gets tired of Cherry so called flirting with everyone and finally acknowledges its time to make her his. His high handed alpha-ness was so freaking hot I had to fan myself. I was amazed at how quickly I devoured this one. Cherry has some criminal foster brothers come on scene and out comes Denver's protectiveness as he's determined to keep her safe and his. Overall entertainment here was five stars. You don't get many better alpha books than this one.

This latest story in the Ultimate MMA fighter series has all the hallmarks of a Lori Foster story - a protective alpha male and a feisty friendly female. I really enjoyed this story as Denver hooks up with Cherry and realizes that one night with her, after trying to resist her charms for so long, just isn't going to be enough. Add to that the fact that Cherry has had a troubled past that is coming back to haunt her and his protective urges jump right to the surface. They share some steamy love scenes right from the start and they don't let up throughout the story, quickly becoming something more than just sex. Equally as good as the romance is the camaraderie between Denver and the rest of the fighters. They are a bunch of fun-loving males with a penchant for beautiful females and the alpha traits we've come to expect. I love how they bond together to protect Cherry, no questions asked. We see several points of view in this story, not just from Denver and Cherry but from some of the other guys as well (including a villain POV) and the setup is there for more books in the series. It was a fun and sexy read. 4 stars.

Denver and Cherry have been circling each other for a while. She is one of the "gang" and loved by all. She only wants Denver.......and for one night, she has him.........and the flu!
This is the latest in Ms Foster's MMA fighting series. Denver and Cherry have come to watch the fight by a friend and at the after party, something finally clicks for them. Cherry has suffered through a terrible foster child experience that is still haunting her today. Her "brothers"in foster care have suddenly started pursuing her for unknown reasons, but none of them are good. On their one night together Denver and Cherry opened a bond between them despite her running a raging fever. Neither can imagine walking away. the threats from her foster family only make Denver want to protect her even more.
I enjoyed this addition to the MMA stories, it's fun to connect with old friends as well as new. Cherry and Denver had a romance that I found very enjoyable with occasional sizzles. Looking forward to Ultimate # 3.
I received this ARC from the publisher and NetGalley for a honest review.

Another knock out story. Love Lori Fosters books and this was no different. Denver is sexy and very protective. Cherry is very independent yet very protective of Denver. Their chemistry is explosive. And love the banter between all the characters. Absolutely fabulous.

MMA fighter Denver Lewis has been watching Cherry Peyton for a long time. He has been watching and wanting her fiercely. But her flirting with other men has been holding him back from making his move. Cherry has wanted Denver since she first met him but when he made it obvious that he wasn’t interested in her, she flirted, nothing serious but just enough to soothe her wounded ego. Denver has seen enough, he’s determined to finally make Cherry his and once he does she will be ONLY his. Now that they have found their way to each other, can they survive the monster from Cherry’s past who won’t let go of his obsession with her?
The first two words that pop into my head when I think about Holding Strong is smoking hot!! I fell in love with Denver and Cherry and I am finding myself obsessed with their story. Thoughts: I’ve been intrigued to read more about Denver and Cherry since their first appearance in this series – even though Denver was so intent on fighting their attraction to each other because of Cherry’s fun and flirtatious nature - and this book did not let me down! I loved the sparks that have always flown between these characters and the scenes between them this go round are captivating. I mean, who doesn’t love a big MMA guy playing nursemaid to the woman he’s attracted to when she’s sick and not at her best? Add to that the protective vibe that kicks in when some creepy characters start hanging around claiming to be her brothers? Oh, yeah – definitely some sexy vibes from these MMA hunks…even without the MMA action!
As more and more of Cherry’s past is revealed, I really connected and sympathized even more with her character and loved seeing how this new MMA ‘family’ enveloped her and came together to protect their own. It was really a beautiful story and a beautiful addition to the series. Well worth the wait!!

Denver is one of those men that will drive his girl wild, "the overwhelming need to eff you senseless, to make you come again and again until the only man you can see is me." A sick Cherry makes an interesting time for Denver, "you don't." Crawling up and over him, she shifted her ministrations to his overlong hair, loosely tangling her small hands in it. "God, you are such a hunk." Sometimes Denver doesn't put thought into his words he just states how he feels, "I'm horny as hell. How creative did you want me to be?" Cherry likes to sometimes surprise her man, "his abs tightened as he explored her naked cheeks. "Damn, girl. What type of underwear are you wearing?" In this book I got attached to the characters all over again and I'm hoping they all get their happily ever afters.

Omg!!!
I love me a good book where the characters are attracted from the get go, or even before that!
The chemistry between Cherry and Denver was pretty amazing, even if Cherry had some issues of her own.
I totally understood why she had those issues and appreciated the way Denver made them go away.
Another thing I loved was the way Denver managed to restrain himself in some situations, when even if he turned into a caveman, it would still be justifiable.
At some point in the book I kept thinking how one crucial detail is being dismissed, but I was proven wrong! It had been taken into account and fitted perfectly into the story!
Last, but not least, once more we saw all the fighters and their own stories intertwining.
I absolutely loved the last scene and how things are progressing from there!
It is a rather peculiar storyline, with such a choice of "bad guys", but I liked the way I was guided through the madness and our heroes emotions, in such troubled times.

This is another series book that you can read as a stand alone but, it's even more interesting if you've read the others as you will enjoy it even more when you read about the other characters that have been in precious books.
This book is about MMA fighter Denver Lucas, who has had a serious crush on Cherry Peyton for quite a while but, won't do anything about it because he thinks she's a true flirt and she's also the roommate of one of his best friend's sister.
On the other hand, Cherry's been in love with Denver for quite a while.
They have one HOT night together then, realize they can't be without each other.
Cherry has quite the history with 3 men who claim to be her brothers and will not leave her alone. They refuse to give up on her, even when they realize she has her own protector. Problem is, there's even more of Cherry's hx. that she continues to refuse to share with Denver.
It just keeps getting better and more fascinating by the page!

Really enjoyed this second foray into Lori Foster's Ultimate series.
Denver Lewis is set for a break out into the big time as a heavyweight fighter. He can't afford to let himself be distracted. Even by his long time hard crush on Cherry Peyton.
Cherry is a sweet bundle of curves that has been eyeing Denver for just as long so when the opportunity arises she makes a move to put them both out of their misery.
Of course, things never quite go as planned and Denver and Cherry are thrown into a dangerous situation involving secrets from her past that have come back to haunt her.
While Denver and Cherry's story is hot and exciting, I'm sure that readers are going to be clamoring for Armie's book. I found myself smirking at every scene he was in. This was a great, fun read that was helped to heat up a cold, rainy day.

What can I say about Cherry and Denver's story? It was a wonderfully written one. It took be a little to get sucked into the story, but that may have been the outside world instead of the writing. Denver was a sexy, possessive, alpha male who wanted Cherry. Ghosts from his past prevented him from going after her. Cherry knew she wanted Denver from the moment she saw him, and she pressed the issue until he finally gave in. It was a good thing she did because they were perfect for each other and Denver was able to be there when Cherry started getting harassed by her foster brothers. This was a great book and the perfect addition to the Ultimate series. It set up Stack and Vanity's story perfectly, so I now eagerly anticipate that one. This book gets 5 stars along with a must read recommendation from me.

Holding Strong begins when Denver, whose been avoiding Cherry for a while now, decides that it is time to give in. He thought some pretty crazy things about her, so he avoided her, but she's been trying to get with him for a while. And once that happens things go very very bad. Cherry's past seems to be coming back to haunt her, and before long so does Denver's. But these two both know how they feel about each other, but they aren't sure where to go from here. They have to figure it out before it is all too late.
This book was very good! I really enjoyed the whole plot line, and I loved Cherry and Denver, especially together. Cherry's "family" was pretty creepy, but other then that I really enjoyed this book! I love this series as well, and I can not wait to read the next book!

I've read Lori Foster for years and her books have never disappointed me. Holding Strong is now one of my favorites. Denver and Cherry's story is amazing. Denver finally decides to stop fighting his attraction and it just gets HOT, HOT, HOT from that point on. As their relationship develops, both Denver and Cherry are dealing with issues from their pasts that continue to haunt them. They learn to accept the help of their friends and especially to trust in each other. This book also gives some delicious glimpses into Stack's and Armie's future stories. Lori Foster has me so ready for these 2 books that I want to volunteer to clean her house, cook her meals, walk her dog just so she can devote all her time to writing the Stack/Vanity and Armie/Merissa stories!

Denver is a sex-on-a-stick alpha male that me fall for him for his tender side as much as his protective side. I loved seeing him take care of Charity when she was sick and his patience in getting her to open up to him. I had a harder time connecting with Charity, but by the end of the book, I had a better sense of who she was. Circumstances forced them to spend so much time together, that it rushed the pace of their relationship a bit. The friendships formed between the fighters and their circle of friends is amazing - I love the way they always look out for each other. Looking forward to Stack's story in the next book, but I can't wait for Armie's - he is my favorite!

You can’t go wrong with another entry into Foster’s MMA heroes. This time it’s Denver’s turn. Denver has been avoiding spending time with Cherry because he knows he’s no good for her. But when she starts flirting with other fighters, he decides it’s time to do something about his feelings. No sooner do they take the jump and start a relationship, than Cherry’s horrible childhood comes around to haunt her. What we and Denver learn about what Cherry went through growing up will break your heart. And the men who show up to torture Cherry are truly awful people. Luckily Cherry has Denver and all the fighters watching her back. Another winner.

Cherry drove me absolutely crazy. She was too stubborn and independent to the point of pig headed. Not wanting help from the people that care about her. It was frustrating at times.
Denver was awesome. He was possessive, and protective, and jealous in a sexy way. One thing that I didn't like was his first instinct to keep things to himself while he wanted Cherry to share everything, but he got over it. I liked them together.
Overall, it was a decent book. I'm kind of looking forward to the rest of series, since we got a taste of the couples to come.

I haven't met a Lori Foster book yet I haven't enjoyed. This series is just as great as the others, it was nice to see Rowdy and a few of the gang mixed in with Denver and his friends, family I should say. I really enjoyed how this book turned out, drama but the right kind. It's nice to read a book that isn't quite like the rest. I have to say that I LOVED Denver but I've got my eye on Armie, I can't wait to read his story. As for Cherry I was pleasantly surprised with the strength her character had. It was refreshing to see read a strong heroine! Can't wait for the next one!

Back to the rec center, we find ourselves getting Denver and Cherry's story in the second book of Foster's Ultimate series. It seems the two have had their eyes on each other for awhile but Denver feels Cherry is just a flirt and Cherry just isn't sure how Denver feels about her. This seems to be the theme of this group as a similar story with Armie is flushing out in this book as well.
Cherry has some issues from her past growing up with drug addicts for parents and then being placed in Foster Care with a family worse than her original parents. This hasn't caused Sherry to have many issues with connection though it does pose a problem for her when her past comes back and threatens the new relationship she is forging with Denver.
Denver too has his own issues with a stepmother but I don't think it really impacts much on Denver's ability to form an attachment to Cherry. He seems like a pretty good guy all around and is wanting to help Cherry whether she wants it or not.
This book was ok but it just lacked the substance I am looking for in stories. I didn't understand Denver's attraction to Sherry other then her assets, and I'm not talking about her bank account. We just don't get enough on Cherry to make me understand what puts her above the others. The issue from Sherry's past was ok but didn't intrigue me or make me feel real sorry for her, I think the whole thing with the bugs just seemed weird.
A bright side to the story once again is Armie. He seems like a pretty funny guy but I think his book, when it comes out might be a little too similar in that he likes Rissa but something holds him back and I think it will be a lot of back and forth between the two. Before that we will get Stack's book first. That one may be interesting because I don't really have a good feel for Stack and I wonder what's his story.

Lori Foster has a way of creating a fantastic story involving love, danger, drama and some extremely handsome fighters. Denver is attracted to Cherry but fights the attraction thinking that she is a flirt. Cherry tries to conceal her feelings for Denver but finally goes after what she wants. When the two get together Cherry's past comes back to create trouble. Denver and the gang protect those in their group. This is a wonderful story showing that you can overcome your past and be anything that you want to be.

I just loved Denver and Cherry. I loved how strong and independent Cherry is and how she went after Denver. Denver is strong, protective and maybe a little hypocritical at times, but I loved him just the same. I really loved this book and the family atmosphere between all the fighters. The story is very well written and the characters are amazing. This one will keep you on the edge of your seat to see what is going to happen next. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Lori Foster's stories are always very quick reads and extremely difficult to put down once you begin. Holding Strong very much follows suit, grabbing you from the very first paragraph and not letting you go. I love watching Denver and Cherry's story unfold, taking a few twists that I did not see coming. I loved the glimpse into the world of MMA fighting. While Holding Strong is the second book in the Ultimate series, it can easily be read as a stand alone. I am very much looking forward to picking up the first book and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Is it bad that I picked an ARC from one of my favorite authors and a series I love to start the year with? NAH! I didn't think so either.
I absolutely LOVE this series and these MMA fighters. Denver and Cherry are amazing not only together but fighting the bad guys too. Oh boy, now I can't wait for Stack and Armie's HEA. Man did Armie grow some in this book and the scenes between Stack and her...let's just say their book will be HOT! Bonus..we got to see Rowdy again, he's still my fav. Double Bonus..Cannon bonus chapter.

Cherry has had a rough childhood and works at a daycare. Denver is a MMA fighter and he's attracted to Cherry but thinks she flirts too much. While out of town for the fights, her and Denver hook up. When her foster brothers come and start making trouble, she finally opens up to Denver. And he'll do anything to protect her. I loved Denver!!!! He is the type of guy all girls dream about having. Cherry is strong and independent. Great story. Sex and sexy fighters.

Holding Strong by Lori Foster is a 2015 HQN Publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley.
Sports heroes are really hot right now and although I have never actually watched these types of fighting matches, I liked the idea of the MMA as the backdrop instead of the usual baseball or football trope. I've read a introduction novella for this series and was intrigued enough by it to check out one of the full length stories.
Denver and Cherry wanted each other... bad. But, Cherry scares the you know what out of Denver because deep down he knows she is not just a hook up. So, he has kept her arm's length, and although dejected, Cherry has given him his space. But, the tension simmers between them even from afar and Denver finally relents and accepts the inevitable.
I'm one of those romance readers that likes a slow build up in most instances, but in this case releasing the tension early actually worked out for the best. Denver is one hundred percent alpha male and has serious jealousy issues, while Cherry is an outrageous flirt. This causes problems in the relationship of course, but these are the least of the couple's problems as people from Cherry's past come calling and they are obviously dangerous and persistent.
Denver also has a complicated family history that was more than a little out there, but it too must be addressed and Cherry works out great as a mediator.
Denver's character was sometimes offensive when he used terms some of us ladies find offensive and his over the top jealousy bordered on controlling and hadn't Cherry already had enough of that in her life?
The story sputtered and spewed, on one minute, off the next. I could get into a chapter and think the pace was about to pick up only to have it bogged down again either with yet another sex scene, a side story, or one of Denver's jealousy episodes. There were perhaps too many threads going at once, and the story never really came together cohesively.
The suspense level also suffered from too many interruptions, but the baddies did give me the shivers. Denver's family situation was so weird I had a hard time understanding how they were all going to move on as if nothing ever happened. That would be a hard thing to put out of one's mind, but Denver does not blame his dad and I agree that relationship deserves a second chance.
Over all this one didn't work out for me as well as I had hoped it would. It was just OK. 2.5 rounded to 3

Holding Strong Is the best Lori Foster book yet. Denver is the perfect leading man. He's sweet, protective and possessive of Cherry and tough as nails when he has to be. Cherry never thought they'd get together and when they did, she doesn't let her past or his get in their way, even though things try to get out of hand. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance and everyone who is a Lori Foster fan.

Another fighter book, I mean who doesn't love them some MMA fighters? At first I was a little confused reading this book on who was who. I felt like it picked up really quick and I was left behind. But once I got all our characters straight, it all made sense.
I can't believe all the drama Lori has in store for us in this book. Foster families, step parents, wow. And it's crazy drama! But I loved every second.
I loved that our characters had been pining after one another for so long. And I love that her being sick is ultimately what tipped the scale and kind of forced them together. I did get a little annoyed with her lack of truth and being completely honest. Like she was a bit of a hipocrite. She wanted him to be honest with her, but yet she was holding back. What I really loved the most is the way the whole rec center banded together to take care and protect her. I love that she gets a sense of family from that. However, I'm still confused on why ARmie is dodging the SBC. But... we also get to see a little more of our characters from the first book, and who wouldn't love that!
I really liked this book. At times, it seemed a little wordy and I had to skim the paragraphs to get to a good part, but all in all it was a good book.

We met Denver in No limits, a hot heavyweight fighter. He's attracted to Cherry but he's trying to avoid the temptation. Cherry is lusting after Denver but when her past comes knocking on her door, Denver will do anything to protect her. I'm not going to give you any spoilers but Lori Foster's never disappoints. If you like romance, suspense, and some steamy scenes you won't regret reading this book. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Once again, I am impressed with the fact that Lori Foster writes a strong enough story to make me want to read about a sport in which I have absolutely no interest. Her characters are usually so multi layered and vivid that they could be dropped in almost any setting and I would still have cared about their journey to happily ever after. The only reason I gave this one only a 3 star review was that the characters didn't experience much growth through the story, they were a bit shallow and the action sequences were quite few and far between. The secondary characters were quirky and interesting, and I can see myself reading the entire series, as I think it will grow on me. This story was not as strong as I would have liked, the pacing seemed slower than the first book in the series, Holding Strong did, however, stand alone well and the settings seemed detailed and easy to visualize. This one almost seemed more Young Adult than straight Contemporary.

Note: I basically have two review modes for less than positive reviews. I will either give a book this kind of review because it's dog shi! and nobody should read it or because it just does not suit my personal taste. In this case, it's the latter. I can't personally say I loved this book but i can see how some people who are picky in different ways than me might enjoy it. I'm not abdicating my reviewer responsibility, I'm not afraid to say nobody should read a book, that just isn't my honest opinion in THIS case.
Holding Strong is about Cherry and Denver overcoming their misconceptions of one another and then surviving an external threat to Cherry which challenges their developing relationship.
I can honestly tell you that I hated the first 20% of this book. The opening scenes turned me off so much, I put this book down for two weeks before coming back and trying again. I don't want to spoil anything but the language of the opening scenes was like eating something that leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
First, Denver refers to Cherry as "girl" and instead of going away, it becomes an actual thing in the book. For example "You're tense from head to toes, girl. Take a deep breath." I expect my girlfriends and male friends who are more like my girlfriends (if you know what I mean) to call me girl. In no way do I find a man calling a woman who he is romantically interested in "girl" sexy. Just, no.
Second, beyond that one specific thing is the other language in the beginning of the book just struck me as very outdated high school. Another example, Denver tells Cherry "...your BOD, your attitude...drove me nuts." I was like, I'm sorry, did you just say BOD? Dude, Saved By The Bell called and they want their word back! (Another note, an erection is referred to as a boner....by an adult...).
Last, there are several references to women being gossipy and petty. That might be true, I can't speak for all women (hint hint author) but the thing that bothered me was that the MEN in the book seem just as "gossipy and petty" as the women. The author never points out that fact though.
Ok so you're probably wondering why I still say I can see this book being a good choice for some readers. Well, not everything I just talked about bothers everybody. To me those are individual quirks that you might not share. Also, after I picked this book up after the first 20%, I found myself holding my nose at some of the language but enjoying the story. There was too much information about the background of the MMA league in the book that I just didn't care about but I really liked reading about the other fighters. In fact, if Ms. Foster writes about Armie and Vanity, I will probably try those books (God please let the "girl" references die a quick death). The story eventually developed a good pace and I actually got into the plot line.
The angst in the relationship is a little too drawn out for my taste. Cherry is that typical poor female heroine who doesn't want to accept anything from Denver even though she needs help. We see that a lot and it's a bit boring and irritating to me. Denver is also a little typical in his desire to protect Cherry and sometimes that ish can cross into creepy paternalism that isn't sexy. Speaking of sexy, I give the sex scenes in this book a thumbs down. They just weren't well described but again, some people are not as nasty as me and don't care.
Summary: This book triggered too many of my personal hang ups for me to enjoy it but if you're ok with what I've discussed here, give it a try. I will actually give this author another chance. I'm interested to see what she does with some of the supporting characters from this book.

I don't think I have ever read a LF book that I didn't love. She writes characters we can laugh, cry, and lust with. Denver and Cherry were so amazing together and I enjoyed seeing Denvers caring side. I really can't wait for Armie's story, I have been saying that since Cannon and Yvettes book but it seems we will have Stack and Verity first, which is not a problem for me.

Hot! Hot! Hot! Denver and Cherry really do steam up the pages of this book. I love the love story in Ms. Foster's books but I also love the little mystery and suspenseful action she includes that makes all her books so hard to put down until the book is finish. You'll never be disappointed in any of her books. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Denver and Cherry have been interested in one another from the start but neither was sure of the other's feeling so danced around each other for quite a while. So much fun watching it all get resolved! Also great to see old friends Dare and Reese and Rowdy, and Havoc and Sublime again.

Well, I lost a night of sleep because I could not stop listening to the Audible version of this book. I loved every single book in this series. Lori does not disappoint and neither does Jim Frangione. He is the perfect narrator for these books. Keep them coming Lori and keep Jim. I am looking forward to the next book!

Lori Foster has written another amazing book. Denver and Cherry have to both come to terms with their pasts before they can have a future together. I like how characters from previous books make guest appearances.

Lori Foster's books are like wine to me. A treat that I look forward to at every turn. This book like the other fighter books has a strong guy there to take care of the woman in need. I liked it but it was not my favorite.

I absolutely loved this book. It was a wonderful read from the beginning to the end. All the character from the leads to the secondary characters are all so well developed that you feel like you get to know each one intimately. Lori Foster never fails to disappoint!

I have read a few of her books. Every time I think well this one sounds good but I am always disappointed. The plot is ok but the characters talk like they are 13 years old and the writing is very disjointed. It goes over the same thing over and over again and nothing ever happens. I am reading some of these other reviews and thinking did we read the same book?? It was not hot, not suspenseful, not exciting. I want my 7.99 back!

3.5 stars--HOLDING STRONG is the second full length installment in Lori Foster’s contemporary adult Ultimate romance series focusing on a group of MMA fighters and the women they love. This is heavy weight fighter Denver Lewis and Cherry Peyton’s storyline. Although HOLDING STRONG is the third storyline in the series it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storylines is revealed where necessary.
Told from third person point of view, the focus of the storyline follows the push and pull of attraction and want between Denver Lewis and Cherry Peyton. Cherry is a new fan of the MMA, but more so a fan of Denver Lewis. Their attraction to one another does not go unnoticed by the other members of the fight club, but Denver continues to resist the allure of the woman who calls to his heart. When one too many men pay attention to Cherry’s innocent flirts, Denver knows that it is time to claim Cherry as his own.
Cherry has a dark and painful past; a past that demands something from Cherry that she is unable to give. Threats and dangerous situations will find Cherry under the protection of not only Denver but the other MMA fighters as well. The camararderie and friendships are tight; each member of the club supports, protects and has one another’s best interests at heart.
Denver’s past finds our hero estranged from his family. When his step-mother places him in a precarious situation, Denver finds himself on the outside, without his father’s support and faith. Our hero is an alpha male; over protective when it comes to the woman he loves but in this, he is also aware, that her past has made threats and promises to make good.
The relationship between our couple is one of immediate attraction; a lust filled need between two people who have yet to give into the demands of their mutual desires. Denver and Cherry have been dancing around one another for quite a while, and Cherry demands to know if Denver has any interest or if it is better that she just walk away. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive but not overly erotic.
The secondary and supporting characters are very active throughout the story. The previous storylines couples are present including Gage and Harper/ Cannon and Yvette as well as the MMA fighters Stack and Armie whose own storylines are beginning to emerge. As Cannon and Yvette prepare for their upcoming nuptials, Denver and Cherry consider a more permanent relationship. Offers of something bigger and better will see one of the fighters pondering a move out of town and state.
HOLDING STRONG has a little bit of everything: sex, romance, intrigue, suspense and a quick dash of mystery. The writing style is simple; there are no difficult plot scenarios or twists. The characters are flawed but likeable; everyone needs a happily ever after.

Once again, Lori Foster has written a story full of heart. Her re-entrance into the MMA genre is amazing!
Denver is big, tough just as a heavyweight fighter should be. And he's a little hung up on Cherry. But she's a flirt and a tease. Denver has watched the woman in action. That's a deal breaker because he doesn't share...Ever.
Cherry has always cared for Denver. Probably more than she should. Getting her heart broken isn't something she wants to happen. And the sexy fighter could do just that.
One night in a hotel room seals Denver's fate. Now if he can find a way to keep his heart safe.
Except danger from Cherry's past threatens her life and Denver finds out just how far he's willing to go to not only keep Cherry safe, but make her his.
Holding Strong is a wild, steamy ride that will make your heart pound and make you want to grab a fan.

This is an excellent addition to this Ultimate series of books with the love story of Denver and Cherry. There is non stop action and suspense with Denver doing everything in his power to win Cherry' s trust and to protect from her past. Cherry had liked Denver from the first day that she met him but he was trying to resist her but was not doing a very good job of it. He was jealous of every man that came near her until one guy would not take the hint and that made Denver snap into action to protect her. They had all driven up to watch the match and were staying over so Denver asked if she would go back to their hotel together and she could not believe he finally noticed her. They spent the night together making love and she fell asleep with him not realizing that she was actually sick with a fever and cough. This was the beginning of their love story where he took care of her and nursed her back to health and became her protector against her criminal foster brothers that were stalking her. It was amazing to read about this group of boxers that looked out for each other and their loved ones. Cherry had to learn to trust Denver because she always had to look out for herself but now she had to believe what her heart was telling her that he would be there for her. It was a fabulous hot suspenseful romance that kept you on the edge of your seat as Cannon, Armie, Stack and Denver worked together to take down these evil guys that were intent on hurting Cherry and everyone in their way. Denver and Cherry's happily ever after was a story you do not want to miss reading because it was about two people that learned to trust and open their hearts to love. I am looking forward to Stacks and Vanity' s love story next in this series.

I swear to god Lori Foster can't write a bad book! Everything she comes out with is just absolutely amazing! Her fighters are just beyond sexy and dominate and damn near perfect! Now Holding Strong is book 2 in the Ultimate series and its Denver and Cherry's story and it's about time too! I am seriously loving watching all these bad boys fall and fall hard haha Denver is no exception and he's just no match....scratch that he and Cherry are a perfect match for each other and I couldn't be happier to watch them fall together in naughty bliss!! It's so steamy and just yummy. And we get to see more Armie!! Sorry sorry Denver and Cherry. Ok. It was shocking to see... I mean hear (seriously Lori writes so good feel like you are there!) just how Cherry's past had played out and Denver's past issues with family. It's hard not to be horrified for Cherry and what she went through and Denver for the horrible situation he was put in I was so angry for them both. But this story shows that no matter where you came from or whatever you endured to get you where you are today you are a strong, capable, independent person and no one has a right to take that away. Lori Foster always puts such very real situations in her books and shows us how each character goes through the motions just like how real life people do and she does it with amazing skill and understanding that it feels so freaking real that you feel like you're actually living it, every breath, every hurt, every danger, every sinfully naughty moment and more you actually fantasize so deep you think it's you and damn if when you hit the last page reality sets in! Sigh...... Nobody does fighters like Lori Foster nobody!
