Judy Blume's Fudge-a-Mania is an amazing book.It is about Peter, his brother Fudge and his parents who decide to rent a summer home next door to his worst enemy,Sheila Tubman. And to make it even worse,Fudge plans to marry Sheila Tubman! To find out what happens you have to read this book. Fudge-a-Mania! Blume created one funny event after another in this story. I laughed every time I picked it up. I love that she is so creative with her story. ~Daisy Duck

If you like Judy Blume books and if you are a funny person, then Fudge-A-Mania is the right book for you! Don't blame Peter because he might start trouble. Fudge is even more troublesome than Peter! My favorite part is when Fudge starts trouble with Peter. Fudge claims that he wants to marry Sheila Tubman, Peter's most annoying enemy. When Peter hears about Fudge's plan, he can't stand the idea. I love Judy Blume books because they have awesome realistic details. They are like my number one favorite books. Get your read on with more Judy Blume books because her books rock! And if you have a baby brother like Fudge, bop him on the head so he won't annoy you!

(...) This is about a family with two boys named Peter and Fudge. Peter is in 7th grade and has always been in the same class as this annoying girl that he hates. Fudge is starting Kindergarten and is obsessed with money. He got so obsessed that he started making his own paper money. He also "mised" his money which also means couting. He thought that he could buy new York City just because in the old days, the Duke paid $24 which was a lot back then. Peter thinks there is something wrong with him, but his parents just think it is a stage.
Since Fudge is only in Kindergarten, he still does tantrums. One day he needed new shoes. When he got to the shoe store, he wanted the same exact shoes as his big brother, Peter, but they didn't have the same exact shoes for the size of Fudge's feet. So he had a tantrum, and didn't stop yelling till the shoe store owner gave Fudge a lollipop.
The weirdest part was when they bumped into their cousin. They had gone on a trip to Washington D.C, and they were in a gift shop, when they suddenly bumped into their cousin. They met their children, and to their surprise, their son looked just like Fudge. Peter was so surprised because he already had one pesky Fudge, and now there were TWO!

I think you might want to read this book because the book keeps you guessing what will happen next. It's a good book beacuse it's full of suspense. Also, the book is full of humor. I think if you read this book you will enjoy it.
I learned that even if you fight with your siblings or family members ,you still love each other. If you don't like your cousins, you have to find ways to get along because they will always be part of your family.

I like Fudge, I really do. But sometimes these books, as much as I love them, get on my nerves. My biggest problem with Double Fudge is Blume's portrayal of homeschoolers. Homeschoolers are not dorky and weird, these are stereotypes, that, though often funny can be too much.
In general though, the books are amusing and easy to read, but please, Judy Blume, try to control yourself when it comes to writing about homeschoolers and the like.

I did not like Judy Blume's double fudge AT ALL! The only reason I picked up this LAME book was because I liked her book tales of the Forth Grade Nothing and thought that I might like this as well but boy I was wrong, by the time I got to chapter 3 I desisted that this FAIL of fiction was just skipping over peters life and yammering on and on about fudge's CRAZED obsession for Out of every thing STINKING money she picked money . I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AT ALL.

I think this book this book is fun and interesting to read because it's funny when you read beginning chapter and it's Interesting because in a sudden shock they bump into their long lost cousin, cousin Howie. I also think this book is kind of a good example for little kids that they won't start making fake money and try to use it, and another good example is that it teaches kids to NOT be obsessed with money. I also think this is a good book because it entertains you at least once in one chapter.

This book is a good book because this boy like,s money so much he like,s to draw ,and dream about money he is even cray about money. And his name is Fudge he also has a cusien that look,s just like him. And Fudge has a sister and his sister has a friend and his name is Jimmy. And Jimmy is moving and one day Fudge and his sister were on the subway and Fudge lost his shoe that is why ilike this book.

I thought the book was okay. I didn't like all the parts. Some parts were funny and some were really boring. Fudge is an okay character but he is not really that funny. The funniest character I thought was Peter. Peter says funny stuff sometimes mostly when he is telling Fudge something. Fudge doesn't know a lot of things like about money. He thinks money grows on trees. Fudge is very funny sometimes but not all the times. Fudge says weird things sometimes. For the most part the book was Ok.

The title of the book is Double Fudge. The author is Judy Blume. The best part of the book is when Fudge fed turtle his chewed up rice cake. My favorite character is Fudge or in other words Farley Drexel Hatcher but don't call him that or he might freak out. Here I wrote a short summary for you...........
A kid named Fudge is obsessed with money. He plans to buy the world or at least TOYS "R" US. Fudges parents take him and his brother peter to Washington and they run into there long lost cousin Howie. Fudge finds out that cousin Howies sons name is Farley Drexel Hatcher which makes Fudge so made. What will Fudge do?
If I were to rate this book out of 5 it would be 4 because it is a very good book.

Double Fudge is one of the best books in the whole series of Fudge books. You can never predict what a character in the book might do on the next page. The author, Judy Blume, made this a great book by surprising her readers using something funny. Fudge is one of the funniest characters and Peter, his older brother always has to stop him.Too bad for Peter because Fudge is like a train that could not be stopped.
In every book in the series, the author uses a new idea and I say the best idea was Fudge being obsessed with money. This idea is actually in the book of Double Fudge. Another thing good about this book is you don't have to read the rest of the series to understand it.All I can say about Double Fudge is I love it. When you finally read this book, I think you'll agree with my review.I highly recommend this book to whoever that is reading this review to read it.

My opinion for the book is 5 stars because I think it was funny, disastrous and, coincidental. Fudge loves money and he wants to buy Disney World or Toys-R-Us. The Hatchers meet their long-lost relitives, the Howies. The Howies explore the country and they came to N.Y.C to stay at the Hatcher's. They have all their moments and they make out just fine together.

As a fourth grade teacher, I love reading the Fudge books to my students. They love hearing what Fudge is up to. My students were so excited when Double Fudge was published. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to laugh. Fudge is always funny. In the story, Fudge is five (almost six) and Peter is in 7th grade. As everyone knows Fudge has his own way of seeing things--Fudge has not changed. Fudge is obsessed with MONEY. He is always talking, singing, counting, or trying to acquire money. He even creates his own money "Fudge Bucks". The Hatchers go to Washington D.C. to show Fudge how real money is created. The family meets their long lost cousins. The cousins come home with the Hatchers. Poor Peter, now he has to deal with Fudge, the Natural Beauties, and the new Farley Drexel Hatcher. Another Fudge, OH, NO!

I'm a big fan of Judy Blume and the "Fudge" series. The characters are always realistic (you feel like you know them -- almost too well!) and their antics are often hilarious. In "Double Fudge," Farley Drexel Hatcher, aka Fudge, discovers the joys of money. The antics that follow his discovery are quite funny. Not my favorite "Fudge" book to date, but it leaves room for a sequel and I will never hestitate to read a "Fudge" book.

The Fudge books are very good. Personally, I think "Double Fudge" is the best because Fudge is older and has a twin. They don't call him "Fudge." His name is Farley Drexel and Fudge's real name is the same thing. The book has another part of the family come in, which is a very funny scene. I know you will enjoy this book if you buy it.

Fudge fans should definetly buy this book as it as interesting and funny as any of the previous novels in the Fudge series.
This time around, Fudge's newfound obsession with money leads the family into meeting some crazy cousins, who invite themselves to stay with Peter's family and cause all sorts of headaches. Definetly a book children should read, this book, and the rest of the series, are highly reccommended.

The book was about a kid named Pete, and his brother named Fudge, and he has a younger sister named Tootsie. And Fudge loves money. He thinks he can't have enough of it. He even made his own kind of money called Fudge buck. This was a good comedy book and I would recommend it to kids. It is a really good book.

I read Double Fudge. It's a fiction chapter book. It's about Fudge and Peter and how they meet their long lost cousins, the Howies. And it's a book about how Fudge is in love with money. Do you like money? If you do, you'd be a lot like Fudge.
Do you know what Peter's dad (if you've read any of the books)nickname was? Guess what happened to Fudge's Bird? Guess what they called the two daughters of the Howies? Well, you're just gonna have to read the book to find out.
I would TOTALLY recommend this book to anybody who has ever read a Fudge book. OR to anybody who wants to read this book. This book is TOTALLY worth your time.
Love, Mariah D.

When I was in 4th grade I had my art teacher, Mrs. Keenan, read this book to us at the end of the class. I remember how much I looked forward to know what was going to happen next. Her reading to the class was a great gift to all. Now, that I am in similar shoes I want to share the experience. I read the book and it's still a GREAT and FUN read. I can't wait to start sharing it with my students.

I think that most disappointing thing about _Double Fudge_ is that Judy Blume dated the book. She mentions MTV and Nickelodeon and Harry Potter and Instant Messaging. That's all well and good for a kid reading the book today, but how will it hold up over time? _Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing_ was first published in 1972, yet it is still really popular reading today. There are no cultural references to date the text. In 30 years will there still be MTV, Nickelodeon and IM? Harry Potter, maybe, as he is the biggest commercial blight to hit children's lit since I don't know when...but I wonder how relevant Peter's world will be to kids reading the Fudge series in 2033. I just think its a shame, that's all...that Blume would date the book in such a way, given that she never did before this latest installment in the series. What's up with that? What if Beverly Cleary woulda written that Mr. and Mrs. Quimby were watching "Love American Style" or Beezus and Ramona loved to listen to the Bay City Rollers on 8 track? See what I mean?

The book Fudge-Amania is one of my favorite books. It's about a boy named Peter Hatcher. He is 12 years old, and lives in a apartment with his mom, dad, Mitzy (his youner sister) and his annoying little brother Fudge. His next door neighbor is a pain. Her name is Sheila. She is worse then just a pain, actually she's the biggest brat in the world. Well, at least thats what Peter thinks. I think that Judy Blume the author, was trying to tell you about real life. In this case it is everyday situations. I like this book a whole lot because it relates to me and my family, and it's really funny.

Pretty sad when a children's author can attack and stereotype a huge part of her reading audience. My kids are homeschooled and we were given this book in a batch of books from a friend. It's going in the trash - not even going to pass it along to our friend with kids in school. Does Judy Blume not realize what she's saying about the very kids who devour her books? My kids love the other Fudge books, but not this one! Very sad and disappointing that an author would want to make children reading her books feel badly about themselves.

I loved this book! I laughed out load reading it. Reading children's literature is my job (elementary media specialist), but
this was a complete joy. I had to borrow the book from a 4th grader so I could read the last chapter... I was dying to finish it and had left my copy at home. I highly recommend it for any reader, but especially for fans of the series. Fudge is still Fudge!

I appreciate another reviewer's warning about the book, so I checked it myself. At the very end a childhood belief is spoiled.
The book may be very clever otherwise, but I'll keep it away from my kids. I want the magic to last as long as I can. Why did Judy Blume have to do that?

Peter and his brother Fudge live in New York with their mom, dad, and sister Tootsie. Peter has a friend named Jimmy and an enemy named Sheila. Jimmy's parents are divorced. Fudge is obsessed with money and he is a miser - he even dresses as a miser for Halloween. Since Fudge is obsessed with money, Grandma decides to take Fudge to the mint in Washington D.C. At the mint Peter and his family meet some relatives, "the lost cousins." The relatives have twin girls and one boy. The girls are close to Peter's age and the boy is 2 years younger than Fudge. The lost relatives stay at Peter's family's apartment and have a lot of adventures.
I like Judy Blume because in her Fudge series she puts in a lot of humor. She knows what kids think is funny (" I'm low on cash" whispered mom. "I have some fudge bucks," said Fudge). I like this book because it is funny and it is different from the other books in the series; a lot of things happen out of the blue, such as the lost relatives appearing at the mint, and it has a lot more characters. Having more characters is good because it gives you more to think about. Judy Blume is my favorite author. Double Fudge is my favorite book.

My daughter's 4th grade teacher read Double Fudge to the class early in this school year, so I read it to see what it was all about. On the surface, this is a funny book. However, inappropriate values can be put in people's minds by the use of humorous stories. Double Fudge introduces several concepts which we as parents and teachers must correct, i.e. obsession with money, inappropriate sexual relationships, improper parenting styles and the approval of illegal activities.
The author views the world through the eyes of a 7th grader, the narrator. The book brings up ideas such as divorce and moving that are appropriate topics for discussion in a 4th grade class. However, underlying the humorous banter the author is conveying three messages that are neither helpful nor appropriate. Additionally, she includes references to two illegal activities. These are discussed below; page numbers are included parenthetically.
1. Morals and values.
1.1. Howie and Eudora ask about the morals and values of the family with which Flora & Fauna want to have an overnight stay.
1.2. Fudge's parents respond with an incredulous "morals, values?" as if they have never considered morals and values to have any place in their lives.
1.3. The author has attributed morals and values to the book's resident wackos (Howie & Eudora), thereby conveying to the reader that such ideas are not important or are only important to wacky people (153).
1.4. Howie & Eudora are initially portrayed as a simple, slightly wacky couple that have values and care about their health. As the story plays on, they abandon their values and lifestyle on the slightest of urgings. For people that have values, to repudiate those values in a week is not credible. This portrays these people as buffoons and is offensive particularly because they are the only main characters in the book that at any time evidence values.
1.5. The author's goal appears to be to teach that values are either relative or irrelevant.
2. Sexual Immorality.
2.1. Jimmy's new digs do not have bedroom walls (54).
2.1.1. This is no big deal when it is just Jimmy & his dad, but later, it certainly appears that dad's girlfriend "Giraffe neck" lives there as well or is at least staying over. While it is possible that "Giraffe neck" stayed at home and came over to cook breakfast, it is a more likely that she simply got out of bed and cooked breakfast (176).
2.2. This, at least, appears to endorse shacking up as a normal life style. If the bedroom walls have not been erected, and we have no evidence that they have been, it appears to endorse voyeurism.
3. Improper parenting styles.
3.1. Fudges parents
3.1.1. They refuse to deal with his unhealthy, prolonged obsession with money. This is first noted by Shelia (7) and continues throughout the book. When others attempt to educate Fudge at the Mint (72), his parents simply brush Fudge's obsession off as just a stage. Apparently, they think that Fudge will figure out the concept of money for himself without parental direction.
3.1.2. They refuse to deal with his direct disobedience (104). Failing to teach kids to be obedient to their parents results in people who do not respect authority and Fudge displays this by consistently calling his teachers by their first names (36).
3.1.3. They allow Fudge to simply run wild in stores to vent when he does not get what he wants or until he gets what he wants.
3.1.3.1. In the shoe store (15) Fudge does not get two pairs of shoes, so he throws a tantrum that is relatively violent and his mom just walks out of the store and lets him go.
3.1.3.2. In a shop at the Mint Fudge is out of control and his parents feed his obsession by caving into his demands to buy a bag of shredded money and a money tie (75). These parents clearly do not have the respect of their kids.
3.2. Cousin Howie and Aunt Eudora
3.2.1. Howie is a model idiot. He practices reckless driving in a golf cart even when it is filled with his and other's kids (96).
3.2.2. Howie and Eudora do not have control over their kids.
3.2.2.1. Flora & Fauna don't let each other or their brother finish their sentences. This is most rude and it is never dealt with by their parents (84).
3.2.2.2. Flora & Fauna sing loudly and uninvited in stores. Even though the reception may be good, this is not proper behavior (87/92).
3.2.2.3. Mini kisses by licking and no one corrects him (157). This is a health hazard to himself and others and yet no one bothers to address this issue.
4. Illegal Acts
4.1. Use of flashing red lights on a private vehicle is illegal unless it is used by a volunteer fireman or paramedic which was not the case in the book. Cousin Howie seems to repeatedly believe that he is above the law and is never reprimanded or punished (164).
4.2. Drugs are alluded to, although not overtly condoned.
4.2.1. The name Camp "Howie Wowie" is a thinly veiled reference to Maui Wowie - the street name for a form of marijuana or methamphetamine (133/137).
2 stars for the humor in the book, 0 stars for values.

As an avid Judy Blume reader, I grew up in the early 90s reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Fudge-A-Mania and SuperFudge. And I am 20 now and I was so excited to hear that their would be a new Fudge book. But this book was not what I was expecting. It mentions cell phones, the internet, and Harry Potter, while in the first three books they were talking about record players and were pictured in bell bottoms!!!!! Now, how can someone teleport in from the 70s to the 2000s in what appears to be only a one or two year age increase????? It makes this book so unrealistic it isn't even funny.

I tkink this book is not good to read. This book is for 10 year olds or under. In this story Fudge is not a good character . He only thinks about money. Then they talk about his dad's lost Cousin.
I think they should add a best friend for dad, like a lost best friend. It's more itresting. I think this story is good for ESL.
