If you enjoy a good action thriller, do yourself a favor and read all five of the Jesse McDermitt series. Fallen Mangrove is the latest in this series and is packed full of action, has a good story line and well drawn characters as do the other four books in this series . I find these books as enjoyable as anything written by Clive Cussler, W.E,B. Webb, Brad Thor or other writers of this genre. I can't wait for Mr Stinnett to release Book Six!

But I get tired of the repeated grammatical error: Me and Rusty will go ... Duece, me, and doc are going .... As examples, over and over . Does an author of this excellent caliber not know this is incorrect ??? Or is the blame on his editor ??? Sorry, it lowers the quality of the writing, and reading. Please get it right next time! I love these stories and the action, though this one was a bit weaker than the others ... I still look forward to the next one. Stinnett writes an action packed story, including so much detail about boats, the Florida Keys, their "toys" and more that I also enjoy learning while I read.

I have read all the Jesse McDermitt books. Fallen Mangrove is as good an any. It a unique view of an unusual life style. There are potentially endless adventures for Jesse and the "crew". My favorite crew member is the dog Fisherman (Pescador). He is of course a symbolic Jesse - focused, intelligent, and heroic. He always seems to have a sense of purpose.
The funniest scene in the book is when Jesse is drugged by the Wicked Witch and walks around for a day or so with an erection!
I really enjoy Stinnett's descriptions of various different women - tender, loving, competent, erotic, and sometimes a little crazy. I only wish each book was twice as long and that there were 20 books rather than 5.

Shades of Travis McGee. This is a really good and salty series. At times a bit unbelievable but overall lots of action. Jesse never did find out what is is a parrot head.

It maay be that this book is just an exception to his previous writing, or his previous successes have gotten in his way of writing, but this book was horrible. For the first time I gave up on this book a third of the way through it. When he meets Kim, his long lost daughter, I wass amazed that someone who had skipped grades, graduated from Duke and spoke Spanish fluently, spoke her native English language so poorly. Of course this could have beenn because the entire part of the book that I did manage to get through was written so grammatically. Punctuation was inconsistent from the beginning and the rules of writing the English language were ignored all through. In trying to make sure this was a stand-alone book in this series, so much was repeated, even in this same book, as to make it seem to me as if I were reading too many of the same things over repeatedly. Too much detail was thrown in about weapons and I found myself tuning out more and more. When it got beyond fiction and started to sound too much like sci-fi, I just gave up. This is one of those books where I really regretted the waste of both time and money. Mr. Stinnett, go back to the drawing board. And find a good editor as well as someone who knows the proper mechanics of the English language. Please!

I've been a real fan of the first four "Fallen" books. This one kind of missed the mark with me. The biggest problem was just too many characters. Before long, I found myself trying to figure out who was talking rather than enjoying the story. Second, I found quite a few things rather unbelievable Doc's family spent 6 generations trying to figure out the riddle and Charlie figures it out in an afternoon. Likewise, if finding buried treasure was as easy as Stinnett makes out, everyone would be out looking. I mean he's found three major treasure finds in six years and found this last one in two days. Third, this novel did not have the character development of previous books. Nevertheless I'm looking forward to the next book.

I like Florida-based mysteries & thrillers. I like the boat culture, the Keys, the bars. My problem with these Jesse McDermitt books is that the author teams him up with all these experts - ex_Navy Seals, ex-marines, tech experts, etc etc then he gives them more guns and firepower than John Wayne needed to take Iwo Jima. I mean mounting a .50 caliber machine gun on your fishing boat? Give me a break. Then despite all these experts and guns, he fails. His boat is stolen by two flakey female assassins while he's below water in scuba gear. He's a supposed tough guy who spends a half an hour underwater in the marina to get the jump on some guy spying on them then stupidly gets knocked unconscious by the same guy a few seconds after getting to of the water. Dumb. The thing that's appealing about Travis McGee and Doc Ford is that they go up against the bad guys as underdogs. THAT'S THE POINT OF READING THRILLER FICTION! The bad guys have all the cards and the good guys still prevail. Not the good guys have more guns than ISIS and still screw up. In the first book I read "Fallen Something" the most appealing character of the book, the female fishing guide(in an ugly and shocking plot twist) is raped, abused and murdered because her idiot husband Jesse McDermitt has all this manpower, technology, firepower, and fastest boat in the Keys and still manages to lose her. A terrible story arc that makes you want to warn female characters "Stay away from this incompetent. Go find Doc Ford or Travis instead."

In action/adventure stories there must be conflict or the story is boring. One of the many choices an author must make in creating a believable story is how to introduce conflict. In this story Stinnett slipped a thin bladed stiletto in between the readers ribs so deftly that I wasn't aware it had happened for a dozen pages after the event.
In previous books of this series we have been educated on the limitations of bugs – listening devices. Here, Stinnett blithely ignores the previously stated physical limitations and wants us to believe the unbelievable, or at least the highly improbable. I'm OK with a listening device that records and then sends bursts two times a day. But unless I'm way out of date with my electronics knowledge, sending, no matter how short the bursts of radio frequency, takes power. A small, concealable device won't have enough battery capacity to create a high power carrier radio signal – not for weeks and weeks as postulated in the story. So... a lower power bug is possible, but there has to be a repeater within range – maybe a few hundred yards at most – and there's never mention one about the low power range limitation. I suppose it's possible, but I call BS! It seems to me that Stinnett has ignored physical limitations in order to advance the story.
Then... Then... A multitude of improbable coincidences dominate the story line. Too many crooks doing too many stupid things. These various scenes require several large doses of suspension of disbelief. Y'all might find that these repeated doses cause a bit of a choke from time to time. As in the previous books of this Jesse McDermitt series I have to put the book down and walk away for a time to let my disbelief settle before I can go back to reading.
At least it's just the bad guys & gals that die in this one.
I'll rate this one as just three stars. It's a short book. Were it in mass market paperback instead of electronic, it would be a thin book. The various supporting characters are not too well fleshed out. The dialog is just OK. For me, and YMMV, there are too many improbable coincidences to easily swallow. But, as before, we civilians will only hear about a tiny percentage of the crap that goes on behind the scenes, so there could be elements of fact mixed in with pure speculative fiction.
As in my previous reviews of this series, the overall story was good enough to get me to the next in the series. I can only hope the next is more believable. We'll see.

Jesse get reunited with his youngest daughter and she is indeed a McDermitt, cut from the same cloth, she's an excellent swimmer, great shot, and only 17, but a high school graduate. Duece and Jesse get involved in tracking sunken Spanish treasure that dates back to the 1533 era. This all from a carved coconut, kept in a trunk that had been in the family for generations, passed down, from father to son, all the way to Nikki, Bob's wife, and once the crew members got involved, the search is on. Jesse's boat and the Anchor bar were bugged by Connor, the lawyer that handled the paperwork on the last salvage, and he and his gangster friends decide to go after the treasure once Jesse and Duece have recovered it. The Galveston Revenge is blown out of the water, but getting permission to salvage the wreck, two bags of uncut emeralds, weapons, and memorable personal items are recovered by Jesse and Duece and a Galveston Revenge II is obtained. The action that takes place will keep you turning pages all the way to the end. Thanks for another great read.

I like the characters and the general idea of the storys. The problem is that the writer isn't very good at actually telling a story. He has characters who are supposed to be super smart, suddenly do stupid stuff when he runs out of anything imaginative to advance the plot. The storys get weaker every book. The only way he knows to add suspense is to keep introducing women into the story for the "bad guys" to threaten. This has gotten so tiresome that this is the last book in the series that I will read.

Like the series. The characters are very well developed, interesting & the good guys are people you would want as friends. I understand the writer wants each of these 10 books to be stand alone stories, but that being said - I don't like the rehashing of all the relationships to bring a new reader up to speed. There is a series-start with the 1st book & then move on to the next. Have enjoyed reading about a life I know nothing about and am greatly thankful for all the men & woman who every day put their lives on the line so that I can enjoy my life living at the beach. Just starting book #8 in the series. Wayne Stinnett thanks for you books.

I started out loving This series. Lots Of interesting info on Florida, guns, boats, fishing, and The military. Unfortunately Mr Srennent seems To forget what he has written. I notices Thérèse are several different authors listed. Perhaps if they should all get together et and decide who can't take The time To get It right and get rid Of him de could go back To enjoying thé story. Until This book Jesse Wore scivvies To bed now he wears shorts. His wife was killed one year qui, two years ago Maybe three years. The boat Was bought some time, who cares at This point. The team Checks out everyone they come in contact With except for thé two beautiful women they allow To dive for treasure With them.Really??? Can not waste and more time on This going no where series.

I'm five books in... I've enjoyed the setting, the characters, the the storylines. But I have to say, I'm getting a little weary of the author sacrificing equipment acquistions and the details of that equipment for storyline and character development. This guy must own a dozen boats by now. I would assume that by the end of the series, he'll be operating a boat sales company. And now he's beginning to own aircraft. This seems like a trivial point, but we spend lots of time in talking about equipment that I would like to see spent on what a character is thinking or feeling. Or even descriptions of the environment and surroundings.
Secondly, in this particular book ( hasn't been as true in the other books), there do many characters introduced that it was difficult to keep up. There were at least 10-12 bad guys. Plus others. After a while, there are simply too many new characters to follow.

In 1556, a Spanish treasure ship is lost in a hurricane near Elbow Cay. Only a few sailors survive and even managed to salvage most of the treasure. They bury the treasure on the island, leaving a clue of it's existence in a young mangrove tree. Now it's up to Jesse McDermitt and his pals to solve the riddle that is housed in a small water-proof box. But, as usual, they'll be in competition with a Miami based Coatian Mob, and there are also a couple others joining the race for the treasure. Readers will enjoy joining this race. It's a fantastic adventure thriller. Also, Jesse adds new transportation for his friends and readers: A 1953 de Havilland Beaver plane with pontoons. A fast, exciting read which really captures your imagination. It doesn't take long to become hooked on all of Wayne Stinnett's gripping and captivating stories. Join the fun!

Am enjoying the intrigue and escapades of McDermott and his island cohorts. There's something so satisfying about going along with him while he takes out the bad guys with his own brand of justice. The tropical island life and bond of loyalty between principal characters is inspiring. If I had one criticism, it would be that sometimes there is more navigation info and jargon than the average reader wants or needs. I'm sure that boat or other pilots follow it with great interest, but most of us wouldn't miss it.

The author stepped in the trap. Either that or he needs a new editor.
I would like to give this story another star or two. It is part of a series that I've enjoyed so far, and would encourage you to read. But, The first third of the book is filled with too much backstory from the previous novels: they become a distraction and add very little to the tale.
I find that authors of many serial novels get engrossed in rehashing what used to be that a faithful reader becomes a bored reader.

Always liked to have print edition in hand until I decided to try one of Stinnett's books. Was fortunate to be able to start with the very first "fallen" book, the beginning, and have been hooked ever since. Description of the Florida areas and boating terms are excellent, and the characters are all entertaining in their own selves. The action is very well scripted and keeps me not wanting to put the book(s) down.
To me, all the old established authors of hard cover books, with the exception of a few, have run out of interesting plots for their characters, so their stories are slow, too detailed with uninteresting facts, and a few are even too long.
There are several good "e-writers" out there and I hope to read more of them.
P.S. this is my first review (hopefully it helps).

This one starts off with good historical fiction, then progresses to the kick butt, THEN take names action that the Jesse McDermitt novels are known for. There is plenty of suspense due to more than one femme fatale, one of whom is especially evil, as well as the multiple double-crossing bad guys who seem to slither out from under every rock in South Fl. It was a fast read for me due to the pace of the action which kept me interested (and up late) just to see what happened next. I would recommend this novel.

First, too many characters to keep track of. Second, in today's world, we are expected to believe that Homeland Security would let the people responsible for so many deaths@off the hook. Especially when taking in the international angle. The first couple of books were entertainingly, but the more that is written the worse they get. Third, spent way too much time giving a back history on the primary and secondary characters.

This is the third book I have read in the "Fallen Series". It is complex with several plots and you have to keep reading in order to keep track of the players. The author gives you detailed descriptions of the Key West area and even more of the various waters. If you are former military, you will enjoy any of his books, but especially this one.

'Fallen Mangrove' was a great addition to an awesome series. The story line kept me glued to the pages. Full of action, thrilling scenarios, gorgeous islands and great characters. Jesse is quite the captain. And not only of his boat, but his island as well. He's an all around great leader. I look forward to reading the next book. A great add to your tbr list.

This is a good book, not as good as a couple of his other books but if your a Jesse and Wayne fan you will like this book.
A friend of mine once remarked on a book I was reading it was a Stephen Coonts. She said the books you read are reading are "Bubblegum for the Brain" , like chewing bubble gum they are good for a while but then the flavor is gone and you have to get another piece of gum. She felt I should expand myself by reading the "great authors" . I explained that at least I was exercising my mind by reading bubblegum for the brain. Waynes books are great bubblegum for the brain. I like how he ties the technical side of his writing about, planes, boats, and guns into the novel. A bit of Tom Clancy, Stephen Coonts and Randy Wayne White.
This is not his best work, but its very good. I did not like how Jessee's daughter just appeared (he had not seen her since she was 5 months old and now she s 17) and the next day he is sharing his life story with her. This was a bit out of character for the protagonist based on his behavior in the previous 4 books.
I am being a bit overly critical here but Mr. Stinnett set the bar with his other novels, this one just was not quite up to a couple of the others. With all of that being said, I would buy this book again in a second. This book can stand alone it on if you have never read a Jesse McDermitt book and his style of writing doent make u feel like you missed something.
I look forward to his next book in the series.

Once again this and the other books in this series are a super read. I like all the characters mostly because they are military . Marines are always good for a writer to model after. However this book and the others are part of a series, and it is better to read the whole series starting with Fallen Out. I am on the last book this author wrote in the series, and I know it is going to be as great as the others. I recommend these books to anyone who has read Reacher , who the character at times reminds me of.

I have enjoyed reading all Jesse McD"s adventures. My own experience in navigating through the reefs and islands in the Caribbean has allowed me to relate to and appreciate the accurate descriptions of that unique and beautiful area. Mr. Stinnett's heroic protagonist and friends are very interesting and the stories are truly page-turners. I offer my sincere thanks for the great reads and I'm eager for more. There'll be no nitpicking digs from me about a few grammatical errors, since I'm far from perfect with English grammar and they did not detract a smidgen from the exceedingly readable books.

The more I read of this series the better they get. Just wish Jesse could finally find someone special. But I still love Pescador the most. These are awesome books and keeps me turning the page to see what happens next. I'm a night owl sort of. I only sleep 2 or 3 hours and read or play on FB. Tonight I finished 2 of these, thats how good they are. Couldn't put it down.

This is a great story with lots of action, mystery and suspense. There are a lot of characters to keep track of and many of them have unusual characteristics and/or talents. It is hard to tell who is in charge of the team of good guys: Jesse the boat owner and main character or Deuce the Homeland Security commander.

I enjoyed the first four in this series but this one falls short. Too much left to assumption to the point of being absurd to some degree. He also gets a little political and I really don't need that in a fictional novel. A bit disappointing.

Follows through with the series with lots of twist. I may have missed this before but this book is moving much quicker and the changes from one chapter to the next brings surprises. But poor Jesse never gets a break. Nothing happens without a hitch. Reading Wayne Stinnett is lots of fun and full of adventure now. But what will I do once I've read the whole "McDermott" series. Lost in the mangroves I guess........:

I'm one of Wayne's Beta readers, and I can't express how much I enjoyed reading Fallen Mangrove. I don't know a person who doesn't dream of finding a buried treasure and Fallen Mangrove will keep you on the edge of your seat from the moment you open the cover. Wayne even surprised all of us Beta Readers with a twist toward the end of the book that will blow you out of the water.

With his unique style, writing prolificacy, and meteoritic rise in this business, Wayne Stinnett is fast becoming a phenomenon. Each new book adds innovative dimensions to his standard characters and each plot becomes more intriguing, filled with contemptible villains, saucy ladies, and sharp right angles you rarely see coming.
Stinnett knows South Florida and the Keys well, and as a former soldier he has purchased an understanding of danger with the hard coin of experience. He writes with an air of authority, and those of us who have spent time in the Caribbean or lived on the edge of life a time or two can’t help but shake our heads with admiration as we savor the authenticity in his adventures.
Stinnett has done it again with “Fallen Mangrove.” His newest is packed with all the perfect elements of a Caribbean thriller – a Spanish treasure, mob connections, beautiful women, and action more furious than a full moon tide.
We may be looking at the new John D. McDonald…

"Fallen Mangrove" continues the Jesse McDermitt saga with considerable more action than book 4.
The author continues to develop the series in a manner that makes sense while at the same time creates a very well told story.
Moving on now to the next book so far I' averaging one per day just haven't been able to stop.

I really enjoy the way Wayne writes. His books aren't over the top techie or one man mission impossible super heroes types but they always tell a great story in a very well written way. I'm working my way through the Jesse books now and have enjoyed all six equally well.

I could live with the grammatical errors, they weren't as bad as in some other books I've read. I was a little disappointed in the reunion with his daughter. You would think that a reunion with a child one hasn't seen since the age of f5 months would be a little more dramatic. I would have liked to see at least one area of involvement with the ex wife, after being caught lying all those years. Otherwise, much better than the last one.

Another enjoyable entry in the Jesse McDermitt series. This one had so many bad guys (and bad girls) running around that it got confusing at times. Eventually, it came to a satisfying conclusion and made sense at the end. As usual, there were surprising gains and losses to Jesse's team. We may even see a softening of Jesse? We'll have to see what the next book brings.

All of Wayne Stinnett's 'Fallen' novels are well crafted and entertaining. The characters are interesting and believable. All in all, an excellent read.
The only problem I have is reading them in sequence, because each new novel picks up, or references back to, the previous novel. That can be a real spoiler if you pick one out of sequence.

Very pleased the entire "Fallen" series... if Travis McGee had been a marine, Jesse would be his clone..... each of the books stand alone... but are better read in sequence. .... USMC and military details are spot on and this is from an old "Gator Freighter" sailor who served with Marines and Seals in Westpac...

This is the 4th book I've read in this series (not including the prequel). The author continues to improve his craft, and each book is better than the one before. There is still room for improvement, as the endings don't seem to flow at the same pace as the rest of the stories. Though the book is much more about build up, than actual action, they are still very entertaining and enjoyable books.

Having read his previous four Jesse McDermitt novels, I obviously looked forward to number five. I was not disappointed in the least. The author skillfully inserts a long estranged younger daughter in an interesting plot. After four novels, I had mental images of all the characters. Then the younger daughter appears. Jesse is a bit overwhelmed at first, but she wins back her daddy's heart. As the plot evolves, there is an important information leak. Is she a traitor? No more info from me. Buy the books and read them in sequence. You won't be disappointed!

This whole series has been great and this one is as good as all the rest. If you want to read something set outside the usual thriller big city environments and you want to learn a little about the FL keys, you will love this boom

I love the Jessie McDermitt series . The only thing about this one that was a little off was the fact that with these guy's being DHS that some one could plant a listening device under their nodes. Still a great read even though that stretched it for me.

Another great story and I was happy to read less Marine info. There was even a bit more humor. Glad most of the bad guys were killed and Jesse reunited with his daughter. Easy reading. On to the next book.

I have been reading the whole series of books, I am on the 6th one now. I love his visual style of writing and since I lived in FL and toured the Keys many times it is even more visual for me. I enjoy his descriptions of boating and sailing being an avid sailor at one time.

I love this series, it's well written and almost no misspellings or problems with sentence structure, nothing that pulls me out of the story. It's also just a good enjoyable story about friendship and living in a place that sounds like paradise.

Character build up was outstanding. Relationships believable. I believe the ending needed a little more definition. Overall, I will read the remaining books in the series. I am a retired Master Chief from the submarine service and really enjoyed both of the first two books in the series.

If you like Lee Child's series on Jack Reacher you will like this series on Jesse McDermitt. Wayne Stinnett does a good job of mixing action and romance. I like that Jesse has roots with family and friends and the state of Florida

Continued adventures of Jesse McDermott, ex-marine, and the rest of the crew working undercover for the Department of Homeland Security looking for treasure in the Bahamas. Love this series of books set in the Florida Keys with plenty of action and adventure.

Another great one in this series. Not quite a John D Macdonald but the closest to his type of genre I have read. Jesse is a totally difeerent type of character than Travis McGee but both have their place in this enviroment.

Loved the whole series! Kept my interest and wished there were more to read! Now I am reading the John H. Cunningham series of books which is also similar and very good. Give that one a try. I am on my 4th book in the Cunningham series.

LOVED FALLEN MANGROVE, the bad guys were really bad and the good guys were moral, ethical, really good, good guys. If only life were as clear cut. If you are searching for a fantasy adventure, in a beautiful location, this is the series for you! Thank you Wayne, you did it again!

I have really enjoyed this series. Mr. Stinnett tends to be a little repetitive and description of his travels by boat get a little tedious, however his characters are very interesting and the story lines have been good. I would recommend these books.

The characters have been well developed in all of this series. I do like the fact that the main characters are not “bulletproof” nor without their flaws. The plots are not too far fetched as well.

Outstanding story wound surround specific details of the Florida coast through to the keys. Once hooked on the tales spun so well by the author, one cannot wait to open the next adventure of Jesse and company.

Having read the previous four books in this series I couldn't wait to finally get book five. It didn't disappoint, having been stationed at Key West on a hydrofoil, (USS Hercules PHM-2) and not only sailing all over the Caribbean but exploring a lot of the islands that make up the Florida keys, these books bring back great memories. The action and drama of these men and women who make up the team remind me of some of the great people I served with in the Navy, Coast Guard and Marines.
The plot of this latest book grabs you right from the start from when you set down to read it. It took me less than a day to finish because every time I had a chance I picked it back up to catch up and keep going. The new characters introduced added some great new insight into Jesse's life before he retired and how some of it will begin change now. Thank you Wayne for another great adventure and looking forward to your next installment.

Another great story about adventure, treasure, scumbags and family. Jesse and gang took care of business once again. This story has more than the usual twists and turns, you need to read it carefully to figure out the good guys from the bad guys. Lots of excitement, big guns, new team members and new family members.
I can't wait until the next one.
