It is helping my 7th grader who is not a fan of math, but does like to read. I wish I would of gotten this for 6th grade. It is working well for 7th grade in our school. The chapters are lining up with what they are doing in class, but this is not in the advanced 7th/8th grade math class it is the regular 7th grade math class.

I bought this for my son to learn beyond what he's covering in his elementary instruction. He likes it quite a bit and seems to have picked up quite a few concepts. I think this would be a good resource for children that are about 8-12.

Exactly what we're looking for. Math is so utterly dry and boring and this book makes it fun :) I used to design worksheets like this, to make my kids excited about math, glad to know I don't have to do the work anymore! LOL

I purchased this book for our homeschooling curriculum. We love this book it's so easy to understand. I am using it with my 9 year old we are doing accelerated learning and I am able to explain each concept easily using this book. This is the only math book we are using and in it its truly all theirs is to know to make thru middle school math. I think is based on 6-8 grades. I wish I had this book back when I was in school, I love this book and so does my son. I think is good for everyone not just homeschooling. It's a good help to keep at home to review for homework or test in school. I also think math teachers should use it and explain math in the way it's explained here EASY to comprehend.

This book will be a great resource to use during Math Stations. This is a fabulous book for my 6th and 7th-grade students. In the past I had my 4-6 grade students practice the concepts, skills, and strategies that they are still a little fuzzy with into a marble notebook. The students can use this book to help clear up any misconceptions during their independent Math Stations. Great Find! ;)

I really needed this refresher when I was helping my grandson study and he likes this series of books too! Gives you just what you need, not too much and not too little. Laid out in a kid friendly presentation it's not 'dry' like a text book. My grandson isn't searching all over the internet and he's not toggling between screens. My grandson is easily distracted so using the internet looking for answers can take him in a completely different direction forgetting what he was looking for to begin with! We love our BIG FAT NOTEBOOK and you will too.

I saw this at our local membership warehouse club that starts with a C. They were cheaper there and I fell in love with the whole series! Science, English, World History and US History! I wish my kids were still in middle school so that I would have an excuse to buy them. Yet, I may just buy them for myself :-). They look like they would be a fun supplement for the kids' curriculum in middle school. Very colorful and full of information that is well presented with quizzes and answers at the end.

This book is written in a very clear and concise manner, listing all steps very clearly, while giving you vocabulary, formulas, varying examples, and a quiz at the end of very chapter, with the answers on the next page to check if you have understood the chapter, very helpful in terms of reverse engineering the answer if you happened to get it wrong. The Table of Contents is detailed so while there is no index, it never took more than a few moments to find what we needed. It covers everything for Middle School common core standards. I like that it's not overly repetitive, it's not a "drill" book, it covers the concepts well, including examples, and then lets you check your knowledge.

Don't look at this series as an "everything you need to know" because it's literally notes. I guess thats my fault for not understanding, but it doesn't teach anything, rather goes over everything briefly in a paragraph and that's it.... difficult for my step daughter to understand some things when she hasn't learned about them yet....buy more to go with this is basically the jist of what I'm trying to say if you homeschool! Great book for notes!! Just not teaching!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! I teach 6th and 7th grade STEM Math and my son is in 8th grade STEM Math at the school I teach. We not only teach CCM, but also integrate science, technology, and engineering into our daily math lessons. This book assists in providing students with quick but comprehendable notes and example problems to complete with guided practice and independent practice. This is not a book to be used by itself but as a reference for students in the classroom or at home and as supplemental for the teacher.

This is a series of book that cover key facts in a subject but in a much more easy-to-accessible way for students. There's no dense content, but instead full of figures, graphs, different fonts and colors. Your brain will be constantly stimulated and may be more excited to pick up few more things.

We purchased this from a local retailer and find that our child refers to it daily; sometimes to refresh his memory on a specific set of problems / sometimes just for fun.
The layout, colors, illustrations, and content are all great. I've recommended it to friends as we really feel this was money well spent!

There are not enough examples in the book to. You might as well just ask your math teacher if you could borrow a book over the summer because everything you need to Ace math and one big notebook is useless.

This could possibly be the most comprehensive math book of this size that I have ever seen. I have been using this book as a teaching tool and it has been very well received by my middle school students. It is best used in conjunction with workbooks.

I was a big fan of the Brain Quest books but they ran out at grade six. Since this book claims to be by some of the same people I was expecting it to be similar however there are almost no places in the book working actually practice and there are very few examples.

Wow! I am a huge fan of this book based on my daughter's response. My daughter loves school and does extremely well...in everything except math. She still makes high B's to low A's in math, but she hates the subject and groans (loudly) whenever the subject comes up. I bought this for her, half expecting her to want to throw it at me and dreading the fight that I knew was coming to make her read it. To my complete surprise, she loves it! She was walking around the house reading it...a math book...I was so stunned that I had to look closer at it to be sure it wasn't secretly a joke book pretending to be a math book. She tells me that it makes more sense to her than anything she has heard in school and claims that it is making a lot of the topics she's covered "click." It's too early to tell how it will impact her grades, but I'm a fan if for no other reason that she showed legitimate interest in the book and learning more math. I've already ordered the rest of the series, including history and English. I'm anxious to see if her reaction is as good with those.

I have a bachelors degree and struggled with math all my life. This book was straight to the point in simple, everyday language. After reading a few chapters then going online to find free worksheets to practice concepts, I was finally able to understand, remember things and successful solve problems. It really helped on brushing up on the basics while studying for the GRE, along with other GRE supplements. The Kaplan GRE book’s attempt to brush up on basic concepts was too dense for me. It was stressing me out. Glad I purchased this at Walmart. I plan on purchasing another one for my little cousins.

My son hates math. We are homeschooling now and I thought this looked like a visually appealing presentation with succinct info.
The first day he flipped through it all and said OMG I will never get through this. I told him to close the book and walk away. Then reminded him that we eat elephants only one nibble at a time. Next time, just nibble. Today he read the first section, then taught it to me... he was all smiles. When the student becomes the teacher, learning is complete. What joy!
Tonight he burst from his room announcing he had read three more sections and exclaimed "I freaking love these books, (also bought science) every kid should have these!"
Wow, wow, wow - wonderful. Great job on these books and thank you!!

I was initially excited to get this book. I teach middle school math. Our district math has gone digital, so we stopped doing notes and interactive notebooks. Instead I post them through Google Classroom. I wanted to use this book, and I can use some of the concepts. Sadly it has not been updated for the common core standards, so some of the notes are not helpful. Great idea to get a middle school math teacher to help add the material that matches the standard. The book would sell like crazy if you did.

If I had to identify a weakness I'd say that while it simplifies and summarizes well, it is limited in the number of exercises that it provides a student, which would be helpful in cementing the new techniques and tools that each chapter offers. There is a "test" for each chapter, but at 10 questions this is minimal. I believe that this was likely an intentional choice on the part of the author, which yielded the benefits of delivering a book that is less than 1/2 the size and thus less intimidating (and more portable I suppose). I'm on the hunt for a supplementary book of - you guessed it - exercises that he can use for this purpose, and until I find such a beast I'll just help with examples of my own design.
Anyway, the book is really outstanding and is the best I've found from the 6 or so I purchased for my 2 kids. Happy learning!
