Great insight into John, the one whom Jesus loved, as he calls himself, the author of Revelation. You see he and the others as they walk beside Jesus, growing in their faith in Him. Jesus revealed as they see Him.

Beth Moore is an incredible author, but this book is different, this book takes you to the heart of Jesus through the story of John! I was so encouraged and blessed by the book! A great read for anyone!

John has fascination to all who study Christ and His followers. There was a special bond between John and Jesus. John 's unfailing love, his sneaking through the cracks. His behind the enemy lines work to promote the Gospel of Jesus.

I wanted a book on the life of St. John the apostle. I read the reviews and parts of the books listed and picked this on for myself. My sister saw it and wanted one so I gave it to her. I will order one for me as soon as I am done reviewing it.

Am I thew only one who resents having to type x number of characters and I have to Headline my review. Why does the store force their customers to serve them???

This is the trade book going along with Beloved Disciple, the Beth Moore study of the same name. It doesn't have the blanks to fill in, so is good for a person who wants to read it and is not planning on doing the study with DVD and workbook, but wants to learn the content.

The book "The Beloved Disciple" was delivered in better condition than was stated in the description provided by the seller. It was also delivered in the time specified. I was very pleased with the purchase.

If you read the other reviews, you'll notice they are brief and they don't have much depth to them. The book itself, while not brief, also does not have much depth to it.

One thing I do like about this work is that she definitely comes down on the side of the Beloved Disciple being John, rather than some otherwise unknown disciple as many NT scholars seem to think. This allows her to add some depth to his character and what was behind his writing.

It becomes something of a liability for Ms. Moore, however, as she spends almost half of the book talking about the Life of Jesus before she actually gets into John's Gospel. That may be okay for some people, but you just need to understand that this is not a serious commentary on the Gospel itself.

She seems to be writing in a daily journal and sharing her thoughts with the reader. Again, that's fine if it's what you're looking for. But frankly I don't care if she's having a bad day when she's writing a particular passage or not, and I don't care if she's so excited about what she's writing that she is standing up while she's typing.

And I'm really not interested in her life or her experiences or the struggles she has had to endure personally. I just wanted some insight into John's Gospel, and there wasn't nearly enough of that in this book.

If you want something that's touchy-feely, that makes you feel like you're spending time with an imaginary friend over a cup of chamomile tea, then this book may be for you. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed.

I have no interest in reading a book that only tickles your ears. Open that Bible yourself and read it. Don't be afraid to put the work in understanding it instead of listening to people tickle your ears.

Most commentaries are useful tools, but they read just like comemntaries and are not necessarily meant to be read cover to cover. Beth Moore's deep study of the life of John isn't that way. Moore plunges into the heart of John' character, offering personal insights and practical tips on applying the lessons learned from this beloved disiciple.

This is the first Beth Moore book I have read and I was very happy with it. Many spiritual books are hard to read and take a great deal of discipline. Moore's frequent asides will make this spiritual book a more fascianting read.

She is also quick to point out where she is offering an opinion on a part of John's life that is not made clear by the text. She has done her homework in preparing for this book, having sought hte best resources to help fill in the blanks.

The strongest parts of The Beloved Disciple are Beth's observations on John's relationship with Jesus and with the other disciples. I was especially intrigued by her analysis of John's long life and how it may have caused him to wonder why God did not set him aside for martyrdom. Also, her research on Patmos made me realize he didn't just sit at a nice desk and write away. The exile was more like a labor camp.

The weakest point of the book is her coverage of Revelation. She admits to looking at the book only in terms of how it affects John's life. I would have liked to see her take on the events to take place in the end times.

By and large, however, this is a good book that brings fresh pracitcal and historical insights into the character of the Apostle whom Jesus loved.

This is the first Beth Moore book I have read and it was all expected it to be. John's story is told from his fishing days on the sea of Galilee to his vision/Revelation on the Island of Patmos. The softness and caring for both John and the reader has the feel of being written by a woman. The book is sweet, easy to read, and rich in The Word. "The Beloved Disciple" reads like a novel. It is a perfect gift for mom.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. It gave me a whole new perspective on the disciples and their human nature. I think it is a worthwhile book to read. It reminds me again that out response to God's love is to love others

I really enjoyed discovering the apostle John as I journeyed with Beth Moore throughout John's life. Beth has a way of making the past come alive. She is so knowledgeable of scripture and the ancient traditions of the Jewish faith as well as the time of Christ and she so beautifully brings it all together in a way that I never conceived. She adds a new dimension to my bible reading as well as my relationship with The Lord.

This is the first book I have read by Beth Moore and I was impressed. After 13+ years as a Christian and an avid reader, this book contains some refreshing insights to familiar passages of scripture. In this book you will get to know the apostle John through the gospels, as well as, his writings (1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Revelations). Moore's research and multiple scripture references encouraged my faith. Moore has a tendency to be a bit wordy and emotional in her writing, however, this conveyed to me her whole-hearted love for God.

I read this book at a time that I was living
many of the examples in it for myself.
We think of the apostles as "supermen",
but they had their own "issues" as we do.
This book shows the "Heart of Jesus", by
helping you address your own issues as you
identify with John, the beloved disciple.
The part that I liked the best was the
part about the Vision of the book of Revelation
where John recorded seeing the "Tribulation Saints".
They were singing a song that only they could learn.
Not even john could know the song. So it is with
us today. Sometimes when we go through our own trials,
the Lord will give us our own song. Amazing Incite.
Great Book !

Lots of knowledge and thought about John, the disciple of Jesus, and Jesus. Not about the books of John, but more of the personality of John (and Jesus). One thing I learned, how young John was when called to be a disciple.

Beth took me on a journey that I totally enjoyed. It is the first book that I have read where the author is speaking directly to me. It is not words on a page but someone speaking to me directly. Well Done.
