I love this book it has all different shades of black from yellow to dark skin. I'm dark my daughter is like carmel colored and black girls need to hearOFTEN that they are something, they are pretty and so is everyone else in their own way but seeing so many blonde girls on tv and on cartoons we need a good story about the beauty of us

I bought this book for my great niece for Christmas. I loved this book because it reminds me of her; beautiful, carefree and friendly! This is a book all little girls can enjoy, no matter what race or nationality, but is especially wonderful for all little black girls.

This is one that I will treasure and pass onto my daughter's daughter(s), when the time comes. This book is full of positive imagery, great messages about self confidence and building friendships and embracing your true beauty and identity. Thank you Ms. Bynum!

Oh this is the cutest book ever! It's pages are filled with beautiful illustrations, pictures that lil colored girls can easily relate to. Colored or Black families have many different shades of family members and this book helps all girls of color realize their unique beauty. Love it! Oh, did I say I love it?

This book is wonderful. It is great for my daughter to celebrate how she looks and that it is okay that she is half black and different than her mama. It is so nice that Madame Alexander made a doll of the book and I was able to get that also. I can't wait to give it to my daughter.... Again, to celebrate her!

I bought this book for my younger sister (She's 5) and she absolutely loves it! I really want to empower her about being a black girl and this book was the perfect tool! I truly hope. Ms. Bynum continues this series and uses the same characters. We really need something to show our little black girls how amazing and beautiful they are and this was that. This is truly an amazing book and I recommend any and everyone to buy it.

my daughter is let old enough yet she's only 2 months lol however she loves when I read this to her. The illustration is beautiful. Book describes the main character and her friends and their shades of brown skin and different hair textures and being happy in their own skin. Doesn't go into detail about the definition of pretty but definitely great for the age group it specifies as something young girls can read to gain confidence in how God created them that their unique in their own way ☺️

I have mixed feelings about this book, hence the 3 stars.
While the illustrations are delightful, the writing leaves me frustrated.
It's a rhyming book that misses the mark.
Reading it aloud to my granddaughter felt like a chore.

As a brother who grew up with four beautiful sisters of various shades, from dark chocolate to light, I can tell you first-hand how important it is to recognize and affirm the "pretty" in all the shades, shapes and sizes our girls may come in. I have already begun to deliver copies of this wonderfully relevant, needed and entertaining book to my sisters who have daughters, friends with daughters, and whomever else I imagine can benefit.

It is literally that good! This book needs to be in the home of every little or big girl who would like to be reminded of just how "pretty" she naturally is!

Thank you Betty K. Bynum, Claire Armstrong Parod, and everyone involved in bringing the groundbreaking, transformational and healing book to fruition. I commend you all and look forward to future books and items from the I'm a Girl! Collection. I will make sure to share those too!

I bought this book for my 6 year old daughter and wanted to return it rather than read it to her. The illustrations as wonderful, the poetry is forced, the analogies are only understood by adults, the entire book awkwardly misses the point....get it at the library if you are curious....

Sadly the books about boys of color area labeled as "brilliant" while the girls in this series are "pretty" or "lovely". As a librarian and mother, I am very disappointed. Why promote boys as brilliant and smart, but the girl's redeeming quality is based on physical appearance due to genes that she has no control over?

I just got this book a few days ago and I'm contemplating sending it back. It's reads very clunky (for lack of a better word), it does not flow well and basically just focuses on being pretty. They threw good manners in there I guess to make it not all about being pretty.
The illustrations are beautiful.
I just don't care for the writing. And I really wanted to like it because I am raising a brown skinned little girl.

I'm a Pretty Little Black Girl! is an adorable book that will put a sparkle in a little girl's day. Through Mia, we see that "pretty" is not about looks, but in the delight we share in our friends. Terrific illustrations and joyous story!

I purchased this book as a starter for my girls club, Ocala's Pretty Brown Girl Club. I can't express how impressed I am with the book. My baby girl (7 yrs old) has read it 3 times in advance of our book review on May 3rd. It truly has opened her eyes to just how beautiful she (Sweet Dark Chocolate Cream) and all of the other like pretty black girls are. It's a must have!

I'M A PRETTY LITTLE BLACK GIRL! is just like Chris Rock says, "It's a book we've been waiting for!". The book has a pink glitter cover title that sparkles and is radiant. And the book has beautiful illustrations reflecting such pretty little black girls -- even grown women will love it, and the little girls will adore seeing a book created just for them. This is a terrifically perfect book!

This book celebrates childhood innocence and gives girls a reason to look in the mirror and like who they are...just because. The author uses a simple and powerful message paired with beautiful illustrations to create a book that every girl and woman will enjoy for generations to come. I can't wait to purchase the rest of the series for my girls. This book will make a great gift for anyone.

This book was pushed on me by a library employee. From the beginning, I didn't like the title. Why not just title it: I'm a pretty little girl? It was so awful that I changed the words while reading it to my three year old ( saying that the girls loved to read and go to school, etc.). This is NOT appropriate for a three year old by the way. This book drones on about skin color instead of attention to studying and paying attention in school....... AWFUL. Not what I want to put in my toddler's head...
