The characters are well defined and the storyline flows nicely. The action is entertaining and plausible. The setting of future technology is nicely balanced with just enough advances but no magic carpets

If like a great story with unanticipated twists look no further. If you have military experience and like realism about characters and their actions this story really works. Can't wait for the sequel.
Read it start to finish without putting it down or even considering it.

Absolutely a Excellent read! This is my first time reading Ken's work and I found it well organized, thought provoking and it has great characters who are well developed and sometimes quite surprising. There wasn't anything about this story that I didn't like and I can't wait to read more of this story.

I started reading this book and thought to myself oh no, not another spy thriller. Then bam it turns into a sci fi western. Just no horses, and the indians are aliens. Looking forward to the next one.

Well, another author that I will end up hating because he can't write as fast as I read! :)
Thoroughly enjoyable. One of those that teaches you what "I couldn't put it down" means, Looking forward to the next installation.
Update - read D Duffy's review. I agree the colonists seem rather unprepared - but then I look at America's recent governmental choices and realize that any project set up by the government could result in this sort of a unprepared project.

Easy read. The storyline flows smoothly and a definite page turner. One 9f the few books I've read lately that made me wonder "What is going to happen next" as I was going through my daily routine. I'm glad I found a new series to read and am looking forward to diving into book 2.

Mr Lozito does excellent job story telling, character development and survival plot in a fast paced book. Different and compelling story about the human side of a military man on an unplanned mission...more please!

This is a really solid sci-fi book with great world building and a solid hero. I honestly didn’t think I was going to like this book, but I was so wrong! Action packed and enjoyed the use of technology throughout the story. Already started reading the next book in the series, so can’t wait to see how the story continues.

Excellent! Couldn't put it down and read far into the night. What I liked is it's very plausible, as in taking hundreds of years to travel to a new planet, rather than having the implausible warp drive, much as we love Star Trek.

I liked the sci fi concept, I thought the hero was pretty good without being superman ! I look forward to reading further adventures ! I thought that the Governor of the new colony should have had real security (military not civilian police) !

The story of the syndicate got cut and from then it went in another direction so there was no resolution to it. I felt that part was incomplete and I from how the story ended I don't want another zombie type scenario, there's no point to that type of storyline..
I will read the next book and if turns into a zombie outline..then I'm done..I won't be reading the next one

This an excellent book...I was reminded of Robert A. Heinlein's book "Tunnel in The Sky" and Andre Norton's "Star Born". The ryklars remind me a lot of the Stobor in tunnel in the sky and the alien ruins in Star Born...military action mixed with exploring a new world...cannot wait for the next book in the series.

If you enjoy space sagas in general, you'll enjoy this. Genesis pretty much introduces the characters and sets the premise for the next novels. However, it does so in a very enjoyable way that holds up as a stand alone book.

I have read the first three books of First Colony and enjoyed the series. I only hope that I do not have long to wait for the next Book. I find them hard to put down once I have one in my hand.
Keep on with the good work.

This was an enjoyable book. In the past few days I’ve tried reading several books, they bored me; this book kept my interest and I read it essentially nonstop. Plenty of action and it moved a a good pace. I am about to order the next in the series.
