You've Got to Get Out of the Boat Participant's Guide with DVD

I read the book about 6 years ago when contemplating a career change. The biblical principles brought to light in the book were a huge encouragement to me then, and are as I am now just finished reading it again. I'm again in the midst of, not only a career change, but seeking to just be more obedient to The Lord in all areas of my life. This book I would highly recommend for those who, like me, tend sometimes to get discouraged, fear failure, and need encouragement to move forward. Mr. Ortberg's sense of humor, coupled with sound biblical principles, have helped me to feel better about stepping out on faith. He helps you to see that you are not in a "boat" by yourself. You're not the only one who had had reservations about changes or new directions in life. I wholeheartedly give this book a 5-star rating!

I live life large. This books help remove the safety net. Thanks to John Ortberg I am going to move forward on so many large and challenging, long awaited, scary things, that I am chalenged by God to do.

John Ortberg has the gift of teaching. The book has many practical examples that makes the topic fun and the book easy to read. Thank God, he does not take the deep theological approach, which becomes key when you talk to human beings other than high profile theology savvy intellectuals. He certainly reaches to the audience with a clear message. If you want to understand what people mean when they say "we have to connect with God", or if you are one of those who are thinking about what you will eat during Super Bowl afternoon while in the middle of mass, this is the book for you. Or, if you teach Sunday school or minister, this book is very helpful. I fully recommend it!

This book will speak to your heart, no matter what stage of life, and no matter what situation you're encountering, no matter what decisions you are facing, little ones or major ones.
It's for everyone. That is what makes this book such a keeper. It's a book that you would want to read again and again especially if you need courage to get out of the boat. It's written in such a way that leaves room for God to speak to your heart in His own way. Buy several cuz after reading it, you'll want others to read it also.

This book will challenge you to do the things you wanted to accomplish anyway. It makes you look inside to see things around you in a new way. It helps see ways that you can, and should, make a difference.

This is a very thought provoking read. I recommend it to anyone who feels the need to know God and want he wants for your life. All you have to do is be ready to take that leap of faith and get out of the boat.

Mr. Ortberg's style is totally readable, laced with good humor, and right on the practical philosophical money. His exploration of the many facets of this short episode is certain to light up some corners of your daily life that you have deliberately hurried past to avoid their importance. Open this door to the amplification of your talents and skills that activating your spiritual life will certainly bring.

Everyone needs to read this book! If you have any wonders about what to do next in your life, this book helps you see that you have to take a step out in faith to walk on the water!This would be a great graduation gift or just a great pick me up for someone who is "drifting" and not sure where to go next.

I have read this book tiwce and gained new insights both times. I read many books in a year, most of which I resell when finished. Not this book. I plan to keep it on my book shelf and read again and again. I love the inspiratiobnal quotes to start each chapter. John illustrates his points with interesting and funny stories. His message of finding God's purpose for your life and finding the courage to folllow God's plan for your life are timeless. I found this book helpful on my own journey.
