Laney Monroe has finally moved out her parent’s house at the age of 25. Only it wasn’t that simple you see because Laney’s life has turned out not at all like she planned. For instance she did not plan on getting pregnant so soon or being a single mom. She also did not plan on working for a job that she finds boring or allowing her brother Gavin to move in with her. Laney buys a cute little house that she fell in love with but it has several things that need fixed. She figures that since her brother lives with her he will be able to help around the house with the things that need fixed. He also helps out with her son Rocco.

Gavin decides that it is time to find a job so he applies for a construction job. He has no idea what he is because he has no work experience but the new boss in charge Nate gives him a chance. When Laney meets Nate for the first time there is defiantly a spark even though their first encounter was not an idea meeting.

Nate is really attracted to Laney and wants to apologize for the way he spoke to her when he met her. He has another reason for apologizing; he would also like to get to know her better. Nate starts by offering to help fix a few things that he has noticed broken around her house; for starters the door knob that just fell off into his hand.

This was a fun read by Sylvie that has some laugh out loud moments.

Good gosh! I just started chapter six and they STILL haven't met. I absolutely hate when an author does this. The intro drags out for so long that the reader loses i detest in the story. At this point, I don't really know if I want to dive back in or give up. I'm leaning towards giving up. The story sounded like it could have been good, though. Maybe I will try again down the road when I don't mind such a tedious beginning.

The Fix is the first book in the Carolina Connections Series and Sylvie Stewart’s debut book and she has done a great job writing it. Laney Monroe became pregnant from a one night stand before she even finished college obviously this was not the plan. After living with her parents for almost 6 years and with their help she is able to buy her own place and moves into it with her son Rocco and her brother Gavin. After years of not working Gavin finally gets a job in construction and this is where Laney meets Gavin’s hot boss Nate Murphy and there is an instant connection between the two. Nate is back to help with the family business because his father had a heart attack, he always planned on coming back it just happened sooner than he thought it would and now he has met Laney he is glad to be back, he just needs to convince Laney to go out with him!
I really enjoyed this story, it was an easy, funny, romantic read with not too much drama. I loved all the characters in the book and the more I read the more I fell in love with them. I loved the way Sylvie wrote the connection between Laney and Nate it just seemed real and not over the top and I found this refreshing. I have no problems whatsoever in recommending this book especially if you love a happily ever after stories.

Author is a good writer. But not a great storyteller. Two normal mature adults find each other attractive and have a completely mundane courtship with tepid chemistry. No drama, conflict, or obstacles. I think they were both more attracted to the house and treehouse than each other.

I finished it but would not read another from this author: that's a two star review.

I must thank Sylvie Stewart for kindly sending me a copy of the fix in exchange for an honest review
Love love love it!!! This is a fantastic read with plenty of humor and romance.
Laney has been a single mum since her son was born and she hasn’t been interested in dating, her main concern is moving into her own place and providing for her son. Things change when she meets Nate, after he offers to help fix her house up she trys to keep him at arms length but he’s not giving up and she can’t deny the way he makes her feel. Can Laney bring herself to trust Nate with her heart?
Nate is back in town to help with his father’s company but he’s not sure he’s here to stay long term all that changes when he sets eyes on Laney. Laney is sarcastic and fiery and Nate can’t keep away from her but he just needs to convince her to take a chance.
The fix is a definite must read and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

The other reviews led me to believe this book would be better. The 2 main characters didn’t even meet until 22% into the book. Now don’t get me wrong there were some funny laugh out loud parts but I just wasn’t impressed with the story altogether.

This story is well written with well fleshed out characters, believable conversations and real emotions. This story has a fun air to it with lots of sarcasm and adult sibling squabbling. I really enjoyed the smart-mouth banter. There was also quite a bit of bad language and steamy sexual situations. For that, I would give this book an R rating. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to share my honest review.

This book was absolutely adorable! I loved every minute of it. I kept sending my sister screenshots of great parts, so of course she now owns it. I can’t wait for her to read it so we can gab. I loved all the characters, from Nate to Rocco and all in between. Just found out at the end there is a second book!! Definitely getting it.

Loved the way this was written!! Great humor. Great characters. Can't wait for the next in the series. This was a really cute story how Nate and Laney met. And throw her son and her brother in the mix and it made for a darling story.

This is a quick, sweet, funny read. I normally don't read romances with single parents, but this one was great and was well balanced. Loved the supporting characters and looking forward to reading the remaining in the series.

Strike One: Language. No F-bombs, just crude language.
Strike Two: Boring characters
Strike Three: The novel took too long to develop the plot.

Love this! The characters are so believable and great. I didn't want it to end! Someone please tell me Nate and Laney get married and have babies, cause yeah I'm so hoping for that future. And Rocco reminded me so much of my nephews. Such a well written kid!

This may have been quite a good story. What ruined it for me was all the vulgar crudity, sexual innuendo, swearing and blasphemy. Don’t know what was worse the bad language or the vulgar vulgar crudeness. Yuk. What a pity.

I enjoyed this one! The story could have been improved if she would have extended the background on both of main characters. Loved the inner dialogue - I'm a sucker for that - and witty banter. It was a quick read and very enjoyable. Reading The Game next!

Cute story. The author is hard to follow sometimes. I feel like she would change the subject suddenly or jump forward in time at weird spots but overall cute story. Just downloaded second in this series.

A 5 star read for The Fix, A Carolina Connections Novel - Book 1 by Sylvia Stewart. This was a new author to me and I absolutely loved it and can not wait for more. This book was funny and cute and romantic all wrapped into one great read.
Nate Murphy had to move back home from Texas, to help with the family construction business, after his dad has a heart attack. He is used to working with his hands so when he has to do the more inside, administrative jobs, he is not too happy.
Laney Monroe is a single mom of a 5 year old who is now living in her own house with her son and her brother. After her parents moved to Virginia, she had to pull up her big girl pants and be an adult. Her house is nothing special, but it is hers. Sure she is struggling a little bit what single mom isn't. Rocco isn't socializing at day care, her house can use some updates and repairs and her brother is finally starting a job.
When a neighbor knocks on her door one night, things could possibly be starting to look up for her. Her brother is now working in construction, and the company he works for just happens to be working at the end of her street. When her neighbor tries finding out what is being built, the company isn't very forthcoming with information. One morning, they decide to take a walk to the site and speak to the foreman. When Nate and his workers are approached by neighbors, he is bombarded with questions and he turns around and doesn't give the kindest response. Laney loses it and goes off in him. He needs to get to know her better. When he finds out that she is the New kids sister, that makes it even easier and better.
This book had me laughing very frequently. When you have a 5 year old and a brother that acts like a 5 year old sometimes, you never know what you will get. This book had mostly everything that I look for in a good read. It had laughs, romance and some really hot sex. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did and I look forward to reading more by this author.

The Fix (Carolina Connections) by Sylvie Stewart is the author’s debut romance novel that I gave 4 out of 5 stars. This was such a “lol” novel, very witty and humorous for a romance-it was a great change of pace from all the dramatic romance novels! Thank God I was reading alone, because I kept giggling aloud throughout the book. This book is written in first person alternating POVs by the two main characters: Laney and Nate.

Laney has never taken the easy paths in life, and has a humorous often sarcastic approach to everything. She is 25 years old, a single mother, and making it work on her own. She doesn’t need a man in her life-well except for her goofy fun-loving brother, Gavin. He helps out with her adorable little boy, Rocco. It’s the least he can do considering he’s mooching off her, living with his sister with zero initiative to find a job. She got pregnant while still in college, successfully graduated, landed a job, and moved out from parent’s house. She is feisty and determined to succeed in life unlike her carefree brother. Gavin, however, finally gets a job working construction with more benefits than just pay. His boss, Nate, is gorgeous. A chance encounter between Laney and Nate leads to instant sparks! Chemistry aside, they have differing views on the new construction taking place in Laney’s neighborhood. Unable to deny their chemistry they begin to spend time together. Family is everything to Nate, and he adores her little boy. But Laney doesn’t want to depend on anyone, and isn’t sure she believes in true love. Will she take a risk on love with Nate?

This was such a great easy read. Laney is super genuine, and self-depreciating. She is hilarious, and I found myself laughing quite a bit while reading. Such witty banter, and well developed characters. Can’t wait to read more in the Carolina Connections world!

The Fix is book one of The Carolina Connections Series written by Sylvie Stewart. This is Laceys story and it’s a pretty funny one at that. At first she comes off as shy, not quite sure of herself, lacking in confidence almost, until she meets Nate. One encounter with him and she is quick with the sarcastic witty remarks and she is 100% confident in her actions and wording, she is also funny.
The rest of the character in the book are equally funny and sarcastic, there’s Mark who witnesses the first encounter between Lacey and Nate. Along with Gavin, her younger brother who happens to work for Nate, and live with Lacey, then there’s sweet Rocco who for a 5 yr old has some pretty funny moments of his own, and then there’s Fiona, Laceys best friend.
Lacey, Rocco and Gavin are on their own, after their parents move to Virginia. It will be Laceys first time being a single parent since Rocco was born thanks to her parents support, but luckily she has another great support system, Gavin and Fiona. After an encounter with hot, muscular foreman Nate though has Lacey been missing out on life, by trying to be a great mom and responsible did she put all her needs and wants on the back burner…including dating.. so she could always be there for Rocco.
The story line is easy to follow and pretty laid back, there are some steamy make outs but nothing too graphic or vulgar. I look forward to reading book two.

The Fix is the first book in the Carolina Connections series and the first published for Ms. Stewart. I enjoyed the story a lot, looking forward to getting the opportunity to read the next book in the series.

Laney Monroe is a twenty-five-year-old single Mother to Rocco, the stereotypical five-year-old boy. She just purchased her house after living with her parents and younger brother Gavin after she had Rocco and finished school. Gavin is living with them since their parents moved out of state and he didn’t want to continue living in their basement but hasn’t really done anything with his life or made himself a productive member of society aside from being the manly figure for Rocco.

Nate Murphy comes home to run the family construction business after his father has a heart attack. He wasn’t ready to leave Austin (but who would be) to come back to North Carolina. He has no interest in the business end of the company, he just wants to get his hands dirty and do what he loves.

Gavin starts working for Nate and one evening Gavin is talking about some of the possible projects they are considering having him work on when he mentions the construction right at the end of their street. Laney is not excited about this since one of the reasons she picked this neighborhood was how save and family friendly it is. She goes down to the site to talk to the head of the project about it and the possible businesses that may be renting space and she meets Nate who is a complete jerk to her and her friend.

This is probably the first time I have laughed during an intimate moment and was totally okay with that. I really enjoyed watching the relationship grow and how it always included Rocco, even if it was someone watching him so Laney and Nate could spend time alone. If you are looking for a light hearted, funny happy ending I would suggest you give this one a try.

The Fix: A Carolina Connections Book 1 by Sylvie Stewart – 5 stars

This is the first book that I’ve read by Sylvie Stewart (of course it’s also the first book she wrote) and I’m oh so glad I read it. Let’s start with the chapter titles. Chapter 1. “Pants? Who Needs Pants?” Shut the front door, how can this book be anything but funny Oh Chapter 6 “Dear Superman: Your Brother’s a Dick” he he he.

Fix (fiks) noun – informal. A position from which it is difficult to escape; a predicament

When we first meet Laney Monroe, she is at a point in her life where it’s time to put her “big girl pants” on. She is a single mom to Rocco and her family has been an incredible support system for her. Laney buys a house and her little brother moves in because the house had a few drawbacks “but all of that could be fixed with time and a little help from my idiot younger brother”. Oh dear, we all know how that’s going to go – don’t we.

Nate Murphy is a guy who is in the family business of construction. “Construction is tough. There’s a reason that most movie scenes involving construction sites occur during the smoke breaks or lunch breaks.” He is a family guys because it all comes down to one thing – family. And worse yet, f******g Irish family.

I loved this book. It is funny and romantic and sexy and funny and I could totally do a review just on the chapter headings because Scarlett O’Hara really DID have an excellent point. This is a series I would recommend to friends so we can review it after everyone is done just to relive

I give “The Fix” by Sylvie Stewart five big funny, sexy stars.
Sylvie Stewart's book, “The Fix” is an amazingly funny romp into love, lust and the life of single mom, Laney Monroe. Laney, her son Rocco and her brother Gavin/are all trying to adjust to life together in a fixer-upper of a house. Well, it’s new to them. Mom and Dad recently retired to Arizona, finally, leaving Laney and her brother to look after Rocco. Yea for independence. Except, Laney’s brother, Gavin, really isn’t feeling the pull of independence, yet. His only dream has been shot down and he’s sort of drifting.
And, Laney’s five year old son isn’t adjusting just the way he should. At least that’s what his daycare teachers tell her. Laney is afraid she isn’t doing the “mom” thing right. Then she meets Nate.
The really nice thing about this book is that it is a really nice book. It's all about falling in love, and growing up, and just coping with life. The characters are real people with real problems and real feelings. This is a really cute, fun, romp of a story that doesn’t demand a lot of thought and doesn’t create a lot of angst. The characters are written in first character and are real enough to keep you turning pages to find out what happens next. I would definitely recommend this book and happily look forward to the next one by Sylvie Stewart. They’re kind of like potato chips. One just isn’t enough.

The Fix is about single mom Laney and builder Nate. Laney and her five year old son, Rocco finally live on their own after living with her parents since the birth of Rocco. Her brother Gavin, lives with her, and is a big help in helping out with Rocco. Nate moved back home to help with the family business after is father had a heart attack and needed surgery.

Laney’s life did not take the path she imagined for herself, but she was blessed with her son Rocco. He is her world. Gavin has been there for Laney now that they are on their own. Thanks to Gavin finally getting a job with a construction firm, Nate came into her life. They definitely did not hit it off at first, Nate was quite rude. Nate and Laney both find each other attractive but will circumstances allow them to find the chemistry needed to be in a romantic relationship? Or will Laney let the fear she has of being in a relationship get the best of her? Will Nate and Laney be able to find their way together with all that stands in their way?

Sylvie Stewart does a wonderful job with The Fix, you do not want to put it down, and do not want it to end. You are cheering for Laney and Nate throughout the whole book. Ms. Stewart showed how hard it is to have a relationship and be a single parent, and how important it is the child comes first. The relationship between Laney and Nate felt very real. To me, it was important to describe the relationship between Rocco and Nate too, and how he cared about him. This is the the first book in the Carolina Connections series, I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Sylvie Stewart.
