This was good, but truly not what I was expecting. I sort of thought that I was reading a modern version of Little Women. This is a National Book Award winner. It is probably age appropriate. I am glad that I spent the time with it, but I am also glad to finish it and move on.

Ms. Birdsall obviously loved the same books I did when she was growing up. If you love the books of E. Nesbit and Elizabeth Enright, Jeanne Birdsall is writing for you. I hope she gives us many more adventures of the Penderwicks.

We first listened to this book on CD while driving. We all (Mom, Dad, 2 girls aged 10 and 8) enjoyed the story. My 10 and 8 year old daughters particularly liked the narrator's style. They insisted I also buy the book so they could read along; I didn't object--anything to promote reading! We have listened/read the story several times since the first, and my girls consider it their favorite book (Quote: "It's funny and exciting and I want to read it over and over!"). It is a delightful summer story.

This book is my most favorite. The beginning was a little slow but for the most part, I really enjoyed it. I would recommend this book if your looking for a good read with your young child. The imagination is used throughout the book and your child will have tons of fun with it.

My grandaughters picked this book to read, as we have are own little "book club". What a fun story, I enjoyed this just as much as they did. Great book about positive attitudes. Read the second in the series also.

This book deserves all the awards it's gotten. The characterization is good, the setting is interesting, and the plot is a believable one. A very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. I look for more books about the entertaining Penderwick sisters.

Our whole family (with children ages 2 -12) LOVED this story! It is funny. It is sweet. It is true to the best and some of the oddities of human behavior and family life. I wish there were more "modern" wholesome family stories like this one!
