I really enjoyed this book. It made me understand myself more, my children, and humans in general. This book is an answered prayer for me. It has changed my relationship with my children in a phenomenal way.

Great book on parenting that shows that the Gospel changes everything - especially parenting. Never read a book that had linked the Gospel so amazingly as Paul did. Great stuff - a must read for parents from every stage.

Seriously. This book gave me so much conviction yet so much freedom. What a perspective shift. I so much appreciated being reminded at the end of each chapter that when we recognize that we are more LIKE our children than unlike them, we extended grace easier. Really hit the grand slam in the intro- that our children are not our own and we are called to be ambassadors. Wonderful truth. Great biblical truth, not watered down, not heavy.. just plain, simple, big, truth. Each chapter points out a biblical principle our children need- but that we need it too. Wonderfully encouraging while being challenging and exposing to my current perspective.

It gave to me so timely necessary advice on parenting as I am parenting a 17-months-old boy. Through this book, I realized how God works with us and embraces us with His mighty power when we are working as His ambassador.

Incredible book on parenting. It gets right to the core of the issue, which is not as much the kids as it is us. The closer our relationship is with God, the more like Jesus we are and become, the better example our kids have to pattern their lives after. The stories and parralells used in this book are up to date, which makes the application easier.

This book has challenged me in so many ways, even though I only have one little guy a year old. What I have loved about it is that it gets at my heart as a parent and from the heart flows my parenting. I have been convicted, encouraged, and challenged. I have a feeling I will be reading this book over and over again throughout my parenting. This book points you to the Word for the wisdom you will need as you care for your kiddos and to Jesus Christ as being the source of everything you need and reason for your parenting. So good! Highly recommend!!!

Another great parenting book by Tripp. Tripp’s goal is to free parents from the burden of producing results; those are on God. Our responsibility is to exercise what he calls ambassadorial authority from Christ towards our kids. That means we respond from a sense of calling, out of grace, teaching law but recognizing inability without Christ, resting in our identity in Christ, committed to parenting as a process, seeing parenting as reaching lost children, teaching them to come under authority, recognizing that foolishness and a lack of character is endemic to the human race, teaching our children to guard their hearts and become aware of their functional gods, recognizing that we want to do so much more than simply control behavior—we’re looking for heart and life change, yet we rest in Christ’s work and not our own perfect parenting in order to be joyful and patient over the long run. Finally, we extend mercy because Christ has extended His mercy to us first. All these 14 principles together comprise the “big gospel parenting worldview” that will make the world’s toughest job possible for imperfect parents.
My only criticism would be that Tripp tends to be wordy; however, if his writing is new to you, you’ll appreciate the patient laying down of foundational principles.
