This book fills my senses. Shauna Neiquist's descriptive writing makes me feel like I have entered her world.
The last chapter, especially, is the powerful reminder to show up just as I am. I so often (and desperately) need this reminder to return to simple, messy, real relationships and that the table is a place where this happens organically.

The stories and the recipes in this book have awakened something in me I didn't know I was missing. I have been challenged, equipped and inspired to invite others to our table, even with the crumbs and less-than- perfect tablescape. Such a picture of the Gospel of Jesus lived out in a tangible way!

I really enjoyed this book. I actually got this book for Christmas but I wouldn't have probably picked it out myself. After reading university textbooks all term, this was a great book to read on my Christmas holiday break. I made a connection with the author who developed friendships through her passions of food and faith.

Shauna's greatest gift, in my opinion, is that she can describe complex and deep emotions/circumstances without using complex language. She made me laugh and cry without being cheesy, just because she speaks the truth about real life. I flew through this book, devouring it like the author devours goat cheese and quinoa. Now I'm going to buy her previous two books. You'll finish the book eager for her to launch another.

Love reading Shauna's stories about her life and how food/entertaining/fellowship was woven into every mundane activity and special occasions. It was affirming to me because I love to cook and entertain and get so much pleasure out of having everyone around the dinner table and serving them. It's so important to create that legacy for your children and their children, etc. Great book!

Shauna is definitely an artist. She chooses her words carefully and beautifully in this book and I can imagine that her home and table is full of richness and delight. Her recipes are mouth-watering and her insights make you sit and ponder more than I ever did before about the dinner table and how it relates to friends and family, life and God.

I always love new recipes & techniques & look forward to trying those here. But more than that I love the heart that Shauna has communicated here. The truth & reminder that in simple table time we can find camaraderie, filling & relationship. Can't wait to start this sort of journey with the new ones God has brought across my path. I would recommend this book to pretty much anyone who is in relationship & desires to journey with others thru this thing called life. It's so much better together!

This book touches the inner most parts of your heart. Its a beautiful love letter to the table, to community, to life in relationship with others. The recipes are like little packages I can't wait to unwrap. Well done. Beautiful. Heart-warming. Thoughtful and thought provoking. I fell in love with Shauna's writing style when I read Bittersweet. Bread and Wine is her best yet. In a cold hospital room, it was the warmth and intimacy I needed. This book is like curling up on the couch with a hot latte and a new friend as she shares her heart, her stories, her struggles. Perfect in every way. Story-telling at its best. Thank you Shauna.

Phenomenal. Just a phenomenal combination of all things comforting and wonderful. She gives you food for your soul as well as your stomach with this compilation of delicate heart-essays. Things like this remind me I'm not alone in the world, and that people are more alike than we give them credit for. In a good way.

The pages of Bread & Wine invite you to experience life around the table with Shauna Niequist, a writer of remarkable skill, humor, and depth whose authenticity and warmth is magnetic. Shauna's use of language is delightful and rich, and her humor never fails to surprise me and make me laugh out loud. Each of Bread & Wine's short chapters tackles experiences common to most everyone--family dynamics, parenting, friendships, change, and loss. The book left me feeling invited--heck, excited--to be more intentional about life around my own kitchen table. Although Shauna is a good deal younger than me (I am 49), and in a different life stage than me, I closed the last page of her book hopeful and deeply motivated to renew my commitment to investing in the relationships that matter most--and with some great new recipes to try on my friends! I have read Niequist's other books, Cold Tangerines: Celebrating the Extraordinary Nature of Everyday Life and Bittersweet: Thoughts on Change, Grace, and Learning the Hard Way, which are terrific. Bread & Wine feels like the best of the bunch, and left me hungry for book #4. Shauna, when will you be cooking up another helping?

This book is so good! Buy it. No, stop thinking and just buy. Shauna makes you feel like you are chatting with a good friend, a big sis, and a cheerleader. So down to earth and just fun. No, really, just buy it.

Shauna Niequist's newest book, Bread & Wine, is such a delicious treat. More than a cooking book and yet not just a memoir, Shauna pairs the two with perfect seasonings of honesty, reflection, humor, and grace. Sharing both the highs and lows of the last few years and running amazing recipes through the chapters, she offers a culinary AND literary masterpiece of a book. I can't wait to start cooking and hosting dinner parties thanks to this beautiful book about community and life around the table. Get it today!!

The subtitle is absolutely true. Shauna has written love letter to invite us to come in beyond the front door and gather around the table of honesty and friendship. If every cookbook read like this, I might learn to cook more than just spaghetti and meatballs.

Intimate look at how one family uses food to create community. The recipes that are included are generally good and the author provides suggestions for "making them your own". The theme of food as a tool got a bit repetitive but the writing was good and the stories interesting so I stayed engaged. Overall, it inspired me to do some home cooking for my family which they appreciated.

Shauna Neiquist is the kind of author who makes you feel like you are missing out because she doesn't live next door. Her thoughts were compelling and inspiring. Like so many, I am tired of sticky sweet Christianity that thrives on what the outside looks like, but yearn for depth and difficulty to accompany gut wrenching laughter. May 2014 be the year I bake more bread and pour more wine as I seek deeper relationships with people and Jesus.

This book is delicious. Not only are the recipes wonderful, but the narrative is warm and inviting. Beyond that, the book has stayed with me on a personal level. Since reading it I've opened up my home more and have experienced more joy and fullness in fostering relationships around the table.

I loved reading of chapter of this book each night before bed. It helped me leave the dress of the day behind as I dove into a descriptive world of delicious food, honest memories and story-telling so vivid I could almost hear the laughter of friends around the dinner table. I gave the kindle version of this book to all of my friends, and they loved it. I have yet to try the recipes, but can't wait to test out a few. Highly recommend!

Shauna's writing is so relatable, heart warming and genuine. You find yourself connecting to her stories is so many ways. I have made several of the recipes and given this book as many gifts! Bring this book anywhere-the chapters are short, so if you only have a couple minutes, you have plenty of time to read a chapter or two. I highly recommend!

As I sat around the table tonight eating Shauna's Basic Risotto and giving updates around the table, I couldn't feel more at home, or at peace, or in the presence of God. Just eating, and sharing honest bits of food and of life together really is one of the most spiritual things we can do. Bread & Wine is gently calling me out. Reminding me what is needed at my core. Begging me to slow down and just be, and love, and eat. This book is a true gift, of truth, of hope, and of communion.
