Guardian Wolf (Black Mesa Wolves Book 1)

This is your standard cliffhanger it is a fast read literally can be read in I don't know 30 minutes 40 if you go slow. Nothing really fascinating about it one steamy scene it's just a very quick read so it doesn't stand out needs to have more in it to give it any sort of real review because you don't really get a sense of the characters you can't in such a quick read. It leaves you with a quick cliffhanger about wanting to know about the rogue wolves but even that doesn't leave you interested enough to want to know about the cliffhanger.

This one is about lily & Kieran.
Lily & her pack mate Sara, are at a bar, they meet Kieran, a touch of trouble shows up. Lily's brothers show up. A touch of sex thrown in, & the book is over.
What little is there, is good, but it's basically a long prequel in a book. The little bit of story is 3 stars. Reads well , editing is pretty good (a word or two missing), good characters. 1 star for a book that goes no where.

Really too short couldn't really gauge any feelings on this. I can honestly say that the hero when being described was HOT I know that much. The reasons for leaving and being celibate I just can't really feel any remorse because she is a shifter and has wolf inside her.

I really thought this was going to be better based on the description. Not much of a story at all. Just two people ogling each other and then finally doing something about it. It did start to get interesting when the rogue wolves showed up and then....nothing. It just leaves you hanging. I really hate it when authors do this. Is it too much to ask for a beginning,middle, and end in one story??? I don't mind the series concept but at least let the leads in each story have a complete story,not just a teaser to make the reader buy more. I also did not like the heroine too much, based on her back story. If you read it you'll see what I mean.

This was a very short introduction to the Black Mesa Wolves that sets up what is clearly the start of many more books. Lily is an estranged Guardian to the Black Mesa wolves who went through a very traumatic event. That trauma has put the pack at a deficit for power, which can be replenished if Lily takes back her place and has some sexy times.

Kieran is a visitor from another pack who saw Lily's true strength in how she dealt with the "incident." Since then, he's been obsessed. He's waited patiently, but tonight he decides to make his intentions towards her clear. The chemistry between these two lights the pages on fire! Unfortunately, they are interrupted by some trespassing rogues. Don't worry, though - we still get to the sexy times!

I am beginning to have a whole new appreciation for authors of short story's, it amazes me the amount of detail they can put into a story which has less than 100 pages. In short I absolutely loved this book, which is so well written that I felt emotionally attached to the main character from the first page.

The main character is Lily, she is a red haired werewolf the only one left. at the start of the story Lily is suffering from living with an issue from ages ago, this along with the fact that she has brothers who are probably overprotective of her make it difficult to trust other people. While at a bar with her friend she notices a hot guy at the bar,with some encouragement from her friend she finds the confidence to talk to him. One thing leads to another and we find ourselves reading about two characters who we can't wait to get together,luckily because it's a short story we don't have to wait long. With other complications we find our main character discovering confidence within herself that she didn't think was possible. I loved Lily as a main character she was strong and sassy when she needed to be as well as caring and I was glad to see that she found she could trust her mate.

The secondary characters included Sara, Kieran, and a small appearance from her brothers mainly Rafe and Caleb. Sara is Lily 's best friend she is the one who helps convince Lily to get to know the cowboy wolf from the bar. Kieran is the cowboy wolf from the bar who is dead set of getting to know Lily from the minute he sees her. Rafe and Caleb are Lily 's younger brothers, they seem to be protective yet supportive at the same time, whether this is because their dad forces them or because they care they definitely are a big impact on her life.

The pacing was great giving us a little extra than just the story we were expecting and leaving the inevitable get together to the last minute to build more importance on the potential uprising and threats on Lily 's life.

The storyline was similar to other books I've read however was still very enjoyable.

3.5 stars on to book 2.

WHOOOWEEEEE!! All this fire, humor and a WOLFTASTIC story too?!!? Forget about a cold shower, I think I need to bathe under Niagara Falls...in the wintertime!!! The heat in this book is off the charts, but it is the best kind of heat! Heat that has Wolfy instincts behind it. "eyes lit with wolf fire, wolf passion." Heat with a story to back it and make it that much more powerful! I was so instantly drawn into this story, wanting to know the reasons why things are the way they are, why Lily has been denying her wolf - her very self - for so long. But I also wanted to know who the smokin' hot cowboy was! Since I live vicariously through my book friends, their life becoming mine, me bringing THEM to life for the length of the book, I oh so hoped that Lily was going to save a horse tonight! Hell for the rest of my life! I mean, her, for the rest of HER life! But more impressively is how well developed the story itself is. It is enriched and given depth by having a past that Lily hasn't yet dealt with, nor accepted; there are multiple packs, a Pack Council, rules, laws, Pack life & way of life. J.K. has included all of my favorite shifter features in here too! The wolf has her/his own personality, the increased senses in human form, how closely the halves truly are, just to name a few, but the features that I loved the most are the exact same ones I can't share with you! You will have to read this story to discover them all for yourself. Speaking of which, I LOVE how J.K. took the wolf shifter persona and made it all her own!! J.K. made falling into this world so easy with her mightily impressive magical writing skills! I was actually surprised at the intensity and range of emotions that I felt with this story! So very many funny lines, quotable lines and just all around FURRIFIC story! Leaving was the hardest part! (Thankfully I have the next book all ready to read.) Typically I want full length novels, however I am not sure if I could have survived more to Lily & Kieran's story! It is THAT WOLFTACULAR!!!! This may be my first J.K. Harper book, and it may always be my favorite (you never forget your first, right?) but I promise you it will NOT be the last!

Lily Bardou and Kieran Randall are no exception. Both are from different packs, but make no mistake, Lily is on the hunt and Kieran is in her sights.
After being aloft for the past 2 years, Lily needs to get back to her role as guardian of the Black Mesa Wolf Pack. It is hard since she had to kill the last lover she had, but dam, the sexy cowboy with the black stetson hat just may change her mind.

Kieran Randall noticed Lily 2 years ago when she had to kill the human she bit. Her inner strength was remarkable considering what she had to do. His wolf definitely took notice, so when Lily starts stalking towards him in the bar, well, he sure isn't about to blow his chance to possible find out what he has been fantasizing about for the past 2 years.

A fun fast paced story.

I really wished the story was a bit longer. I didn't realize it was a novella but it would have been great to have a bit of a longer story. I did really enjoy it and it is written beautifully but i felt like the story could have had more depth to it. It was like i had a taste and then it was taken away! Such a tease this novella is. Really enjoyed it though and it definitely deserves four stars.

Oh sexy shifter ? wolves. This is my second book by J.K. HARPER, the first being Thrilled, about a sea dragon and once again, this didn't disappoint.

This was a very short book. An extremely fast read. The story was okay if you are looking for something really fast to read and are not offended by explicit sexual scenes. The was not action in this story, it was basically an "insta love" story with just a hint of something that must be coming in the next book. In my humble opinion, I don't feel that there was any character development and that's a shame because I felt I could gotten attached to Lily and Kieran. I hope to see more of them in the series.

Kieran has been sent to observe the Black Mesa Wolf Pack, after Lily broke pack rules. Now he is there to make her his mate and he doesn't take no for an answer, they belong together. Lily has been hiding these past few years from a terrible, haunting mistake she made. Then she met Kieran. Weirdly enough they came across rouge wolfs, who desperately want a pack of their own and believe because of her father they have a right to one. Will we ever know why? Desperate people go to desperate measures. Told from both Lily's and Kieran's point of view, this story is too good to put down. I finished it in about an hour and a half. Short but sweet, it will keep readers wishing for more. The only hamartia of the story is that you don't find out what happens. You have to wait and read book 2 to close some open story lines.

I read this story in a compilation of stories called Howl & Growl. If I could have given it a -10 I would have. I realize it's only a story, but the fact that a totally INNOCENT human had to die because Lily couldn't control herself made me incredibly angry. My first thought was that she should have been put to death also. My second thought was that she certainly did NOT deserve a happy ending. My third thought was that the humans should have risen up and dropped a nuclear bomb on all the packs. I can't handle the arrogance and total self involvement. I've read a lot of shifter stories and enjoyed most, but this story makes me not want to read any more of them. Again, I realize it's only a story and I shouldn't get so emotionally involved, but this was just so wrong on all levels.

I enjoyed this peek into the Black Mesa Wolf world. This is a short, steamy story with passionate characters. I really liked the unique pack mythology in this book. It isn't often that I'm surprised by a book, but this one was really different. I will be reading the rest of the series as soon as I can.

Within a few pages, it becomes clear that this in not a book high in finesse, character depth, or plot, yet the tension was still high enough for me to keep turning the pages. It's a very short, quick, easy, and enjoyable read on the whole. If you're looking for the rich western setting the cover promises, you'll be let down, just as you will be by the heroine's back story. But heck, I read it, I enjoyed it, and in that way, I can recommend it.
