Good supplement for treatment, but it would be even better with a little less "wordiness" and simpler explanations and more activity sheets/activities. Overall, good to have in your library if you're working with teens.

Excellent book. The teen that I purchased this book for has embraced it and stopped cutting and his/her emotions are more regulated. Wonderful examples are given that teens can relate it. This book really helps structure the sessions and gives the teen something to work on between sessions. My teen is no longer suicidal and is enjoying life without the drama.

This book helps remind me of valuable DBT skills I could be using with my clients. I have also been able to adapt it and take the ideas for use with a younger population as well. Great tool to have available when working with children and teens.

The concepts within are delivered in bite size increments. My children have enjoyed working through the books both in a group setting and on their own. Concepts that can be difficult for parents to explain or convey are made easier. It does use scenarios my teens don't completely understand like cutting, not eating, and other self harming ideas and I had to explain some of this to them. However even this offered an opportunity to explain things they may come in contact with in the future with other teens and adults. Overall it is an excellent tool to teach teens to cope with their emotions and the emotions of others as well, how to step back and assess a situation, and gives them tools to enable them to make more informed and thought through decisions.

This workbook has changed my life. I have wanted to get help with my anxiety and how I tend to view things, and that may be why it worked so well (I was willing to change--which is essential for receiving help or counseling), so I am not sure if you should just get this for someone who thinks they are able to cope (even when you believe they clearly are not coping well). My sister bought this for me (she asked if I would actually use it, to which I replied "yes!") and I was busy for about a week after getting it, but gee I wish I had found 15 minutes of time every day that week to work on it, because I was awake until almost 2 the first night I used it.
If you want to feel better about yourself and are willing to change, don't think twice; get this workbook.

Dialectical Behavioral Training is a very impressive program designed by Marsha Linehan. Classes for it are usually for adults and are generally 2-3 days a week for 2 hours for 1 full year. It absolutely changed my life, as a person and a mother, and I very much look forward to a format that I can share with my 12 year old child. She has Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and I know that these things that I've learned and have become, simply, a part of me, will greatly help her as well. I'll re-review it once we've finished it, but know that DBT is for every one of every age.

This book was recommended to me as a new therapist starting out. I've had good success in using the book from the beginning and pulling out specific activities that apply to the child I am working with.
