I fell in love with the story and characters immediately. I only have one complaint and that was that I wanted MORE! I read this in less than two hours and it went by like ten minutes. Great plot, pacing, character development and structure.

Love Cynthia Eden for her stories with strong female leads and sexy men. But this one was just blue and unbelievable. Short and entertaining and free but just ok especially since she usually does her world of The Others so well.

I really enjoyed the story, character s were well written. But as with any book, you become invested in the characters, and this one is too short t o really satisfy. If there were more books available with Ava and Julian it would have gotten a whole star higher.
The Devil In Disguise (Bad Things) (Volume 1) :: Marked By The Vampire (Purgatory) (Volume 2) :: Bite The Dust (Blood and Moonlight Book 1) :: The Wolf Within (Purgatory Book 1) :: Lord of the Silver Bow (Troy Trilogy, Book 1)

Ava Dushaine is a very unique Sheriff. She keeps the peace in a town populated by humans, vampires, and werewolves. Something is happening in her town as the blood moon approaches, paranormals are being killed and she finds herself caught in the middle of things with her ex-lover who is the prime suspect in the killings. But it is not the alpha wolf that she has to worry about but betrayal.
Julian Kasey is the alpha of the werewolf pack in town. He is suspected of being involved in the recent killings having been drawn by the blood of one in his woods. He has a history with Ava and is tied to her in a way that is unbeknownst to Ava. He watches over her not to absolve himself of the killings but to protect her, she is his woman and it’s time they acknowledged it.
This is a very short paranormal romance story, too short to have much depth but it was enjoyable. I would have liked it to have been a bit longer, so that the history between these two characters could have been developed more and perhaps a flashback to the one time they were together before this.

I found this book to lack character development and background information. The main concept was interesting. I wish the author had taken the time to draw me into the world she created with a little more details. I guess my main complaint is that it was just ordinary.

Author Cynthia Eden’s short paranormal read is just the right length to read before bedtime. Even though the author has followed the basic stereotype short story paranormal format it is an entertaining read.
Deputy Sherriff Ava Dushaine is very protective of her town and its inhabitants. She is hell-bent to keep the peace between humans, shifters and vampires in this small rural town in Louisiana.
Deputy Sherriff Ava Dushaine becomes caught between her ex-lover, werewolf Julian Kasey as the evidence mounts against him as murders start happening as the “Blood Moon” approaches.
Werewolf Julian Kasey becomes aware that the woman he still loves is in danger. He put himself in the middle just to protect her. Ava will soon find out who she can trust and who her real enemies are.
I found that the story lacked character background information as well as character development. But what little the author did show helped keep the story interesting and moving right along.

Wonderful story of the paranormal kind. Shows that greed exists every where and the lengths people will go to get what they think is their right to have. It is scary when you realize that these greedy people exist every where in our world. Makes me want to build an 8 foot tall fence around my property and never leave it!

I heard about Cynthia Eden's novella on Twitter, and I'm so glad I checked it out. It has a strong resilient heroine who's the sheriff and peacekeeper between the vamps and the weres; and a super-sexy alpha were who has put his mark on her. Add some suspense and gun-fighting action adventure, along with some steamy attraction between heroine and hero, and you have a very satisfying story.

the story itself was good. too short and fast paced. lacking in details. should have started with a background on her with more insight into her story with the high school boyfriend and her scratches. then gone on to the first murder not the third.

I'm not a short stories person because generally there's just not enough character development or plot development for me.
In this case, Cynthia Eden writing develops just enough character depth and interaction that has me wanting to read more. I understand that there are further installments after this.
I'm not going to give anything away but I don't think readers will be disappointed at all!

I loved this story and really found myself wishing there was more. Julian and Ava are seriously smokin'. Through just this short journey you could tell there was so much more to what was right before your eyes and I loved that. Let's just say, with Miss Eden's tale, nothing is as it seems and you're left longing for more.

There's nothing more enjoyable than reading a fast-paced book that is well written and has great characters. This was a short novella about Ava, a deputy sheriff in rural Louisiana, bent on protecting the humans from the supernatural forces in her county. Problem is, she's already fallen for the super-hot Alpha of the local werewolf pack, Julian, and she tries to fight that throughout the story.
I am hoping this is a smaller bit of a story to a larger, more drawn out story or series of books because these characters are fabulous and I really want to read more about them. If not, I'll be reading more of this author's work because she has a way or writing that makes it easy for the reader to get lost in without having to trip over big, unnecessary words or annoying typos.
5 Stars!

Loved the characters and the story. I did not see the twist in the plot coming, well done Ms. Eden. This novella kept my interest from the first to last page. I now have to go find Bound in Death to continue the story :-).
