I taught chess to my nine year old granddaughter with this book. She was interested and found it easy to follow. After a few hours of theory and practice, we were playing chess. It is an excellent tool to teach children the basic game and beginners should keep it as reference.

I bought this book for my children's school library. I am the chess coach at their school and have been making efforts to increase the library's collection of chess books for children. This book is a fine addition to the collection. As I read through it I thought that my K-2 crew would probably enjoy it more than my 3-5 crew, but so be it. I think learning any activity should include reading about it, in addition to having personal instruction. This book will help those little ones to develop good learning habits and good chess habits as well.

This is a great book written to attract kids attention with a mix of cartoons and text. I knew how to play chess but I had trouble teaching the skills to my son. This book starts from the basics and provides simple fun exercises for kids to help them practice the moves. This is a great book for beginners.

My daughter is 5 and expressed interest in learning chess. This is a great book for someone just learning. We're taking this very slow so that my daughter never feels pushed. She isn't strategic yet about anything. She does understand how each of the pieces move and likes playing with the chess pieces. We set up the situations shown in the book and let her use her understanding to move the pieces.

Attempts to be kid friendly, but the kid must already really want to learn to play chess for this book to have any value. The illustrations are too crude and the visual diagrams too boring to convince anyone to play chess unless they already want to. I wanted a book that would make chess exciting for a kid like the one pictured on the cover. This wasn't it.

Chess game instructions made easy to understand; even for adults like me! Very basic Chess game instructions/review that are concise and to the point; even my 6 yr old understands. I didn't realize that Chess teaches algebra, as this is great for younger children as they get exposed to higher levels of math, and don't even realize because the game is so fun !

This is fantastic for children and easy to read and understand. I bought it for a teenage girl that I mentor and who does not like to read. She is determined to beat me at chess so she reads it diligently. Aha! Guess who's reading now and enjoying it? Hope she doesn't see this! LOL
