Well now...the ratings are all over the place for this one and I suppose I could explain my reaction to the book is based on the fact I have been sick with a virus for a week and on lots of meds...so when I tell you that it kept me reading straight through for the entire day till I was done...
Very unique, very brutal, very violent and sexual...sex and violence and mental torture and what can I say...I totally love that stuff.
Read at your own risk but I am sure glad I did. I want to be challenged and entertained and not bored when I dive into a novel and Crash did all that and more. Not for the easily offended or faint of heart but a definite thrill ride that made me want my own mountain man (although perhaps a little tamer than this one).

**** 4 **** "brilliant, dangerous and unique" stars

Did not see that ending coming!!! Laney's mental state at times I questioned, but in the end I understand why is the way she is. I highly recommend this series for anyone who loves erotica mystery stories.

This book has mystery, thrill and romance all in one. It held my attention and the ending was a shocker. I'm not sure if I'll read the next book because it got a bit intense at the end but I can be a wimp.

Crash starts off really well, then the author decided to go for the Mills and Boon, Fifty Shades of Grey market in the middle, the ending was also good. Basically a woman comes in and out of consciousness after a small plane crashes in the remote Alaskan wilderness. She is injured and being carried shot game style by a man over his shoulder and tied to his legs. She ends up in a cabin where her rescuer doesn't speak much but seems to be quite competent at taking care of her injuries. She can't get much out of him, but can tell he is judging her and not always liking what she does, especially when she keeps probing into wanting to know his name, and isn't sure if she should fear him or trust him. She knows her phone doesn't work and she likely be killed by the elements if she tries to reach a town he says is 40 miles or something away.

Then the porn chapters start.

Whoa. LOVE LANEY AND HER STRANGER. You fall in love with him at the beginning but then as the story progresses you question the strangers motives....is he evil? But then you fall in love with him again and can't seem to decide if you as a reader are a part of some Stockholm syndrome effect....it's incredible

Worst romance EVER! If you like mild bondage it's ok, if you like cutting & drinking your partner's blood, it's ok. There isn't any romance & if you're looking for steamy sex scenes, forget it. Not in this book. The writing is ok, but it turns out that the girl is seriously screwed up mentally. Psychopaths! I was doing ok with it until the cutting & licking blood off each other, but once I start a book, I have to finish it. It ends with her murdering her friend who was trying to help her. Not a typical romance.

Where to begin? This book is unlike anything I've ever read before. It's raw. It's dirty. It makes you question yourself. Would you fall in love with your captor? Would you try to escape? I don't give it 5 stars simply because I feel that some scenes ( *ahem* involving cutting and blood) will be too much for the average reader looking for an erotic thriller. This is a dark, unique, interesting tale and I am very much looking forward to what happens next... And that ending???? O.o

Title: Crash
Series: Crash
Author: Drew Jordan
Designation: Book One of Series, NOT a Standalone, Cliffhanger Warning
My Rating: TWO VEXING STARS**
It's highly unusual for me rate a book less than three stars. Typically before reading a book by a new-to-me author, I read the blurb and the online sample of the first few chapters which, in most cases, allows me to form an opinion as to whether I will enjoy the book. I readily admit the author was completely upfront with a disclosure in the first two sentences of the blurb stating that this story is a dark erotic thriller and not a traditional romance, but rather a love story with a twist that will leave you wanting more. What she didn't say, and I can now only assume, is the blurb should be viewed as code to mean no genuine romance, a twisted view of love and unexpected cliffhanger ahead. Unfortunately, I didn't particularly care for this story. Generally, I'm fairly lenient with my ratings and base my ratings primarily on whether they are enjoyable and entertaining for me. It's seldom I find a novel I can't finish because of poor craftsmanship but after reading the sample, I was fairly confident that this book was well written and edited. And admittedly, the author does seem to be a talented storyteller but it's the actual plot and story arc to which I take exception. Yes, the author did say it was dark and I do enjoy delicious dark erotic romance but this story is not in the least romantic nor passionate (to me); it was, however, sick, twisted, warped and quite often frustrating (to me). I don't really object to dark, twisted and deviant if there's even a glimmer of hope for either of the protagonists but neither of the primary characters in this story exhibit any regret nor any desire or hope of absolution, redemption, recovery or reclamation. If anything, as the story progresses, both become even more perverted, sadistic, apathetic, unappealing, cruel and unsympathetic with each feeding off the depravity, insanity and instability of the other. Come on, someone please explain how in the world an author could ever possibly justify the cold blooded murder of an unsuspecting, innocent man by one of the pivotal characters. Oh, and the victim had no weapon. Granted, he may have been trying to coerce her into bending to his wishes but what's wrong with a dramatic, good old fashion NO! But to make myself perfectly clear, there is nothing remotely sexy or romantic about cold blooded murder. At first, I actually liked both characters but as the story progressed, there were perplexing inconsistencies, roundabout retractions and contradicting information, as well as incongruously explained secrets. I found myself genuinely disliking both protagonists, found them offensive, appalling and no longer engaging. We learn that the female protagonist is Laney Turner but we never discover the actual identity of the male protagonist other than 'the stranger' and Laney's constantly changing characterizations identifying him by different male names. I realize this was done intentionally by the author to build the suspense in the story but sorry, it's just difficult for me to form an attachment at all with a character when I don't know their name or know absolutely nothing about them. And made even more difficult when the information disclosed becomes muddled, unclear and constantly contradicted. Case in point: the only person who loved Laney was her stepfather Dean who always took care of her and treated her well (according to her, at first) but he sends her an email telling her he met someone else but not really because he's in prison and then she discloses Dean didn't really love her, and she seduced him when she was only 18. And her sister will miss her but she's not really her sister. Huh? Yeah, I know what their relationship is. I figured out that little nugget before it was revealed in the book but I'm not telling. No more spoilers from me! Laney claims to be nonviolent and would never hurt a fly but she's constantly instigating confrontations and situations that lead to drama. She sees herself as sweet, innocent and helpless when in reality she's whiny, self-absorbed and manipulative. Also. the narrative is written in the first person from only Laney's perspective so we never have any actual idea what's going on in the mind of the stranger which I found to be one-sided and disconcerting. Several times, I found myself having to flip back to earlier sections of the book, trying to clarify information making my experience more puzzling and confusing. Now, I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but I've never had any difficulties understanding or following a story - until now.
Laney Turner, is flying from Seattle, Washington to Alaska to visit and hopefully marry a childhood friend, Michael St Claire, whom she hasn't seen for twelve years. After boarding a connecting flight on a much smaller aircraft in Fairbanks, there is a sudden problem which results in the plane crashing in the wilderness of Alaska. All the passengers and crew are killed with the exception of Laney who has only minor injuries but even minor injuries can become deadly in the harsh Alaskan conditions. She's miraculously rescued by a handsome, enigmatic stranger who refuses to reveal his identity and carries her to his secluded cabin located 40 miles from the nearest settlement. Laney soon realizes that her mystery man is no longer just her rescuer but has now become her dangerous, deadly captor. A dark, torrid and destructive dominant/submissive relationship quickly develops between Laney and her stranger, one in which they feed off each other's depravity. Laney is a willing participant but attempts to justify her behavior, claiming to herself that her survival is completely dependent upon the stranger and she's only playing along until she can find a means of escape. Their connection becomes darker and even more destructive as they spend more time together in the secluded cabin. After a couple of ill-conceived and failed escape attempts which result in more drama, sex and punishment, the relationship finally culminates in both declaring their love for each other. When Laney's body is not discovered with the other victims, everyone naturally assumes she's also dead from exposure or has been killed by natural predators. Laney has had a difficult life with an uncaring mother and a stepfather with whom she had an incestuous relationship who are both currently in prison. She's convinced no one cares enough to look for her but Laney would be wrong; someone is looking for her and unfortunately will find her. But what will Laney decide when she's faced with a decision that will alter her life forever? And what will the stranger do? Ask her to remain with him or convince her to return to her home? If you're looking for passion, true love, beautiful romance and a happy ending, then you best keep looking. This book is none of those things and it does end with what I consider to be a cliffhanger since there is no real resolution in my mind. So, proceed at your own risk! What did I like about this book? It was actually a well constructed and well-edited book. The author seems to have an exceptional imagination as well as great language and writing skills. What didn't I like? I did not like the fact that we never discover the identity of the stranger nor any real information about him. Technically, there's nothing wrong with this book; I just didn't like the plot development, story progression and the overall direction the author chose to take the story. It's just a personal preference. I would have liked this book so much more had the author introduced a complementing point of view from 'the stranger'. Would I recommend it? Not really. Will I read this author again? Probably not. Although there is another book currently available that is a continuation of this story, I will, most likely, not purchase it. Sorry, it's just not my cup of tea. And in case there's any doubt by anyone reading this review, I read every word and stuck with this story until the bitter end.

**Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**

"Crash" is written by Drew Jordan, and it is a stand-alone book. It features Laney and her rescuer.

Laney was the only survivor of an Alaskan plane crash, and we find her rescued by a mysterious man. Her rescuer takes her to his cabin where he watches over and takes care of her. There are so many questions about this guy, and yet, Laney is drawn to him. Simply put, she's addicted. Who is he? What's his name? Does he have good intentions? Why is he living so far away from the rest of civilization? Will anyone she's still alive?

This book was interesting. It was dark and erotic, but also had suspense and was a thriller. It's definitely not the typical happily-ever-after romance type of novel I'm used to reading, so it was a little hard for me to adjust to. The beginning was a little slow for me, but once you get to the middle, the plot thickens. And the ending was totally unexpected! You just go through a range of emotions while you read this, and it left a lot of questions. I think with the way the book ended, it left it open for a follow-up novel. "Crash" wasn't really my cup of tea, but I'm sure others will like it.
