This book is filled with useful information for all dog owners. It tells you how to pick the right dog for your life style and what to avoid when picking a dog. Has great tips on teaching your dogs tricks.

I recently replaced an old copy of this after getting a new dog, and needing to brush up on how to be a "good owner". Repetition of the Kilcommons way makes it so easy and enjoyable to establish -and retain- good canine behavior.

If you say things like "bad dog", this is not going to be a reinforcing book for you. If you gush over your dog and let it get away with "normal dog stuff" because it amuses you, this is not going to be a reinforcing book.

If you accept that YOU are the problem with your dog's behavior, this is going to be a very helpful book.

After having read many books on this subject -- I would rate "Good Owners, Great Dogs" on the top. It covers all aspects of dog care and training in a realistic, easy to understand manner. After having purchased dog care/training books with nothing but text, or nothing but photos -- this book was a welcome relief with a perfect mix of both. Incredibly useful - should be a must have reference book for all dog owners.

My sister give me this book 10 years ago, everything you need to know is in this book, no other books needed. A neighbor girl took in a lost dog, he had no home, was dirty weak and hungry. He slept outside for 2 weeks and was afraid of everyone. Except for this one 11 year old girl. I ordered this book for her and she has done a great job of training him. She has a new buddy, that's also his new name.

I have had dogs my entire life and consider myself a "good" dog owner, but this book taught me SO much more than what I already knew (or thought I knew). It is easy to read and understand and so informative! I definitely recommend this book to new dog owner or seasoned ones like myself!

We really found this book helpful in training our puppy. The author is easy to read, amusing and seems to really know his stuff. The advice is clear and easy to follow. He balances a caring approach with firmness, which I liked.

Great advice for dog owners!

I truly believe that their are no bad dogs, there are simply bad owners. Pit bull, rottweiler, etc... their behavior is all a function of their owner and how they are raised and trained. Brian Kilcommons and Sarah Wilson agree with this view point and support it in their guide to training your dog.

This book is full of great advice and challenges you to think about dog ownership and the role you as an owner play.

I highly recommend for any first time dog owner.

To prepare for getting a puppy, I purchased five books. Good Owners, Great Dogs is by far the most informative and helpful of the five. It begins with how to pick a puppy, provides specific training exercises for puppies. The book then moves to training adult dogs and discusses how to curb behavior problems. Out of all the books I've read, this book provides the most practical advice and the writing style of Kilcommons is easy to follow and understand.

Really useful for a first time dog owner. Full of great tips and product recommendations. Also, it's very humane, unlike some other books that suggest you don't give your puppy water at certain times, etc. Overall, I really recommend it.

Bought this book for multiple people, a good reminder that the mind of a dog is not as human as you think. Positive reinforcement over time has been the best method of teaching and training my dog, and I only get upset with myself when I lose my temper and train otherwise. This book is a must for new dog owners.

Own several dog training books and videos. Like the authors use of dog psychology to explain why dogs do what they do and to use it to get the dogs to do what we want.

I reference this book often. Incredible amount of information in one book. Definitely worth the price.
