The book is a love story like many young adult fantasy. I like how the story moves quickly without too much rambling to explain simple sunset. The storyline has a familiar feel, but ends in a mystery that makes you wanting to know more. So enjoy but I'm off to read book 2 :)

I loved this book so much I couldn't put my kindle fire down. It was descriptive it didn't lack any detail which I appreciated. I hate reading a book and it goes to fast and doesn't give any detail. But this book was perfect :).

Good story. Well written. Very few grammatical errors. I enjoyed the concept of fallen angels being vampires, though it is not a new concept, and the concept of werewolves was pleasantly surprising. Nice. Refreshing twist. However I was rolling my eyes at the idea of an attractive, American, female college student being a virgin in this day and age, let alone only having a single kiss with a single boy. Not a very believable concept in reality. Overall this book was a good read. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

I should have seen it coming, but this is just another one of those sappy 3-way romances that is trying to capitalize on the Twilight fan base. It you're up for a shallow romance and 2 guys fighting over a seriously average girl, you will probably actually like this book. The writing was decent, I just didn't like the story.

If I wanted to read I diary, I would write my own. This book told the story just like you would in a diary with minimal of the storyline being lived in real time. Having an epic love story filled with tons of one-liners and a person who is the epitome of perfection while the heroine is nothing more than a damsel in distress the entire freaking book. Then there's every male in this book falling all over themselves because they think they love her just by being in her presence...what the hell does she have about her that draws them in like that? A sold gold pussy and beer flavored nipples? Jesus! I've read a lot of books in my life but this is one of the most annoying that I've ever read.

I can't understand all the postitive reviews for this book. Honestly, I am flabbergasted.

It seems like this book was written by a preteen infatuated with the Twilight series and trying to write herself a paranormal romance that rivals Stephenie Meyer's "hit" series. The romance was fake. Brand takes one look at the heroine, Lilly Rayne Nightengale (what a name...) and is instantly in love with her. Let's not forget every other male character that loves her. Yup, she's just your average girl next door. Don't even get me started on the other characters.

Your money is best spent elsewhere. Otherwise this book is an embarrassment to your book shelf. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of buying the first two books to this series at the same time. (Who the heck knows why I read the second one, Didn't want to waste my money I guess) You can see my equally disdainful review on the second book to the series, Blessed.

It's a decent story. A few minor twists on classic paranormal but a love triangle none the less. I don't care for the writing style like I do many of the other authors out there. It's very blunt, matter of fact. I don't need a lot of flourish but I don't want to read a directions manual either. I will read the whole trilogy bc despite the style the author hooked me with a cliff hanger and I'm not one to leave things open ended. However I will say this, the stereotyping is unbelievable. From the way the characters talk to their actual names to their habits as people. And not cleverly or as a pun "black people like chicken" way. Which ps they like chicken because It's delicious not because they have a better tan than I do. It's in an unimaginative "meet Mrs Jenkins she's gonna fry us up come chicken after church y'all" way. The writer is too factual and blunt to pull this off as character description or as an anecdote about them. It's pretty close to offensive.

This book sounded good in theory, but it was a complete let down. The grammar and spelling were pretty awful and it just seemed so forced. The dialogue was stationed and totally unrealistic. It seemed like the author was trying too hard to make the story worth reading. The main character, Lilly, annoyed me. She was just so wishy-washy. The romance between her and Brand was completely unrealistic and fake. In all, the book was pretty bad. I wouldn't recommend it.

Maybe I'm a little too old for this one, the lines are way too cheesy for me. The relationship between Lilly and Brand is so unrealistic and played into tween fantasies about a perfect man. I couldn't finish it, the entire first have of the book is about how perfect Brand is and all the perfect things he did. It was really relentless and annoying.

If I were going to attempt to write a book, it would probably read like this. Which is why I don't write books... Just kind of all over the place, not much development of characters, I wanted more from Will....just not a very complicated read..;0_

All the characters sound the same. Lots of unnecessary events and conversations. I regret wasting my money on this not worth the price or time to read definitely will be a deleted book from my library.

This was such a good story. I'm a huge fan of this type of fantasy. I read the whole trilogy and really enjoyed it. I went right into the Chronicle Series and its even better! But, read these first! You won't be disappointed.

I think it was too revolved around her being too wrapped up in the love triangle. For a young adult supernatural novel, you don't find out until the end of the book what the other two characters are and that she is special. I just wasn't impressed.

If you want to read one of the worst books ever written this gem is for you. Interested in a plot that makes no sense-Characters so ridiculous that you are praying they die in some sort of Game of thrones manner? The best part of the book is abrupt nonsensical ending. One can only hope that such ending took place because the author died or had his/hands cut off by an angry literature teacher. I love this genre of literature but this book is just a piece of sh**!

I was excited to read this book - I was excited to read all three installments but could hardly make it through this first one. Let me start by saying that the characters are so shallow and boring. The fact that the main characters fall in love so quickly was absolutely unbelievable and the story line was even more boring than the characters. I started to read the second book, but could not make myself read it till the end. A waste of money spent.

I never leave book reviews but after reading this book it's necessary. The story line is weird, corny, and not realalistic. The characters suck and I'm really upset about the way the black best friend Tara is presented. At first I was happy to see some (however tiny) amount of diversity displayed in a YA book, but as a black woman i feel her insulted because news flash no matter what you see on tv black women do not act like that. And yes I am from the south like the black girl Tara. And in one page the main character teases the black best friend about her nappy hair. Refering to our hair like that is something you never. I don't even use that word. Just horrible. And she named the black girl "Tarajinka Shovanda Jenkins". I mean really?

This is a good story for you if you're interested in constantly shifting teenager/college students' love lives, but then they don't really have those because this series is in the Christian genre and sex scenes are usually a no-no. The only black girl in the story is the only one who has had sex out of the women characters, I think, and regretted it according to the main character, Lilly. So you're stuck with a series of random events and men happening to Lilly, a hormone-addled and confused girl (on point for an 18-year old). Except, this one is abstinent, along with her best friend Tara, a black girl who is chaste too, now, but she only deals with one guy, and she doubles as a chastity belt and mother hen for Lilly. As a black woman, I wanted to just rip Tara out the book. I didn't get why she was needed. She didn't really support Lilly when Lilly needed it. Tara's annoying henpecking over Lilly and Tara's sudden tendency toward violence in Lilly's defense doesn't come off as well as West wanted it to, and it makes Lilly look weak. I think Tara was supposed to be funny, umm no.
I admit the story gets annoying when no reasons come forth for why bad things keep happening to the Lilly halfway through a very long book, probably in the name of suspense-building, for most of the read. I'm not sure who the main male character is for most of the book too. Scratch that, I still don't know. The random life-threatening occurrences go on until almost the end of the book where you get a few answers, then a lovely cliffhanger just as the plot starts to come together and you have proof it's actually a paranormal read. You end up with even more questions, which is why they call it a cliffhanger. The characters with all the answers aren't introduced in book 1 and the one who may have all the answers disappears off the pages.
Now, there are parts of this book that are insanely hilarious. Humor will keep me turning the pages even when I'm ready to throw in the towel. I'm a silver-lining kind of reader who doesn't mind reading the side of a cereal box, so yeah, I'm easy when it comes to books and nearly died laughing when who I think is the main male lead had to cut his badly cooked Mac-n-cheese with a knife and fork.
I think West tried to include everything that keeps you wanting to know more about her characters as the sexual tension builds between them time and time again then is blown out time and time again for the most unbelievable of reasons, and West accomplishes keeping you interested. I just have one piece of advice. As a reader, if a writer is going to allude to sex, I expect to either get a sex scene or just leave it alone. The sex isn't a must, and constantly bringing a reader to an edge and then pulling them back every single time is irritating. My one and only review for this writer is done, and I will certainly continuing supporting this writer through KU.

I'll admit there was a draw to this book. There were just a few issues.
Though it was funny, it was also ridiculous that despite being raised almost exactly like the heroine, the black best friend was written so stereotypically it ruined a lot of the best friend moments.
Next Lilly became the typical heroine when she was put in a love triangle situation. She supposedly love one, yet eventually threw him over completely for the other.
Next, this is definitely for mature audiences and I hate when they rate books with multiple sex partners as something appropriate for early teens.
Those may seem like small grievances but they almost ruined the book for me. I realized about half way through if I didn't finish it wasn't gonna keep me awake at night, hence 3 stars. But since I finished I'm going to move to book 2.

No Spoiler Alerts ? ! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I'm so happy ? that I have a new series to read, for the next for days!!
I love all the twists and turns of the book, real people wanting to kill her, but why? People sent to kill her and then, changing their mind all because of this one girl named " Lily." Who is she? This is still yet to be determined in the next book!!!
I especially love ❤️ " 3 way love triangle going on " for Lily.
But, what will her heart ❤️ choose? I was so happy to find out at the end of this book.

I loved this series, it was enticing from the 1st page, I am a mother of two teens, and I will not give my age.. and was a high school teacher before I became disabled because of a student, which means I have a Masters degree in Education and before I read this book I read a few comments that said that these books are only for pre-teens. I felt that insulting to not only the author, but to anyone who is in my age group or anyone who would enjoy this book/series. Never believe what the comments say because everyone has different opinions. If I cannot get into a book within the first chapter, I stop and do not read the rest of the book, and would never say anything bad about the author because it maybe the writing and I didn't click. Then I try again at another time, and I always find that I usually either like the book or I truly didn't.

Anyways, I say this book is amazing and can't wait to read the next book!

This book is a different spin on werewolves, vampires, fairies, angels etc. Its characters are in college ranging from 18 to 25 ish. You've got the main character, best friend and two to three male hotties crying for her attention. You have jealous girls and family issues as well. You have suspense, drama, love, angst, jealousy and even parts of Christianity and Judaism. This is no way a clean Christian story. It's a YA story that pulls parts of different religions to put depth into this paranormal story.
the story has a crazy amount of problems and situations going on. Even so, the writer still ties a lot of things up. But.. ,there are a bunch of problems still waiting to be resolved.

I found it when I searched for Angel Romance. But there is much more behind the Angel aspects.
Now onto book 2

WARNING: This review may consist of spoilers.
I had been reluctant to read this series due to the love triangle. However, one of my book clubs online urged me to try it, and so I did since this was on Kindle Unlimited and the audiobook was only for $1.99. I didn’t have much to lose in my part if this book turned out to be unpleasant. But to my surprise, I listened to it in one sitting. The book cover spoke for itself. The story was about Fallen Angels—which on top of my preference to read. So, the love triangle was bearable since the author had kind of established that Lily and Brand would end up together despite of some bumps here and there. I was glad since I preferred Brand (a fictional character that many women would love to have in the real world ) even though Malcolm was also adorable. This first installment was from Lily’s point of view. First, she was entailing her relationship with Will—who she fell in love with in high school but her affection was not returned until Brand came into the picture during her freshmen year in college. This was how the love triangle had begun. Will was trying to win Lily back, but of course, her attention was already focused on Brand . Second, Lily’s life was in danger. Malcolm was a dark angel who was hired by someone to kill Lily, but he also became fond of her due to her peculiarity. So, the assassination did not take place. Then, the second set of love triangle came about. Despite of the complicated situation of these three musketeers caused by the enchantress (Lily), they had worked together to find out who ordered the heroine be killed. Unfortunately, it remained unsolved. The author had already established the origins of Will, Brand, and Malcolm as fallen angels. However, Lily’s lineage/heritage remained a mystery. I speculated that she had some angel blood in her as well but from a powerful hierarchy of angels--an archangel perhaps. Hopefully, book two would unravel more of the unanswered questions in this installment.

***I was gifted with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% my own.***

We meet Lilly as she’s starting her first official day of college. She is convinced that she leads a cursed life when she misses her entire first lecture. But it isn’t the first time she has been the victim of circumstance. In a later class she meets Brand, and she’s convinced she’s never met anyone more perfect. He even has a British accent to go along with this devastating good looks and his respectful charm. It’s obvious from the very start that Brand is taken with her. And she’d be just as taken with him, if it weren’t for Will. Will was her best childhood friend, aside from Tara, and the one who saved her always. But after they had a first kiss, he seemed to put as much distance between them as possible, until there was nothing BUT distance.

I loved the characters in this book. Utha Mae, Malcolm, Lilly, Brand, Abby, Will, Tara….all of them. And there is a whole lot that I’m not going to tell you. I will say I was surprised at a few things, not so much at others. And even though this was left at a cliffhanger, it wasn’t a crap-tastic one. It was still a satisfying end. BUT there are these nagging questions…yeah. Not asking them here. I’ll let all of you figure it out.

Ms. West’s book started out a little flat for me, but before it was over, I was obsessively reading about these characters and couldn’t wait to get my greedy hands on the next two books. After checking on the store, she has an entire COLLECTION of books based in this world, and I cannot wait to delve deeper into them. So would I recommend this book? This is good and safe for anyone to read. This isn’t middle grades or anything, so I’d leave it to those in high school at the youngest. But that’s simply due to the characters being in college and dealing with more adultish themes.

Lilly Rayne Nightingale believes that she is cursed. Ever since the night her best friend Will rescued her from drowning, strange things have been happening to her. Will, the boy who has held her heart from childhood, has withdrawn since that fateful night, but he always seems to be there to rescue Lilly from her latest calamity.
Then Lilly starts college and meets Brand. Things quickly progress and suddenly, Will is on the scene again. Lilly must choose between the boy she has longed for since she was a girl, and the sexy, incredible man she has just met. But both boys are harboring secrets that could change everything.

A gripping, sexy tale full of romance, action, adventure and hotness. I loved Brand and Lilly’s characters, as well as the delightfully spicy Tara. Perhaps it was because I listened to the audible version, but I loved picturing the sassy southern characters. Some of the scenes I felt were cliched, especially the declarations of love, and this made it hard to believe in parts of the story. Yet the tale was entertaining and held my attention all the way through, ending on a nice high note. I would love to find out what’s next in store for the characters!

I give not only Cursed, but the whole saga five stars.
This book and saga gives a fresh take on watchers, angels, demons, the fallen, and Lucifer. Ms West writes in such a way that makes you not only like the characters, but makes you want to pull for them, know about their stories, and makes you care about them. You will laugh with them and cry for them. They pull at your heart strings.
In Cursed, we meet the main characters Lilly and Brand. We find that their circumstances may not have always been easy, but with the help of others they will save humanity for their lifetime and more to come. They play an instrumental role in saving many worlds by the end.
I this saga even Lucifer can find love and redemption. The best part is it is not too preachy.
Of course there are a few inappropriate stereotypes. Mostly just lines of some of the characters. But it is not too distracting. It would just have been nice for the author or editors to have taken a moment to realize it is a bit offending.
That beeping said, I would recommend this book and series to anyone who wants to lose themselves in a great saga. I couldn't wait to see how everyone's stories played out. Invest the time in it and you won't be disappointed.

If you're someone who hates love triangles, or feels all supes should follow the set standards of every paranormal book you've ever read......This book is not for you. This book had an interesting take on fallen angels that I hadn't read before which was surprisingly refreshing. There is a love Triangle......or love square.....? Which in the real world is unrealistic but this is paranormal book where the impossible is supposed to be possible. It's what makes Paranormal reads so much fun. I've seen the comments about how unrealistic love at first sight is in this book, but what they neglect to tell you is that the males feel drawn to the lead female because she frees them of their cursed selves. Would it not be natural to fall in love with someone who makes you feel so peaceful and normal in a way you had only ever dreamed was possible? Yes, this book ends with a cliffhanger, but it also solves a big riddle before ending so I didn't feel cheated. Obviously there are more books so why would everything tie up in one? Let's use common sense people. If you're looking for the bland run of the mill paranormal read, this isn't for you. However if you don't mind trying something new, give this book a try. People with an open mind will be pleasantly surprised. Im looking forward to the next book.

A worthy rival to Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series, this exciting new series is packed with imaginative vision and brilliant characters. Scintillatingly suspenseful and a real page-turner, I was sucked into this wonderfully compelling tale that tugged at the heartstrings as it swept me away. The profound poignancy and emotion within the well-conceived narrative made me laugh and cry, as I lost myself within an enchanting `love triangle' that conflictingly pulled me in one direction and then the other. Amid the intense passion, spellbinding mystery and promise of hope was a refreshingly original `take' on ancient legends. I loved the author's unique approach to the genre and the extraordinary world building and depth, with touches of brilliance and inspired concepts that surprised me totally! As a lover of paranormal {Angels/ Demons/ Love triangles} and the Young Adult setting of High School, this was a book that I felt irresistibly drawn to...including the striking cover.

Book 1: Cursed of The Watchers series is set within a contemporary 21st Century setting, with fantastic main protagonist Lilly whose likeability and charisma is instantly magnetic. The love triangle between Lilly, Will and Brand was reminiscent of Edward, Jacob and Bella; keeping you guessing throughout the book as to whom she would pick! Fans of Becca Fitzpatrick's `Hush, Hush' series (or) Lauren Kate's exquisite `Fallen' saga will find this dazzling debut a tantalizingly tempting treat and engrossing read.
S J West's Vampiric fallen angels are really interesting and like nothing I have encountered before. As the thrilling tension and drama built in intensity to the most unexpectedly mind-blowing, dramatic cliffhanger ending I was left on edge desperate to find out what happens next...

CURSED had me reading into the early hours of the morning, not able to tear my gaze from the hypnotic saga that was so engaging it was as though the story & characters `got under your skin'. Deeply beguiling and incredibly well written the deftly woven plot seems to get even better as you read the next chapter...and the next. This supremely magical story is one that I am so pleased to have had the chance to read, as now I cannot wait to delve into book 2 and to continue from where I left off!

*I would like to thank SJ West for providing me with an e-copy of the first book within the Watchers series to read & review. *

This is a story about love and finding how that is. Lilly is a freshmen at collage. She is trying to avoid Will how was her best friend and protector most of her life. Then after they shared a kiss when she was 16 Will stopped being her friend. At collage Lilly meets Brand and finds that she really likes him. She has to deiced if she wants Will or Brand. Lilly is also finding that she is a little different then other people. She meets Melcom and then starts to learn thing about Will and Brand and her self. Someone wants to kill her. Can they find out who in time? This is a ok story but I was a little disappointed that Will wasn't more important in the story and it's a bit predictable.

I am utterly disappointed. I had hopes for the premise and the book based on all of the positive reviews. Ultimately, I came up with a 3 or 4 page (single spaced) review about how awful the book is and all of the holes in it. I don't want the store to be mad at me for posting a review that long and that critical. I don't think it would do anyone any good to read it either. So let me provide a summary. There may be minor spoilers, but nothing you couldn't really get from using your brain a little and looking at the cover or reading the book description.

My Read Time / Intensity / Immersion: Around 8 hours of very casual light reading.
I am an avid and adept reader and can typically read a book like this in half a day or less. I probably read slightly faster than the average, especially with a text as simple as this. While I really wanted to finish the story as quickly as possible, I couldn't immerse myself the way I wanted to. I was easily distracted from the reading. By 40% I just wanted to finish the book for the sake of finishing.

Intended Audience: The author says something like 13+
For a book written about college students, I would expect a college student or late high school student to be able to read it and enjoy it at a level that responds to them. It really sticks to the PG-13. There is no swearing or drinking. There's a lot of kissing, but noting too descriptive; its definitely of a statement of the facts than something erotic. It's not super terrifying or suspenseful really.

Originality: Somewhat. I can see spots that seem to reflect popular examples of YA paranormal romance. The concept of angels isn't anything new, but these ones aren't 100% typical. The plot itself follows the typical model of the heroine facing a big life change and then meeting a guy, falling for him, having relationship troubles, and dealing with a supernatural force that is out to get her.

Paranormal: Angels and a girl who is an unusual being, but you probably could figure that out already, and maybe some miscellaneous other things.
This reminds me of the "Fallen" series by Lauren Kate in terms of lore. The angels seem to have a few other powers, but it's fairly run of the mill in terms of this genre: superhuman good looks, "speed", and some mind tricks.

Pacing: WAY WAY WAY Too fast to be anywhere near believable or realistic.
You just can fall in love with someone as fast as these characters did. If you did, it's probably not love. If someones claims to be in love with you that quickly, back away very slowly. It may seem romantic, but that's a little creepy.

Characters: flat as can be. Stereotypical and unoriginal.
Tara reminds me of Tara from True Blood/Southern Vampire Mysteries.
Will is...okay. He's the most reasonable and the one I seem to have the least objections to.
Brand is Mr. Perfect. He's rich, handsome, kind, can paint, cook, sing, dance, has manners, practically worships Lilly, is the perfect gentleman, a literal and figurative angel, plus a woman magnet (literally, and not the hyperbolic literally). He's even self-sacrificing and just a little broken from a past love. If those are his worst flaws, sign me up. Do I adore him? God, how could I not? HE"S PERFECT IN EVERY WAY. Do I like his character? Not in the slightest for that reason.
Malcolm is probably the roundest and most dynamic character, but that's not exactly a good thing. At all. First impressions aside, second impression says that he's just another body for the growing Lilly-centric reverse harem.
Lilly, our beloved (read despised) heroine, needs counseling. I wrote a page and a half on her alone. She doesn't have normal emotional reactions to potential suitors or her many near death experiences until too late in the book. She makes very poor choices-- one that are obviously dangerous and irrational thus making them very unbelievable. If she were real I would question her emotional maturity and mental well being. I suppose the major flaw in the way Lilly is written is that she seems unintentionally too trusting, leaving her to be an unbelievable character.

Plot: Not too bad...? Weak if anything.
It is predictable. I could see "twists" or "surprises" coming from 150 pages away.
Additionally, several plot points seemed forced, or like they existed for the purpose of fiction rather than as an imitation of real life (assuming the fictional world could be real). Basically, I mean that these point could have be rewritten in a way that would make them seem more realistic/less forced, and still have similar or better outcomes within story.

Details Work: Sporadic and sloppy. Indicative of a writer with potential but hasn't matured enough to know where to put more detail in or leave some out.
I'm a firm believer that everything a writer does should have a purpose. If it doesn't develop the story in some way (setting, plot, character, etc.) it shouldn't be there. Also, research is surprisingly important for fiction writers. There are points with extraneous details (maybe it will come into play, but who knows), contradictory descriptions, and areas where I want more detail or more information, and I just don't have it. I know Lilly has pale skin and straight brown hair, she also dresses conservatively. I think I just described a large portion of the female population, but I don't know how else to describe her. The details, unrealistic or lack there of, are what really kills this book for me.

Views on the End: Wwwwhhhaaaatttt???? Talk about a cliffhanger, and yet, a little anticlimactic. I'm not satisfied at all. I have so many unanswered questions and there are so many little things that happened in the book (see my comments on extraneous details) that I have no idea if they actually play into the plot or not.

Will I Read the Sequel: Probably.
Why? Two reasons. I still have a lot of questions and despite my criticisms, I think there's potential at the root of all of this. I want to know more and find out more. (This potential is why I gave the book two stars instead of one.)

Recommendation:
Read the free sample first so you know what you're getting into if you still want to read it. It's not going to be the next big hit. To make a food analogy, it's not going to be the meat and potatoes of your diet. It's not a salad. It's candy. It's not even the nice dark Ghirardelli chocolate, but it's more like a generic piece. It's just another piece of okay chocolate that will satisfy a craving.

-no action
-drama drama drama

Long Review:

The book started out completely WEIRD! The main character Lilly meets hot and rich Brandon on her first or second day at college. After meeting for only TWENTY FOUR HOURS, they are holding hands, he’s asking her for her future plans so he can follow her around and he’s writing poetry for her. After ONE DAY of seeing each other? The worst thing is she responds to it like that is completely normal, even though she’s supposed to be madly in love with Will(her other love interest) the entire time. I actually felt weirded out by Brandon, but if you’re into the whole falling in love at first sight type of situations I guess you would enjoy this romance.

I let the beginning of the book slide until I met Tara. She is Lilly’s roommate and best friend, but her relationship with Lilly was completely out of boundaries. I get the whole have your best friend’s back, but the author made Tara seem like an overbearing and protective mother instead of a best friend, to the point where Brandon has to leave Lilly’s door open at night for Tara not to freak out and he has to ask Tara for her permission to stay in Lilly’s bed and has to bring Lilly home before ten because of Tara? She’s Lilly’s best friend and roommate, not her freaking father. It all just seemed so exaggerated and made Tara just annoying.

The characters just suck. Brandon is WAY too perfect, Lilly is plain boring (I mean you really don’t get why all these PERFECT men are just willing to do anything for her after 400 pages), Will is rude, Malcolm just appears out of nowhere and Tara is just annoying.

I honestly felt like the book was going to get better and there were going to be some action scenes or some important problem throughout the plot but the only constant problem was Lilly’s really challenging love life. Does she pick Brandon, who is the most perfect, handsome and FILTHY rich guy ever (which by the way he constantly explains to her that he indeed is filthy rich) and treats her like a princess in every occasion? Or does she pick Will, her former best friend who hasn’t spoken to her in the last two years, stares at her rudely and treats her like s***? Or wait, Malcolm, who tells her that he is there to kill her but that he finds her interesting so instead he invites her to a trip around the world(which she accepts)? Oh wow, who should she pick?

The only question I kept asking myself was: IS THIS REAL LIFE? The answer is no. Of course it's a YA paranormal romance book, however this book is completely unrealistic, things happen that would neveeeeer happen in real life, and I am not talking about the paranormal s***, I’m talking about the storyline and dialogue between characters. This book is just A LOT of rolling your eyes and terrible predictable situations.

This is the first in a long line of books that will keep you entertained through a long winter, maybe even into the summer! This series follows the same group of people/angels/demons through over 1000 years as they deal with life, death and love. This first book is billed as young adult but others in the series are more adult so if your teenager is reading these you might need to read ahead to make sure you are ok with the subject matter. None get very in-depth in fact many of the characters wait till marriage. Thus is an amazing series from an amazing author and I can't wait to see what she has for us next!

Oh Jesus Christ Superstar! What a book!
I liked it from the start and ended up loving it!
But mostly, I love Brand! Soooo sweet and hot and sexy and cute and almost perfect... I say almost" because of how he behaved after the thing with Crazy Michelle. I seriously worshipped him all the time except that one time. And the dream? Oh it was so sweet, my heart melted.
I liked Lilly too. A very nice character. I felt connected to her. And with Brand too,
when we got to see things through his point of view.
I'm not sure I really liked Tara. I mean, she is a good friend and she loves Lilly like crazy, but I think that sometimes she was too overprotective and overwhelming. I also liked her other times though.
I didn't know what to think about Malcom at first, and I admit I didn't want to like him, I didn't want him to come between Lilly and Brand. But I found myself liking him in the end. I think he can be a very good friend. A dark, handsome, funny, crazy, mischievous friend, but still a very much caring friend.
I don't know what to say about Will. I have mixed feelings. We don't really get to know him well enough to have a real feel of him, but I have to say, I didn't like him much. And we still don't know what has happened two years ago for him to leave her after that kiss if it's true that he loved her. I would have loved to understand that.
I didn't like Nora and Michelle. (view spoiler)
I liked Abby and I was kind of surprised to know who she really is to Brand.
Though, I have to say, I suspected it at one point.
The story was good and although it reminded me of another book in the scene where Abby and Lilly met, I liked the whole book.
I can't wait to read the 2nd book and know what happens next and get some questions answered finally.
A very good read, and hard to put down and go to sleep.

Since finding this author and reading this series, I've reread them several times. I loved the story and the innocence that comes across from her heroine but the strength she possesses in making her decisions in her life are commendable. I'm not even close to being a teen but I still love reading the story. The friendship, love, and humor between the characters in the book are heartwarming. There is a love triangle and I found myself rooting for all 3. Her relationship with all 3 were very different with each of them and even though she chooses 1 in the end you know it's the right choice. It's a very good story line and I fell in love with all the characters.

Although I do not belong to the YA readers I still enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and intriguing. I love how the author keeps every chapter to be intriguing. I love the friendship between Lilly and Tara that is truly for keeps. Malcolm is witty and entertaining yet he believes in his salvation. While Brand seems to be Mr. Perfect guy! I can’t wait to read the next book hoping for Will to find love!

This book and the others in the series are alright. An ok read if I didn't recommend many books more than this one.
Genre: YA Fantasy Romance blending in some Christian legends mixing with vampire werewolf folklore
Note: The vampire werewolf aspect is minimally addressed. The "no sex before marriage" is an extensive motif. If that is something you appreciate then you might enjoy this book more than someone who does not. The author bends quite a lot of Christian folklore and legend and not all are going to be comfortable with it. The story walks a fine line. There are a few typos.

So if I hadn't finished reading the end of this book (which I skimmed about 30 percent) I would've rated it a 1.but towards the end it finally gets interesting and decided to give it a couple more stars. I did not like how lily's and brand's relationship was fake. How do you see someone the first day of school and immediately start dating and fall in love after 3 days. I want to believe the characters, I want to imagine im them. Unfortunately they didn't make me believe in anything. Maybe a 15 year old would. This book had a good concept but it was written awful. Even though it was that bad I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know their secret. I wanted to see who Lily choosed. I want to know what she is! I would've loved it if they made the love a little bit realistic. I think a teenage girl would like this book. Would I recommend? No. Would I read the next book? Yes. Why? I don't know. I just want to know what happens.

This is the first book written by S.J West that I have read and its amazing. As soon as I put this book down, I had to read the next one. Since reading this book, I have read every other book she has written. This book introduces us to not only the important character of Lily but also to the world and mythology of The Watchers. At first the book seems like the typical paranormal love triangle but it is much more. From the start I was Team Brand in this book, but Will provides an interesting background and relationship with Lily. I highly recommend this book as the first book to team of S.J West's.

Fabulous book. Don't give up on it after one chapter. By chapter three you will like it, by five, you really like it, and your curiosity will not flag from there through to the end.

The first chapter I liked, though 'realized' the target audience was tween-agers. Around chapter two and three, I adjusted the targeted age group to teens, and enjoyed the light story that was already sweetly romantic. Soon after, I threw out that age range, and left it blank. Something creepy was happening. It was too perfect. I had the feeling an unseen mask would soon be pulled away. To the end, I was glued to the unfolding mysteries. The story led me, again and again, to assume I knew what was around the bend--all books of this genre repeat the same basic arc, planted in the same basic folklore--but it always went differently. It kept a story that felt familiar quite interesting.

The author has a writing cadence not similar to any author I have previously read. I like it. On to book two.

I liked the premise of the story. I don’t want to give anything away but the paranormal character building was very interesting and original. However, there is an immediate love triangle (or maybe it ends up a square?) and the main character is kind of whiny and needy. I plan to start the second book soon - I hope she toughens up so I can enjoy the rest of the story.

Amazing book. I've never read anything like this, as I usually read vampire/witchy things. However, I'm soo glad I gave this book a chance. It started me on a love affair with The Watcher. I'm currently waiting for the next book to come out. SJ West is an amazing author. Cursed is the beginning of an amazing generational changing series! Must read this.. But be prepared... You won't be able to put it down and will be hooked on the series within the first few chapters

I loved the mystery and suspense of who these mysterious, beautiful men are and why are they drawn to Lilly.Clever explanation for their attributes., most of the Angels in the supernatural stories, are so ridiculous, that there is no connection to the biblical theology . So far, their secret life, is working for me. Lilly, is a believable character, not constantly whining and pitifulI but dealing with heartache and moving on. She has some inner fortitude and resolve.I really loved reading a book free of vulgar language but full of mystery, suspense, and romance. I am ready to buy book 2 and read it tomorrow night! Light, fun reading....so enjoyable!

Loved this book from beginning to end. Lilly is an amazing character. She is down to earth and has regular girl problems like any other girl. Wish I had a friend like Tara she is crazy but so protective of Lilly. It's the type of friendship any girl would love to have with someone. I had my ups and downs with Will but I'm glad he is just friends with Lilly. Brand oh man I love Bran he is so perfect. I wish I could have someone like him. But Malcolm yum. I loved all the characters and can't wait to read the next book to see what happens with all of them.

... and they are pretty good. I enjoyed the characters and the amount of dialogue versus descriptive text. I do need the author to learn the difference between 'their' and 'they're', 'dessert' and 'desert', and goodness sake it's 'for all intent and purpose' and NOT 'all intense purposes'.

I REALLY enjoyed the lack of descriptive sexual content in a series dealing with our inability to forgive ourselves even in light of God's forgiveness. Keep in mind that God doesn't just forgive, He FORGETS. I wonder if the author needs a reminder that if you keep asking God's forgiveness for the same thing, He won't have a clue what you're talking about. That's His Grace.

This is a good YA series. I recommend it!

S.J West is simply amazing and this book was fantastic! This entire series has captured me from the first chapter through the spin-off series and it was a wonderful ride. I loved watching the story unfold and the characters were fascinating. I love Tara and her wild and crazy spirit, but Lily and Brands story kept me wanting more!! The book is part of a series but I loved that it did not end with a cliffhanger.

I really didn't like the first half of this book. It was hard for me to get through and I struggled to identify with the characters. But once I got past the halfway point I found myself quickly getting addicted. I think this was due to the introduction of vampire-angel Malcolm and his mystical trips with Lilly around the world. It's an ultra romance with plenty of suspense and danger. Readers who love reading about love will be delighted.

Along the way Lilly is pinning for Will her lost love when in comes Brand, a drop dead gorgeous guy who is drawn to her as she is to him. Now in the midst of a triangle Lilly must decide who her heart belongs to.

I did really enjoy the storyline as well. I thought it was interesting and kept my attention completely. Didn't want to put it down. It is definitely a great set up for a trilogy and I'm looking forward to reading the next two.

I enjoyed this Novel for its unique storyline and I enjoyed the Author's portrayal of the Main Characters.
I am in my 40's and consider this a "easy read " meaning the content is more suited for younger readers or readers that enjoy a book's content to be an easy to follow story line and not overly complicated or too wordy.
I would recommended this Trilogy to be enjoyed by 16- early twenties.

Ok, i was going to give this trilogy 1 star because it is such a twilight ripoff, even using lines from twilight! "I cant live in a world where you dont exist." Straight from twilight. Anyway, as i went along on this journey, with all the mispells and editing problems distracting me, i did get into the story and even shed a few tears. SO not a total failure after all. It is a good story, I just wish she had taken time to make the story her own instead of ripping off twilight. I also wish I could edit the freaking thing for her. A few errors per book is acceptable, but this one had a lot. Literally like, almost every page! So i took one star for the twilight ripoff, and one star for all the errors. I do love the story though.

In all honesty this book was terrible. I had a hard time finishing it in the first place. If the grammar wasn't bothering me, then it was the ridiculous plot line, if not that then the absolute Mary sue like persona of Lilly Rayne nightingale (a name that makes me want to bash my head in).

So the book has enough romance & action to be mildly entertaining but some real issue keep it from being a great book.
Contradictions: The main love interest, Brand, is a fallen Angel. He has fallen from grace centuries ago because he went against Gods laws. He fell in love with a human & had a child with her. This woman dies carrying his child to term.... and the death is pretty horrific with the child inside the womb slowly eating the mother from the inside out. So he chooses to be a fallen Angel for this woman and she dies to bring his child into the world and yet he loves a teenage girl at 1st sight more than he has ever loved any other woman? Not to mention that because he's already been married and has an adult daughter older then the teen love Lilly, it kind of feels like a old man going after a teenager.... Can you say pedophile.
Then Will, who she thought was her best human friend, turns out her best friend actually died in childhood and the look alike turns out to be another fallen Angel. Yet she ends the book with hope that her and Will, who is not really Will, are becoming friends again like when they were children.
Heroine is a poor role model for girls: Lilly repeats a cycle of subjecting herself to emotionally & often verbally abusive men and some how it's okay because they are gorgeous like Greek Gods. Also, Lilly's best girlfriend is African-American and the author choose to portray her in very demeaning racial stereotypes.
One last annoying fact is she has not 1 nor 2 but 3 unrealistically gorgeous men who will give up everything to be with her all because her scent does not make them want to drink her blood.... seriously that's all it takes.

Started out great, then went downhill fast. Best friend is way too dramatic and clingy. The men are not realistic, crying like sissies over the girl they fall in love with after one look. One look! Three men fawning over one girl (she is 18). How did she suddenly develop powers? Why are they trying to kill her? Why is she different and unique when her mother is basically a trailer-trash loser. Who is her father? No explanations. The book does not wrap up the story so if you want answers you HAVE to continue to read the series. Fallen angels turned vampire a God unleashed on humanity.

GOOD:
1) Cover is gorgeous. It's what got me to pick it up and then the Premise sounded quite promising. Everything was downhill after that. Even the cover disappoints in that it remains exactly the same for the other books. Just changing the back ground to grass and then water is not very original and rather lazy. Just sayin'.

BAD: Where do I begin?
1) Can't believe it took so many stinkin' pages to say the same thing over and over and over. Pay attention People because this author delivers it all in 3s. There's the death thing when she's a kid, then it happens in college with a stalker and once that's resolved, it starts all over again with a new entity.
2) Three guys love her madly, instantly and for no apparent reason yet they would all die, kill for her... whatever.
3) Three girlfriends. The bestie fr childhood. The new shy girl and the one that's a selfish bitch. But they they all hang anyway. ALL the characters, seriously, all of them are vapid, show no depth and say and do the same things over and over. It got really tiresome, esp. the three guys who were soooo perfect (which is code for boring).
4) It's YA and yes it was technically clean in that there was no sex. Yet the girl did things that I felt were very inappropriate...ie take a bubble bath in front of the guy, sleep with two of the guys (intentionally and unintentionally), and had sex dreams with two of the guys but hey, it was okay because it was the guys' fantasy/dream and somehow transferred to her brain dream sequence so she didn't mean to.

UGLY: The major, unforgivable FAIL: CLIFFHANGER
1) Even with more than 450 pages of continuous dribble.... this book doesn't end. It just quits in what felt like the longest middle ever endured.
2) It ends totally unresolved with two questions a) who is trying to kill miss lady love? and b) why? Seriously? The story felt so unsatisfying because it totally missed the boat in asking the most fundamental question: Can they stop it and save her? And excuse me... but I would think that when killers can snap into anywhere you are and take you in an instant that that little annoying problem would need to be addressed like ASAP. Like as soon as she returned from LaLa land prison. Yet it ends like Scarlett O'hara with an "oh well, we'll just think about that some other time." WTH?
3) I'm sorry this review has not been very kind to MS. West. I'm not YA but I CANNOT believe nor accept that young ladies would not appreciate and expect more complex story lines and characters. C'mon our kids have got to be smarter than this.
4) Finally, I'm so disappointed that I wasted money on this.

If you want a good sweet romance for YA then I recommend.... Chasing Nikki by Lacey Weatherford.

I wasn't sure I would like this book when I first started reading it, but as I read further I was hooked. Now I'm on the third book in the trilogy, and I can't put it down. I've skipped my favorite TV shows so I can continue to read this trilogy!

This first book of Three, left me dying! for Book Two! When you purchase Book One, purchases Books Two and Three at the same time! I love lots of writer's stories, but I've found unexpected addiction to this, VERY WELL WRITTEN Trilogy. I could not put CURSED down!!!!!!!!!!

I tried. Really, I did. I guess I want more out of a paranormal romance than following gossiping children while they go to class and go shopping to try to tempt boys to ask them out. I might not be remembering things correctly, but I was more interested in getting a feel for my classes and what it was going to take to pass in my first week of college than what the hot boys were up to. This really felt more like a high school book. I couldn't finish.

Interesting series and a bit different from a lot of the other vampire/angel young adult books.
I found the characters interesting and rich. Well thought out. Some loose ends, but generally a fun to read series.

There are so many things right with this book but there are so many things wrong as well! First, it needs editing, badly. Second, the stereotype black southern female friend, Tara, is so ridiculous I couldn't help but laugh. On a positive note, the premise is good. If it were written in a different style, it would have flowed better and not been so predictable. I love supernatural romance stuff and the only reason I will continue this series is because curiosity about how it ends is killing me, and it's on kindle unlimited. Honestly, not worth paying for.

Once you start the series, it will never let you go!! I stumbled across this series and got hooked from the first pages. This book is a stepping stone for more series that provide greater insight into these characters and gives us more strong women and gorgeous men to connect with. You cannot go wrong with this series and you will find yourself re-reading all of the books over and over again.

A THOROUGHLY ENTERTAINING BOOK OF ROMANCE, MORALITY, MINOR BIBLICAL HISTORY, AND GOOD VS EVIL.
OUR HEROINE IS A DOWN TO EARTH YOUNG WOMAN WITH A CHECKERED FAMILY HISTORY AND NORMAL HUMAN INSECURITY. THE HERO A FALLEN ANGEL. THEIR TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS ATE JUST BEGINNING IN THIS VERY DIFFERENT NOVEL.

This the start of a wonderful story for Lilly and Brand, along with the other characters.
I was hooked from the beginning and fell in love with Malcolm! Thank you, S.J, for bringing these fictional beings into my life.

The romance in this book is beyond ridiculous, I couldn't get into the story at all for the idiotic "love story." I think the author has never been in love nor had serious relationship with any guy outside her fantasy. Nor do I think she write all that well either. She needs a day job int he worst way.

Listening to it on audible book and am 2 hours in. Pretty much NOTHING has happened. Seriously, it's probably the most boring little juvenile love triangle set up I've ever read. The main character has 0 personality, the guys who find her soooooo fascinating have only one personality trait: hot. I've read a lot of terrible YA novels, I find them funny, but this is by far the worst.

I never really cared about the main character due to the disjointed writing style and lack of character development. Some of the ideas about how the mythical male characters originated were intriguing, but the story overall fell flat and I was disappointed.

This book is fantastic! S.J. West paints a wonderful world full of fallen angels and the hope love can bring. I fell in love with the characters and was very pleased when they return in her other stories. If you like visiting characters over again the Watchers are for you.

I did not the comment about Tara being called the darkest person Lilly has ever seen. Her comment always at "black girls " this and that and I definitely did not like the joking comment about her being "nappy head."

okay. Do yourself a huge favor and don't buy this book. Everything seems incredibly forced. Brand is to perfect. Its a complete turnoff. I really doubt that in real life he would he so polite and rich and hot. Not to mention he is pining after this girl from the second they meet. I would rate it zero if I could. My dog could.write a novel with more depth! Brand has no apparent flaws; I wanted to strangle. Him half the time. Its seriously annoying, because in reality, who wants perfect? The characters have absoulutly no depth. Please. Don't register me as simple hater, I'm trying to help you out. Some books have a writing style that.just floats off the page and dances through my head beautifully; this book is NOT one of them. It is flat, stale, and tasteless. I would not recamend it to mmy worst enemy. Make the write.choice. save your money!
