The author is very detailed to the point of taking 20 pages to convey an idea that could easily have been done in 2 or 3 pages. So the main points are helpful and interesting and they are underlined and that was useful.

an amazing, well thought out book by philip yancey. he is able to wrestle with this issue in a way that both comforts us, but also challenges us at the same time. what i appreciate the most about this book is that he is able to weave different sides of the issues & perspectives based on his studies, interactions, and experiences with pain. a definite must read!

This is must reading for all thinking people. It does not give easy answers, but asks the hard questions forcing us to look to a God who has never promise that we will never have to endure hardships, but always promises to be with us as we encounter them.

I was just browsing the free kindle books and stumbled upon this book. It definitely covers different types of hurts and gives you something to chew on when people (yourself or others) hurt. Humbling.

Thanks for a great book. I watched my beloved husband go from a football player's physic to a shell of a man as we fought leukemia for five years. His healing came when he was promoted to heaven. This was 30 years ago. We experienced so much that you wrote about. The journey through all of that has colored everything since then! I shall keep this book in my cloud to re-read and recommend to others.

I had previously read "Where is God When It Hurts" by Philip Yancey. It was an inspiration and a great help to me. I sent a copy to the husband of a friend who is currently serving time in prison. It was uplifting and an inspiration to him as well. Thank you so much for your speed and efficiency in getting this book to the person I wanted to send it to. You can be sure that if I purchase another book on line that I will try YOU first.

A very readable, engaging book on the topic of God and suffering. Use of people's personal story to highlight the various points throughout the book adds depth to comprehending the various themes. A very fair approach to this difficult topic.

I went through a serious cancer problem, and the doctors would give me no hope of recovery. Pain many times was unbearable, and I had very conflicting thoughts about where God was. After a very aggressive radiation treatment and a painful surgery I was almost worn out, however this book helped me make up my thoughts. This book helped me understand the way God works in my life and His purpose, and today I can say like Job: "My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You".

I learned new things and improved my relationship with God. This book helped me have more compassion for people who suffer. There were so many things in this book that I had never considered before. Good read.

What a wonderful asset in helping us know what to say to those hurting (physical and emotional hurts). He goes into so many different facets of pain that helps in our understanding of pain. Was really struck by comments from a terminal patient that they are labeled as an "invalid" which means in-valid and they NEED to feel like they are still contributors to society.

This book was recommended by my mother last year and I never thought of buying it, until my father died in Nov last year. Its been 3months now after his death and the pain is just worse, everytime I close my eyes I see him and I placed my order and got the book 3days ago. I can not let it out of my hands, dealing and understanding pain in christian way! ohhh thank you
